We admit to being very surprised by the results of our poll on whether Steve McClaren can be successful at Newcastle, and after 2,000 votes there were in there were 87% that thought  Steve McClaren could be successful at Newcastle, and there are more than twice those votes in now – and he’s still holding at 87%.

theres a difference between “can be” and “will be”..

people are romantic..they want to belive in happily ever after..we’ll see..

  • 2 YouCouldn'tMakeItUp // Jun 12, 2015 at 3:17 PM

Id like to see another poll that say “WILL he be a success?”

I think he CAN, as in it’s POSSIBLE, but there are so many factors that affect whether he WILL be or not.

  • 3 barkel // Jun 12, 2015 at 3:18 PM

Of course he can be successful, the poll should have been “Will he be successful?”

It’s unlikely there will be any success unless the club does in fact change its ways and invest in the playing squad and the right backroom staff

  • 4 Mr Magpie // Jun 12, 2015 at 3:22 PM

I’m sure he could get more out of the players we currently have but the basis of him being successful will based on who we sign.

  • 5 richyg01 // Jun 12, 2015 at 3:31 PM

Where are all these ‘insiders’ that crop up when the transfer window comes around?

  • 6 ToonFromLeeds // Jun 12, 2015 at 3:32 PM

    GOd knows

  • 7 Toon-Prodigy // Jun 12, 2015 at 3:33 PM

He can if he is backed. If not, no chance, not with that squad.

  • 8 shaun__ // Jun 12, 2015 at 3:37 PM

Barked – spot on. I said this on the original thread. Stupid question

  • 11 N1CK06 // Jun 12, 2015 at 3:48 PM

  • 12 N1CK06 // Jun 12, 2015 at 3:51 PM

next poll… can steve mcclaren run naked around SJP on the first game of the season?

  • 13 Welshie's Sheep // Jun 12, 2015 at 3:51 PM

McClaren can be successful like Andre Ayew could sign for Newcastle
    Oh wait………

  • 14 ToonFromLeeds // Jun 12, 2015 at 3:51 PM

    pmsl N1ck

  • 15 Sack Llambias // Jun 12, 2015 at 3:55 PM

McClaren is certainly saying all the right things. Not too sure about the supporters being the most loyal, passionate and devoted.
” All we are saying ……is give Steve a chance…”
Still he’s got Catchy on board.!

  • 16 WWSBRD // Jun 12, 2015 at 3:56 PM

Ayew signing for Swansea says more about the call of the league than Swansea

He apparently turned down CL clubs to sign for mid table team with a rookie manager just to play in the PL…bet hes making a fair bit from it though

  • 17 Slank // Jun 12, 2015 at 3:59 PM

Two conflicting reports from Sky. Firstly we are odds on favourites to sign Austin and secondly Chelsea want to sign him.

  • 18 ToonFromLeeds // Jun 12, 2015 at 3:59 PM

Rumour has it that Gouffran is in talks with Palace

  • 19 Tsunki // Jun 12, 2015 at 3:59 PM

Sorry Ed, rubbish poll I always support you but this is in lazy article. In fact I would think you are siding with club PR by not offering a ‘all depends” option. Look how well Mr Bishop has done for his clients by driving us all like sheep through the door of low expectation and misplaced optimism. I wanna see this with the engine running.

  • 20 damma99 // Jun 12, 2015 at 4:00 PM

Keep seeing deal almost done for Austin.
Then suddenly the next headline will be Austin signs for top club Leicester City.
    Ashley haggling over twenty quid.

  • 21 Tsunki // Jun 12, 2015 at 4:01 PM

Sack llambias – why do you say that then about the fans? Spill. I’d like to hear your counter argument, should be worth a glance.

  • 22 Tsunki // Jun 12, 2015 at 4:03 PM

Welshie sheep are you doing your pathetic version of changing from welshgeordue?

  • 23 Tsunki // Jun 12, 2015 at 4:03 PM

I don’t get it, some kind of joke?

  • 24 Jarra // Jun 12, 2015 at 4:04 PM

I have to be honest and when I heard of the interest in McLaren getting the job I was less than excited. However today I was in the company of a Derby County season ticket holder. He spoke highly of his ex boss, the style of football was attacking, where he favoured three up front two off the middle striker. Fast flowing football and the statistics were high in keeping possession. So why the failure to get promoted? Injuries; the two main goal scorers were out for two months. The confidence went and it was difficult to turn it around. His disappointment in him leaving was genuine, best football he ever saw at Derby. He has two other major concerns in fact three, Simpson the coach will follow him, and he believes so will Ince and a midfielder whose name I can not recall at this time. Both young stars but outstanding potential. So my outlook now is I am going to give him all my support and hope this is not another false dawn.

  • 25 WWSBRD // Jun 12, 2015 at 4:06 PM

Will Hughes? Please let it be Will Hughes

  • 26 Tsunki // Jun 12, 2015 at 4:10 PM

Aye signs for swans same as Remy Ba for us in a way. Gets his name on PL manager lists, maybe a season to make an impact, move to a proper club like nufc. Swansea remind me of Charlton, Hull, ipswich, Blackpool spend a few years in the PL muddling around mid to lower table then inevitably dropping to deserved oblivion. sad but there you go, enjoy these years while they last.

  • 27 Shadow_Shearer // Jun 12, 2015 at 4:12 PM

What exactly is successful at Newcastle?? Kk & SBR were considered successful but didn’t actully win a trophy.

  • 28 Tsunki // Jun 12, 2015 at 4:12 PM

Ayew playing CL with Swansea? Even he wouldn’t say that.

  • 29 Welshie's Sheep // Jun 12, 2015 at 4:13 PM

Swans look in good shape. We are not Portsmouth.

  • 30 Sack Llambias // Jun 12, 2015 at 4:13 PM

Still if it doesn’t work out Ashley won’t get any criticism for it- yawn !
Because it’s been made very clear that Charnley and Carr were responsible for choosing him.
As many have said it could well depend as to whether Ashley keeps his word and seriously invests with a view to winning something.
Still if it manages to shed the blog of NUST and AOtypesc it will make for a more enjoyable blog.

  • 31 Tsunki // Jun 12, 2015 at 4:14 PM

Shadow yeah but they got mighty close and tried their hardest and it was definitely fun while it was happening. I’d rather see that than what we have been served up since then. I’d say relatively speaking they were wildly successful compared with recent managers.

  • 32 Tsunki // Jun 12, 2015 at 4:16 PM

OK sack llambias what are AO types?

  • 33 Tsunki // Jun 12, 2015 at 4:18 PM

Welshie Portsmouth weren’t Portsmouth until it all went south. I’ll give you one thing if you are Welshgeordie then I’ll credit you with finally dispensing with that nufc fan from Wales claptrap and outing as a plain old swans troll.

  • 34 Jail for Ashley // Jun 12, 2015 at 4:18 PM

    Ah sack Llambias,
The bloke Ian Toon has proof that it is me !!

  • 35 WWSBRD // Jun 12, 2015 at 4:19 PM

Aye I dont see Swansea turning into a draw as a team on its own, if they drop to the championship then they are stuffed barring that parachute payments

  • 36 Shadow_Shearer // Jun 12, 2015 at 4:20 PM

Tsunki, I was only asking a question, not sayin either were unsuccessful. Is a top 8 without a cup considered successful??

  • 37 WWSBRD // Jun 12, 2015 at 4:21 PM

Haha Swansea troll…its like being trolled by Wigan

  • 38 Welshie's Sheep // Jun 12, 2015 at 4:22 PM

    In monk we trust

  • 39 Tsunki // Jun 12, 2015 at 4:24 PM

Shadow it’s all relative, based on the last two seasons without a doubt yes. But having done that, you’d have to say improvement is a mark of success. So finishing higher and qualifying for more or actually winning something would then be a success. The current stewardship has a long way to go to match the successes of the two you mentioned.

  • 40 Tsunki // Jun 12, 2015 at 4:25 PM

Welsh it’s not a Monk you need it’s a Priest.

  • 41 Tsunki // Jun 12, 2015 at 4:26 PM

What was it that politician said? Like being savaged by a sheep? Something like that…

  • 45 WWSBRD // Jun 12, 2015 at 4:28 PM

Or a Cardiff one? Thats a thing isnt it? Sure I read that was a rivalry

  • 46 Shadow_Shearer // Jun 12, 2015 at 4:28 PM

Aye good point tsunki. Then again it won’t take much to improve on last season. Suppose that’s why it was 90% in favour of yes

  • 47 Tsunki // Jun 12, 2015 at 4:28 PM

    TFL I think it’s Pokat’s fault he made me this,way 🙂

  • 48 Welshie's Sheep // Jun 12, 2015 at 4:29 PM

Priest? It’s St James that needs an exorcism!

  • 49 ToonFromLeeds // Jun 12, 2015 at 4:29 PM

  • 50 Tsunki // Jun 12, 2015 at 4:31 PM

Shadow that’s probably it. Relief that after Pardew and….can hardly type it without gagging…Carver, something tangible COULD get under way. If only we hadn’t heard all this before, then we voila be truly optimistic. I think the bulk of that 90% are just banking on hope.

  • 51 Tsunki // Jun 12, 2015 at 4:32 PM

Welsh I agree anything that can get the likes of ghouls like you from haunting the place is worth trying.

  • 52 WWSBRD // Jun 12, 2015 at 4:32 PM

Whats Swanseas biggest blog? We should all have a day trip there and have a natter

  • 53 ToonFromLeeds // Jun 12, 2015 at 4:32 PM

    Swans blog headlines:

Poll: should we have mutton pies?

If you bugger a sheep of yours, can you be arrested for incest?

FYI: all swans fans now to wear pants with buttons, sheep can hear zippers!

    More headlines to follow…

  • 66 Average_Contents // Jun 12, 2015 at 4:46 PM

Ironically llambias sounds an awful lot like iantoon himself Jfa.

Oh what joys it must be to hold multiple accounts.

Or just sad, isn’t that right Pokat 😉

  • 67 chuck // Jun 12, 2015 at 5:06 PM

Depends what you mean by “can be”, what is his expectations, cold be and probably is mid table mediocrity.

In which case that would be success, no ?

‘Will be successful’ means a top eight IMO, but we got a guy here who hasn’t won a thing for a long time who just got fired from a second tier side, so please explain why any of us should be happy with his arrival.

  • 68 Moonraker15 // Jun 12, 2015 at 8:05 PM

Oh Ffs don’t tell me Swansea are being discussed again! All I will say is they have peaked and we are re – emerging and we will definitely be above them next season! Now get off our blog!
