Newcastle Reported To Have Early Success In Transfer Market

The Mirror is reporting that the quest to sign our number one transfer target Charlie Austin is going to be successful and Newcastle have beaten out other Premier League sides in getting the QPR striker to agree to sign for Newcastle.

Charlie Austin – to sign for Newcastle

Simon Bird is the Mirror reporter (famous for being the one on the end of that foul-mouthed tirade by Joe Kinnear back in 2008) and he was given access to Steve McClaren for an exclusive interview yesterday.

We suppose the Mirror could have some inside information from Newcastle that the Austin deal will be completed, and indeed Newcastle are also going after West Brom striker Saido Berahino – according to the Mirror report.

There have been reports in the last couple of days that Newcastle are favorites to sign Austin, and they have come from QPR sources,  so the Mirror report is not out of line with those reports.

If we can get the 25 year-old striker over the line it would be a terrific signing for the Magpies, and it would be an early success for the club.

Austin scored a great 18 goals in 35 appearances for QPR last season and he looks like a goal-scoring machine and an excellent candidate to wear the number 9 shirt on Tyneside.

If Newcastle do sign Austin we think that our current number 9 Papiss Cisse will be allowed to move on this summer.

The Mirror report is exclusive so we hope they are right, but as far as getting  Saido Berahino. to Newcastle –  that will be very difficult.

But it would be a major breakthrough and success for Newcastle if we beat other top Premier League clubs to Austin, and it will show Newcastle are determined to strengthen the squad big time this summer.

And of course we need to do exactly that.

Comments welcome.

Not going to be persuaded about a “done deal” for Austin. Done deals are only done deals when they’re actually a done deal! It would be good to see a striker with a bit of strength for others (Perez, Cisse?) to feed off though.

I’m confident we will get Austin, berahinho seems unlikely as he’s likely to be over priced. Although sign him too, let cisse move on.

Austin, Berahinho, Perez are very good options. With De Jong capable of playing up top too. Riviere may improve but he’s more suited to playing on the right of a front three.

    Loan out Armstrong.

Chill man. Change your name to Charlie Austin in the Gallowgate. We will get him ‘over the line’ this week. I hope… 🙂

They’re reporting it as a done deal but then go on to say that QPR want £15m for him but we want him for £10m, so if no fee has been agreed then how can it be a done deal ?

If true then it will be a great signing as he was one (some might say the best) forward last season given how poor QPR were.

Still think that there might be another striker on the way.

I would like to see a real midfield playmaker bought. We have never replaced the quality of Cabaye. Tiote (who should reinvigorate himself under McClaren) and Colback are fine in midfield but lack the vision and pinpoint passing ability that Cabaye had.

It wouldn’t surprise me if two or more defenders are bought. Janmaat certainly needs a capable deputy. Although I have wondered whether Janmaat and Dummitt would make a good central pairing.

Don’t want Berahino…he’s a talent but we need to galvanise the dressing room. He has a growing rep as another ‘bad apple’, and we’ve had a few of them over the last few years. They don’t pull their weight sufficiently and cause a bad whiff in the end

I see negatives (for McClaren) by being on the “Football Board”.

I doubt if he will have any more, or less, say than Pardew did over transfers.
Being on the Board, he will be forced to “support” Board decisions and be the public voice of the Club.

So, like Pardew, he will have to present the Club’s position, whether or not he agrees with it.

So – let’s try to understand that and not criticise him for “supporting” the regime.
    That comes with the job.

Yeah I want a real confident midfielder too, Colback will shine I’m sure, if he gets the right partner…he’s got it IMO and he’ll only improve

Anyone think that MAC will go back to Derby for Chris Martin 21 goals last season until injured and maybe’s Will Hughes

    On the contrary toonincheek

I think SM being on the board is an opportunity in theory. He gets more of a voice – Carver’s position was very much ‘hey I’m just here to do the job with what I’m given’.. Wanted to keep right out of anything else. This way SM gets a voice and can have more effect on his own destiny than previously. IN THEORY..

IF we get Austin then lets give him the number 9 shirt – he’s a goal scoring player with physical attributes and would set the mood for an energetic team.

Might be tempted to keep our season tickets – now there’s a thought

this has to be rubbish !

austin we have a chance of getting but (the other who i cant be bothered to look up how its spelt) theres just too many things going against us in getting or going for him imo.

firstly the most important to ashley is cost ! 20mil i mean come on !
2ndly wba would only let him go for silly money.
3rd would we actually need him ? i mean we have siem/cisse/goofy/river/perez/arma and thats just atm ! then add austin who imo we desperatly need and that makes 7 strikers ! for 2 places

could move siem into acm and get rid if possible of river/goofy (although i suspect it’ll be a case of loaning them out if anything as i cant see them being wanted by other clubs) and send arma out on loan that would leave us with 3 or 4 as i think river will be given a second chance.

or does cisse go ? imo i’d keep him for piece of mind as he can def score goals and he is getting better at his old age 😉

Totally agree. It’s a great move by the club to have McClaren, Carr and Moncur on the board. Pardew and previous managers could always have the excuse ‘that it was the boards decision not mine’

McClaren will have no place to hide. By all accounts he and Carr get on well and see eye to eye. Hopefully this may mean fewer duds and more gems arriving.

with 2 good cb’s i’ve no doubt colback/abied/tiote/sissoko would show another side to there games as they would have more freedom to go a bit forward and get involved more into forward plays.

i watched tiote/abied/colback when they play for country/former teams and they have a lot more to there game that we are missing out on by them stood still in front of the back 4 waiting to help our rubbish cb’s out instead of getting involved with all the game.

Then maybe it would be more pertinent not to bring the matter up in the first place. I thought you were better than that.

I see that there is a fairly even split between the glass half full and glass half empty brigades.

Some have said that Ashley has already convinced fans but I was say that rather than being convinced, some fans maybe encouraged that at least, in the matter of a couple of weeks, relevant changes for the better are being currently experienced allowing room for some optimism fir a change.

    @28 expat

for me it’s a case of i dont want to constantly moan about my team i want them to do me proud and i want bragging rights and not have the mick taken out of me almost everytime on motd because of things happening ect.

no one at the club talked so we didnt know what was going on and pards would always just take what was given him and constantly lie to us ! then there was best players being sold and no cups and just cashing in on the team all the time as long as we stayed in the prem !

now ashley has talked but more importantly acted !
he’s stepped back and let someone else take charge he’s got macca into place which i wasnt happy about at the start but seems that ever former player of his is praising him to high heaven so maybe it was me thats wrong !
said we have a big war chest and macca seems to be getting involved with who suits his style of play.
getting his own back room staff as we all know ours was greatly underperforming.
and moving fast in the market to get players far better than what we have atm.

not saying its going to come off but atleast we can be happy for a while and see if/when it may or may not fail !

IF we get Austin that would be great but it would be a bad idea to get rid of Cisse in my opinion we should get rid of Riveire and/or Gouffran instead.

Hopefully we get 2 strikers, but an Austin, Cisse, and Perez strike force isnt too bad unless someone gets injured (knock on wood we have a healthy team this year) then we are almost where we were last season so another striker is a must again IF we do get Austin.

For me I never thought of De Jong as a striker for some reason, doesnt mean that he cant be good there, I think he is best suited playing behind the striker though.

Still hoping that Austin signs, but flabbergasted that some people class Riviere as a striker, absolute shite man,get rid with willo, collo, tiote, they are taking up squad places ffs
Need the defence sorted immediately and a couple of wingers and a playmaker
Sissoko ,imo, can leave if the right offer comes in £15m plus, personally don’t like players who tout themselves around,on last season’s performances we’ll be lucky to sell him
