Poll Results – Should Newcastle Sign Andy Carroll?

9:05 pm, Friday, June 12th, 2015 by Dr. Ed Harrison · 144 Comments

More than two in three fans would not want Newcastle to sign Andy Carroll this summer – probably because his injury record means he plays only about half a season –  well at least that’s been the case in his three seasons at West Ham.

Here are the latest results of our poll which is still open – so if you haven’t yet voted – now’s your chance.

You can rule out Austin joining

He doesn’t want to move to far away from Bournemouth. Expect him to join Southampton.

If recent speculation is to be believed, we’ll be playing with 11 strikers.

Shame about this lad, good player but if he can’t stay fit I wouldn’t want to see him back. Hope the Austin rumours are true. Berahino; not so sure. Would have preferred Mitrovic I think. Still need to strengthen the defence badly. Not seen us linked with many defender to get excited about yet. As for McClaren, I’ve come round to the idea. Especially with Carver gone. But still many signings needed and people need to leave. Interested to see who’s given the armband.

Italy made a complaint to UEFA after a large Swastika was etched into the turf for their game against Croatia.
It was particularly extraordinary because this Euro 2016 qualifier at the Stadion Poljud in Split was behind closed doors because of racist chanting from Croatian fans against Norway. The abomination was spotted from the stands and the Italian FIGC pointed this out to UEFA authorities in the arena.

Evidently the Croatian FA also realised there was a problem, as people rushed to cover it up during the half-time break.

You can make it out very easily in the picture.

  • 27 stan anderson // Jun 12, 2015 at 9:56 PM

Cant help being a bit sceptical about all of the promises about winning trophy suddenly. Is all the last 8 years forgotten and all the previous bullshit we have been fed.
We have just appointed a H.C.Director or whatever he is and we all expect all to change.
I honestly hope i am wrong but it all smells a little bit to me,smells of lies and deceit to sell S.T.s to us mugs.
Why cant we just go and sign some of the linked players, instead of talking of signing them.
Nothing has changed, just a new face in the frame.

It”s easy to dismiss Carroll as a crock or prodigal son, because it’s largely and obviously so, but he also has a unique and thrilling talent, but more prescient is his circumstance. He has a new manager and two years left on his contract on big money. If he’s unwanted you might get him for next to nothing to get his wages off the books, and if he’s willing to take a pay cut to come home, or incentive based pay as you play it becomes more viable. I don’t believe bringing Carroll back, would be viewed negatively by the match day crowd either. He’s been admired as a player, even loved everywhere he’s played despite the abysmal injury record.

Jimmy Andy Carroll is not going to take a paycut of 30-40 grand to come back and he certainly won’t agree to a pay as you play deal.

West Ham are stuck with him.

In my opinion fat Sams insistence on signing him played a big part in his demise at West Ham.

  • 104 Fatman_joe // Jun 13, 2015 at 12:01 AM

G2, maths never been your strong point? Saying mcclaren’s win rate is 45 which means 15 wins. It’s actually more than 46% which equals around 52 points which would have got us 10th this season. A vast improvement on where we actually finished. And that’s not including inevitable draws which will be a few more points.

  • 105 Toon Tang // Jun 13, 2015 at 12:07 AM

Maybe we need to sink even further into oblivion before he would realistically take the job. Hes probably waiting till were literally playing our matches on a bit of wasteland in potato sacks with only 7 players and a popped ‘shoot 5’ ball.

He may JUST take the job then eh. Only time will tell.

Anyways, have a merry evening whatever yous are up to.

  • 106 ToonFromLeeds // Jun 13, 2015 at 12:08 AM

we’d have to be desperate lol

  • 107 jimmysmith // Jun 13, 2015 at 12:10 AM

It is unlikely, but the pay cut might not be 30 to 40 if the fee is low, the pay as you play would refer to match day bonuses, not a base wage, which he’d have to be given, and also, he’s been taking money out of clubs for years without earning it, not his fault, he’s a footballer, who most likely wants to play, it doesn’t necessarily follow he’s a mercenary. I wouldn’t discount it, and as time passes, it becomes more realistic, although I agree, still unlikely. I’ll admit though, I’m a fan.

  • 108 ToonFromLeeds // Jun 13, 2015 at 12:16 AM

Hmm very strange, our rumours have been out for ages so you’d think he’s have said summat before now so I’m guessing it was the Chelsea rumours or maybe summat of nothing

  • 116 SuperShearer // Jun 13, 2015 at 12:39 AM

The Chelsea rumour is a very odd one. You’d think Mourinho would have better options than Austin. No disrespect to the lad but they’ve got a bottomless pit of money, Costa is their preferred lone striker, they’ll sign a back-up now Drogba has retired but not convinced it will be Austin UNLESS they need to fill their UK player quota.

possibly, I know that Chelsea are signing Falcao so why would they need another striker?

  • 118 SuperShearer // Jun 13, 2015 at 12:45 AM

More importantly why would Austin, who has just got an England call-up, want to go an warm the bench at Chelsea. I know money is always a factor but at some point your career has to come first, you’re still going to get paid good money wherever you play.

  • 119 ToonFromLeeds // Jun 13, 2015 at 12:47 AM

he should know he’d get much more playing time here than Stamford bridge

  • 120 JP...from The Rock // Jun 13, 2015 at 12:49 AM

So sick of Carroll!! SICK NOTE GO FCUK OFF ALREADY!!

  • 121 ToonFromLeeds // Jun 13, 2015 at 12:49 AM

    So its Frank Lampard OBE

  • 123 musomag // Jun 13, 2015 at 1:16 AM

If we secure Austin’s services and a great CB first then I’d have no major problem with Andy coming back. It’s not like he’d be the only one in the NUFC treatment room

  • 124 Honoured2BNUFC // Jun 13, 2015 at 1:16 AM

Welshie first off you are a bellend STFU. However some of the comments being thrown back are racist and offensive. Shame on all of you for turning the blog to this. I usually enjoy the comments and banter. This is all so irrelevant grow up all of you.

After a while, he will get fed up and bugger off.

If the 1st Striker bought in is Andy Carroll..then you can expect what kind of Game Steve McClaren is going to play.

How can I say this about a fellow Geordie, well I can.
Fcuk Andy Carroll, what player born and bred would leave our club and no offence he isn’t no Shearer. He purely went for the money and that’s how sad the game is today. He is always injured and honestly he goal scoring record is nothing special, Andy sorry mate but you lost the respect of the fans that gave you there all.

  • 134 Big Archie // Jun 13, 2015 at 6:06 AM

Andy Carroll???? No No No No No No!

  • 135 expatmag // Jun 13, 2015 at 6:59 AM

I would on ly have him if he was fully fit, on a pay as you play contract and supported by two goalscoring wingers who could cross tje ball.

I think I am probably asking for too much here.

  • 136 firebug666 // Jun 13, 2015 at 7:02 AM

    Alternative Headline @102

I agree mate, should have more coverage in the media. As the game was played behind closed doors, it had to have been made by someone at the ground, Probably one of the groundsmen.

The fact that it wasn’t spotted, (or maybe just ignored) before kick of is appalling, and it wasn’t until the Italian’s pointed it out to UEFA officials that it was hastily covered up at half time.

Our top man informs us Newcastle in initial negotiations with PSV for playmaker Georginio Wijnaldum. Fee would be in region of £9m #NUFC

    usmagpie –

Carroll was manoevred out of the club by Ashley
as he wanted the £35 million more than he wanted
    Carroll.

I wonder what Soocer Sauce means by ‘initial negotiations?

Is that the bit that’s meant to sell season tickets before coming to nothing? Rather than serious negotiations!

I thought it was widely reported that Newcastle were resisting Liverpool’s advances for Carroll until he put in a transfer request.

Either way, we got the deal of the century, and I would not be happy to see him return. We have enough on trying to keep the players we have fit.

  • 141 firebug666 // Jun 13, 2015 at 7:42 AM

    lesh

Quite possibly mate. I have to say Soccer Sauce are usually on the money though.

If we have made an enquiry (initial negotiations) it will depend if we have baulked at the asking price around £9m.

We would likely offer £2m and a SD mug.

  • 142 STB // Jun 13, 2015 at 8:03 AM

Carroll basically had injuries as bad as woodgate’s and will never recover fully.
Woodgate’s fitness demise was a crying shame. On his day the best CB I’ve seen in a toon top.
Carroll could have been a very good typical English centre forward although I never considered him to be a natural finisher like Shearer or even Micky Quinn. Carroll was too boozy and not committed enough to look after himself & become a real athlete.
    Move on…

This is what happens when you don’t know the facts about Andy ( The grass is greener ) Carroll.

    Link: http://www.telegraph.co.uk/sport/football/teams/liverpool/8295072/Liverpool-complete-36m-record-signing-of-Newcastle-striker-Andy-Carroll.html

He put in his request to leave the club. Sorry but the only other thing worse than this would be signing for the Mackems.
