Newcastle In Bid For Top Bundesliga Striker

Newcastle have been linked with a lot of strikers over the last few days,  and they include QPR’s 25 year-old Charlie Austin, West Brom’s 21 year-old Saido Berahino, 21 year-old Chelsea striker Patrick Bamford and 22 year-old Malaga striker Juanmi.

Charlie Austin seems to be Newcastle’s number one striker target, but it’s hard to know who would be next in line – but according to the Mirror Newcastle have made a bid of £9M for Wolfsburg striker Bas Dost – all 6’5″ of him – and they have offered him a four year deal.

bas dost wolfsburg

Bas Dost – Newcastle have reportedly bid £9M

Dost had a great second half to the season with 20 goals in 36 total appearances for his club, after he had started the season as their third choice striker, and his goals powered Wolfsburg into the runners-up position in the Bundesliga behind only Bayern Munich.

The news in the Mirror is that we are in with a £9M bid for the Dutch International – and that seems a decent bid for a player who still has two years left on his contract at Wolfsburg.

Steve McClaren was the Wolfsburg manager for seven months in 2011 after leaving FC Twente, after the club had just won their first ever Dutch Championship,  but Bas Dost didn’t join from Heerenveen until the summer of 2012.

There’s still plenty of time in the transfer window of course, and not much transfer business has been conducted this summer, but it’s important Newcastle get some players in over the next couple of weeks – and maybe one of them will be Bas Dost.

We wouldn’t be surprised if the news in the Mirror is accurate.

Bas offers nothing and would probably fail at NUFC and the PL itself.

If we do sign him don’t get your hopes up

This rumour seems to be the most likely of all at the moment. Bad Dost will be a welcome addition to a (hopefully) new strike force at Newcastle. The only problem is that his name is a Dyslexic nightmare – dosh boch !

If we get him and Austin we are set upfront for a long time knock on wood! Then we need at least 2 CBs, I think we can get by on our MFs this year if we get 2 strikers and 2 CBs. Next year we can concentrate on MFs if there is a need.

New castle will be looking for the cheapest option for the striker department.

We have 4 strikers Cisse, Gouffran, Perez and Rive, no doubt SM will have a lonely striker up top so why go for another striker?

I really can’t see them paying 15 million for Austin or anybody else for that matter.

10 million max I reckon. Dost for 9 million sounds more believable.

I hope I’m wrong because you won’t get any top players for 10 and under.

Here we go. We’re gonna be linked with every man and his dog from now until the season starts.

On another note, Hubby wants me to end every post with “And don’t Sign Carroll” Really doesn’t like him. Not totally sure why.

He seems to be another Cisse. Lots of tap ins from being in the right place at the right time. No contribution in build up play.

Second article is pretty much just waffle but the first article is interesting. I’ve seen quite a bit of german football last season but not too much of Wolfsburg if I’m honest. With dost he is a confidence player and is heavily reliant on service. Saying that his finishing is great and he comes alive in the 18 yard box.

might not do well in his first season if he comes, looking at his scoring stats for the 3 clubs he spent more than 1 season with he didn’t score many in his first season(s) but scored a lot in his last season with them. maybe he likes to make a move after a good season.

I would say CB is more important than wingers at the moment, because our defense is horrendous. If we get 2 CBs and get Jamal as well, I think we would get a much better showing out of Krul and actually have more of a chance to win games than if we forget about our defense.

    Blofal & Nezza

Tell me exactly what you are looking for in a striker, for me all that matters is goals. You can have the best hold up play in the world, great passer of the ball, excellent team player but the most important attribute for a striker is goals. I couldn’t give a toss all he knows is where the goal is…..that’s what we need.

Riviere does all the things Cisse can’t do, cisse does the important thing that Riviere will never be able to do…..score goals!! Give me a goalscorer any day of the week over a “team build up playing striker”

I think Collocini and S Taylor are possibly a top eight CB pairing, but Lascelles, Dummett and Good, doubtful to put it mildly. It would appear patently ridiculous to add a player like Chester to that lot. Particularly after the season we’ve just endured. I can’t believe it, and expect us to sign a player of more proven quality, if probably, from one of the lesser leagues in Europe.

S.Taylor is injury prone. Never finished a season. And he always gets e injury wen we really need him.

The man we need is Ryan Shawcross.

Add him to Colo and we have a top six pairing.

“Steve McClaren an unlikely choice to end Newcastle’s major trophy wait”

Originally titled “Steve McClaren unlikely to end Newcastle’s major trophy wait”, then mysteriously changed.

Still, an interesting read, Although you might think written largely in a miff about the exclusive nature of Newcastle’s attitude to the press.

    @Our TOON,

I want a version of Riviere that doesn’t fall over every time he shoots. He is brilliant at hold up play and getting into the right positions but he just can’t score.

For a striker like Cisse or Bas Dost we need attacking wingers and midfielders putting chances on a plate for them. I’m happy with having that kind of striker if the rest of our team is good enough. But our players aren’t good enough at the moment and I’m not sure we’ll bring in the required players.

Cisse and Ba went nuts when Cabaye, Jonas, Ben Arfa and to some extent Raylor were all in blistering form feeding the pipeline.

At first glance Perez, Sissoko, Cabella and De Jong should be better at supplying a striker but it didn’t happen last year (thanks Cisse for being suspended). Maybe they are? We’ll soon find out.

There aren’t many strikers around in world football who can do what you require from a forward. More importantly there isn’t one for the market value that we look at. Ideally in a dream world I’d want a Benteke, Lukaku or Bony type of forward. A brute that’s strong on in all aspects but we won’t pay for someone like that.

Cisse didn’t do to bad last season considering he had 1 knee and as you say….limited service, still finished with a higher minutes to goals ratio than any of the strikers we are apparently after.

9m quid under MA is a heck of alot money for 1 player, where have you been for the past 8 or 9 years? Think cisse is the only one we spent thay kind of money on under MA, apparently Cabella was 7m with add ons though!! 9m is nothing for others but indeed for us under this goon it’s big

Cheaper than Austin, Berahino, or even Bamford. Foreign and a chance of making a buck or two on him quickly (next Summer).
Perfect for the Ashley model. Some people really believe things are going to be different?
    Oh my.
