Newcastle Holding Transfer Talks This Week

News in the Chronicle today that Newcastle will be holding an important transfer meeting this week to discuss the priorities for which strikers to go after, but you would have thought by now we would have put some bids in for our top striker targets – like Charlie Austin for example.

After the season ends, the next two or three weeks are usually spent with players, agents and coaches on vacation, and of course there are the International games too, so not much is usually done during that time.

Papiss Cisse – Newcastle want £10M for him

But it’s now over three weeks since the season ended,  and pre-season starts in just a couple of weeks, so it would be good to have two or three players in by then.

We would expect after the meeting this week that bids will be lodged for our top striker targets, and they include players Like Charlie Austin, Bas Dost and Saido Berahino amongst other.

It has been widely reported that we put in a bid of £9M for Bas Dost and offered him a four year deal – so according to some reports Newcastle have already started the bidding process.

We had reported yesterday that Newcastle are willing to sell striker Papiss Cisse – but only after we have brought in two new strikers – so the news that £10M is the price on Papiss’ head (at least for now) should not be too surprising.

That’s still a lot for a player who turned 30 this month, and it’s a little more than we paid SC Freiburg for him in January of 2012, when he joined Newcastle.

But Papiss has now fully recovered from that broken knee-cap of his that affected him last season, and we’d prefer Papiss to stay at Newcastle.

Papiss has a contract on Tyneside that runs through June of 2017.

It would be good to get say three players in before pre-season starts, and that would convince fans that Newcastle are serious about building up the squad to challenge for a cup next season.

Newcastle have the money to spend – that’s for sure.
