Newcastle Holding Transfer Talks This Week

8:35 am, Wednesday, June 17th, 2015 by Dr. Ed Harrison · 112 Comments

News in the Chronicle today that Newcastle will be holding an important transfer meeting this week to discuss the priorities for which strikers to go after, but you would have thought by now we would have put some bids in for our top striker targets – like Charlie Austin for example.

After the season ends, the next two or three weeks are usually spent with players, agents and coaches on vacation, and of course there are the International games too, so not much is usually done during that time.

papiss cisse forbes

Papiss Cisse – Newcastle want £10M for him

But it’s now over three weeks since the season ended,  and pre-season starts in just a couple of weeks, so it would be good to have two or three players in by then.

We would expect after the meeting this week that bids will be lodged for our top striker targets, and they include players Like Charlie Austin, Bas Dost and Saido Berahino amongst other.

It has been widely reported that we put in a bid of £9M for Bas Dost and offered him a four year deal – so according to some reports Newcastle have already started the bidding process.

We had reported yesterday that Newcastle are willing to sell striker Papiss Cisse – but only after we have brought in two new strikers – so the news that £10M is the price on Papiss’ head (at least for now) should not be too surprising.

That’s still a lot for a player who turned 30 this month, and it’s a little more than we paid SC Freiburg for him in January of 2012, when he joined Newcastle.

But Papiss has now fully recovered from that broken knee-cap of his that affected him last season, and we’d prefer Papiss to stay at Newcastle.

Papiss has a contract on Tyneside that runs through June of 2017.

It would be good to get say three players in before pre-season starts, and that would convince fans that Newcastle are serious about building up the squad to challenge for a cup next season.

Newcastle have the money to spend – that’s for sure.

Comments welcome.

Cisse has been in the press recently saying how wonderful the fans are and how happy he is and how much we wants to stay…a sign for sure he wants to go without the fans turning on him

He’ll be off to somewhere like Qatar for his final pay day for sure

They’re due to hold a meeting?

Just what has Charnley been doing for the last three weeks?

Bugger all by the looks of it!

sure they have held one of these meetings the past 8 weeks…….if they are just starting now what the hell have they been doing….

  • 5 lesh // Jun 17, 2015 at 8:48 AM

    Sparky

I’d imagine Cisse’ll find Qatar’ll a bit more welcoming than Gateshead!

The Newcastle board have decided to hold a meeting this week.. It took them three weeks to decide that. It’s like the Ents in Lord of the Rings.. It takes a lot of time to speak Entish..

  • 7 stan anderson // Jun 17, 2015 at 8:50 AM

Yes lets strart discussions about possible targets.
Most clubs have i.d the targets and have began negotiations to get them in.
We are likely deciding who we can sell for a few bob.
Will we make any signings before the deadline is come and gone.Doubt it.
    Hope i am wrong though.

how on earth can we not agree a deal with a bunch of championship coaches i have been told we have offered less basic then derby but bigger incentives how on earth did charnley every get this job what chance have we got of getting players if we cannot sort the coaching staff out

  • 9 Charlie in the Gallowgate // Jun 17, 2015 at 8:50 AM

F***in meeting this week narrow down list of strikers they could be after. Should of been done before the end of season – IDIOTS.
And does this mean £10 million price tag for Cisse really mean they are not really after a striker – smoking mirrors or what
Even the mackems have got someone over the line on loan Carl Jenkinson and what do we do have a F•••IN MEETING five weeks after the season ends to decide on targets.
Still reckon we will start next season with at least 9 of this seasons squad

  • 10 sparky55 // Jun 17, 2015 at 8:51 AM

“After the season ends, the next two or three weeks are usually spent with players, agents and coaches on vacation, and of course there are the International games too, so not much is usually done during that time.”

Looks like you’re making excuses for your new paymaster there Ed

Just goes to show how slow we’ve been getting out the blocks…why we only having a meeting this week to discuss when 3 of our so called targets have already been snapped up FFS.

No doubt SM has been told to sell before he buys and that’s the problem…no fcuker wants to buy any of our existing tat so we’re stuck in Limbo

    Waste of space

We signed Perez and Colback in the first week of June last summer.
    Despite the holidays.
I can’t think why we were so quick off the mark signing up this £2m combination.
De Jong was in by July 1.

  • 12 davidginola87 // Jun 17, 2015 at 8:59 AM

This meeting should have taken place 2 minutes after the “press interview” of him taking the job. What have they been doing for the last week? All the players are on a break, so it isn’t training. I want Charnleys job, gets paid a fortune, seems to do nothing and then gets the best seat in the house to watch my beloved team.

Apparently Austin wants to come to us. His tweet about shearer was the most obvious “come get me” I have ever seen. He is linked to Chelsea and Liverpool but you don’t see him tweeting about their club record goal scorer.

The lets sit on our hands for another week will only make these targets look and see other clubs. Look at Southampton with the Spanish lad. Monday morning it broke they where interested and then by Tuesday tea time he is holding up a scarf in the ground!!!

“we make our own luck” ” we will change the way we do things” how? the only change I have seen is that Ashley has given charnley the money and stepped off the board, so now its charnley we get to blame. Blaming another person for the same Bulls**t isn’t changing the way you do things.

  • 25 Jib // Jun 17, 2015 at 9:21 AM

I think the general public have very little idea how the transfer window works.
First class footballers are young selfish millionaires in the main who as soon as the season is finished and hard training stopped ,just want to chill out on some sunny beach for a few weeks.
Those few who want a transfer , task their agents with the job. The agents spend the time up to July 1 scurrying around sorting out deals with different clubs. The clubs board as NUFC are doing now sit down to shuffle through all the agents proposals.
The players come back from hol and the agents say “Offer A,B, and C which do you want”
The player may say straightaway but more often than not , needs thinking and discussing time , may even go on the internet looking out houses etc. fone around his aquaintances asking about different clubs coaching systems etc.
All this time bloggers are jumping up and down with steam coming out of their ears being very rude to all and sundry.

The window system is crap , unfair and guess what , it was dreamt up by a committee in FIFA headed up by a certain Josep Blatter.

I don’t post on here very often now but having followed the news on our transfers since the end of last season I feel I’ve got to say what a joke we are as a club. I can’t see us getting any of the players we are supposed to be after, I hope I’m wrong but I can see next season being one long struggle against relegation.

  • 33 Tsunki // Jun 17, 2015 at 9:33 AM

Jib if you don’t include the fact that the agents spend most of their time assessing and reassessing their clients’ potential for a strategic move regardless of so called loyalties and personal sporting ambition, hence a nice fat percentage fee payday , then you’re not really helping the ‘General Public’, who comprise the ‘Joe Soap’ and ‘Great Unwashed’ and the ‘Everyone else but the Ever Wise and All-Knowing, All-Seeing Jeff” to understand the mysteries and Common Person Befuddling of the “Transfer System”.

You know until Jeff gave us the Idiots Guide to Simple Business I hadn’t the first clue what went on in Transferenland. I thought players just got left on the doorstep by a stork. Watch and Learn. That means you, T.C. Mits!

  • 34 mkhalaf // Jun 17, 2015 at 9:36 AM

SM is on the board,, and surley we want him to be on board with our transfer targets,, so Im not worried about the delay in transfers.. first we get the HC in,, then we start looking at targets to suit him.
Im sure we will have a fruitful transfer window and SM will build a team suited for his playing style from scratch..

still havent gotten in the rest of the coaching staff yet

  • 35 Laurent Robert 32 // Jun 17, 2015 at 9:39 AM

It’s a joke really. The list should have been prepared and ready so that on the first day of the transfer window they are raring to go to get them signed up, regardless of the manager being there or not. It’s not like we’re waiting for one particular player. We need lots!

It’s just more carrot dangling at work.

    Ashley out.

  • 36 Average_Contents // Jun 17, 2015 at 9:40 AM

Any news on shteve’s men he wants to bring in?

    Thought not.

    Any players signed?

    Thought not.

Any news on players we want in?

    Thought not.

The initial wave of optimism that followed honest john and stoneage’s sacking quickly followed by shteve’s appointment does appear to have subsided. New leaf my fcuking arse.

Players we should of been considering we’ve missed out on because they can’t agree on a time to meet to discuss the targets. We finally decide on a player so far down the list that his name is discernable then miss out because we offered a basic wage akin to a zero hour SD worker.

Backroom staff, coaches and assistants not employed in a timely fashion because of penny pinching and reluctance to pay wages over the summer when fcukall gets done. Why have them here when they’ve nowt to do eh.

    Business as usual it seems.

    Fat twat out.

no excuse for not signing players as we track them over long periods because we wait for there contract to run down
so I bet our list of targets was done before the end of jan

why we haven’t moved for any1 is I bet there waiting for McLaren to asses the squad so they don’t have to spend to much

    Beer,
I can’t remember who posted it earlier, but I bet that a lot of this waiting is because they are worried about having too many overage players on the books if they can’t get shot of some of them. They can only use 25 in the league, and we probably already have that many on the books.

We might be one of the favorites for relegation. It’s going to be incredibly difficult season because our squad morale might be zero by the time October comes.

No no no everyone, don’t panic! These transfer deals take months of grinding out. Don’t be fooled by the over zealous examples of what we like to call “Every Other Club” rushing out and buying just any old fantastic player without checking that a stork can lift him first! Patience is the key. Just sign the Direct Debit and send it back in the envelope we promise we will have a viable product on the market come August.

    Jib

I am sure it is accurate and you do a very good job of justifying the situation regarding the alleged club meeting to discuss the offers they have. However due to the lack of immediate transfer activity to fill the desperate need for at least a striker and a central defender, the Club have left themselves open to speculation and criticism.

Attempting to decide how they can achieve the best ‘value for money’ is not a progressive policy in the light of the past three seasons. In order to maximise the opportunity of attracting the players with the potential quality to immediately improve the squad, will require the Club to pay more than their rivals. In order to avoid a bidding ‘war’ the club should have analysed the needs of the team, identified the individual(s) and ensured the transaction was completed at any expense before any market around a player has chance to form. Instead we have death by committee, a policy lead agenda and an elongated procedure that inflates prices as a result of its own mechanisms.

  • 61 Lilongwe Geordie // Jun 17, 2015 at 10:14 AM

    Beer,
We don’t have to, but I can’t imagine the bean counters and Ashley being too happy if we have players on the books getting paid who can’t be named in the squad.

  • 62 YouCouldn'tMakeItUp // Jun 17, 2015 at 10:15 AM

A lot of those fixtures will have to change after new year to accomodate for our cup fixtures, of which there will be many, due to Mashes clear ambition to win something.

Honestly, how can there still be people on here who claim to have university education, and still believe in what Fatty says?

We should be able to beat Watford with our squad though. Three points by end of September should have SJP rocking.

  • 64 BandB // Jun 17, 2015 at 10:17 AM

You may recognise this, Jeff, as being the moment when I traditionally turn and walk away from you while you draw attention to yourself by throwing stuttering inanities at my back.

  • 65 Jib // Jun 17, 2015 at 10:17 AM

Agent Bruce is really thick he actually thinks his wing back is called Elmo Hamedy

Alright guys , Was going to book a trip away to 1st game of season (from N.Ireland) as a fathers day present.
Only after reading the game will be moved due to Southamptons Thursday night game in the Europa League.
Any advice on what flights I should book or the likelihood on it being moved to Skysports Monday Night football??
    Cheers

    Lil

If the bean counters aren’t happy with having so many under 22s, they’ve only themselves to blame – they signed them as cheapies!

Lindisfarne, oh ye of little faith – understandably.

  • 71 Jib // Jun 17, 2015 at 10:22 AM

I see we play Arsenal Aug 29th
We should do to Wenger what he did to Cabaye the other summer , the fox.
The window closes the following Tuesday
We should put a huge bid in for Cazorla and Sanchez to unsettle them

  • 72 Lindisfarne // Jun 17, 2015 at 10:24 AM

Flights going in a westerly, or southern direction!

Under UEFA rules they only have to move to Sunday.

  • 74 Lindisfarne // Jun 17, 2015 at 10:25 AM

    ( and not to Southampton)

  • 75 BandB // Jun 17, 2015 at 10:26 AM

    Unsettle them?

I think it would give Wenger Cazorla and Sanchez the biggest chortle since the Smash Martians first clapped eyes on a potato.

    Thanks Jib

I was planning for a perfect two night trip Friday afternoon back Sunday night so that would of covered me for the Saturday & Sunday late kick offs.
Do you think Id be safe flying out Saturday Morning & back Monday then?
I know the chances of us being moved to Monday are slim but still . . . . . Thanks

  • 78 Keith in France // Jun 17, 2015 at 10:38 AM

Difficult to know what to belive.

One day media partner is reporting that we are meeting players/agents/putting bids in etc , the next the ‘football board’ will meet this week to discuss possible targets.

Didn’t S McC say he hoped to have his support team in position by Monday?

Same old NUFC I am afraid or inaccurate reporting?

  • 79 davetoon // Jun 17, 2015 at 10:39 AM

Well there won’t be a last gane bailout this season against spurs.

  • 80 mickalfas // Jun 17, 2015 at 10:39 AM

I bet Southampton have breathed a sigh of relief ,they play us before all of our world class signings get to gel properly !!!

  • 81 Ibizatoon // Jun 17, 2015 at 10:39 AM

    Morning all.

    That fixture list looks fun.

I’m sure the club will get their business done a.s.a.p so that they’re all settled and ready to go.

They surely wouldn’t wait to see how we cope in the those first few games to judge how we’re doing and to see if we really need to strenghten that much…

  • 82 Jib // Jun 17, 2015 at 10:41 AM

You are in the hands of Sky
Have a look at their website
If a team has already been allocated Monday night it’s knocking bet we’ll be tea-time Sunday.

  • 85 Jail for Ashley // Jun 17, 2015 at 10:43 AM

Last summer I predicted there would be investment simply because there has to be. This summer I’m not so sure. STaylor will be back to partner Collo, so they have Willo, Dummet and this Forest lad to cover there. They have Haidara and Dummet as LBs and Anita/ Dummet as RB cover. The logic of last seasons injury problems surely can’t happen again will be applied. A young Championship midfielder will be brought in, two if Tiote refuses to sign a new heavily incentive based deal and is moved on. As SDJ is returning and Cisse is fitter this time round a striker will be brought in once a loan fee and agreement to cover all Perezs wages is agreed with one of the promoted clubs.

  • 88 davetoon // Jun 17, 2015 at 10:45 AM

Maybe. No doubt we will be relying on the likes of Villa and the mackems again to be worse than us.

  • 89 Tsunki // Jun 17, 2015 at 10:46 AM

Ibiza didn’t answer your question last night as I was too tired. What was it again? Something about how optimistic was I about the coming season? The answer would be not.

Jeff, as Pokat I deliberately posted in a different style, but left hefty clues as to who I really was which nobody picked up on sadly.

As Jib, you’ve done both, but sadly everyone’s picked up on it.

And it was always my intention to fess up. Any thoughts?

  • 90 Jail for Ashley // Jun 17, 2015 at 10:47 AM

As Ibiza has just said the situation will be assesed for any deadline signings. How the club will react to Mclaren finishing 12/16th is to obvious to post.

  • 91 Jail for Ashley // Jun 17, 2015 at 10:48 AM

    Tsunki,
As you have been a long term user of the blog I still think it was out of order that pokat thing.

  • 92 optimistic prime // Jun 17, 2015 at 10:49 AM

Maybe the clubs waiting for the other teams to buy their players first.

Less chance of signing a dud then 😉

  • 93 Lindisfarne // Jun 17, 2015 at 10:52 AM

    Ibizatoon

Good morning, the scenario you describe is clearly a process you have learned through repeated exposure. Can the club curb their gambling habit for a progressive transfer policy?

  • 94 Tsunki // Jun 17, 2015 at 10:52 AM

Keith @ 77 – sorry I don’t follow your reasoning. I think it looks like you’re saying that the ” Media Partners” and the club announcements aren’t quite tallying? I think you must be mistaken. That could never happen as the “Media Partners” are the mouthpiece of Truth and a mirror (ha see what I did there?’ of all the known wisdom in the sky ( ha see? See?) of Newcastle Footy Company Direct.com. No I think you just need some help interpreting it.

Isn’t anybody going to inform dannyboy that jeff/jib/Jane is complete and utter waste of spunk?

    Dannyboy

Jeff/jib/Jane is a complete and utter waste of spunk.

So in this instance or any future ones for that matter, I wouldn’t put your faith in it.

I’d suggest using google normally but it’s a tad clogged up at the moment lol

  • 97 Tsunki // Jun 17, 2015 at 10:58 AM

Jail I apologised already give me a break! But Pokat did reveal a weak point of the blog, it’s all too easy to add weight to a group viewpoint by making the group… well… bigger. it’s still happening as you see this morning. I conceded I may not have helped, in the style of someone posting online how to break into a car in 5 seconds. Ed isn’t going to fix it by the look. It should be easy to have someone fixed to an ip range or Mac address or combination of things to make it difficult to multi-troll.

But once again sorry if it offended.

  • 98 BandB // Jun 17, 2015 at 10:58 AM

I know you and Jeff weren’t too fond Tsunki.

Are you now saying you don’t like the cut of his Jib?

  • 99 richyg01 // Jun 17, 2015 at 10:59 AM

Apparently West Ham have moved ahead of us for Austin now.

Cant sell Cisse till we have replacements surely…

  • 100 Tsunki // Jun 17, 2015 at 11:00 AM

    Average – I thought I did? 🙂

  • 101 Laurent Robert 32 // Jun 17, 2015 at 11:02 AM

Talk of Cisse going is daft. Put the ball regularly in the box with quality and he will score lots of goals, thus we will score lots of goals.

    Average_Contents – hahaahahahahahah

  • 103 Tsunki // Jun 17, 2015 at 11:03 AM

BandB jeff was one of the reasons I did the Pokat thing. Pokat contributed to chase him off but I suppose it was inevitable the chameleon would adapt. But he’s still a lizard.

  • 104 Tsunki // Jun 17, 2015 at 11:05 AM

Average you know I thought Google was pretty slow lately. Hmmm.

  • 105 Tsunki // Jun 17, 2015 at 11:07 AM

I can’t see the sense in selling Cisse now either, unless he has specifically demanded a plane out. Why would you flog your most productive and proven striker when you actually need at least one more? Of course this is nufc, but still…

  • 106 Ibizatoon // Jun 17, 2015 at 11:08 AM

Sorry, I thought I had some time. I was wrong. Catch you all later. Been lovely chatting…must do it again sometime 🙂

  • 107 Lindisfarne // Jun 17, 2015 at 11:08 AM

    PRESS ANNOUNCEMENT:

NUFC increasingly hooked on the Norwegian Reyd Hurrinck who has been frequently finding the net and is the best performer in Finland. IMO there is something fishy about this story.

  • 108 Jail for Ashley // Jun 17, 2015 at 11:10 AM

    Tsunki,
Not offended, but when established and respected posters such as yourself start doing it, it justifies doing the same to people like Jeff and Ian Toon, all we’ll get now is those two calling ‘pokat’ out. Ian Toon hasn’t stopped going on about raj of Hailsley which was pretty obvious from the off it was me. I think it’s pretty clear to everyone now that multiples are a pest, they don’t need encouraging.

  • 109 Rotonda heights // Jun 17, 2015 at 11:11 AM

I can’t believe people bought Ash’s interview!! As soon as the words ”pound for pound” were uttered you knew it was game over.

8 years of misery and counting…… we have a sacked championship manager who isn’t even allowed to appoint his underwhelming sidekick Paul Simpson, due to wage negotiations.

I hope Ash gets the biggest shock of his life with non ST renewals. How long can any community keep sanctioning this.

  • 110 BandB // Jun 17, 2015 at 11:12 AM

You don’t have to explain to me Tsunki.
We got one very amusing evening out of it.
He has as many heads as a hydra.
Luckily, they are all the same….

Anyway, he’s outed now. Whether he likes it or not.
I hope people won’t just forget the splurge of Newcastle-loathing spite his best mate Welshgeordie9 finally couldn’t resist any longer.
As they are birds of a feather.

  • 111 GeordieinOhio // Jun 17, 2015 at 12:56 PM

So the board has not even sat down yet to discuss transfers? NO BLOOD SURPRISE THERE! ….No coaching staff in place either!, so every rumor of potential players coming in is a lie! because obviously chumely and wolly have not even talked about who to bring in ….yet people still believe in this regime and the “winds of change” interview done by ashley!!

  • 112 richardj1986 // Jun 17, 2015 at 3:39 PM

i love how everyone is so positive at the moment…. we knew nothing about the majority of our signings till they happen.

What has the board been doing in the last 3 weeks. errrr it appointed a new manager… that manager is yet to train with our players. yer he will know there ability but fresh slate springs to mind. I would love Jonas to be signed for another year, not as he is a world beater but because he gave his all and that is what you need in some games…

That manager/head coach, we appointed is on the board so he will be having he say in who we should be approaching.. yes Carr will have a list and i hope we find a few more Perez’s. but i think that the club need to approach 4 £10 million players to spark life into the fans. and shut some whiners up.
