McClaren After Transfer Talks – It’s Been A Great Productive Week

One of the things we like about Steve McClaren is that he’s an excellent communicator, and he’s almost the polar opposite of John Carver – who was good only at communicating about himself and what he wanted to achieve on Tyneside – like get the head coach position.

When you do that kind of thing – it’s very difficult to have good leadership skills.

The other thing we like about Steve is that he’s very willing to communicate and tell Newcastle fans what’s going on – and since the head coach is almost the single source of information we get about Newcastle, that’s got to be good.

Steve McClaren – it’s been a great productive week

Steve has completed talks with the other three members of the Board, Managing Director Lee Charnley, Chief Scout Graham Carr and Club Ambassador Bob Moncur, on the transfer targets, and so we hope there’s some signings coming up shortly.

This is what Steve has said:

“It has been a great week, a productive week and everything is very positive,” “It’s been a week of getting to know people, getting to know the structure and getting to know the staff.”

“I’ve been sat down with Graham, Lee and Bob, going through what the plans are, what the club has been doing, the current squad, targets and assessing things.”

“We have to build some momentum and then keep that going, and that is what we are trying to do.” “Behind the scenes, we are working very, very hard to make sure we are ready for the new season.” “I’m starting to put my stamp on things.”

“Without going into too much detail, it’s really been about assessing what has been happening at the club and how we can progress and move things forward.” “I want to send a very clear message to the staff and players that this is a fresh start for everybody, and that we have to all pull together to have an exciting season.”

“It’s a new beginning for Newcastle United, and it’s a nice time to assess things before the players return for pre-season training and the hard work begins.” “I can’t wait for the start of July.”

“That is what the job is all about – having the players around, getting out on the training pitch and getting down to work, preparing for the new season.”

McClaren is a very positive guy, but it’s difficult to be successful in anything if you aren’t positive, as long as you are also realistic about things.

Steve still has to announce his back-room staff, but we can only assume from Steve’s point of view the meetings this week have gone very well.

It would also be very good to have at least a couple of signings in the next week or so.

What do you think?

Comments welcome.

It’s the middle of June so he’s probably going to have to, all the same…

Now now gentlemen, who needs coaches when we have Super Steve, his words of inspiration will astound you, the players will be doing exactly what he wants them to do, and if not, he’ll hit them with his brolly.

    OPTIMISM BIAS
The ability to anticipate is a hallmark of cognition. Inferences about what will occur in the future are critical to decision making, enabling us to prepare our actions so as to avoid harm and gain reward. Given the importance of these future projections, one might expect the brain to possess accurate, unbiased foresight. Humans, however, exhibit a pervasive and surprising bias: when it comes to predicting what will happen to us tomorrow, next week, or fifty years from now, we overestimate the likelihood of positive events, and underestimate the likelihood of negative events.

SM is a major sufferer of optimisim bias .. but he’ll learn fast

What were these meetings about? Other planned meetings but you couldn’t agree on when and where more like. Go on your holidays lads there’s nothing to see here was the most likely outcome.

About as much use as a Swansea supporter on a nufc blog.

I wonder if Stevie boy got his lawyers to pick his contract to bits, things might not be as they seemed if they didn’t. Investment in the playing squad could literally mean buying them all new socks.

So .. our fat btrd has played it right, get someone in cheap, shock him, he walks out, bring back Joe Kinnear, everybody ‘appy .. I hate London

I think McClaren has realised he is getting shafted like pardew and is starting to spout the corporate bull to cover the fact he is becoming another yes man

Chelsea and their money…they can just take Ba, Remy and Austin when they mean nothing to them and everything to us….they would do well to remember we finished above them as the Abramovich money first came in

All these professionals and they don’t know what we need yet? That’s a bit worrying. It’s been pretty obvious for two seasons now.
