There has been news over the last few days that Newcastle have been monitoring Ipswich Town’s 6’5″ tall defender Tyrone Mings, with the 22 year-old able to play center-back or left back, and there are articles in all the local papers today that Newcastle are ready to bid for the player.
Tyrone Mings – Newcastle interested
Take your pick about the fee because it’s quoted as anywhere from £8M to £10M and Newcastle are starting to understand it’s a lot more expensive to buy English players than it is a player from the continent, but that’s our new strategy so Newcastle will have to cough up the money to get these players into the club.
Steve McClaren is aware of Ming’s capabilities from managing in the Championship, and apparently one outcome of a meeting earlier this week with Lee Charnley and Graham Carr is that Newcastle will go after Mings.
Not surprisingly if Mings is to leave Ipswich the Championship side want the maximum fee possible for him, with Arsenal and West Brom the other clubs said to be interested in the player.
While there’s still a lot of time in the transfer market, and there has not been much business conducted by Premier League clubs yet, it’s very important that Newcastle show quickly that they can strengthen their squad this summer.
There are only two weeks left before the players return from pre-season, with the league starting one week early this season because of the Euro 2016 Championships in France next summer.
Newcastle must be aggressive in this transfer market and it would help if we can get in at least two signings in the next two weeks.
Newcastle are going to have to show some boldness and ambition this summer, if we are really going to significantly improve the squad.
But that’s been missing for a while now at the club, and Newcastle may be balking at some of the fees being request for their top targets – and if that’s true that would not be good news.
Comments welcome.

Comment #86BandB @71 – Sorry I should have said “Hi Guys & Gals” 🙂
I think I just about followed your con logic. I was really interested when the transfer window opens rather than close?

Comment #87Barkel, interesting post. Thank God for another reasoned contributor on the blog in addition to the 20 ( at most ! ) normal guys! The big question is though: Are the players as good as you think? The answer is probably no. Pardew is not that bad a manager , as can be seen at Palace already, but he couldnt raise a gallop from our lot. And yes he is not great either! My issue is this model we have – we fatten players up and sell them on – but the players have little incentive to do well by the jersey – they have zero ownership of whats going on and it leads to a lack of fight once things turn against them.

Comment #88Could someone help here .
Could they tell me if Mr Tuff has ever posted a proper footy related comment on this blog.
You know , an opinion on tactics , or thoughts about a game.
I cannot for life of me recall one.
He reminds me of the disruptive bullies you used to get in class at school.
The ones the teachers would love to clip but knew he would go running to his even more bullying dad.

Isn’t when it officially opens a bit of a red herring for those who would like to offer an excuse for inactivity?
It is an undeniable fact that deals are being done left, right, and centre.
The opening of the transfer window doesn’t fire the starting gun for people being allowed to talk to each other and strike deals, as seems to be being suggested.

Comment #93Martoon -. Not sure about that, it’s sounds too much like “how’s about that then, Guys & Gals!” followed by a yodel. 😐 Stick to “Guys” mate, it’s gone gender free anyway now 🙂

You can’t remember Mr Tuff posting a football related comment?
But you’ve only been posting for a few weeks and that’s no basis to ask such a question – unless you’ve been posting under other pseudonyms!
Jeff, Jane and other names, I’m sure, you’ve been catches!

Comment #102BandB…I would like to think I haven’t peaked for the day.
Has anyone got a link to the announcement about the set fans forum meeting? Was there any explanation about why it didn’t get moved to before the West Ham game as originally stated by the club?
