Newcastle Interested In Signing Ashley Cole

Newcastle will have Paul Dummett and Massadio Haidara fighting it out for the left back position at Newcastle next season, and it’s rare that Newcastle have had two specialist left-backs at the club.

Ashley Cole at Roma

So a report in the Star today that Newcastle could be interested in signing Ashley Cole, who turns 35 at the end of the year, seems really far-fetched.

Cole was capped 107 times for England and played at Arsenal and Chelsea before moving to Roma last year on a two year contract as a free agent.

But he played only 16 times for Roma and is not rated by Roma manager Rudi Garcia, and Cole is said to want a return to the Premier League.

One problem with Ashley Cole is that his wages will be sky-high, since he was at Chelsea for eight years and then got a good deal as a free agent last summer to move to Rome.

Newcastle may be able to take Cole on a season long loan deal, but the club seems to be fairly well off at left back, so we’d be surprised if that happens.

And in order to develop Paul Dummett and Massadio Haidara as potential long-term left-backs for Newcastle,  they both need games next season.

Ashley played 228 times for Arsenal and 338 times for Chelsea and was one of the best left backs in the world in his day.

Hilarious. Not a chance. His wages would never be matched plus he could easily still join a CL club. Daft nonsense.

Only way you would find Ashley Cole in the toon would be him sniffing round Walker for another crack on Shezza

The Daily Star wants strung up for this drivel.

Beyond a joke, to think somebody is being paid to write this..

Obviously they don’t follow NUFC closely.

dummett is a superb centre back
both he and haidara should be in the starting line up
we should get robertson or mings as back up for haidara not cheryl cole whos too old

No coaching staff yet for McClaren, as you say. Not exactly a flying start to the new season.

After the turmoil of the last few years would any decent footballer want to come to the TOON if there is another offer on the table. Would you!
To get anyone decent in the TOON will have to pay over the odds plus higher wages bonuses than a lot of clubs and also the location most want to live in London or Manchester.
So it ain’t going to be easy to persuade decent players never mind coaching staff to come to the TOON
    We can only HOPE!!!

More chance of signing a bottle of a Coca-Cola , which would be more enjoyable anyway.
Cole is tarnished goods and I agree with the thinking g that he doesn’t fit the target profile.

So we sell a CB to Roma ,a position which desperately needs strenghtening ,and who the coach apparently thinks highly of .
To try to sign Ashley Cole, for a position we have 2 half decent players ,who the coach doesn’t rate
Is it April the first or what !!

As stated, we will struggle to bring in any coaches or players of quality with Charnley in command. Simple as that. Money talks, but Charnley won’t spend it because clearly his priority is showing Ashley how shrewd and frugal he can be. So, if we can’t “show them the money”, what have we got to bring to the table? With Charnley’s persona he couldn’t attract a seagull with a chip, and McClaren is – most recently – a sacked Championship manager. I imagine we must be one of the hot favourites for relegation with the betting shops and we are well known as the club with “no ambition” – ask any pundit or former player. Oh yeah, did I mention we pay peanuts….?
