Newcastle Transfer Target Made Available By Arsenal

There’s a report in the Mail that Arsenal will finally allow their Costa Rica striker Joel Campbell to leave the club this summer, and the fee is said to be around £5M, which Newcastle can afford.

Newcastle are said to be interested in the player who turns 23 on Thursday, and he’s played only 10 times for the Arsenal first team – but we don’t know if he is still in the frame at Newcastle.

Joel Campbell in Costa Rica colors

Joel has gained most of his experience on loan at various clubs over the last five years,  and last summer he had a good World Cup for Costa Rica.

Last season he was on loan at Villareal, where he played 15 times for them with one goal and the Mail is reporting he is available for just £5M.

It remains to be seen if Campbell is still on Newcastle’s radar, but we were interested in signing the player last summer and at that time the fee talked about was £10M.

Whether Joel will be good enough for Newcastle is a good question, but here’s a cheap alternative to some of our better and more expensive targets.

It’s going to be interesting which strikers Newcastle can get in this summer, and we seem to be having some trouble in getting our transfer targets to Tyneside.

If Newcastle can only get one top striker in this summer we can simply keep Papiss Cisse who still has two years to run on his contract, and at least Papiss will be fully fit next season – which he wasn’t last season and still scored 11 goals for us.

In his career Joel has played 142 first team games with 18 goals and has 42 caps for Costa Rica with 10 goals.

What do you think?

Relax why you behaving like a flappy bird? You couldn’t make it up!! Anyway I’ll apologise to you in advance if I’ve caused you any offence as it’s not what I intended to do. I don’t like the name calling etc so let’s leave flapping birds where it is. As for games on Androids….i wouldn’t have a clue if it was or wasn’t buddy, last time I played a computer game was back on my Commadore 64.

Getting back to the main topic though….do you think the 2 forest lads are good enough to waltz into our 1st team?

I would give him a year or 2 if he goes its another player to bring in
a taylormade fitness regime and coaching could see his consistency get better

His international record suggests that when used right he will score.
His record in Europe is very poor. Wonder how many games he started or how many minutes he played.

5m for Campbell? Its stats don’t look much but his work rate in that costa rica team at the WC was next level! Ran himself into the ground every game! No idea what his ability is mind if anyone wants to enlighten?
I’d still say Brian Ruiz could be a decent squad player. 29 only, on a free transfer!

i wouldn’t want him coaching with us,
he is in the same sort of mould as roy keane and the way they are just doesn’t suit coaching modern players

@Lindisfarne – I think premier league football alone would convince him! Heard celtic said they won’t sell any player until after the champions league qualifiers which I think means he wouldn’t be eligible for any of the top 4

In other possibly related news, the new lad in the Mail room looks suspiciously like John Carver….

Would much prefer Javier Hernandez. If Ashley was to show some ambition we could definitely afford him and I’m sure he’d love to be playing regular games again.

I didn’t realise Charlie Austin only had one year left on his contract, which does effect the judgement about value. But if he is the Striker that the club want then they should pay the fee and get him in.

that nufcdigest article – Schalke aren’t the Newcastle of the bundesliga…they’ve won 6 domestic trophies and the UEFA cup since we last won a trophy….
Borussia Moechengladbach are a club much more similar with Newcastle! Huge fanatic support, expect attacking football etc and starved of success the last 40 years!
I don’t think any media outlets have a clue who the club are going to buy! Theres nothing to go on as the club haven’t spoken to any other clubs yet. Newcastle get overused by agents trying to tout their clients to other clubs
