Newcastle have for a long time been at the top of the injury table in the Premier league for a number of years and we easily topped the league last season and amassed 347 points where one point is given when a player is injured and misses one game.
Next in line was Manchester United a full 97 points behind us.
Steve Black – coming to Newcastle
Here is the table for last season published by the Injury League site – and we’re right at the top – we won the league!
There’s news today that Steve McClaren could bring in former Valencia assistant manager Ian Cathro – who is only 28 years-old so the Scot would be an interesting signing for the club.
But the Chronicle is reporting today that Steve Black is on board and will be Newcastle new fitness coach.
Steve comes very well respected and the local Newcastle man should be able to cut down the number of injuries we have.
Steve McClaren has lots of common sense and at the Board meeting the four members went over the problems of last season (it must have been a long meeting) and one of them had to be our terrible injuries.
And this will be the solution to that and Steve will become a very important member of McClaren’s coaching team – and he is also a great motivator.
That’s something that our players needed in the second half of last season.
Preseason training starts up at the club a week tomorrow when the players drift back from their summer holidays so Steve hopefully will announce his full team this week sometime.
It will be really good to have Steve Black on board and two of his immediate challenges will be to keep both Siem de Jong and young Rolando Aarons fit.
Those top players hardly played last season because of various injuries.
Comments welcome.

Comment #8Experts at the centre for infectious diseases understand that NUFC have hired a shamen/witchdoctor who purports to be an expert on the Barrack Street Plague. Steve Black is said to be immune because, in his own words….”I’m a Geordie, me!”
We note it did not seem to help John Carver much at all.
Efforts to reach a club spokesperson to confirm the appointment were met with a black stare.

Comment #11Sick of all this ,is he isn’t he coming crap. It will happen when it happens if at all, the amount of players we are being linked with is ridiculous, and the amount of them that have gone to other clubs or said they don’t want to come is added proof to me that this clubs once great reputation has hit rock bottom under Mike Ashley. It will probably end up that we have to promote youth squad players to make it through the season

Comment #14Based on those odds Norwich are favourites for Van Dijk so we can forget all this speculation about him wanting Champions League. Begs the question why he would choose Norwich over us, surely we have the wages and he would be first choice and Norwich doesn’t have the London attraction
