Newcastle look to enter the race for Ukrainian International Yevhen Konoplyanka, who is a left-sided midfielder and now a free agent, but is asking for huge wages.
Stoke City have balked at those wage demands.
Konoplyanka used to play at Dnipro Dnipropetrovs and 18 months ago he almost moved to Liverpool for the £16M buyout clause in his contact but Dnipro President Ihor Kolomoyskyi refused to allow the 25 year-old to move to Merseyside.
Yevhen Konoplyanka – 25 year-old free agent
Konoplyanka has been at Dnipro all of his career and made his debut in the Ukrainian Premier League in August 2007, in a home game against Zakarpattia Uzhhorod, which ended 0–0.
At the time he was 17 years old and he has since played 210 times for the club with 45 goals and 37 assists, including playing 42 times last season with 8 goals and 7 assists.
Yevhen made his debut for Ukraine in May of 2010 and played the whole game in the 4–0 win over Lithuania in Kharkiv – and he had previously played for all the Ukrainian Youth sides.
Stoke have been trying to agree a deal with the 45 times capped winger (10 goals), but it seems they are unable to agree wages with the player.
Newcastle are reported as being one of the clubs who are keen to at least explore whether they can make a deal with the 5’10” tall winger.
The wage demands of the Ukrainian are said to be colossal so unless his wage demands come down then Newcastle will not be able to make a deal either – but he’s very keen to join the Premier league with some club.
His wage demands are said to exceed £100K/week – so he’s got to be kidding.
The player is due in England next week to talk to clubs who are interested – and that includes Newcastle – and needless to say this lad will go to the club who are willing to pay him the biggest wages.
So he’s after the money for sure.

Negatron
You seem to be saying you don’t know much and nobody can know much and therefore harsh criticism of Carr is unwarranted because he could largely be blameless if the true facts were known. I see you haven’t attempted to answer my questions. Perhaps, you don’t know how to. I also note you don’t know my stance on Ashley and have got it wrong.
To answer you, the buck stops with Ashley IMO. He knows nothing about football, put together a dog’s breakfast of a set up, and appointed the wrong men to fill the posts he created. He doesn’t care enough about the club to run it as the fans would rightly expect it to be run.
My arguments against the anti-Ashley brigade are simply that he’s not as bad as our previous owners. Even if the fans owned the club, they’d have to make profits and therefore run the club along similar lines. Ashley is portrayed as the devil and all his works as satanic. Misinformation is peddled in order to traduce him. When the truth is bad enough, there’s no need to make stuff up.
AO want rid but have no plan because they’ve got no one to take over. There’s no point in supporting just any old buyer, who could be 10 times worse. And relegation, which is what some so called fans wanted, (you?) wouldn’t have achieved anything other than to set the club back years.
Ashley has recognised he’s made errors and the new set up looks much better. But it still doesn’t look great and IMO incompetent personnel remain in charge. But give them a chance for gods’ sakes. It’s unrealistic to expect instant signings. They’ve wasted enough money in the past by overpaying for bum players. Let them take their time to negotiate and see what they come up with. I might be pleasantly surprised, but I doubt it. Perhaps that’s Scottoon’s point. Let see what happens under the new set up. If so, I agree with him.

Don’t know how true this was but I’m sure there was a rumour going round that when John Barnes played for Liverpool, his insurance policy was so good that he go more money per week if he was injured than what he did when he played.

No doubt there’s several players in our squad worth more knackered than they are fully that’s for sure…which is pretty much what OP was eluding to
one man with a gun with a contract on 5 knee caps could make us a fortune.
hang on a second…is that why we’ve got so many injured players at the minute????…is the fat b@st@rd milking our insurance plans 🙂

Comment #61Blackley – it is close to my point to be fair although my tolerance is waning quickly. I need some evidence that the new setup can bear fruit rather than just holding the promise of bearing fruit. In my view that means a real show of intent…..even if it means paying over the odds…..a loss leader if you will.
Unfortunately, my skepticism tends to get the best of me on this point.

Sorry I missed your question but you still didn’t answer mine why have you changed your mind on Ashley?
You denied the club had made profit in last 4 years until recently , then you denied saying that. You’ve happily made out that all mistakes where others fault and not Ashley’s until recently.
It’s your opinion that some of the things said about Ashley are untrue, you may argue others had no proof but neither do you.
So by your answers I can only come to the conclusion you like to argue.
You may enjoy living in the past and pointing at previous owners to make the current one look better, that sort of thinking is pathetic at best.
The only flappy bird on this blog is you, who tries to pidgeon hole everyone into having some ilogical vendetta against Ashley, completley dismissing any points they have made.
I’m not really fussed about continuing this conversation because in your mind yours is the only opinion that holds water.

Comment #79Anyway, selling Cisse would be very naive, he was our top scorer last season with only 22 appearences with a lot of those being sub-appearences. It seems like he is still in his prime and now with his knee sorted out we could see his best season with us. Fingers crossed.
He just needs to cut out the suspensions from his game.
