After there was news that Sunderland and Newcastle were both interested in signing PSV Dutch International midfielder Georginio Wijnaldum in the last couple of days, and that Sunderland were the favorites – there is news today that Sunderland are not interested in the player.
So it’s a good example of how these stories develop out of nothing and need to be taken with a pinch of salt.
Georginio Wijnaldum – Sunderland not interested
Sunderland were even reported to have out an offer in of £11M only yesterday for the 19 times capped International.
The Shields Gazette is reporting today it’s their understanding there is no interest from Sunderland, but Newcastle are still interested and the Tyneside club of course have been interested in the player for at least four years.
There had been speculation that Wijnaldum would be joining his former boss at PSV – Dick Advocaat – who was manager at PSV from 2011-2012 in Wijnaldum’s first season at PSV after joining them from Feyenoord.
But there doesn’t seem to be any bid from Newcastle going in for the Dutch play-maker any time soon.
Newcastle are looking to bring in center-backs, strikers and a play-maker or two this summer, and as many as six new players could be coming in to strengthen the Newcastle squad – or so we are told.
In the four years Georginio’s been at PSV, he’s played in 152 games with 56 goals and 23 assists.
