Confusion Over Reported Interest In Dutch Playmaker

8:26 am, Wednesday, June 24th, 2015 by Dr. Ed Harrison · 14 Comments

After there was news that Sunderland and Newcastle were both interested in signing PSV Dutch International midfielder Georginio Wijnaldum in the last couple of days, and that Sunderland were the favorites – there is news today that Sunderland are not interested in the player.

So it’s a good example of how these stories develop out of nothing and need to be taken with a pinch of salt.

Georginio Wijnaldum

Georginio Wijnaldum – Sunderland not interested

Sunderland were even reported to have out an offer in of £11M only yesterday for the 19 times capped International.

The Shields Gazette is reporting today it’s their understanding there is no interest from Sunderland, but Newcastle are still interested and the Tyneside club of course have been interested in the player for at least four years.

There had been speculation that Wijnaldum would be joining his former boss at PSV – Dick Advocaat – who was manager at PSV from 2011-2012 in Wijnaldum’s first season at PSV after joining them from Feyenoord.

But there doesn’t seem to be any bid from Newcastle going in for the Dutch play-maker any time soon.

Newcastle are looking to bring in center-backs, strikers and a play-maker or two this summer, and as many as six new players could be coming in to strengthen the Newcastle squad – or so we are told.

In the four years Georginio’s been at PSV, he’s played in 152 games with 56 goals and 23 assists.

Comments welcome.

Lack of communication and a good, engaging relationship with Supporters leads to confusion, fabrication and anger.

If these stories develop out of nothing and need to be taken with a pinch of salt then what does it say about this blog which continues to repost said stories?

The flappy birds are getting tetchier with every passing minute without a signing. In Carr you trust.

Wijnaldum has already stated he wants to play Champions League football, so I’m reading. Good player though.
Reality is though, it’s about wages for most ‘good’ players.

If you check this out now,you will be struck by how little actual real transfer news there is thus far.
This is not because the board is incompetent or Ashley hates Geordies or the Greek economy is a joke .
All the young decent players in Europe are busy in the Czech Republic until 30 June and the rest are on holiday.

Ha ha, Wild Bill Blacklock has gone from his staunch defence of good ‘ol Mikey to a frontal attack on the elderly scout. What is this man on.

@1 Optimistic. Good link and read, thanks!
Regarding Charlie Austin, he’s a family man and prefer to stay in London, so we read. Yes, offering him the ‘No 9’ shirt may help, but he’s 25… so his next contract is likely to be the most important of his career (and lucrative). It’s going to be wages that’s his main concern.
Loic Remy didn’t go to Chelski to play football every week did he?… it’s all about the money!

I wish flappy gums would give it a rest. Absolutely tedious and boring. Give it a rest and the rest of us a break.

We r looking to buy players but I dont see bids for players out. Coz we have over 25 over aged playerz. ( above 21). We want to sign 6 so we have to ship out abt 10 playerz.
