La Provence today had a report out that Marseilles may be keen on going on getting Remy Cabella in on loan next season, and near the end of the report they said that Cabella wanted to leave Newcastle United.
Remy Cabella – no desire to leave Newcastle
This is the bit about Cabella wanting to leave Newcastle – translated from the French:
“Remy Cabella (31 games, 21 starts for 1 goal) wishes to leave the north-east of England. The champion of France, crowned in 2012, has informed his representatives at the end of last year that Spain is his preference, including Sevilla.”
And we noted immediately after that – “But we’d be very surprised if that is accurate.”
Well it looks like it isn’t.
His father Hector quickly contacted L’Equipe quickly today and said this:
“My son is fine in Newcastle,” “He will resume with his club on July 1st.” “He has the ambition to make a great season for Euro 2016.”
“We have no discussions with OM (Marseilles) or anyone . He signed six years, not to leave after one season.“
The report in La Provence had suggested that not only could Cabella go on loan next season to Marseilles, but maybe he could be used in a part exchange for Florian Thauvin, who Newcastle are trying to sign.
Right at the end of the article – almost as an after-thought they said Cabella wished to leave Newcastle.
Remy Cabella is one of those players who could become a success under Steve McClaren and the new coaching staff next season, so it would make no sense to let Remy go – and he’s always seemed to love it on Tyneside – even after the terrible season the club has just had.
