The Mirror are reporting that Turkish club Besiktas are now supposed to be favorites to sign the Newcastle striker, and they are reporting an approach has been made for the Senegal International.
But the Tyneside club would be taking a chance if they let Papiss go before bringing in at least one suitable replacement.
Cisse is supposed to be the replacement for Demba Ba at Besiktas – who it seems will not be joining West Brom as there is news he will join Super League club Shanghai Shenhua in China – according to their web-site.
Papiss Cisse – 11 goals in 22 appearances last season
Papiss Cisse cost us around £9M when he signed in January of 2012 from Bundesliga club SC Freiburg, and in the 109 games he’s played at Newcastle since then he’s scored 41 goals, including 11 Premier League goals last season in only 22 appearances.
Only a day or so ago Newcastle said they had received no offers for the 30 year-old, and Newcastle want £10M for him.
That’s a decent price to ask, so clubs will think twice about coming in and bidding that kind of money for a player, who can still do a job for us at Newcastle.
We hope Papiss stays at the club – at least for next season – since he’s one of the proven Premier League goalscorers we have and he has two years left on his contract.
Papiss has also made it very clear that he wants to stay on Tyneside and play for new head coach Steve McClaren.
Newcastle would be foolish to let him go before we have a suitable replacement brought in – but the club have made that mistake before.
What do you think?

Comment #93Credit England’s back 4. Canada had a lot of chances but it was like hitting a brick wall inside the box. England also pounced on its chances (nice finish) . Feel terrible for Sinclair best player in the match by far but Tancredi and Co weren’t able to get the job done off the chances she created and that will be her last Word Cup appearance losing at home. Bronze was class for England and they will need her against Japan who are to women’s football what Brazil are to men’s the best passing most creative offensive team working the ball box to box and constantly drawing opposition out of position.
Best of luck England… as a Canadian I am disappointed but your back 4 were solid and you deserved the win.

For the summer transfer window,I’d only offload fergs, obertan and Williamson.
We need a bigger squad……………
Here we go again with all that “bigger squad” bollocks. For the benefit of all the numerically challenged people on this blog (and that includes Ed!) we currently have TWENTY EIGHT over-age players (ie. those who were aged 21 or over on 1st January this year) and there will only be room for 25 of them to be named in the PL squad next season. If they only offloaded Fergie, Obertan and Willo they’d still have a full quota of 25 players, as follows:
1 Abeid
2 Ameobi
3 Anita
4 Bigirimana
5 Cabella
6 Cisse
7 Colback
8 Coloccini
9 Darlow
10 De Jong
11 Dummett
12 Elliot
13 Good
14 Gouffran
15 Haidara
16 Janmaat
17 Krul
18 Lascelles
19 Marveaux
20 Perez
21 Riviere
22 Sissoko
23 Taylor S
24 Tiote
25 Vuckic
It’s stupid for people to keep on saying that we need a BIGGER squad, because we can’t make it any bigger (unless we bring in a load more players who qualify as under 21). The only thing that can be done is to improve the quality by replacing the poorer players with better ones. But whatever happens in this transfer window there’s one thing that’s an absolute certainty – you’re going to see more players going out (either permanently or out on loan) than you’ll see coming in, so you’d better start getting used to the idea.

Comment #95Chris why so angry man? I think most have figured out we need a certain ceiling of players, yes. I myself am never sure about these homegrown, under 21, shorter than 6″, etc. rules.
The point is, we need more top players, I don’t think it’s really a pure numerical thing. You do the maths mate 🙂

Comment #96Quite shocked at Cissse’s 41 from 109 , that is crap from an out and out striker.
Demba Ba’s 29 from 54 is much better , and really the least that should be expected.
Remember all the times we would have quite nice build up play with slick interpassing only for Cisse to be unneccesarily and carelessly
offside ?

Comment #97The only striker we should be letting go of is riviere. We should keep cisse. Madness not to. Ashley proving he’s still all about the money. We need 4 strikers. Perez being 1. We need austin and another quality striker as well. But as per usual we will go with a thread bare squad. ABSOLUTELY NOTHING HAS CHANGED!!

Got to get at least 9 or10 of that squad – far to lightweight and injury prone.
Starting with:
4 Bigirimana
8 Coloccini
12 Elliot
14 Gouffran
19 Marveaux
23 Taylor S
25 Vuckic
Obertan
Williamson
The problem is it wouldn’t bring any money into Ashley’s coffers.
Anyway anyone think McLaren could walk from the job after the first month citing lack of transfer money and deals that he was promised??

Considering Pardew shunted Cisse out to the right wing to accommodate a pouting Ba for a season, I would say 41/109 is a pretty damn decent return.
You might also consider that Ba was our regular penalty taker at the time whilst Cisse has only contributed 2 amongst his tally from the spot.

Comment #101Charlie..it wouldn’t really be a surprise if the Wally headed for the exit before the season started..
In fact nothing surprises me anymore with NUFC..
In fact the only guarantee is that we are shite to watch and will never win a major trophy again as long as Ashley is in charge..
If the Wally was to go, we would be an Unsalvageable wreck this season.

Comment #102The problem with Cisse is that he adds nothing to our game! If one look ay the problems we have had over the course of three seasons we need a forward who contributes to our game and even makes it better (Ba did that).
…Cisse goes missing for half a season and when we are down and out he just makes matters worse. Do people remember the season before last?

Your remarks are extraordinary considering McClaren doesn’t even meet the players officially until Wednesday.
I do wish people would stop calling him Wally.
Even the Daily Mail journo who coined it was embarrassed by it , regretted it and apologised to SM for it.

Comment #106We wont be selling Rivi because we’d lose money on him which is never part of the plan…we’ll be selling the players we got for free or next to nowt for summat, and keeping the ones that cost us money unless sold at a profit otherwise the press and the fans will be throwing his nett spend back in his face after his rousing churchillian speech before the west ham game.
This is all just a game to Ashley and all chump change in the scheme of things…he may well make 50 million a year out of NUFC but he makes more than that in a month in other parts of his business interests and the over-riding factor will always be his free advertising and keeping the SD brand on tv’s all over the world…that’s all that matters to Ashley…and we were on the tele more times advertising his brand due to fact we were looking favourites to go down so somehow the spawn b@st@rd always comes up smelling up roses.
No matter what he says or does, his brand is advertised globally and he makes millions purely because of SKY’s new deal…it’s almost impossible to lose money owning a premiership club nowadays no matter how poorly you run a club…and NUFC are the perfect example of how not to run a club and still make sh!t-loads of money.
You are spawny tw@t Ashley and you fcuking know it

It’s been on my mind the last few days about the possibility of SM walking out. I do think there ‘s a chance of it happening ,unlikely but still a chance. If he did walk what would happen if GC also walked, both stating lack of action recruiting coaches / players as the reason ? Where would that leave Ashley & what would he do about it? Just a thought.

Comment #110Wally has already been Ashleyed in less than a month of joining us but Ashley has to be careful here because he has nowt on Wally like he had over Pardew and IMO Wally could walk at any minute.
Ashley knows how to play him though…he’ll give him a purple and says there’s plenty more of where that came from and then he’ll get nowt more til next summer.

I didn’t say he would walk, I said there’s a chance of it happening. The reason is obvious IF he can’t bring in his chosen coaches & the lack of any transfer activity. As of yet no confirmation of any appointments to the coaching staff & the players report back on Wednesday, not a lot of time I would have thought.

Now I know there is no way we would ever buy him.
He does want to leave Atletico and Barcelona and Chelsea fancy him.
He would be in the region of £30 million.
It’s just to say we offered £9 million for him when he was at Galatasaray (which was a lot at that stage in his career) .
It just goes to show someone at SJP really can spot talent.

Comment #114It may well be that Supermac , after many sessions with the current squad , and a positive pre-season , tells the club that there is not the crisis that everyone thought.
Waiting to see what the situation is by Xmas may be the way forward.
Rather than just splashing the cash for the sake of appeasing some loud mouthed fans who you could never please no matter what was done .

Comment #115Cisse would be awesome if the offside rule was abolished
All joking aside, after the shambolic season we’ve just had only NUFC would be stupid enough to dare sell Cisse without replacing him BEFOREHAND.
Another cheapskate risk, another insult to the loyal fans and swift boot in the balls to welcome our new coach.
Pathetic
