Newcastle Linked With Experienced English Winger

Newcastle United are said to be interested in signing 27 year-old Swansea City winger Nathan Dyer, who has been at the south Wales club since he signed on from Southampton six years ago, and the right winger still has two years left on his contract at the Swans.

Nathan Dyer – Newcastle interested

Swansea City have signed former Newcastle target Andre Ayew as a free agent from Marseilles this summer, and so Nathan may have trouble getting too many games next season.

Nathan was born in Trowbridge, Wiltshire and signed on at Southampton when he was just seven years old and he came through their famous Academy.

He had loan spells at Burnley, Sheffield United and Swansea before finally signing on at Swansea in 2009 for £400K.

But we wonder if we got Nathan in whether it would improve the Newcastle squad much – always assuming of course there may be some truth in the report.

Newcastle are reported to be interested in signing 20 year-old Argentine winger Lucas Ocampos and he would cost around £8.5M – so he would be a better signing than Dyer.

In fact we be surprised if Newcastle are interested in the 27 year-old Swansea player.

Nathan Dyer is also said to be interesting Sunderland and Norwich City, and hes played 269 games for Swansea with 30 goals and 29 assists.

That includes 37 appearances last season with 5 goals and 3 assists and he would probably cost around £3M to £4M.

What do you think?

Comments welcome.

This sounds like more desperate bollocks to me as we have no real transfer targets. Harrumph. Nathan bloody Dyer.

Would prefer Dyer over Townsend if we are really interested in the latter.

@YoungMagpie: Andros Townsend? I rate him a lot higher than Dyer, if I’m honest.

Now Downing, on the other hand…

I said this a few days ago. Nobody knows who we are going to sign.
Even the players did not know when we signed Cisse until he walked past the canteen at the training ground.
We just have to continue to patiently wait. Again….

Ashley ( rummaging in desk drawer for weapon): “BISHOOOOOOPPPPP!”

Tyrone Mings just isn’t worth it. 8mil plus add ons?

I can’t understand how Bournemouth are willing to spend what is most likely the bulk of their transfer budget on a left back.

I can see why people prefer Townsend over dyer. I.e, Townsend doing well for England and his age being better. Giving him better potential.

But Nathan Dyer is very effective, shown he can play well in the premier league and he also has goals. He is right footed on the right wing and has a decent cross on him, whereas Townsend most likely cuts in and attempts an audacious attempt at goal. Maybe that may go out of his game the more he matures?

We lack right wingers, cabella the only one versatile enough to play there, obertan can play there, but he is useless at getting around players, at least dyer can beat a man. Not to mention dyers pace also. Imagine a front three of this, pace wise.

    Dyer-Hernandez-Aarons

Won’t happen but it would terrorise defenses, dyer could even be a good supersub?

My point is dyer would be way more effective then obertan and would cost considerably less then Townsend yet being at a similar, possibly better level then Townsend.

It’s the NUFC paying the bill I don’t beleive, I’d have expected Ashley to make them pay themselves until they’re on the books.

I beleive you saying they were there etc.

Can’t blame Mac as he has his hands tied but I can’t help feel his strategy is all wrong. We know we can’t compete with the top 6 plus the likes of West Ham, Southampton, Swansea etc….

Therefore we should go after young hungry players with pace and enthusiasm, bit like SBR did…Mac came across half in the championship!

We are a selling club so why not bloody invest some money in some youngsters or proven prem players at smaller clubs and play them?! I would also be all over Serbia Under 20s and the Denmark and Swedish under 21 teams!

    Byram
    Garbutt
    Moore
    Dunk

    Mowatt
    Cook
    d Gray
    Redmond
    Gibson
    Phillips

    Hernandez

Not sure why people are against loans either, not like we have a track record of our own good youngsters.
