Newcastle Miss Out On Another Transfer Target

Newcastle have been linked with 25-year-old Yevhen Konoplyanka, who is a Ukrainian International winger who was at Dnipro Dnipropetrovsk for nine years, and he  became a free agent this month – but news today that he’s reached an agreement with Spanish club Sevilla.

Yevhen Konoplyanka – reached an agreement with Sevilla

There have been a number of English clubs linked with the free agent, including Liverpool and Newcastle, but one of the difficulties was said to be the huge wages he was requesting.

In January last year, he almost moved to Liverpool for £14M – but the deal fell through.

An agreement has apparently been reached between Sevilla and Dnipro for the 45 times capped Ukrainian International, who has still to undergo a medical before the contract is finally signed.

Newcastle are usually aggressive when it comes to signing free agents, simply because there is no transfer fee if the player is over 24 year old, but we seem to be dragging our feet this summer – for some strange reason.

A statement has been posted on Sevilla’s web-site:

“Sevilla have reached an agreement with the player, in the absence of a medical and closing a deal with Dnipro.”

The winger played well for Dnipro last season and they reached the final of the Europa League, where they were beaten 3-2 at the National Stadium in Warsaw by – you guessed it – Sevilla.

What’s that about if you can’t beat them – join them.

Sevilla are a very good side and with Barcelona winning the Champions League, the Spanish La Liga is the top ranked European League at the moment.

I cannot help wondering why WHU would want to pay 15m quid on Austin when they already have Carroll Sakho and Valencia who can play the spearhead position. I would think they would have more urgent positions in the centre of their defence to address first.

Its articles like this which create more of the drama among fans. This guy was on 100k last season and is a free transfer so will be getting close to that again if not more.

He was never going to be a real target, just another name of the many the press have blindly put forward recently. By the same rationale by the end of the window we will have missed out on around 80 targets..

Austin, Thauvin, Matip, maybe Wijnaldum, seem like the genuine targets.

On Austin, i think soon another club will pay the 15m and force our hand, maybe Leicester, West Ham or west brom maybe. Then the club will have to make a call on it.

Really though, what is 3m nowadays, just pay it guys and talk to him first. Enough is enough.

Yeah fair point, really think they would be happy to get rid of AC though if someone stupid enough would pay the price and wages.

This guy was never a target I just cant see us breaking our 100k a week wage structure for anyone

On Austin how do we know the club is really in for him ? Its just paper talk would not surprise me if he has never been under consideration and we are looking at a striker from Holland or France instead

It is probably to late, as Austin should have been tied up in the first week, but get a £15M bid in now!!!

We conceed far too many goals and don’t score enough. The priority is a goal scorer who can also preferably hold the ball up and a dominant quick CB.
I think it would be a mistake to write off some of last summer signings too quickly. It’s pointless unless you get an attractive offer for them. Take Giroud at Arsenal his signing took a season to pay off.

SM Caen confirm they will reach an agreement with Leicester City to sell them Ngolo Kanté in the coming hours. Player yet to agree terms.

Another linked player we can scrub off the list.
I cannot believe Mashley would have done his first live interview on tv. Promised the toon faithful things were gonna change and yet here we are still in familiar territory of having no players brought in
Surely he must see the repercussions are going to be more severe regarding fan protest if he fails to deliver this time .

    Why not mate ??
They have just had a bid of 12 mill turned down by Qpr. That could have easily been accepted.
Same goes for a lot of teams now that have gone for the more European method of the manager just coaches and has no say on recruitment .
Personally think it is wrong as the manager should have some input on who he has to work with, but that’s the nature of the beast nowadays

Honestly had no idea, mate. Not something i pay much attention to.

Like i say, was just wondering.

So basically, the club sent out an e-mail in his name, and didn’t even tell him? What a bunch of tw@s.

Konoplyanka wage demands were reported at £100k per week net of tax. Do you honestly think even Arsenalwould pay that. So a non story that predicates we were in for him in the first place.

Cabaye with his vast range of passing would give us a real purpose in midfield. Enabling us to have more possession and control. When we have elected to go for possession in our play it has been at the expense of a lack of pace with no adventure and invention. Last season we produced sterile football. Cabaye could change all that and bring our creative players into the play quickly and with invention and intent to get behind opposing defences . Which is why West Ham are desperate to buy him.
Who knows what SM’s football philosophy is maybe it’s to be progressive. Cabaye, Austin and a CB could revolutionise the club and it wouldn’t cost an arm and a leg.!

carl… I agree we lack any passers in this team and Cabeye or someone with that range of passing is needed. We play horrendously because we don’t have anyone.

Yevhen Konoplyanka is a wide player with range and would have been ideal with Cabeye. A fast winger like Salah on the other side and BOOm, we have a very capable team again.

I sick of these prance players like Cabella and Thauvin… get some grit and some one with an actually foot on them… SM has them practicing with the ball which is a start now lets get some passers, please
