Reports – Multiple Signings To Be Made By Newcastle

1:57 pm, Sunday, July 5th, 2015 by Dr. Ed Harrison · 66 Comments

Since Newcastle have had no success so far this season,  it would be good if we can do a double signing next week,  before we play our first pre-season game at Gateshead on Friday night.

And we reported earlier today we have  bid 15M for Charlie Austin, and with Sunderland having dropped out of the race for Georginio Wijnaldum Newcastle are in pole position to sign him.

paul dummett charlie austin

Charlie Austin – can we rally get this striker in?

We are also supposed to have had a bid lodged for long term target Florian Thauvin, plus his team-mate at Marseilles – 22 year-old French U21 midfielder Mario Lemina.

We hope those reports are true, but of course it is Sunday, when we tend to get a lot more stories on transfers about to be completed – to help sell the Sunday papers.

But Sky Sports reporter Pete Graves is tweeting that it’s his understanding that Newcastle have made some very good progress in the last few days, and could announce more than one signing next week.

Here’s Pete’s Twitter account and most of his tweets are associated with Newcastle so you can read them there, and even Luke Edwards of the Telegraph is getting involved in the tweets.

Here are just three of Pete’s tweets – although he is getting challenged by fans that he’s just making these up.

It would be a huge plus for Newcastle and the fans if the club can indeed get two or more top targets into the club next week.

It can happen – keep the faith – even through it’s difficult.

Comments welcome.

They are really trying to get one over the line by tomorrow, not that they really give a sh#te about the Fans Forum. But at least it will get them off the hook in terms of press reports from the event.

    REPOST

If its true that we are in for Georginio Wijnaldum then Sissoko may be surplus to requirements.

In midfield I can see Colback, Wijnaldum, De Jong and Anita (or Tiote if not sold).

On the wings I can see Aarons, Perez, Cabella and Florian Thauvin.

  • 7 Polarboy // Jul 5, 2015 at 2:15 PM

If these stories are bullsh*t at least the caliber of the players involved has gone up. If, and of course it’s a big if, these reports aren’t false then we could have a very decent team this season.

  • 9 Tsunki // Jul 5, 2015 at 2:17 PM

Seems to be a lot of smoke now for there to be absolutely no fire. Unless of course the smoke clears and reveals mirrors of previous rubbish dealings, bluff and misinformation designed to keep ticket and merchandise revenue flowing.

Be good to see some signings, anything just to show we are at least trying up keep in pace. Having said that, I think getting all these mentioned here would be little more than the minimum level for a club that is serious about actually achieving something.

As it is, still waiting. Still waiting…

  • 20 lochinvar // Jul 5, 2015 at 2:44 PM

Liverpool and ” soon to be replaced” Rodgers are just a pain in the backside.
They are just trying to buy back success at any price and keep their fickle fans happy following Suarez and Gerrard’s departures and with ” can’t wait to join City” Sterling leaving as well they are now getting left behind as a top European club. Maybe when Anfield is rebuilt in three years time they might get a team to suit the new stadium.
If they keep sniffing the Laughing Gas they might not realise that we took £20m off them for Sissoko – only seems fair really .

There are only 2 x big time clubs now , City, and Chelsea both because of their owners splashing obscene amounts of cash . Manure and Arsenal are the next two on the list – but both are vunerable to inconsistency and lacking direction. After that Liverpool and Spurs think they are big time charlies but a few wrong signings and a few bad games and they are reduced to ordinary . No reason to think that if we kept Sissoko and added the calibre of players that have been mentioned that we couldn’t give Spurs and the Scousers something to think about.

  • 21 expatmag // Jul 5, 2015 at 2:50 PM

Sissoko has stated he wants CL. Well he isnt going to get it next season at Liverpool, at least.

I also reckon they have been well and truly dudded by Wolfsburg for Firminio. 29 million pounds for him is a joke having watched him at the Copa.

  • 22 Whumpie // Jul 5, 2015 at 2:53 PM

Even if we get 2 in we are drastically short of quality and need at least 6 others – 2 more CBs for a start. We are a long, long way off yet.

I’m a long time follower of this blog, but very rarely comment. Lately my access to articles on this blog, via my phone, has been plagued by annoying pop ups for gambling sites. I’m not a gambling man and have never visited a gambling site in my life, so it can’t be a targeted pop up. I could understand if it was porn. Anyone else had this problem? And if so, how do you rectify it? Cheers.

  • 30 rwpoynter // Jul 5, 2015 at 3:29 PM

Forget Das Bost at whatever silly figure they want for him. If we bid and mean £15m for Charlie Austin and get him then it is possible the flood gates could open. Other players will then want to come in and some of those touted as wanting out will maybe change their minds. It’s a bit like the financial markets, it’s more about confidence than facts. Surely to God Mike Ashley must realise that a NUFC in regular Champions league is going to make him more money than just staying in the PL. For a very intelligent and successful businessman he sometimes makes me wonder as to his blank spots.

Simpson said: “It’s a great opportunity for us all to come to a football club like this.
“Steve’s tried to put a management team together that’s going to help as much as we possibly can; he’s brought Ian Cathro in, who’s a very bright up-and-coming coach with a fantastic energy to him and really good ideas, and myself to help with the organisational stuff, an extra pair of hands out on the training field.
“Alessandro’s come in on the fitness side to go alongside what’s already here and one thing that has really pleased us since we came into the building is that the other staff have been absolutely spot on so far. They’ve really taken us in, they all want to be involved and hopefully with us all together we can help bring some real good times back to the football club.”

    cookie,
Sorry pal but I don’t think it is worth getting excited over in any way shape or form the signing of a nineteen year old kid from Northampton, about as exciting as giving those four local lads new contracts the other week

  • 56 check the toastie // Jul 5, 2015 at 4:30 PM

Cabaye to Palace is utter Guff, its just not credible, poor club, player knows manager is a total long ball defensive setup clown. Utter Bullocks.

I have to say really pleased with the coaching staff, and the fresh start for the squad, think we will be entertained and impressed at times this season.
Cisse would score more goals than Austin for me this season if back to his enthusiastic best.

Cisse has been partially injured and totally nonplussed by the coaching over the past 18 month, he could be dynamite in my opinion and is a deadlier sharper striker than Austin.

Money should be spent on two centre backs and some top quality elsewhere, Cisse should be kept he could be pure gold in a team that keeps the ball and plays with purpose.

We have had a division2 coaching outfit stuck in the 1980s for five years, the players must have been totally demotivated. This has been proven on the pitch.

    Up The Tooonnn

Hope the rumours are true about Wijnaldum, and I think we should make it a double swoop and go for their left back Jetro Willems as well . Although I do still rate Haidara .

If its true we could line up something like :

    —————————Colback——————————
    ———-Sissoko————————Wijnaldum———-

    —————————-De Jong—————————–
    ———-Austin——————————Aarons———-

That would leave us with a very strong bench as well .

  • 62 check the toastie // Jul 5, 2015 at 4:50 PM

Jfa – because its basically the end of his career, plus with Parsnip in charge fighting relegation ain’t gunna see him in the Euros.

From starting a champions league quarter final against Barcelona to crystal palace, really really, believable, not for me, maybe Spurs but doesn’t press ball enough for poccettino not enough pace and energy.

He peaked at the tooon. 🙂

  • 63 Reyantoon // Jul 5, 2015 at 4:50 PM

OP- i didn’t overrated colback or sissoko.
Obviously they both are not world beaters.
However, based on the squad we have last season, they both are exceptional performers and contributed more than the rest of the squad.
I’m basing my point on comparing thier performance from our squad but you are comparing them to other top mf players inside top four team.Just because they made one or two errors in a game or two, does not mean they are worthless.Colback is a good squad player.Didn’t expected him to play every game last season. But emerged as benching Anita.
    What does that tells you?

  • 64 optimistic prime // Jul 5, 2015 at 5:15 PM

    Reyna

Where do you get I was compairing them to top 4 players.

I said Colbacks tackling led to 14 yellow cards in the EPL and asked how many goals we conceded due to his seemingly limitless gifting of stupid free kicks. I also asked how many bans he’d managed to get himself.

When we were 1st linked to him I couldn’t understand why, and after watching him all season I still don’t know why se signed him.

He’s a typical Pardew player, all graft no guile. He’s average at best, he doesn’t have enough in his game to be any better than a squad player.

What does Anita being on the bench and Colback in first 11 tell me, that Pardew and Carver don’t have a clue. If Tiote was fit they’d have still shoe horned Colback in somewhere.

I’d take the player coached the Ajax way over the Mackem way any day of the week and twice on a Sunday, there’s no completion.

Did you notice how strong our midfield was last year? Me neither.
