With speculation surrounding Moussa Sissoko being targeted by Liverpool this summer, and Cheick Tiote possibly also leaving the club, there is a concern that Newcastle may be letting some of their best players leave, while at the same time we seem to be struggling big time to bring in our top transfer targets.
Lee Charnley and Mike Ashley – at West Ham game
There’s some good news today that Newcastle sources are reacting specifically to the news that Liverpool are after Moussa Sissoko, by telling the local press that no senior players will be leaving St James’s this summer until the new signings are in place – and they may not even leave then.
Newcastle are going after various targets – including PSV midfielder Georginio Wijnaldum, QPR striker Charlie Austin, Wolfsburg’s Bas Dost Anderlecht striker Aleksandar Mitrovic and others – but the club are still to make their first signing of the summer.
The players who have been on International duty will return to training today, and they include Daryl Janmaat and Tim Krul, so McClaren and the new coaching team will have all the players back this week for training.
It’s important that Newcastle bring in new faces for a number of reasons – one is if we make some top signings it will be easier to get some of our other targets through the door.
And it will also help persuade some of our best players already at the club, that they should stay at Newcastle where we are going to build a top team so we can potentially win something and also finish in the top eight of the Premier League.
After all, owner Mike Ashley said before the final game of the season that he now wants to win something, and he will invest heavily in the squad this summer.
In the past, Newcastle have gone after cheaper players in Europe, but that has changed somewhat, and we are now after a number of English players – and there is more competition for them – and they are also more expensive.
And Newcastle always seem to find it hard to spend big money in the transfer market.
We’re sure Steve McClaren is just a little concerned it’s over six weeks now since the last game of the season, and we haven’t manged to sign anybody, but of course he’s not going to say too much – not yet anyway.
We just have to hope that Lee Charnley and others start to get the job done this summer before much more time goes by.
The squad leaves for America this coming weekend, and we need one or two new players signed by then.
Comments welcome.

Thing is, Ed DOES just regurgitate ‘news’ and ‘information’ from all over the place, I don’t think he believes much of it either. It just promotes conversation is all. I wouldn’t risk a thrombo over it.

Different reports suggest his contract runs out in the summer, it doesn’t say which summer. Apparentley we have a option for a further year and a compo agreement in his contract.
Probs all speculation

with a bit of luck McLaren will use him in preseason and sit him down and talk to him and then if he isn’t ready for us send him out onloan

Comment #49I think the club is getting ready to announce some signings. Been quiet for too long. I’ve heard that we’re ready to let Oliver Kemen go apparently. Liverpool and Spurs are interested.

I think we have been in negotiation with Wijnaldum’s people , but he had a deal fall through last season and he is worried about annoying the Eindhoven fans if this deal collapses again .Of course if he comes to the Toon , then the dutch fans can take a running jump , such is the modern world of footy.

Comment #53@bladeuser if you don’t like the blog why do you come on here? Nothing better to do? There are hundreds of thousands of footballing sites and blogs and yet you chose to come on one and piss and moan about the standard of the articles. Ed lives in American, should he be sourcing his own stories or merely offering comment and a forum for us to engage on? Just think it’s kind of sad that you feel the need to come on here and complain about something rather than just go elsewhere.

Comment #54So the secrecy is as much on the side of wijnaldum and his agent as our lot you say? I can understand it puts him in the very bad light of being a perennial want away if it falls through this time. That’s IF there’s any negotiations, if course.

Comment #57Considering our past record with youth I can hardly blame Keemen for looking elsewhere. At the same time he maybe better off having another year here to see what happens. IMO he’ll have more of a chance breaking into our first team than Spuds or the bin dippers.

Please leave it there. One or two of you might recall a recent charity event I organised and where my info comes from.
Anyway …Nowt has been spilled within the club. Even they are concerned!
I know it’s very secretive how the club does business. Maybe something is happening.
I hope something is happening.

Agreed. There is almost no point in us signing youth talent. They rarely get a shot, and if they do they are often sold or released very quickly.

Comment #70Lee is giving away our secrets from the Book of Low Bids again. Saying we won’t pay 12M for Austin because of his poor injury record. That’s directly from page 3 and I quote “always put a flimsy excuse in with the low bid, it paves the way for a second and third low bid.” Beautiful Lee.

Comment #80Well, I think I am right Bambams mate. It says right on page 2 “keep putting in those sneaky low bids. Dozens if you have to. Eventually another club will make a mistake and sell someone to us. Lay low in France for a bit though. They are still upset about Cabaye.”
