Wijnaldum Speaks About Newcastle Transfer

6:05 pm, Monday, July 6th, 2015 by Dr. Ed Harrison · 135 Comments

The way transfers work is that the two clubs first agree a fee,  and when that fee is agreed the buying club can talk to the player and his representatives and they an discuss terms.

Once those are agreed to then the medical takes place – and if the player passes the medical he then signs the contract.

That’s that way it’s supposed to work,  but in these days of mass communications via  social media,  it doesn’t always happen that way but news today that Georginio Wijnaldum and his representatives want to play it exactly that way.

Georginio Wijnaldum in white +FC+Twente+v+PSV+Eindhoven+qM_lhCm4cqml

Georginio Wijnaldum – Newcastle have to agree fee with PSV first

Georginio has just returned to training today at PSV, and it looks like he’s been updated fully on the situation with Newcastle, and this is what he has said about it:

“The clubs must first reach an agreement.¨ “I hear a lot of rumors but as long as nothing has become finalized, I focus on my job at PSV.”

“My agent will inform me when something is about to materialize and only then will I start to consider the offer and take a decision – but not now.”

So we still have to get past the first hurdle – to agree a fee with PSV.

There was news earlier today that Newcastle are willing to pay him as much as £60K/week to get him to Newcastle, and he could even become the top wage-earner at the club,

That’s good news because at least Newcastle would be seen to be willing to spend some money to get a top player to Tyneside.

It’s just taking a long time – which is par for the course for Newcastle these days.

As we kept saying last summer, Newcastle make it look so damned difficult to sign players in any transfer window – which is not unlike some other Premier League clubs – and they have less money than Newcastle.

We really have to become more aggressive and more decisive in order to get these top men to Newcastle.

Three notes  (make that hints if you like) to Lee Charnley:

  1. He who hesitates is lost
  2. Faint heart never won fair maiden (make that top player)
  3. Fortune favors the brave

Go for it Lee – please!!

Comments welcome.

Oliver Kemen should only be going on way – into the first team squad, Cup matches and some League games.
Emerging players get game time with other clubs so McLaren needs to flex his muscles on this one.

    Wijnaldum – anyone got a pen – that’s what’s needed to sign a contract.
Austin – some Deep Heat for his shoulder should get the deal done.

What a silly thing to say
Pirlo is 36 and off to the Elephants graveyard
He would last about 10 minutes in the EPL

  • 7 BlacknWhiteBarmy // Jul 6, 2015 at 6:17 PM

When we are quibbling over a £600,000 fee for Ivan Toney is it any wonder 1) We cant attract top players and 2) Any player wants to leave due to lack of ambition.

  • 8 scottoon // Jul 6, 2015 at 6:18 PM

Not saying we would want him, or any of the other cronies heading to the MLS. Just pointing out that the MLS is becoming more attractive for certain players. Look at Giovinco who joined Toronto from Juventus.

Even if we do sign the lad, he’ll be off as soon as he looks half decent. We are a pointless entity atm

Its all about the money. Usa is a final pay-day. Much like the far and middle east.

Exciting news! Important club statement from Lee Charnley:
“I just want to make it clear to all the concerned supporters out there. The club will continue to put in the lowest bids possible for players. We will NOT, repeat, NOT be panicked into actually buying players!!!” Harrumph

  • 12 GeordieTwo // Jul 6, 2015 at 6:24 PM

Ta Lee. Someone taking firm control of things at last. Now we can settle down and sell players. Very good. Harrumph.

  • 13 Polarboy // Jul 6, 2015 at 6:25 PM

To give us unwarranted benefit of the doubt, and playing devil’s advocate, perhaps nearly getting relegated hasn’t helped in convincing players to join. Of course it’s the clubs fault entirely that we nearly got relegated, but if indeed we are after the caliber of players that have been linked, then it’s perhaps understandable that it is taking a while.

I see Josh Macechechechecheran is going to leave chelsea and sign for brentford in the champs. This seems to happen to a lot of international u21s. They lose their form because they play for teams they have very little hope of breaking into in any meaningful way.

Is this Andy Carroll holding up next seasons shirt ?

  • 18 GeordieTwo // Jul 6, 2015 at 6:35 PM

It is quite understandable that we are experiencing difficulty signing good players. As it stands it may take another 4 or 5 years to get one or two decent lads in. Or possibly the day after Mike sells the club. Whichever comes first. Harrumph.

  • 19 jesperfuglsang - capt'n awesome of the lemon crew // Jul 6, 2015 at 6:36 PM

Harrumph.

I’m happy enough with that, but haven’t we been here before at least 20 times over the last few years? Dig deep and We’ll get all wa season tickets sold! The worm has turned. Stand up and be counted. Speculate to accumulate. I’m still on the fence, but on the side where you fall off lads and lasses, but th. Toon never ceases to amuse you does it? Right here goes, I’d be on all night if I replied to everyone and a lot of people are asking the same things anyway so I’ll try and condense

As I said earlier the club won’t comment on transfer speculation or give details of how close they are to signing player x y or z.

I do like McLaren. I like how he engages with people, I like his attitude and his honesty and his positivity. Him being there was a big plus

McLaren impressed me by asking US questions, made me feel like he is actually interested in fans. Nobody at the club has done that before.

However, I do feel that it was very clever by the club to have him there as it kept the focus very much on the now and the future.

  • 70 overtheline // Jul 6, 2015 at 9:51 PM

For those asking – Charlie Austin still a top priority for #NUFC but club frustrated at lack of enthusiasm from player at their approaches

Complications appear to be a combination of player preferring to stay in London combined with #QPR wanting £15m.

    Mr Tuff

I’m surprised you’re surprised that Charnley had McClaren by his side at the FF. In fact I’m surprised Charnley rocked up at all!

McClaren being there was a good move whether to take the heat off Charnley or meet and listen to fans. By all accounts he’s gone down well too.

One thing’s for sure, McClaren’s like a breath of fresh air after the self-titled best coach etc.

However, it’s still early days on the transfer front – it seems that we’re up against Crystal Palace to be the last Prem club to buy a player.

If we achieve that, Charnley’ll have got us off to a great start – we’ll have won something for Ashley. Will he bugger off now? Nah, he’ll be waiting ’til we win the ECL at least!!

  • 114 Magpie Season // Jul 7, 2015 at 3:30 AM

I really think someone is blocking the moves for our targets within the club.

When we pursued Douglas for months & came to the final stages of a deal when he became a free agent, Kinnear then had blocked the transfer because he never heard of the player.

I have a feeling that Carr & McClaren are lining up the targets & we are submitting bids for the players, yes, only to have Charnley block any subsequent bid & reject any counter-offers as it does not meet his ówn evaluation’ of the player.

  • 115 Magpie Season // Jul 7, 2015 at 3:32 AM

Isn’t he still on honeymoon mate or is he back yet?

  • 116 gonufc (Newcastle United Sports Direct Advertising Club) // Jul 7, 2015 at 3:39 AM

I Must admit, I Just laughed a the article earlier that was something like “Good news about Newcastle’s best players- no one’s trying to buy them!”- Of course they’re not, they were bloody awful!

Also, so we’ve nearly got Wijnaldum… We just need to agree a fee with the player himself, the club and order flight tickets for him to get here- but apart from that, he’s practically ours!!

  • 117 expatmag // Jul 7, 2015 at 3:41 AM

It is a well known fact, supported by numerous examples over previous seasons that the club deliberately underbid on quality players before finally admitting that the we didnt rate the player at the price the selling club wanted.

It is a deliberate scam by Ashley to makes the fans think they are working behind the scenes whilst in fact, it is just another ruse to target cheaper and more ineffective options.

The twat has been doing it for years and if you think he is going to change his policy now, you need to think again. There will be NO Austin, Wijnaldum, Mitrovic or Abdennour.

  • 118 expatmag // Jul 7, 2015 at 3:43 AM

No. He isnt. If he was wise, he wouldnt touch us with a bargepole.

  • 119 nut meg // Jul 7, 2015 at 3:45 AM

Your having a rough time of it bonnie lad.I hope it all went well & that you have a speedie recovery, get well soon.

  • 120 Reyantoon // Jul 7, 2015 at 3:59 AM

If Zenite are in for wijnaldum,we have no chance they are one of richest club in Russia. They have no problem paying whatever price they asked.
The player stated he is willing to play in any league as long as psv receive the right amount for him.So looks like we have slim chance if that is the case.
In the meantime, just noticed Austin had failed a medical back in 2013,so why are we keen on him?He can clear off to other club.We should target some one else.My hope and like to come to us faded away.

  • 121 expatmag // Jul 7, 2015 at 4:05 AM

He wants to go to a better league than Russia.

  • 122 Reyantoon // Jul 7, 2015 at 4:24 AM

    expat…u think so?
He said “first of all,psv and the buying club must agree”.He may wish to play in a better league but if it’s true that zenite are interested, they will offer him bigger wages and plus.So..

  • 123 Reyantoon // Jul 7, 2015 at 4:50 AM

Just hope we sign atleast a midfielder or a striker before heading to the states. But looks like none will happen anytime soon.we are looking for value for money.selling clubs holding for bigger fees or better.Seems we gonna have another long and frustrating summer.Better to hold my breath and better off from transfer news, until i see the new player holds our shirt and photographs officially!!

  • 124 expatmag // Jul 7, 2015 at 5:18 AM

He has already stated he wants to play in either England Spain Germany or Italy.

For a player of his ability, he wants to play at the highest level like his former team mate, Depay, who has just signed for Man Utd.

One thing is for sure. If he signs for us, which U seriously doubt, it will be for a season or two maximum to use us as a stepping stone.

    geordie157 // Jul 6, 2015 at 10:29 PM

So Krul’s not back in training yet……….

No, and from what I can see the only other senior player not back in training is Sammy Ameobi, and he’s off to join Cardiff, apparently. Which makes me wonder why Timmy isn’t there.

I did notice that young Paul Woolston was pictured training with the first team squad yesterday
so maybe he’s now 4th choice keeper behind Darlow, Elliot & Woodman, with Timmy heading off to pastures new.

  • 126 Santon03 // Jul 7, 2015 at 6:21 AM

    our current squad:
    Krul, Darlow, Elliot
Janmaat, Dummet, Willo, Colo, Lascelles, Haidara, Saylor, Good
Colback, Anita, abeid, Sissoko, SDJ, Cabella, Obertan, Gouffran, Aarons, Tiote, Marv
    Cisse, Manu, Arma, Perez

    that’s 3gk, 3fb, 5cb, 6cm, 5wg, 4fw = 26 players

did I forgot someone? So definitely need to sell someone, we have 5cb if Good is included.

  • 127 check the toastie // Jul 7, 2015 at 6:32 AM

Just Waiting for the headline, nufc struggle to agree terms with Dutch Ace.
Wouldn’t be getting too excited yet…

  • 128 Reyantoon // Jul 7, 2015 at 6:45 AM

Hope u are right expat, and He has a desire to play in top leagues. However,we had some disagreements with psv in the past, regarding fees, more than once(erik pieters, jeroen zoet,gk..)
couldn’t remember the time we ever aquired a player fron psv.Now psv may be tired of negotiating with us,they will say like :
“oh no,it’s Newcastle again .forget them.Better to examine the next offer…”
For me,the time has come to sign atleast one bigger fee signing,if they truly are looking for the ” best”..

  • 129 expatmag // Jul 7, 2015 at 7:02 AM

    PSV will ask 15 m
    Ashley will offer 8m
PSV will laugh in his face
Ashley will offer 9.5m take it or leave it
Liverpool will get him for 12m

    Written in the stars

  • 130 expatmag // Jul 7, 2015 at 7:03 AM

We just couldnt get him over the line……

  • 131 will die for the toon army // Jul 7, 2015 at 7:23 AM

NUFC still not signing this is so disappointing and the funny thing is that our signings are very cheap and we can get them if we try.
    Matip, Wijna, Thauvin and Austin.

That’s like 55m tops or at least 45m with good negotiations.

  • 132 jazzyp // Jul 7, 2015 at 7:26 AM

All the best with your health mate, although im amazed your able to post with just having a heart op.
My uncle had one last year and was induced for 3 days.

Anyway back to the footie, personally think its boll@cks abt Austin wanting to stay in london when he had a medical at hull and played for Burnley

  • 133 JDdubai // Jul 7, 2015 at 7:37 AM

I think McClaren is a much better person than the ones above him – seems like he is a genuine fella, will be interesting to see how he copes with having to front the backlash for the next f%ck up from Charnely and toe the line.

Cant see him being able to pass off the lies as well as JC did as he doesnt have his own incompetence to hide behind and dont think he will be comfortable doing it.

  • 134 sing in the corner // Jul 7, 2015 at 7:39 AM

This is how I now see it: Patience is one thing…but if we fail to get Wij, Austin, a Centre half…the heat will be turned on at full power on Charnley and with full justification. Mistakes were (sort of) acknowledged at the end last season and very little has been done to rectify them apart from appointing coaching staff who are actually qualified for their jobs.
Charnley has given himself a problem, only about a couple of weeks or so to pull some rabbits out of an increasingly empty hat. Fans up and down the country will surely be able to see our predicament.

  • 135 sing in the corner // Jul 7, 2015 at 7:41 AM

I agree…and he was all set to go to Hull of all places wasn’t he? Before he failed his medical.
