Report: Thauvin Ready To Push For Move This Summer

7:29 pm, Tuesday, July 7th, 2015 by Dr. Ed Harrison · 170 Comments

There is a report in le10sport today that Newcastle target Marseilles winger Florian Thauvin may be getting itchy feet, and may want to leave the club this summer.

The report is that Florian is a little bit concerned about what’s happening at the French club – with a number of top players already leaving the club this summer,  with Marseilles needing to sell to get themselves out of their current financial difficulties.

florian thauvin

Florian Thauvin – concerned about Marseilles

Florian is said to be hesitant to stay with the club who have lost a number of their executives this summer,  and have already sold several of their best players – Andre-Pierre Gignac, Dimitri Payet, Andre Ayew and Giannelli Imbula.

There are also doubts as to whether Nicolas Nkoulou and Steve Mandanda will be staying at the club,  which is one reason Florian seems to be a little concerned.

Newcastle will be watching the situation carefully,  but le10sport also reported late last week that it’s their understanding Florian is not all that keen to join Newcastle.

Last May, Florian Thauvin had this to say about his position at Marseilles:

“Regarding my future, we do not know what can happen. We do not know the position of the club in late season.”

“I will see what will happen and if the club needs money and whether I must be sold – but my position is to succeed at OM . “

Newcastle are supposed to have bid €15M (£10.6M) for the midfielder, but it’s not clear if Marseilles have accepted that bid or turned it down.

Even if Marseilles accept the bid,  it could still be difficult for Newcastle to persuade the 22 year-old to join the club, if last week’s report is accurate.

The best chance Newcastle have is to move in (very) quickly and get him tied up before other bigger clubs come in after him.

But unfortunately you cannot accuse Newcastle of being anything but indecisive and slow in this summer’s transfer window.

But it still may be good news that Florian could now push for a move away from Marseilles this summer.

Over to you Lee Charnley – perhaps have four cups of  very strong black Italian coffee (I love the stuff) – and then get on the phone with Marseilles.

That could do it.

Comments welcome.

    The age will creep up on you YCMIU mate. First you forget where you put your fongbat. Then you start mispronouncing names…..Harrumph.

  • 4 Jib // Jul 7, 2015 at 7:33 PM

    Tomi Ameobi played for Whitley Bay here

  • 5 YouCouldn'tMakeItUp // Jul 7, 2015 at 7:36 PM

    Emperor Flavian will sign for is.

  • 6 Essex Geordie Bill // Jul 7, 2015 at 7:36 PM

    Cheers for the elucidation re the three Ameobi’s guys.

    So is it Tomi who is going on loan to Cardiff and not Sammy.

    Is the Gateshead game being shown anywhere?

  • 7 YouCouldn'tMakeItUp // Jul 7, 2015 at 7:37 PM

    Vespasian Flavian is a fantastic midfeilder

  • 8 optimistic prime // Jul 7, 2015 at 7:38 PM

    If you look through the named 25man squads over the last several years all of them have youth team players who never had or got a chance for the 1st team.

    Now and again they got on the bench or thrown in the deep end in a cup game.

    Go through the squads and I’ll guarantee there’s at least one who never got a sniff and hadn’t looked like getting one before being named in the squad.

  • 9 YouCouldn'tMakeItUp // Jul 7, 2015 at 7:38 PM

    Sammi is off to Cardif. He signed a new 2 year deal with us, but will be spending the first year on loan in Wales.

  • 10 GeordieTwo // Jul 7, 2015 at 7:39 PM

    OMG this is truly beautiful!! Once we sign Thorian Flavian wor troubles are over!!! This is a dream come true (possibly)!!! And no Essex mate, Tomi stays in Edmonton and Sammy goes to Wales. And Sholi does whatever Shola does….probably loses his watch and phones the police or something….

  • 11 YouCouldn'tMakeItUp // Jul 7, 2015 at 7:41 PM

    I had to change the name a lot to make it work…. it’s really Titus Flavius Vespasianus, known as Vespasian. Founded the Flavian Dynasty

  • 12 GeordieTwo // Jul 7, 2015 at 7:42 PM

    We’ve lost executives Thorian mate. And we’ve lost most of our best players over the last few years. But don’t let that rattle you….No…..errmm just sign on the dotted line and don’t bother to read the fine print (it’s just something about not actually being paid in any recognized European currency or something, I read it……it mentioned zlotties…..but I digress!!!! Just sign for us Thorian mate!!!!!

  • 13 GeordieTwo // Jul 7, 2015 at 7:44 PM

    I don’t care about his dynasty YCMIU mate!!!! This is exciting!!! He can actually play footy!!!! He can lie around drinking wine out of lead cups later when he’s an old radgie like us!!!! Beautiful…..never thought we’d get old Thorian……

  • 14 GeordieTwo // Jul 7, 2015 at 7:46 PM

    Used to love going to Whitley Bay with my parents Jib. A paper cup of winkles and welks, the sea air….Lovely.

  • 15 YouCouldn'tMakeItUp // Jul 7, 2015 at 7:47 PM

    I think it’s a typo…. we are signing Thorburn….Cliff Thorburn. Good with balls, but the wrong sort, and quite slow too!

  • 16 Essex Geordie Bill // Jul 7, 2015 at 7:48 PM

    I reckon I’d rather have £s than Euro’s at the moment.

    There’s got to be some bargains in the Greek league.

    C’mon Mike show us your predatory side and snaffle some bargains in the Greek fire sale. It’s what you do isn’t it.

  • 17 Jib // Jul 7, 2015 at 7:50 PM

    It is Sami who is going but the news was broken on Tommi’s twatter site

  • 18 optimistic prime // Jul 7, 2015 at 7:51 PM

    Last year Vukic plus Ferreya and Guiterez was put in the squad despite being surplus to requirements.

    Season before Tavrrnier

    Season before that Xisco Jimenez Anilfitano.

    There’s more if you look, basically because we lack quality in numbers it’s always bumped up with players/kids who have no chance.

  • 19 Essex Geordie Bill // Jul 7, 2015 at 7:52 PM

    Aah the Spanish City, I remember it well.

    Is it a housing estate now perchance.

    The Kursaal in Southend is!!

  • 20 Essex Geordie Bill // Jul 7, 2015 at 7:54 PM

    Glad to see I’m not going completely gah gah. 🙂

  • 21 croftus5678 // Jul 7, 2015 at 7:56 PM

    @18 op

    aye i agree

    bought players should only ever be starting 11 quality not squad players and youth players should go on loan untill they are ready to step up and only then do they become squad players.

    its a shame we have half a squad of duff players that no one will buy though.

  • 22 optimistic prime // Jul 7, 2015 at 8:02 PM

    Easiest way to say it is.

    Due to the amount of sub standard players in the 25man named squad any potentially decent kid can’t go on loan as there’s a chance he’ll have to fill the spot of a sub standard older player.

    Which IMO is down to money as Ashley mustn’t like paying the level that’s required to have some sort of talent or expirience as back up. Instead he uses the kids to try and plug the gaps.

    Which IMO ends up being detrimental to the progress of our youth players, Sammys loan is several years to late.

  • 23 LewSpi v2.0 // Jul 7, 2015 at 8:10 PM

    Sammys loan to borough was several years too late. Never mind this one.

  • 24 mickalfas // Jul 7, 2015 at 8:15 PM

    If we were relegated ,we’d struggle big time to get out of the championship with this squad
    A major overhaul is needed,which is not going to happen

  • 25 lochinvar // Jul 7, 2015 at 8:43 PM

    Each time we sign a significant player and show our intent then other players such as Thauvin will be more impressed and want to be part of an exciting future. Charney and McLaren need to project that ambition and get some key player signed – the rest should follow .
    Sell the dream !

  • 26 jazzyp // Jul 7, 2015 at 8:48 PM

    if that’s the case mate and we believe the Thauvin story, then why has Sissoko asked for a move today.

  • 27 optimistic prime // Jul 7, 2015 at 8:49 PM

    Where did you see that?

  • 28 jazzyp // Jul 7, 2015 at 8:49 PM

    We’ve been informed Liverpool have lodged official interest in Sissoko, and #NUFC holding out for £12m for the MF.

  • 29 jazzyp // Jul 7, 2015 at 8:51 PM

    Same places that are mentioning the Thauvin links

  • 30 mickalfas // Jul 7, 2015 at 8:52 PM

    Exactly !
    And we need to stop the policy of selling a good player and replacing with 2 or 3 duffers
    Quality not quantity!!

  • 31 optimistic prime // Jul 7, 2015 at 8:54 PM

    I know people are saying we need to be keeping players and improve the overall standard of the squad but Sissoko can’t leave for me.

    If we’re holding out for 12 how much did they offer ?

  • 32 martoon // Jul 7, 2015 at 8:55 PM

    Essex Geordie Bill – I find it incredible if people don’t know a story they just make something up e.g. JiB. The real story is Sammy is going to Cardiff on loan as we all know BUT before it was official his sister Titi (yes that’s her real name 🙂 ) gave the game away on her twitter account i.e.

  • 33 wingspan // Jul 7, 2015 at 8:56 PM

    Everyday I think tomorrows the day, it has to be. So much gossip, so many assurances by idiots on twitter. Then with each refresh throughout the day hope fades. Until the evening gloom descends.

    Being a newcastle fan is bullshit sometimes.

    Ah well, maybe tomorrows the day…………..

    Just maybe

  • 34 jazzyp // Jul 7, 2015 at 8:57 PM

    There is as much rumour building surrounding Kemen as the links we are to Wijnadum.
    If Ashley is after clearing St james park next season, I would suggest he is going about it the right way

    Ferguson, Elliot, Vuckic, Willo, Goofran, Bigirama should be binned, all have struggled to make a mark and are below level we need. Sammy an all, whose already gone.

  • 38 jazzyp // Jul 7, 2015 at 9:02 PM

    I know Sissoko didn’t have the best season but still remains one of our better players. Selling the lad yet again would prove that nothing has changed regarding the philosophy of selling our best players at every opportunity for a profit.

  • 39 jazzyp // Jul 7, 2015 at 9:04 PM

    Was just commenting to loch that The Thauvin story has the same grounds as the Sissoko story as the kemen story.

    To be believed or not is the question

  • 40 Belfast // Jul 7, 2015 at 9:05 PM

    James Milner will playing a central role next season. I really doubt their interested in Sissoko tbh

    They’ll buy Benteke and that’s them done.

  • 41 check the toastie // Jul 7, 2015 at 9:06 PM

    Its such a slow death waiting for the latest big name signing to be linked….

    Need signings in before squad goes to states, ffs

  • 42 Blackley and Brownlie // Jul 7, 2015 at 9:06 PM

    We need to get rid of at least half the squad. A massive overhaul’s required. Does Carr see that? Even if he does, is he good enough to sort it out?

  • 43 Jail for Ashley // Jul 7, 2015 at 9:07 PM

  • 44 check the toastie // Jul 7, 2015 at 9:09 PM

    Front five of

    Sissoko Wijnildum De Jong. Aarons

    Ideally Cabaye would be our deep lying playmaker but Anita would do, clever little player..

  • 45 Jail for Ashley // Jul 7, 2015 at 9:09 PM

    You’re back, did you miss us ????

  • 46 optimistic prime // Jul 7, 2015 at 9:11 PM

    It’s more for his attitude I want rid.
    He thinks he’s a CL player but never shows it, always pimping himself out.

    I don’t think he’s good for the team or the squad as a whole.

    Not making one tackle in the derby is un forgivable IMO and he was the captain, his example is one we don’t need.

  • 47 Kris // Jul 7, 2015 at 9:12 PM

    Marseille just signed the winger Bouna Sarr. Maybe this alows a Thauvin exit.

  • 48 Tsunki // Jul 7, 2015 at 9:12 PM

    Blackley seeing it and accounting for it are polar opposites don’t you know 😉

    Yep let’s get shot of Big Pimpin’!

  • 50 jazzyp // Jul 7, 2015 at 9:13 PM

    Hope your right as selling him to just replace him with Widdy doesn’t really strengthen the squad a great deal, although no doubt Wijnadum is a far better player.
    that is of course if we could be bothered to actually bid for the player

  • 51 Tsunki // Jul 7, 2015 at 9:14 PM

    Flavius Thorin. A Dwarf Roman General. Sounds just what we need.

  • 52 lochinvar // Jul 7, 2015 at 9:14 PM

    Knew Sissoki was restless so not surprised that the Scousers are rumoured to be interested. However Liverpool are rebuilding not just their team but their stadium and are in no way the force they used to be. They are trading off their reputation and with Suarez, Gerrard and Sterling out of the picture there is no reason to believe that they are no more than one of the many clubs vying for between top 10 and 4th position. In fact Man Utd and Arsenal have vulnerabilities with only Chelski and City able to buy their success. Sissoko should be careful what he wishes for. A rebuilt Newcastle can rival these other clubs – if Ashley spends wisely on the right players and McLaren and his team do their job then we can advance and be recognised. It’s all about confidence.

  • 61 jazzyp // Jul 7, 2015 at 9:20 PM

    Agree he has made mistakes and shown lack of desire and leadership when needed. but there are many more players at the club that need to be shown the door before him.
    Colo for trying to manufacture a move back to his father’s club shows as much of a lack of respect to Nufc.
    Cisse has done the same,was it last season or the season before when he tried to get a move away with the Wonga debate, and him being a muslim.
    Im sure we would all wish they showed the same commitment as Janmaat does to the club

    That seems to be the problem atm with dumb and dumber at the helm

    At this rate fatty ‘s going to bank money in this window

  • 66 Jail for Ashley // Jul 7, 2015 at 9:25 PM

    Santon03 posted the squad this morning or yesterday not sure, and said we have to sell. It’s the first time I think I’ve ever agreed with him. Oberton, Willo, Gouffran, Riverie, Marveaux and STaylor all have to go.

  • 67 jazzyp // Jul 7, 2015 at 9:25 PM

    that was exactly my point mate on Sissoko. If he has asked for a move or it is his agent touting him around again.

  • 68 Jib // Jul 7, 2015 at 9:27 PM

    Hardly bull , slightly wrong , but never mind you are in good company here .

  • 69 Tsunki // Jul 7, 2015 at 9:28 PM

    That episode with Colo you look back on now and think what was all that about? Anyway, it’s a good time for him to go, but I think he will stick around and collect his wages for as long as he can
    Anyway, he shouldn’t start the new season as captain.

    If we’re talking players who should stay based on attitude and usefulness, there aren’t many. Ones already been shown the street. Perez, Janmaat, Anita, er….err…..
    Oh. I forgot about Colback. I think we all forgot about Colback everyone. You know? Jack? Jack Colback?

    Hello all.
    I was at Worthing v Northampton tonight and saw Ivan Toney play, to be fair the lad had great feet but looks a million mile from the Premiership. The score was 5-2 to the cobblers.

  • 106 Mister Tuff // Jul 7, 2015 at 10:13 PM

    jibberish – the blog pest. the photo you posted earlier of Andy Caroll was not him holding a shirt up on his return to the Toon as you suggested.
    It was used in the Journal in 2011 when he transferred to Liverpool so must have pre-dated that.
    Anyone knowing Toon players would have realised it was a rather young looking Andy and not a recent photo.

    Duh—– what a knacker.

    I think he could have a great season,as he’s desperate to be in the french team next year,and to be fair the way Liverpool splash the cash they might pay £20m
    The problem we have is the fat cockney parasite might take whatever he’s offered !

  • 110 Online Guy // Jul 7, 2015 at 10:15 PM

    IF Sissoko leaves for Liverpool we are seriously weakening the team , that is not strengthening at all and shows no ambition once again..

    We dont have to sell before buying .

    The nation turned against Ashley last season ..people with no connection to the club made comments ..and now with Ashley’s speech/spiel to the fans he’s got no more corners to hide in ..

    He’s still got time to rectify the situation ..but history and low balling other clubs for player’s is what is going on right now ..I will cut my allegiance to the Club if its same old same old ..and it looks like it is

    Mugged off again ? chance .

  • 116 scout // Jul 7, 2015 at 10:19 PM

    Spoke with some Northampton fans who seemed certain there was a Prem scout watching Toney tonight. I had a sniff about but didnt clock any toon scouts.
    At 19 he could be worth a gamble looked better than Sammy to be fair.

  • 117 lochinvar // Jul 7, 2015 at 10:20 PM

    Good to hear you are ok.
    You never know but by the time you are home for the weekend we might have signed three or four players to talk about during your convalescence- on the other hand this is Newcastle so there might be nowt to talk about – but then again that seems unlikely

  • 118 Tsunki // Jul 7, 2015 at 10:21 PM

    Online – we are only weakening the side IF we don’t replace him. I think it would be suicidal for Ashley if he actually sold more key players than he bought, again. It would take more than a borrowed tie and a tearful video plea to the fans to repair that mess.

  • 122 lesh // Jul 7, 2015 at 10:24 PM

    A thought that’s probably crossed many minds:

    We’ve got McClaren who’s new to the Club and doesn’t know the players;

    Ashley / Charnley don’t like spending unless they have to;

    Charnley might convince McClaren that he really should assess the current staff before making any buying moves in the market;

    So, we’re off to the US with no new faces, a squad weakened by departures but with a few of the development squad added;

    We come back from the US, more friendless scheduled – to further assess the squad;

    Still no incomers and the season starts;

    Results not clever (we have a tough few games) and we start to make moves to clear out and err, buy a few players;

    But…. We sell a few and find that the players we’d like either aren’t for sale or too expensive (there’s that goddam line again!). But we bring in a couple of cheapies;

    August 31 and the window’s slammed shut;

    We continue to struggle for points;

    Christmas and we’re in deep doo-doo….. Players sold, more failed attempts to bring players in – they don’t want to come to SJP;

    Slam! Thud! The window’s closed and the rest of the season becomes yet another fight against relegation.

    And having dropped out of the cups before Christmas…….

    Sounds all too familiar.

    So much for Ashley’s horse and cart – or is it Steptoe and Son’s.

    Déjà vu again.

  • 123 croftus5678 // Jul 7, 2015 at 10:26 PM

    @118 tsunki

    how many times under ashley have we thought that only to get the “we couldnt get them over the line” story ?

    we should get the replacement before we sell the player ! its what all the good teams do.

    Sky report that Palace and PSV in agreement over Cabaye deal but Cabaye or perhaps Mrs Cabaye are “undecided”
    What fun if Ashley flew him to Newcastle to play on his Play Station and signed him from under Pardews nose. Or does Cabaye think Palace are Champions League material and that Pardew is the new Ferguson.

  • 134 Online Guy // Jul 7, 2015 at 10:34 PM

    Tsunki ,

    Howdy mate ..I think we are weakening the side by replacing like for like (if we do ) or maintaining the status quo .. wasn’t good last season !and not growing the squad/strengthening . Like for like is same as ..we remain static ..not growing .. Wijaldum and Socks could play in same team ..I think what also concerns is that if we sell to a team that we should be competing with on the park
    Liverpool, who know how to be the best of the rest ..Phew ! hope yer well.

    Newcastle United ..Trapdoor cup winners, 2014-2015.
