    And the next thread please

  • 2 WWSBRD // Jul 7, 2015 at 2:18 PM

From, now a few, threads back

It is making the best of a bad situation, I hope SM can prove to be better than Pardew and give us better football to watch

As for hoping Ashley has suddenly completely changed his aim for the club and now wants to win something, thats not for me bud. Good luck with it but ur setting urself up for another fall

  • 3 Novocastrian66 // Jul 7, 2015 at 2:19 PM

He wasn’t too confident. The famous right arm wasn’t raised until it landed.

  • 4 optimistic prime // Jul 7, 2015 at 2:21 PM

I was still foaming that AO had cancelled protest so Ashley’s lip service was a waste of his breath.

What people need to realise is Ashley only gave a toss about the fans or the 12th man when he needed them to try and save his investment.

I’m happy that the coaching staff seems to have been upgraded but I’ll be even happier if the protests start again with increased vigour once the season starts.

    Ashley out

  • 5 Ibizatoon // Jul 7, 2015 at 2:24 PM

Yo…All due respect, I’m not setting myself up for anything.

I could say you’re merely accepting whatever it is he throws at us and trying to find the good bits.

  • 6 BandB // Jul 7, 2015 at 2:25 PM

There is rather a lot of “ho ho ho, I wasn’t fooled.” going on.
You could argue that those who go from that to “has hasn’t promised us anything, therefore I laugh at fools who think they can” are the real mugs.
Weren’t the protests about saying we were sick of being mislead and weren’t going to take it anymore?

  • 7 Bri // Jul 7, 2015 at 2:26 PM

Yes you would think the club was penniless and i’ve gotta be honest if i was someone like C. Austin i wouldn’t sign for us,not the way this club is run.

  • 8 Jib // Jul 7, 2015 at 2:26 PM

One of the more stupid claims is that Ashley gave the interview to stop protests in the ground
He gave the interview 36 minutes before kickoff so how could the fans at SJP ( or heading that way ) possibly see it ?

  • 9 Ibizatoon // Jul 7, 2015 at 2:27 PM

  • 10 BandB // Jul 7, 2015 at 2:28 PM

Have you had a fall Ibizatoon?
    When did that happen?
    You okay?
Keith didn’t drop you did he….?

    With friends like these……

  • 11 Ibizatoon // Jul 7, 2015 at 2:29 PM

He didn’t give the interview to signal a new day at NUFC.

He didn’t do it stop the protests.

He didn’t do it to lie, as he didn’t actually say anything.

I guess he was just bored and fancied a chat then?

  • 12 BandB // Jul 7, 2015 at 2:32 PM

I’m not making that argument Jib.
    Show me where I am.
Is this going to be like when you said The Mirror hadn’t said Austin was a done deal…..

  • 13 Ibizatoon // Jul 7, 2015 at 2:32 PM

BandB…Actually, I have been to the doctors today. Ear infection. Not sure Bishop had anything to do with it mind.

  • 14 WWSBRD // Jul 7, 2015 at 2:35 PM

U arent setting urself up for anything but u believe that the club intends to change because of Ashley’s interview? Now am not following u mate haha

I think nothing will change until Ashley leaves

I didnt say Id laugh at those who believed Ashley I just wont feel bad for them when it all happens again

  • 15 croftus5678 // Jul 7, 2015 at 2:37 PM

its a catch 22 situation as always for us fans imo !

we have our youth players who can do a job for us but they tend to be better than our pro contract players !

no one wants those high wage not as good as the youth players but we are stuck with them as they have to run down their contract and theres no way ashley will pay their contracts up to release them when theres the slightest chance ashley could claw a bit of money out of a sale if they do perform ok for a game or 2 to convince a team to bid for them !

and !!!! by the time the avg pro players contracts have run out we now have several over age youth players who can now do a job wanting a squad number and needing to be sold before we can make room for a quality first team player !

and round and round we go on the ashley merry go round.

  • 16 BandB // Jul 7, 2015 at 2:38 PM

    I didn’t say you did.
    Different conversation.

  • 17 Jib // Jul 7, 2015 at 2:39 PM

    Calm down dear
Have a look at my post , I didn’t mention you

  • 18 Our Toon // Jul 7, 2015 at 2:40 PM

We have something called mobile phones, social media and countless other ways in which information gets passed back and forward. Example, I was in Hong Kong when Ashley announced to the UK viewers of his apparent intent, I finished my meeting 10 mins before kick off and went off to watch the game. When my meeting finished I have at least 17 text messages from friends and family telling me about Ashley’s interview.

I had over 300 WhatsApp messages discussing Ashley’s interview even from non toon fans. To think fans wouldn’t hear of it is naive and some what daft buddy!!

  • 19 WWSBRD // Jul 7, 2015 at 2:41 PM

Ah sorry, am far to used to thinly veiled jabs haha I retract my comment

  • 20 Our Toon // Jul 7, 2015 at 2:42 PM

In my opinion the interview was given to cover his own back as he thought we were going down, he would have needed the fans more than ever if we got relegated. It was a PR stunt and it worked a treat for Ashley.

  • 21 WWSBRD // Jul 7, 2015 at 2:42 PM

Out of curiosity why do u think Ashley gave that interview?

  • 22 optimistic prime // Jul 7, 2015 at 2:42 PM

I stopped going to matches due to being lied to and misled, the protest were something else.
For me they were about I’ve had enough and want Ashley out, no amount of false promises on his part were ever going to change that.

I’m not happy to wait and see, I’d rather have turned up with a couple hundred and protested outside the FF.

We’ve seen everything we were ever going to see from Ashley over the last 8years, I’d say it’s a mugs game to expect any change.

As far as I’m concerned it’s to little to late from Ashley, if we got to a cup final I’d still hold a Ashley out banner up.

Some people may say that would make fans look stupid, I’d say not half as stupid as giving Ashley another chance.

People giving him chance after chance is what has led to this situation, fans have enabled him and now he knows how far he can push them.
That’s no bases for a positive and healthy relationship between club and fans.

I want what’s best for NUFC and Ashley certainly isn’t good for NUFC.

  • 23 BandB // Jul 7, 2015 at 2:51 PM

Why do you think he gave it?
I don’t imagine he woke up that morning and just fancied breaking the habits of a lifetime and giving, not just an interview, but a live one.

It can’t have been the influence of that expensive PR consultant specialising in crisis management he employs, because we all know, Ashley just laughs off fan opinion.

  • 24 croftus5678 // Jul 7, 2015 at 2:52 PM

    @22 op

    i agree.

i think ashley would be great if he was not so greedy and did what he said he was going to do !

sadly he just wants too much at the expense of the team !

tbh it’s even partly down to carr ! i think he’s a good scout and found some gems dont get me wrong but the ones he has got wrong in riviere/goofy/obertan/anita ect the ones that no one wants to bid for that have not performed are stopping the very tight ashley wanting to spend money when we have a squad full allready from his point of view.

  • 25 Our Toon // Jul 7, 2015 at 2:53 PM

I completely agree with you mate, I will never return to SJP to watch a game until Ashley has gone, he could buy Messi and Ronaldo for all I care and I still would never forgive him because he won’t change, people like that don’t change….especially overnight.

All his interview did was to latch onto hope that fans have, that’s all that’s left, this summer is already proving just how full of shit he is. Nothing will ever change whilst he’s here

  • 26 Ibizatoon // Jul 7, 2015 at 2:56 PM

Yo…I’m more going with the tide.

I saw it as we either call him out straight away and carry on as we were (protesting) or we give them a chance to show some intent to deliver on what some percieved to be said by Ashley.

I didn’t for one minute think we’d go right down the middle and just accept where we’re at, which kind of seems to be where you’re coming from?

As for what I thought the intention of the interview was. Just this. Stop the prorests, then divide and conquer. Or should that be redivide and reconquer?

  • 27 WWSBRD // Jul 7, 2015 at 2:56 PM

I think it was a quick and easy fail-safe in case we went down, when fans money would be far more important

Why do u think he gave it?

  • 28 optimistic prime // Jul 7, 2015 at 2:57 PM

I’d say Ashley gave his interview because bullshit baffles.

He defused a potential protest after the game by baffling people.

A lot just saw it as positive because he spoke.

Most said why would he give such a interview if he didn’t intend to change, what they missed was that there was no content in that interview to warrant such optimism. Again, bullshit baffles.

  • 29 croftus5678 // Jul 7, 2015 at 3:01 PM

no matter how we look at things ashleys first thought are “can we get money for him” !

sammy proves it ! we offer him a contract why ? because if we do we get compensation !

we know he’s not good enough and no team wants to sign him but he wont lose out on money so a years loan if he improves then whoohoo ashleys get more than he paid for him being £0 if he doesnt improve then he comes back next season and has a squad number hoping to improve or stays in the squad untill his contract runs out taking up another number so an extra player we can not sign.

our money keeps going up our squad seems to stay the same quality as our main players are sold and another starting player is brought in to replace them hence squad size is always max untill more outgoing players.

  • 30 optimistic prime // Jul 7, 2015 at 3:02 PM

The left hand is making shadow puppets to distract you while the right hand is going through your pockets.

  • 31 mickalfas // Jul 7, 2015 at 3:07 PM

What exactly has changed since the interview ,
Coaching staff ,no expense ,covered by Pardew’s compo
Removed himself from the board ,to me that means from now on blame Penfold
    Signings = 0
What’s their to be positive about?

  • 32 Our Toon // Jul 7, 2015 at 3:10 PM

Ashley hires the likes of penfold JFK Llambias so he can hide behind them, no signings etc is down to MA the person thay signs the cheques, the face we all see is penfold

  • 33 BandB // Jul 7, 2015 at 3:16 PM

Because when you are under pressure, you serve, and get the ball back in the oppositions’ court.
The protest movement fell to squabbling immediately.
Lots wanted a truce to hear him out and you can’t decently shoot at a flag of truce.
They may have figured, that come what may, by this time of the summer the fans would have a thousand different opinions and would take just about anything they were given.

  • 34 optimistic prime // Jul 7, 2015 at 3:16 PM

I sort of have a problem with people saying “I wish Ashley would do what he says he’s going to do”

What is it he’s said he’s going to do?

Ashley has never committed or said he’d change the way he runs the club.

Saying he won’t leave until NUFC win a cup isn’t saying he’s going to try and win a cup.

To many fans have heard or read things into what Ashley said, he never even implied things would change.

  • 35 BandB // Jul 7, 2015 at 3:20 PM

The speech was a masterpiece of implication.

You are laying the blame on the fans for inventing things, rather than being mislead.

Keith Bishop would have invented your argument in his best case scenario.

  • 36 lesh // Jul 7, 2015 at 3:21 PM

I’d suspect your ear infections down to some of the drivel that’s thrown your way.

  • 37 Novocastrian66 // Jul 7, 2015 at 3:22 PM

OurToon; Not that it will ever happen, but if Ashley loosened the purse strings and bought a load of top class players and the team was playing attractive football, you would be back in a heart beat.

  • 38 WWSBRD // Jul 7, 2015 at 3:24 PM

Giving him a chance to prove himself isnt just going down the middle and accepting? Seems pretty similar to me

I am apathetic towards the club, I have owned up to that before nothings really changed to make me more extreme or positive. Thousands of fans like me who dont give their money to the club anymore unfortunately there is plenty that still do. I had some hope that the protests would produce something but it seems Ashley destroyed months of work in 2 minutes?

If he fails this summer and redoes his interview, does he have til the end of Jan then and so on and so forth? When does that stop?

  • 39 Ibizatoon // Jul 7, 2015 at 3:29 PM

Sorry, going to have to put this deabte on hold (well, I am – you obviously can carry on 🙂 )

    Work calls…

    Catch you all later

  • 40 optimistic prime // Jul 7, 2015 at 3:29 PM

It’s that age old saying, fool me once.

The majority of fans are always going to hope things will get better and the interview played on that.

If fans after 8years are so easily mislead, more fool them.

    Once bitten and all that.

If he’d came out listed the mistakes made at the club and then listed what he was going to do to change things for the better fair enough we’re are being mislead.

None of that was said and fans took a nothing statement as a statement of intent.

That’s not being mislead that’s being naive.

  • 41 BandB // Jul 7, 2015 at 3:30 PM

Deniability is woven into the speech.
Plausible deniability is the aim of almost every statement written by a skilled manipulator.
I imagine the denials had been well-rehearsed.
But, as usual, the fans got there with them first.

  • 42 hibbit // Jul 7, 2015 at 3:32 PM

ashleys speech was a master stroke that wrong footed almost every one bishop earned his wages that day……but it could come back and bite him he defused that day took the wind out of the sails of the AO group but also raised the expectations of so many others who heard in ashley speech what they wanted to hear not what he said

  • 43 Our Toon // Jul 7, 2015 at 3:34 PM

Sorry mate I wouldn’t, I’m not fickle in that way, the players bought this summer will be gone in a year or 2!!

  • 44 optimistic prime // Jul 7, 2015 at 3:34 PM

Carry on investing became he intends to invest heavily.

Horse and cart became we’re financially secure we can now spend

I’m not leaving until NUFC win something became Ashley’s going to try and win something.

Fans implied there was more to the interview than there was, I said as much the day after the interview.

  • 45 croftus5678 // Jul 7, 2015 at 3:35 PM

    @34 op

maybe i was not clear enough in that comment !

i meant by that that he will re-invest in players with the money we have earnt as a clun but he will only do it “when” its not at the expense of anything else ! (like losing out on a possible fee for an under performing player)

when if he would just pay them out of their contract making room for a better player we would be more out of pocket at a team but be able to build faster into a challenging team.

  • 46 BandB // Jul 7, 2015 at 3:35 PM

    But …..YOU…. ARE being fooled.

You are being fooled into making the case the club might have made….that the fans invented it all in their heads.

  • 47 Our Toon // Jul 7, 2015 at 3:36 PM

Ashley’s escape will always be that he doesn’t have anything to do with the footballing side, he’s not on the board anymore, he hires people amd they are to blame!!

  • 48 optimistic prime // Jul 7, 2015 at 3:38 PM

I’m with you there, the interview could back fire spectacularly.

  • 49 scottoon // Jul 7, 2015 at 3:39 PM

There can be no doubt that the Ashley interview has had many ripple effects, but undoubtedly one of the most important goals he had was to deflect criticism and turn the gunsights elsewhere. The interview was soon followed by a re-shuffling of the football board and voila!….

The number of antiCharmless rants has increased exponentially while the number of folks willing to give Ashley time to live up to his promises (and by the way, there were none) has concurrently increased.

There is only one man calling the shots and setting the policies at NUFC and he is a fat cockney b**tard.

  • 50 Blackley and Brownlie // Jul 7, 2015 at 3:42 PM

Ashley spoke about bolting the horse to the cart; making our own luck in future; and winning a cup. That means he was giving a signal that the club would spend money and be ambitious to achieve something.

Some people are saying they’re cleverer than others because they’ve looked at the interview more closely and claim he never said anything that amounts to ambition. I’m not with those people.

He’s made the statement in his only interview to camera. There’s no way he can play it down and have any credibility. If he doesn’t live up to the impression he’s given to the majority of fans, he’s gone back on his interview. It will be grist to the mill to his detractors and I’m surprised they’re not the main ones wanting to hold him to account for failing to keep to his word, if that’s what happens.

  • 51 Tsunki // Jul 7, 2015 at 3:42 PM

Erm hang on the screens inside the sjp concourse play ssn before the match don’t they? Also the bars all around sjp. And as someone said ssn on mobile phone is pretty commonplace. I think that word of mouth would have got Ashleys speech covered in the crowd that day. Thinking about it, the timing was shrewd as it gave no chance for theAO crew/mob/rabble/filth/reprobates/scum/crowd you get the idea ha ha to mull it over and regroup.

    Is ‘Doh’ appropriate now? 🙂

  • 52 martoon // Jul 7, 2015 at 3:43 PM

  • 55 Blackley and Brownlie // Jul 7, 2015 at 3:46 PM

It doesn’t matter how incompetent Charnley is. When it comes to apportioning blame for failure, Ashley is the man responsible. He said so himself. “My door.” What more can he say on that score?

  • 56 BandB // Jul 7, 2015 at 3:46 PM

I really didn’t think I’d be having to make the case for holding Ashley to the substantive meaning of his words, whether you believed them or not, to some of the people I am.

  • 57 Tsunki // Jul 7, 2015 at 3:48 PM

Oh dear Jeff. First the Mirror denial. Now the SSN @ SJP denial. Looks like this hovering like a kitehawk over posts for mistakes you can pounce on is backfiring these days. Ever thought of pitching in rather than pitch forking in?

@Tsunki: I’m trying to remember the last time I was in SJP and I had signal strong enough to receive a text, let alone watch live TV.

I’m starting to think that signal booster we won in that raffle is a bit dodgy.

  • 60 hibbit // Jul 7, 2015 at 3:56 PM

a lot of people were caught up in what they thought he said not what he said ………..a new coach is great a step up new staff are looking good saying all the right things this must count as a plus …..BUT…if no new players come in and Mc and his staff dont hit the ground running the problems for ashley will be greater then last season………….. people are not putting there money into season tickets…………. so not every one believes him

  • 61 Mister Tuff // Jul 7, 2015 at 3:57 PM

Several weeks months prior to Mr Tubbs giving his interview -Carver revealed they were going to spend in the summer – said he’d seen the list of potential signings.
Therefore I think that an element of Mr Tubbs speech – the suggestion of investment (spending) was known before his interview. So to my mind the promise of a spend was public knowledge beforehand – unless people craved for that assurance from Mr Tubbs.
Bottom line at SJP – whether you like it or not is that if there is change afoot fans will not cause problems -if the team are playing half decently -the fans will not cause problems.
If there is the suggestion of decent signings – the fans will not cause problems.

  • 62 optimistic prime // Jul 7, 2015 at 4:00 PM

I said all this the day after the interview, it was set up to say nothing but leave a few crumbs to get the starving salavating.

I’m not being fooled into saying what the club might say, I said the day after that was the plan.

Personally I think the timing was a master stroke. 25mins before the match when most had a cpl refreshers, still in a loud bar where it’s a struggle to hear exactly what’s being said. Or getting a text via the Chinese whispers hotline.

Then when the fans got home possibly pissed buzzing we stayed up with renewed optimisim the fairy tale took hold.

  • 63 Blackley and Brownlie // Jul 7, 2015 at 4:09 PM

The fans will now expect to see significant investment and consistent evidence of ambition. The level of satisfaction or unrest will be measured accordingly.

My concern is more the club’s competence than it’s ambition, although I don’t think the club will show enough ambition. It “might” spend big, but it won’t spend wisely. The set up appears to be all wrong, and the personnel, Charnley and Carr in particular, aren’t up to it.

  • 64 Noel Worst // Jul 7, 2015 at 4:16 PM

I suppose living in the fat capital of the world USA, somewhat skews your perception of fit and trim, Ed! All relative.

  • 65 Mister Tuff // Jul 7, 2015 at 4:18 PM

We have four tough games for the start of the next campaign. The current squad would undoubtedly be walloped in each of these games.
If there is no real improvement at the start of the season -dissatisfaction will commence.
So a few quality players is a must -and then getting them to play as a team/unit.

  • 66 Blackley and Brownlie // Jul 7, 2015 at 4:19 PM

If Ashley was truly ambitious, and committed for the long term, you’d expect to see the club investing millions in the Academy and training facilities. You’d also expect to see the club trumpeting the fact, and regularly reporting its plans and progress to the fans.

  • 67 ilovetoon8788 // Jul 7, 2015 at 4:20 PM

I won’t be foIled. I Say we will only sign 1 player and that’s provided one is outgoing. We will never progress under Ashley. Sick of lies.

  • 68 BandB // Jul 7, 2015 at 4:21 PM

Our last pre-season game is 24 days away.

  • 69 martoon // Jul 7, 2015 at 4:23 PM

If I can add to the on-going discussion. I think most fans were encouraged by the fact Ashley did an interview more than the content of it. The protests at the match were diffused by the result, performance, Jonas and the sheer relief of staying up rather than the Ashley interview. I think most are waiting to see what happens now on transfers etc. before making a judgement.

  • 70 scottoon // Jul 7, 2015 at 4:26 PM

The fans have always expected significant investment and ambition. Therein lies the disconnect. The problem is that our expectations have been lowered so far that many of us think that if we sign one CB and one striker it will be job done. The side needs a significant overhaul, and maybe McLaren can bring that out in the assets we have, but that is a big maybe.

  • 73 Mister Tuff // Jul 7, 2015 at 4:46 PM

A consequence of the Mr Tubbs interview -whether it was intended or not is probably immaterial. It had the effect of sinking the AO protests -quicker than the Titanic going down.
The new coaching team (in total) to be fair will be given a chance. They do need at least 5 additional players though.
Bear in mind other clubs are strengthening with their TV money.

yesterday i asked myself whats the min i would accept and without even thinking about it i said 1cb 1 striker !

ask yourselves the same question then look back at how they have lowered our ambitions and expectations without us even realising.

  • 81 Jib // Jul 7, 2015 at 5:17 PM

If we got Wijnaldum we won’t need a defence we’ll play to the Keegan philosophy – always score more than the oppo – front five of Aarons Perez Cisse deJong and Wijnaldum OMG !!!!

  • 82 croftus5678 // Jul 7, 2015 at 5:21 PM

    @80 jib

lol wishfull thinking bringing back those days !

i agree wij will be a huge step up in class for us even though imo cm is our strongest part of the team.

i’d love to see siem / wij / roland in our midfield as there would be plenty of goals and assists at my best guess even without a striker.

  • 83 hibbit // Jul 7, 2015 at 5:26 PM

jib…. and that lots going scare the shit out of the prem 3 crocks 2 decent players think again jeff

  • 84 optimistic prime // Jul 7, 2015 at 5:27 PM

Just watching a quiz show and the question was

Which of Danger Mouse’s allies was code named jigsaw?

The answer was Penfold as he goes to pieces when under pressure.

Charnleys earned his nick name on more than looks alone.

  • 85 Jib // Jul 7, 2015 at 5:29 PM

I know I’ll get slated for it on here , but I am a subscriber to NUFCtv and Good and Lascelles are both looking good in training. I know it’s very early doors and only training but I like what I see.

  • 86 Jib // Jul 7, 2015 at 5:35 PM

When you call injured players crocks you just reveal a lack of knowledge of top class sport.
The list of players who have missed a season through injury and come back stronger is as long as your arm

  • 87 croftus5678 // Jul 7, 2015 at 5:36 PM

    @84 jib

no one can stop you having your opinions buddy

i like lescalles myself even though he’s still far too raw imo esp to be a regular starter expected to sort out the mess of our defence is far too much pressure for him imo.

on good i’m not convinced myself he has the brain but not the body for a cb imo ! if you could take remy streete’s body and good brain you’d have a cracking cb ! wheres doc frankenstein when you need him eh ?

mind you hope your right tbh there still both very young and cant be worse than williamson and co can they lol

  • 88 hibbit // Jul 7, 2015 at 5:48 PM

jib we are talking about newcastle here not top teams we cannot keep injury prone players fit siem has to prove he can play in the prem and his fitness cisse his head is in other parts not here arons to much of a party boy who has had half a dozen good games a long way to go perez looking good but first season wij quality player but never played in the prem could need time to settle not sure your the expert you think you are

  • 89 geordieboy83 // Jul 7, 2015 at 5:55 PM

This whole interview thing! I think this is a case of people hearing what they want to hear both for and against.

When asked his ambition. “It is now to win something”

The horse and cart scenario. “It’s no good having the cart, without the horse, now we need to bolt the horse to the cart, and we will”

However, he did say continue to invest, and look to get the best deal pound for pound.

So he did state the aim of the club has changed, and that players will be signed. So nobody can say he didnt and we imagined it, alas he also didnt say massive amounts would be spent

  • 90 geordieboy83 // Jul 7, 2015 at 5:58 PM

I would genuinely be happy with 4 top quality signings, wij, mitrovic, matip, veltman. With 2 or 3 development signings. Thats purely coz i think that’s all we need. So long as nobody leaves

  • 91 dok - the horrid colonial // Jul 7, 2015 at 6:01 PM

I see ive been gone a few weeks, and there are still no signings…

well done NUFC, well done indeed…

  • 92 croftus5678 // Jul 7, 2015 at 6:14 PM

so is the squad at 23 numbers now that sammy has gone or 24 numbers ? i’m guessing it will mean the difference as to how many players we will get in max !

not to forget we have harris/curtis/marv/ect ect who will prob have to have a number if they are not sent out on loan again.

  • 93 Jib // Jul 7, 2015 at 6:21 PM

    Where is Geordie 2 ?!?!?
I hope he hasn’t got his legs tangled in his fongbat

  • 96 beermonkey // Jul 7, 2015 at 6:28 PM

did he sign with us then go out onloan or did he just sign for Cardiff

  • 97 Jib // Jul 7, 2015 at 6:31 PM

It’s a loan deal with the bluebirds

  • 98 croftus5678 // Jul 7, 2015 at 6:35 PM

    @96 beer

he signed a 2 year deal with us then went out on a season long loan mate.

  • 99 Tsunki // Jul 7, 2015 at 6:39 PM

2 year deal is a make or break for Sammy. A good idea, one year with Cardiff, then if he’s done ok he might get a spell next term in the team to see if he’s worth keeping. If not, oh well.

  • 100 Bambams // Jul 7, 2015 at 6:39 PM

You know I can understand when we quibble over a price when £15 million difference between our and their valuations. …

The kid from Northampton is allegedly £300k-600k “Carr has watched him several times “…..
We can’t even afford to buy a lad still in the sixth form !!

  • 101 Moonraker15 // Jul 7, 2015 at 6:42 PM

Funny how we don’t have trouble getting them over the line when they’re going out!

Charnley is absolutely useless! I’m now convinced that they are gonna use what we’ve got and expect Wally to improve them and the team!

We’ll be in the bottom 3 by Christmas!

Wally has been duped ! All that freakin money in the bank and we’re not spending! WTF ?

  • 102 GeordieTwo // Jul 7, 2015 at 6:42 PM

It’s another day lacking signings I see. Don’t fret about why Assley did the interview Ibiza mate. He treats us like meat popsicles but it won’t work. Boycott the ground and see what happens. I do think we’ll get 2 or 3 in but it won’t be nearly enough. Our first 8 matches of the season will tell the tale. Assley has run out of lives. He needs to go asap.

  • 103 Tsunki // Jul 7, 2015 at 6:44 PM

I dunno about everyone else but my page ads are seriously going up in the world. Currently I’m getting the Very catalogue store ads. A pleasant change from rent a slag 3 miles away. |:

  • 104 optimistic prime // Jul 7, 2015 at 6:44 PM

NUFC confirmed he’d signed a contract with us at the same time Cardiff announced they had him on a years loan.

I find the claims McLaren wanted to assess the squad before buying or selling very funny. The Sammy to Cardiff rumours have been going round for 3 weeks.

  • 105 Tsunki // Jul 7, 2015 at 6:45 PM

Sorry. 😐 that should have been. He was upside down. Ahhhhh bless

  • 106 GeordieTwo // Jul 7, 2015 at 6:45 PM

Sammy is a Championship quality player. So is Willo. Saylor might do well there but he would probably injure himself in the first match. Our squad depth is non-existent. We have sick notes, and damaged goods (Gouffy for example). Forget any major improvement with Charmless and Assley in charge. Look for minor improvement to keep us in the Prem and that is all. Boycott this club of rubbish.

  • 107 GeordieTwo // Jul 7, 2015 at 6:45 PM

  • 108 LewSpi v2.0 // Jul 7, 2015 at 6:46 PM

It’s an interesting post that Crofts, seeing the squad like that. I think we need at least 5 new faces, which would mean getting rid of 7.

We have 3 goalkeepers, 8 defenders, 13 midfielders and 3 strikers

These would be the ones I’d get rid of (obviously they’d be replaced in some capacity…

    1. Williamson
    2. Taylor
    3. Ferguson
    4. Gouffran
    5. Abeid
    6. Vuckic
    7. Colocinni

Some really difficult decisions in there because I really like Abeid and obviously Colo is the captain. But for me it’s the Central defence, load of shite. Who would you consider the fat that needs to be trimmed?

  • 109 GeordieTwo // Jul 7, 2015 at 6:47 PM

That’s it for me today lads. I have more than I can handle here at home. Double Harrumph!!!

  • 110 GeordieTwo // Jul 7, 2015 at 6:48 PM

    Very nice post LewSpi @108.

  • 111 Tsunki // Jul 7, 2015 at 6:49 PM

Op – I still think that fans will be surprised at the level of control Steve Mac doesn’t actually have. For example, jettisoning a perfectly serviceable Jonas beforehand was completely money oriented, no consideration as to whether the new manager might want to come in and see first. And I doubt it was done on Steves say so, because if that was the case I think a few others would have been given their notice. I think Steve is already resigned to seeing how the first half of the season goes with our well worn bunch of misfits.

  • 112 Tsunki // Jul 7, 2015 at 6:50 PM

Whoa! G 2 is here! Or is he?

  • 113 YouCouldn'tMakeItUp // Jul 7, 2015 at 6:54 PM

In your list, i would swap Obertan for Abied, but i wouldnt argue with the rest.

  • 114 Belfast // Jul 7, 2015 at 6:56 PM

I would keep Abeid and get rid of the rest on your list.

  • 115 Tsunki // Jul 7, 2015 at 6:57 PM

Lewspi – I can see a case for Saylor being kept as backup for economy reasons. He might stay reasonably fit I don’t know. If he got injured again time to call it a day though. Colo is now cheap enough to sell back home and a relief to the wage bill. Vuckic, fergy goofy willo, not good enough. I’d keep Abeid. I think he just needs a good run and a proper role.

  • 116 LewSpi v2.0 // Jul 7, 2015 at 6:58 PM

G2 – Thanks, people are expecting signings straight away but until you see the squad like that you don’t realise just how much trash there actually is to get rid of! And I’ve seen no real mention of defenders whatsoever, we’re all distracted by Wijn and Austin.

YCMIU – It was a very hard choice between them 2 yeah, I’ve seen glimpses form Iberian, just a shame he’s always injured!

  • 117 optimistic prime // Jul 7, 2015 at 6:58 PM

I agree mate, the facts don’t fit the clubs Fairytale.

I’d have kept Jonas and Sammy over Goufran or Obertan all day.

The decisions were already made, I hope Schteeves ready for a fight if not it’ll be flight.

  • 118 Tsunki // Jul 7, 2015 at 6:58 PM

That was a shortlist though Lewspi. Obertan, Riviere, Cabella, Dummett – all just under the required standard.

  • 119 GeordieTwo // Jul 7, 2015 at 6:59 PM

Yes! Obertan on that list as well. Abeid is touch and go. What about Riviere? What about Dummett? What about the sick note Haidara? Worth keeping? What about Bigi? Will De Jong stay fit for any length of time? Will Aarons? What about Krul? Go or stay?

  • 120 Tsunki // Jul 7, 2015 at 7:00 PM

Yes I know I said Cabella. Not taking it back either. 🙁

  • 121 LewSpi v2.0 // Jul 7, 2015 at 7:00 PM

Seems like people are in pretty much agreement then, with the exception of Abeid, anyone else you’d add? Say if we needed to get rid of 8 or 9?

  • 122 GeordieTwo // Jul 7, 2015 at 7:00 PM

I haven’t forgotten about defenders LewSpi mate. It’s absolutely crucial to spend money on quality CB’s. We let in 63 goals last season. Harrumph.

  • 123 Tsunki // Jul 7, 2015 at 7:01 PM

G2 you forgot to ask about question marks didn’t you?????

  • 124 YouCouldn'tMakeItUp // Jul 7, 2015 at 7:01 PM

Actually yeah, forgot about riviere. He would be booted out imo. That leaves room for 6 new players. I would give cabella another season though. I think Dummet is a good squad player as well. (No more than that).

  • 125 croftus5678 // Jul 7, 2015 at 7:01 PM

    @108 lew

tbh its more a case of who we can get rid of imo !

who would take the players we want out and if its a lower league team would they even take a pay cut in the thousands no doubt over the remaining years of their contracts ?

the easiest to offload imo are fergusson / vukic / abied / bigi because they are on very low wages and they are still very young but tbh i think all four of those can do a better job than some of the players we have on 20times there wage and more !

  • 126 Tsunki // Jul 7, 2015 at 7:02 PM

Mind our goal difference was something to cringe at. Has been for a while too

  • 127 GeordieTwo // Jul 7, 2015 at 7:02 PM

What about Good? Will he ever be fit again? And many of the young’uns we thought would have a chance are already long gone. What happened to our quality youth scouting and development system of the last 8 years?

  • 128 LewSpi v2.0 // Jul 7, 2015 at 7:02 PM

Tsunki I completely agree with the extra 4, Dummet maybe not so much as that is literally all of the CBs haha. But I actually had the other 3 you mention on my original shortlist, but swapped them back out.

  • 129 TacoFlavoredKisses ForMyBen-arfa // Jul 7, 2015 at 7:02 PM

i repeat, where are the minutes? does it really take that long for them to be produced?

  • 130 Belfast // Jul 7, 2015 at 7:03 PM

I actually like Riverire he’d need to hit the ground running next season though
