It now seems even likely that Newcastle goalkeeping coach Andy Woodman will be leaving Newcastle shortly, with the news that Alan Pardew wants him at Crystal Palace and has put in an offer for him.
It was noticeable that Andy was not in the photo of Steve McClaren and the new coaching staff a couple of days ago.
Andy Woodman – Newcastle goalkeeping coach
There was always a question as to whether Andy would stay as part of Steve McClaren’s new coaching staff, or that Eric Steel would be brought in.
Andy was training at Newcastle yesterday with the goalkeepers, as he welcomed back Newcastle’s top goalkeeper Tim Krul from his summer break.
Andy has followed Alan Pardew to most of his clubs, so it would not be a surprise if he did join Palace, with rumors fairly persistent in the summer he would do that.
One thing that’s certain is that if Woodman does leave the club, there’s just no way his 18 year-old son – goalkeeper Freddie Woodman would leave Newcastle.
The England U19 International is well thought of at the club, and could even be loaned out this season to get some first team games.
Arsenal and Southampton have been linked with wanting to sign Freddy this summer, but he will not be leaving Newcastle.
His father Andy has a contract for another five years at Newcastle, so the offer would be compensation for Newcastle.
It will be much like the way Palace paid compensation for Alan Pardew of around £4M to take him to Palace in early January.
