Lee Charnley in Holland – Georginio Wijnaldum Deal Imminent

Dutch newspaper De Telegraaf is reporting today that Lee Charnley traveled to Holland yesterday in an attempt to get the deal for Georginio Wijnaldum completed, and with Everton said to be entering the race, they think that Charnley will now try to get the deal done very quickly, and maybe even today.

Georginio Wijnaldum

Georginio Wijnaldum – leaves for Switzerland tomorrow

Here is an extract from their report:

¨It is doubtful whether captain Georginio Wijnaldum will be present Thursday, with PSV going to their training camp in Switzerland.¨

¨There is additional pressure, now that Everton have eyes on Wijnaldum. The club from Liverpool is going to maybe interfere in the short-term in the battle for the PSV captain.¨

¨Given the dynamism of Newcastle United, however, there could be a quick agreement possible.¨

¨Managing Director Lee Charnley of Newcastle United yesterday personally traveled to the Netherlands to negotiate in the Amsterdam region with representatives of PSV.¨

I like the bit about the dynamism of Newcastle United.

Tomorrow the PSV squad and Wijnaldum will leave for a training camp in Switzerland, and so Wijnaldum will not be available at that time, which is why they say a deal is even possible today.

If Newcastle don’t complete the deal today one thing to look for is whether Wijnaldum travels to Switzerland tomorrow, because if he doesn’t it’s even more reason to suggest Newcastle are very close to getting their first signing this week.

We hope that Everton coming in  for the 19 times Dutch International will get Newcastle moving quickly today – and with the squad leaving this weekend for their USA tour time is running out if they want any new signings on the plane to America.

If Newcastle can indeed pull this deal off it will be huge relief for head coach Steve McClaren, who is keen to get news faces in at Newcastle.

It will also be very good news for the (very) frustrated Newcastle fans.

Comments welcome.

Could get a deal over the line today after all! Not holding me breath though. Got a feeling Everton could scupper it. Our dutch players could tempt him though also.

Matip and the dutch lad in one day, that would be brilliant eh! I’d be amazed but pleased.

If only that Tea lady wld get Austin and Wijnadum in before we fly to USA and Carr comes with Matip from Germany we will b good to go. We will b ready for the new season.

Am one of those people against bringing Thauvin. We have Aarons

I dont want Thauvin either, he seems to hasnt right character for professional, rather go for Diego Rolán or André Carillo…but bring Wijnaldum as soon as possible, it will be fresh start and he will give some hope for next season…

    I think e striker deal will take long. I think the order is ;
    1. Mitrovic – because of his age with sale on value.
    2. Austin
    3. Roland

I think we wi b stupid to sell Cisse. Mcclaren is brighter than that. I think if we sell Sissoko then we can bring Thauvin.

wijnaldum is a hell of a lot better than thauvin and i’ll be over the moon if we get him !

same with matip he’s a huge improvement for us !

i’m all for signing quality and not quantity as look what that did to puds last year ! and hopefully this year 😉

i’m not gonna say i’m not getting my hopes up untill its done though….oh i just did.

we already have far too many midfielders but appreciate we’ll be losing sissoko but we’ll only get one midfielder because thats all we need

Would much rather see ED making up some bulls!it stories about the three defenders we desperately need.

Austin is defo not coming to us…defenders and strikers don’t seem to be mentioned much so hopefully we’re doing stuff as quietly as we can for those targets whilst we run with headline stories for players we’re simply not in for.

If Roland can play Wing Forward then I will sign him before Thauvin.

Thauvin is another Ben Arfa, Ballotelli, Barton. An active Volcano

… completing the deal today is one thing that we wont do it. Its too fast too easy. Its not our management style.

    Forget about it guys.

We have tried our best but the players just cant go through.
We will have a go again in Jan window.

For now good luck to the NEW Management all All the best for the Coaches….yr lovely Owner, MA

Think he is a great player and even better prospect. But the whole transfer stinks of seeing an opportunity to make some money in 2-3 years. A attacking midfielder CAN’T have been our priority ahead of a striker or entire new defence. Rather than planning our targets against our needs, they seem to just wait and see who is young and available for less than their market value. Not knocking Wijnaldum, think he is great but how are you going to get Wijnaldum, de Jong, Aarons and Perez into your team? My only thinking is that they may now play de Jong as an out and out striker.
