There has been news in the Rome press today through Italian journalist Alfredo Pedulla on his own web-site – that Anderlecht striker Aleksandar Mitrovic is waiting for a bid from Roma for his services.
If the bid does not materialize tonight then Alfredo is reporting that Mitrovic will travel to Newcastle on Thursday to meet with Newcastle officials, who are said to have agreed a fee of about €16M with his club Anderlecht.
Newcastle have been interested in the 20 year-old 13 times capped Serbian International striker all season, and he had a great season in Belgium scoring 28 goals in 51 appearances for Anderlecht.
Aleksandar Mitrovic – travelling to Newcastle tomorrow?
Note that this all according to Alfredo Pedulla who follows Roma moves closely.
Aleksandar Mitrovic however, has made no secret of the fact that Roma are his first choice, and he will get European football at the Italian club – which is what he wants if he leaves Anderlecht.
That’s what he had last season, when he was outstanding in Europe for his Belgium club.
However a late entry on Pedulla’s web-site tonight suggests that Roma will indeed make a bid for the Anderlecht striker – so exactly where that leaves the meeting with Newcastle tomorrow we have no idea.
This is what Alfredo has just put on his web-site:.
Roma did not give up on Aleksandar Mitrovic.
After seeing the move by Newcastle, who had scheduled a summit tomorrow in England, after they reached an agreement in principle with Anderlecht, the Giallorossi have announced an official offer that will come between tonight and tomorrow morning.
Roma want Mitrovic, irrespective of possible developments for Dzeko, and things are about to move in a very real way.
The other complication is that Roma’s first choice striker target was thought to be Manchester City’s Edin Dzeko – which is why Pedulla has mentioned their pursuit of Mitrovic is independent of them also wanting Dzeko.
As we said, this is all from one journalist in Rome, and we don’t know whether Mitrovic will be in Newcastle tomorrow for that meeting – but we doubt it.
With Newcastle reported to be close to signing Georginio Wijnaldum for around €16M (£11.2M) from PSV Eindhoven – it does look like Newcastle are finally waking up in this transfer window.
So that’s at least some good news.
