We had said in earlier article today that we would all see just how close Newcastle are to a deal with Georginio Wijnaldum, and whether it was possible to get him on over the next 24 hours.
That was whether he went on the training camp with the PSV squad today – and news on the PSV web-site that he is indeed part of the group that left Holland today for Switzerland.
Georginio Wijnaldum – off to Switzerland for training camp
The PSV web-site has just announced the training camp and simply listed the players in the squad, and they included Georginio.
This doesn’t mean that Newcastle cannot still sign the player of course, but it does mean we are not going to sign him in the next 24 hours, and it’s doubtful he can now be signed before Newcastle leave on Saturday for their tour of the USA.
It’s also is possible that the player could be withdrawn from the training camp at any time, and fly into Newcastle to take a medical and sign a deal.
But the negative is that it now gives time for other clubs to come in for the Dutch International – one of them being Everton, who are understood to be keen on the midfielder.
So unfortunately, once again it looks like Newcastle are simply not moving with enough speed and decisiveness in this summer’s transfer market.
Comments welcome.

Comment #81Why do you think this Cathro has signed. I think it’s because his family want to be near home and geographically we are perfect for that, but on the other hand he is young and ambitious and surely must have been given some kind of assurances, he’ll have seen Carver and Stone commit career suicide by getting mixed up in a downward spiral.

Comment #83And for good measure, here’s Mark Douglas’s take on things – probably closer to reality than various websites.

And still things drag on! How long has Charnley known we’re in the US next week? And still he takes things to the wire by starting his shenanigans late!!

You think Churners has a wife. I reckon he spent the entire week in the Blue Oyster club with Jeff from Benwell.

Actually Wijnaldum didn’t return from Aruba until Sunday evening.

And don’t forget he’s probably bought a table lamp. You know the sort, a boat in the shape of a clog, with sails. It’ll look nice on his telly and’ll go nicely with the picture of the Asian girl whose eyes follow you everywhere, above the fireplace.
Oh forgot the picture if the little Mexican kid with a tear in his eye – he’s a Toon fan exasperated with Charnley!

Brilliant day – sun got out late afternoon and evening – yet had a bloody great thunderstorm back in Prudhoe. Don’t know if there is a portal linked to this sight where I can upload a couple of images.
Result we lost by two wickets – never mind – good crack after the game in the Castle (pub) –
and a joke from Hoc – Articulated lorry carrying 10,000 terrapins over-turned in Ashington – roads closed for ages – caused Turtle mayhem!!

He seemed fairly chipper in the circumstances, I thought.
Maybe they confiscated his phone for the good of his health.
I hope he’s just resting up and let’s us know when he can.

Comment #101After reading Cathros interview the other day in which he said “after the USA tour we’ll know better what we need” I’m inclined to beleive there’ll be no signings until they come back.

Comment #106Honestly cant fathom out some people on this blog.
They swallow the shite that is fed to them by the club, the Papers and Sky and the blogs Ed himself.
We are not going to sign any superstars because we wont pay the going rate.
Players will not come to this shit set up we have.
They must think we are proper mugs us geordies.
The sad fact is a lot of us are and buy the tickets to watch a team that does not compete to win anything, just survive in the P.L.
Sorry i forgot Ashley has changed has’nt he.He is going to lead us to 8th in the league,WHOOPPEE.

Comment #107BandB – I’ve just had a quick look at the minutes -will have to read it later to let it digest. But I too homed in on the “mistakes” exchange and the clubs reply in particular and thought immediately there is no change at all being displayed. Question in effect blanked.

Comment #108No doubt the fans who were desperate to get Anita, Riviere and Cabella over the line are the same ones complaining about the hold ups now.
