Newcastle Closing In On Top Striker Deal

9:09 am, Thursday, July 9th, 2015 by Dr. Ed Harrison · 17 Comments

There’s a report in Belgium today that Newcastle now seem to be in pole position to sign Anderlecht striker Aleksandar Mitrovic, and that follows news last night in Italy that Newcastle have even agreed a €16M (£11.2M) fee for the 20 year-old striker.

Roma seems to be the striker’s preferred destination, but it seems they want Manchester City’s Edin Dzeko as their first choice.

Aleksandar Mitrovic – Newcastle getting close to deal

That report in Italy suggested that Aleksandar would even be traveling to Newcastle today to discuss the move,  whereas a report in sudinfo.be today  in Belgium suggests Newcastle are closing in on the striker, with FC Porto also very keen on the striker.

FC Porto are trying their best to persuade the 20 year-old Serbian International striker to join them, but the Portuguese club don’t seem to have the funds to meet the transfer fee Anderlecht want.

Newcastle do, and it even seems the Magpies may now be willing to shell out big fees this summer to get their transfer targets.

But Newcastle still have a job on their hands to persuade the youngster to join them  – since he wants to play in the Champions League, if he does leave Anderlecht.

Mitrovic has been very impressive in Belgium, and last season he hit 28 goals in 51 appearances, and in the last two seasons, since signing on from Partizan,  he has scored 44 goals in 90 total appearances – so he knows where the net is.

While at Partizan he scored 18 goals in 42 appearances, and he left the club when he was only 18.

The 6ft 3ins talented striker already has 13 full caps for Serbia.

He would be a terrific signing for Newcastle, if we can get this youngster on Tyneside, but it will not be easy.

Comments welcome.

Just woke up and opened newsnow.

This is exactly the time when I want to see articles about Wijnaldum being on Tyneside for a medical and Mitrovic being spotted on Newcastle airport.

    Where are the reports?

Wijnaldum would be great to have but it seems like we’ll blow our whole transfer kitty on him and a striker and that’ll be it

Hopefully the reasno charney is taking so long is that he’s trying to get Willems thrown into the deal!

It looks like things are heating up:

These two players seem to be very very good. Deadline for both Greece (to avoid Grexit) and NUFC (fun trip to the USA) the same, ie. this weekend.

We’ve been concentrating on a CF, correct; right after (or preferably now too), sign a CB.

Then, an exciting winger, a LB and CL here we come.

    On other articles:

AP going after Austin / Cabs? Who’s notes did he steal before he left 🙂

MA hands off approach? On contraire, I think. In any case, if this spree fails again like it dramatically did last year (remember, last year was our biggest outlay in the history of the club – of course balanced a bit by players sold) when AP spoke of (yes) CL or thereabouts and no more excuses, then I can see the bigger heads (scout, Dir.) rolling.

If Wijnaldum is Sissokos replacement then surely it’s back to square one. Why aren’t we being linked with a top quality CB.

  • 6 cyprus // Jul 9, 2015 at 9:21 AM

    who’s= whose

  • 7 cyprus // Jul 9, 2015 at 9:22 AM

Sissoko stays as part of the CL push

  • 8 Toonfan8 // Jul 9, 2015 at 9:23 AM

Wijnaldum is not Sissokos replacement, I think we will use Sissoko on the right side, not in CM…something like this
    aarons/cabella…de jong….sissoko
    ……….anita…………wijnaldum……

    Would love to get
Def: Willems, Van Dijk and Byram (as backup RB). Still need another CB (either Kaboul or Caulker would be decent and probably cheap enough)

    Mid: Wijnaldum and Will Hughes

For: Austin/Mitrovic and Pato. Bamford on loan too would be great

    Giving us
    Starting XI
    Krul
Janmaat – Van Dijk – Colo – Willems
    ———-Sissoko—–Colback————
    —Wijnaldum–De Jong–Pato——
    —————–Austin——————

    Backup XI
    Darlow
    Byram—-Lascelles—-Caulker—Haidara
    ———-Hughes——–Tiote—————-
    –Perez——–Cabella———-Aarons—–
    —————-Bamford———————–

Has anyone watched that De Jong character? Is he any good? When I saw him (yes, those few minutes), he seemed a weaker Nolan model, though can’t judge, given the man’s health troubles.

We will push for our chsmpions league. Its our trophy this season.

  • 12 hibbit // Jul 9, 2015 at 9:27 AM

two great players IF we get then………..but we all know the back 4 are the problem not even any rumours about cb

  • 13 Toonfan8 // Jul 9, 2015 at 9:33 AM

this season maybee we will see the best from our players, we have solid group, but we have to add to it…Wijnaldum,Mitrovic and Matip…and we will see what else we will need
    GK:Krul,Darlow,Elliot —sorted
    CB:Collocini,S.Taylor,Good,Lascelles,MATIP
    LB:Haidara,Dummet
    RB:Janmaat,Satka
    CM:Anita,Tiote,Colback,Abeid,WIJNALDUM
    AM:De Jong,Vuckic,Marveaux
    RW:Sissoko,Perez
    LW:Cabella,Aarons
    SC:Cisse,Riviere,MITROVIC
    thats 27 players and 24 already here…
    Obertan,Ferguson,Gouffran,Williamson—SM decision
    Kemen,Armstrong—on loan
so we dont need that much players in, we just need quality…and with 3 top quality players and maybe back up RB and loan Satka to championship, we will have strong and health squad, with a lot of competition…

    Tsunki.

If NUFC last season were a ‘rag bag collection of bargain buys’ managed by an ‘inept’ manager (your words – previous post), and in 9th. Place in the Prem. when he left, I am wondering where you think a half decent manager would have taken this motley crew. Top four maybe ?

  • 15 Jib // Jul 9, 2015 at 9:41 AM

Sometimes a story elsewhere can lead you to the the truth of what you are interested in.
In this case bookies have dramatically reduced the odds on Charlie Austin going to Crystal Palace . Not because they have info from Palace but because they know NUFC are about to land Mitrovic.
So when it all comes down to it Charlie wasn’t striing us along , rather the reverse , he was our plan “B”.

  • 16 toonincheek // Jul 9, 2015 at 10:27 AM

    JiB –

I think bookies respond far more to bets being
    placed than any ITK rumours.
They have to ensure bets are spread around
at the right odds to give them a profit.

“Mitrovic has been very impressive in Belgium”?
No he hasn’t. He was the top scorer in Belgium, but that’s not saying much. He’s lazy, slow, arrogant.
But he’s young. He can still improve, although I think Austin is a much better option.

    From a Belgian Newcastle supporter.
