Next 24 Hours Vital For Georginio Wijnaldum Deal

8:04 am, Thursday, July 9th, 2015 by Dr. Ed Harrison · 25 Comments

No fee has been agreed between Newcastle and PSV for their captain Georginio Wijnaldum, and terms have not been agreed with the player either, but the talks are still said to be at an advanced stage, and Steve McClaren is keen to get him to Newcastle so he can show him around Newcastle’s impressive facilities.

Georginio Wijnaldum

Georginio Wijnaldum – close to a deal

No doubt Newcastle’s Dutch stars Tim Krul, Daryl Janmaat, Siem de Jong and Vurnon Anita will be keen to persuade him to join Newcastle too.

One indication whether we can sign him within the next 24 hours is whether he goes with the PSV squad to a training camp in Switzerland this morning.

If the deal is not near to completion, it’s understood that PSV would want to take him along, since he only reported back to training on Monday and is working on his fitness.

Newcastle are said to have bid €16M (£11.2M),  but PSV want a little but more and the wages shouldn’t be a problem – so it is close.

Newcastle obviously would like him on the plane to the USA on Saturday, so that’s an incentive to get the deal tied up in the next couple of days.

The Chronicle is also reporting Newcastle are close to another signing – and maybe that could be Anderlecht striker Aleksandar Mitrovic, Marseilles midfielder Florian Thauvin or even 21 year-old Albanian defensive midfielder Ergys Kace who plays in Greece for PAOK.

There was news last night that Newcastle have even agreed a €16M fee for the Anderlecht striker.

It’s good if we can get a couple through the door this week – but the big priority remains center-backs and strikers.

A couple of signings will do wonders to lift the mood on Tyneside, which seems almost too negative at the moment.

But fans are also very concerned after the complete nightmare of the second half of last season.

Comments welcome.

Due to the influx of psychedelic Dutch imports NUFC colours have changed to:

I see it more as Pardew had no clue how to rotate a squad, instead of playing the odd one here and there they were all dumped in the deep end.

The season we finished 5th we used the least amount of players in the league, why not blood the odd one here and there?

The stop start nature of the league and euro games must have been a nightmare, imagine grafting your socks off to get 5th and Europe then to not get a game.

The first team players probably looked and thought why bother trying for Europe we aren’t going to play. The way Pardew dealt with the squad had as much or more affect than not strengthening.

If the squad was managed properley it would never have suffered like it did.
Dropping a first teamer and giving someone a chance would have kept the squad on it’s toes, instead Pardew treat the squad like two different teams.

The fall from 5th to 16th can’t be explained away as not strengthening, the gap between the two is to much.

Wat is Carr and Tealady doing? We need only 3 players. Its like we r going to buy 12.

    Matip, Wijnaldum and Mitrovic.

    1. Mitrovic – Deal already agreed in May. I think the player is waiting for a better club.
    2. Matip – Reports that Carr has been in Germany for 3 weeks now. Wat is he doing there?
    3. Wijnadum – Charnely wen to Holland to do wat exactly?

What’s Charnley up to? He’s offered €16m, they want a little more?

    Ffs give them it!

What’s the saying, spoiling the ship for the sake of a penn’orth of tar?

Lose him for the sake of a million Euro? Stupidity!

After agreeing a fee, PSV came back and upped the ante and we felt that asking for an additional batch of 24 kingsize family pack of salt n vinegar chips was taking things too far.

So we have now moved on to our next target. We are arranging a board meeting to discuss this target during the 2nd week of august.

    Lee Charnley

    Never heard of it

Under the new coaching staff, they have realised that we have 2 new CB’s on the staff
As they can’t score goals ,Riviere and Goofy will be moved to the defence ,with a saving of £20m,SM on a bonus immediately
As for Mitrovic and Winaljdum ,they will wait till the last minute hoping for a price reduction ,as nobody else linked with said players
Austin at the moment ,as a bricklayer ,is as we speak building a massive wall on the line
    Nobody is getting over that

I’d imagine we must have a reputation all over Europe by now as a “difficult” club to deal with. We obviously haggle unreasonably, dither about, and generally make things more complicated than they need to be. No wonder we can’t sign anybody. I’ll bet a lot of clubs wouldn’t even take Charnley’s calls as he is clearly a tyre-kicker and basically a waste of space in the scheme of things.

Ah, the extra crisps are just pushing things too far.

Yup, it’s time to walk away!

  • 22 Toonfan8 // Jul 9, 2015 at 9:09 AM

It is a slow start today, but if Mitrovic and Wijnaldum will be in Toon today for personal terms and medical and will be announced tonight, I will get drunk…

  • 23 swemag // Jul 9, 2015 at 9:10 AM

Just woke up and opened newsnow.

This is exactly the time when I want to see articles about Wijnaldum being on Tyneside for a medical and Mitrovic being spotted on Newcastle airport.

    Where are the reports?

  • 24 expatmag // Jul 9, 2015 at 9:13 AM

It will be interesting to hear if Wijnaldum is on that plane to Switzerland or not. If he is on the plane, I would say we arent signing him.

  • 25 The overrated Frenchman // Jul 9, 2015 at 9:55 AM

The fact that Charnley hasn’t shown enough intelligence to read the mood of the people and get this transfer done quickly underlines the ignorance he has consistently demonstrated. Only one person in the world would have him in this job, and sadly that’s the one who counts. Ashley out. Charnley out. Carr out.
