One Player Wants To Join Newcastle, Another Hesitant

9:26 am, Saturday, July 11th, 2015 by Dr. Ed Harrison · 17 Comments

Newcastle should be able to announce their first capture of the summer today with Georginio Wijnaldum expected to sign along the dotted line, after completing his medical yesterday.

Georginio has been seen smiling in Newcastle, and it’s pretty obvious he wants to sign on at Newcastle.

He was Dutch Player Of The Year last season – and is one terrific player who can both score and create goals.

Georginio Wijnaldum wants to join Newcastle

It’s a bit of a coup for Newcastle, and he will definitely improve the side next season, and will join the growing list of Dutch players at the club who already include Krul, Janmaat, Anita and Siem de Jong.

The other player we are (possibly) expected to sign is 20 year-old Anderlecht striker Aleksandar Mitrovic, who Graham Carr has been tracking all season.

His agent Pini Zahavi arrived in Newcastle yesterday afternoon, but the deal has been delayed – and it seems they are waiting for another club to make an offer.

Aleksandar Mitrovic – his agent is in Newcastle

Porto and Roma are the two clubs who have been interested in him,  with Porto struggling to pay the fee and Roma seeming to have Manchester City striker Edin Dzeko as their first choice.

And news yesterday was that Roma officials are flying into Manchester today to try to seal the deal for the Bosnia and Herzegovina striker.

Mitrovic seems to be waiting for a club to come in who plays in the Champions League – and it seems that if that doesn’t happen Newcastle would be the team he joins.

That’s not the best of circumstances to sign somebody – but perhaps if we can still get him through the door the fans could make him feel very happy and appreciated on Tyneside.

Certainly he’s one of the best young strikers in Europe as we pointed out on what he’s already achieved in his short career.

Newcastle could still sign Aleksandar but he doesn’t seem – at least from the outside – to be showing the same keenness to sign for Newcastle that Wijnaldum is.

Steve McClaren last night also hinted there are other players Newcastle are also trying to sign.

Comments welcome.

    Talking Centre backs
I don’t think Cabella has a thigh strain saw him training 2 days ago running freely . I think it is a straight swap with Marseilles Nicolas N’koulou .
Cabella went back to Corsica for his hols and got homesick (the PL is tougher than he thought).
I also have reason to think we will get Andre Pinto from Braga he knocked back a good move to Fiorentina – why ?

Cabella picked up the injury in last nights game, so two days ago he would have been fine.

Sorry didn’t realise he picked it up last night
I’m seeing spooks behind every door
His agent is in town and I’m getting paranoid.
Did hear he was homesick like.

The biggest surprise yesterday was lecturer of modern languages and all round clever guy jeff from benwell, sorry, I mean Jib not getting involved with the Wijnaldum pronunciation debate. Most definitely because you can’t google it and he hasn’t got enough data for you tube when he’s not sitting in the Red Lion on a €1 a pint + free wifi.

It’s definitely a worry if he only comes here because of lack of options!

…i hope regardless that we will go for one more forward! Don’t want to put all the apples in one basket!

No, I made the mistake. He didnt play because he picked it up earlier. You might be right, or he might have picked it up between the time you saw him running and last night

Looks like this Mitrovic dosn’t want to come here and is only sniffing around because it is a five year deal and we are the best of the rest.

Pay the extra and get Austin.

It is not unknown for NUFC to claim an injury to a player when a transfer is imminent

I have seen loads of videos of wijinaldum recently yes majority are his best bits without showing his bad bits but all his goals mainly seem to come on the counter resulting in beating one defender or just the keeper.

When hes signed we need a player like mitrovic or dost to hold the ball that little bit to give him time to get into stride and run with the ball i can see him scoring 10-15 goals this season, His finishing is very good but all right foot with the odd header and left foot goal so thats two areas he could improve but im happy once hes signed the ……….

Interesting to hear Bigi was playing last night, always thought he had some potential to come good. Did Curtis Good play any part?

it seems we were all getting ahead of ourselves yesterday, so deperate were we for some good news!

I really hope Mitrovic still happens, though now even Wiji seems to be dragging on too long now to feel entirely confident.

Wiji, Mitrovic and any of N’Kolou, Veltman or Matip arriving, with willo, saylor, colo and Obertan, along with Woodman snr all exiting stage left would paint a very happy and hopeful picture.

We should tell him to sign today if he won’t we should move for austin !

  • 16 lochinvar // Jul 11, 2015 at 10:58 AM

Mitrovic needs to sign.somebody needs to show him the maths. char key are you up to it in negotiating ? Someone like Porto might have
6 games in the qualifying section of the Chsmpions League possibly against mixed opposition doesn’t compare to a full season in the Prem against at least 4 Champions League sides ( City, Arsenal, Chelsea , Man Utd ) – veritable mini Champions League on its own – and thats 8 top matches , add Spuds and Liverpool and you have 12 top games. Then getting into next seasons Champions League with NUFC is your bonus

Hate to say I told you so to be honest mitrovic is a bad apple and doesn’t want to play for us ,……. Next
