Vurnon Anita knows new signing Georginio very well, being just couple of years older than him and he has played on the same sides at International level for Holland, particularity at the youth levels and also played against him in the Eredivisie.
Vurnon Anita in action in last game against West Ham
Georginio cost around £14.5M (probably €20M which is £14.2M), so it does seem Newcastle are willing to spend some big money this summer, and Wijnaldum is a great signing for us.
This is what Vurnon Anita has said on the Newcastle web-site:
“Gini is a very good technical player, someone who can score goals and who will be a good guy for the group, too.”
“I’ve played with him for the national team at youth level, and a lot against him.” “He is fast, can play one-against-one and is a very intelligent footballer.”
“He has experience, has played in some very big games already even though he is only 24 and can have a big impact on our squad, taking our level higher.”
“We have signed a player who was the captain of PSV and this is a great move for both him and Newcastle.”
“It’s a key signing for the Club and shows that we want to have a much better season than last year.”
“Gini is a quality player and someone who can have a great impact on the group.”
It certainly seems Gini can really help Newcastle next season, and it will also be interesting to see if McClaren can get the best out of Anita.
He is a good technical player who played well in the last few games of the season when it really mattered, but has had a tough time of it since he signed on in the summer 2012 from Ajax.
That was particularly true in the 2-0 win against West Ham in that final game, when he looked great and was second in our Man of the Match poll only to the phenomenal Jonas Gutierrez – who had a career game the very last time he played for Newcastle United.
We hope for a much better season coming up than the nightmare we had to endure last season.
