This Is A Great Move By Newcastle

Vurnon Anita knows new signing Georginio very well,  being just couple of years older than him and he has played on the same sides at International level for Holland, particularity at the youth levels and also played against him in the Eredivisie.

Georginio cost around £14.5M (probably €20M which is £14.2M), so it does seem Newcastle are willing to spend some big money this summer, and Wijnaldum is a great signing for us.

This is what Vurnon Anita has said on the Newcastle web-site:

“Gini is a very good technical player, someone who can score goals and who will be a good guy for the group, too.”

“I’ve played with him for the national team at youth level, and a lot against him.” “He is fast, can play one-against-one and is a very intelligent footballer.”

“He has experience, has played in some very big games already even though he is only 24 and can have a big impact on our squad, taking our level higher.”

“We have signed a player who was the captain of PSV and this is a great move for both him and Newcastle.”

“It’s a key signing for the Club and shows that we want to have a much better season than last year.”

“Gini is a quality player and someone who can have a great impact on the group.”

It certainly seems Gini can really help Newcastle next season, and it will also be interesting to see if McClaren can get the best out of Anita.

He is a good technical player who played well in the last few games of the season when it really mattered, but has had a tough time of it since he signed on in the summer 2012 from Ajax.

That was particularly true in the 2-0 win against West Ham in that final game, when he looked great and was second in our Man of the Match poll only to the phenomenal Jonas Gutierrez – who had a career game the very last time he played for Newcastle United.

We hope for a much better season coming up than the nightmare we had to endure last season.

Comments welcome.

    Jay photo,

A lot of banter last night about Cebella, I remember me and you both cautious before he signed, you were saying he needs too much time and me saying a gust of wind would have him over.

What do you reckon, will he adapt?

Anita will cover Janmaat. if needed, no problems there, Colback covers Hadaira, we need a proper CB, get him in.

How about swapping Scott Dann for Colo?

Before everyone starts getting carried away there is absolutely loads of work to do yet. The squad has been deliberately kept short of about five quality players since the Championship, we almost put that right when the five came in that January, a lot more have left than have been brought in since then. Even last season since our last signing, we have seen, five first team players leave, you could say Guti and RTaylor aren’t good enough but they must have been better than what we’ve got as they both featured regularly towards the end last year. Santon and Mbwia would have also have gotten plenty of game time had they been here. We need at least another four first team ready signings and a back up for Jaanmatt.

    Check,
Having cover is not good enough, we need a specialised RB in the mould of Haidara to keep Jaanmatt on his toes, we had Bigi replace him on Friday night ffs.

Anita is adaptable enough to cover full backs, its something he has always done. Not ideal but not a disaster, we should go for broke and spend 30million on two CB’s, that would do me.

Jail, as you say there is still a lot of transfer work to do.

Even you must admit, things are looking up?
