Newcastle Lose Patience – Mitrovic Decision Within 48 Hours

9:55 am, Tuesday, July 14th, 2015 by Dr. Ed Harrison · 161 Comments

There is a report in the La Derniere Heure ( in Belgium that Newcastle are giving Aleksandar Mitrovic an ultimatum and he has 48 hours to decide whether he wants to join Newcastle.

If he says no then Newcastle will move ahead quickly for other striker targets.

aleksandar mitrovic hands out wide.

Aleksandar Mitrovic – ultimatum

Two players who could be leaving Anderlecht imminently are Mitrovic and Chancel Mbemba, and the team photographs will be taken today both with and without those two players.

Both players will also not be included in the squad to play two friendlies this week in Heist-op-den-Berg against Lazio on Wednesday and Sunday.

The report says Newcastle are well aware that Mitrovic still has his doubts about Newcastle, and really wants to join a club that plays in the Champions League, but they are giving him 48 hours to make a decision.

Newcastle had the family over to look around Newcastle, St. James Park and the training fields over the weekend, and his father Ivica is the one likely to make the decision.

This is some of the report in La Derniere Heure translated from the French:

¨Newcastle are well aware of the doubts of the player and his entourage (no European Cup, difficult season last year), but quickly want to know if they accept the offer or not.¨

¨Newcastle will give 48 hours for the Serbian to decide, after his father and younger brother returned to Belgrade to  reflect  on the Newcastle offer.¨

Aleksandar is being offered a five year contract at Newcastle that more than doubles the wages he gets at Anderlecht, but he could still turn down Newcastle.

Porto are waiting in the wings,  and he also seems to prefer the weather in Spain and Rome (Roma are also interested) to that in Newcastle.

If that’s an issue for him, then he shouldn’t sign for Newcastle.

This is a good and sensible move by Newcastle, because if Aleksandar  doesn’t want to come, there’s plenty of work to be done to bring in two new strikers within the next three weeks, so we have them before the Premier League season starts.

Now for the wait to see what he decides.

If we had to hazard a guess, we’d say he will turn Newcastle down and take his chances on a Champions League club coming in for him.

But we’ve been wrong before ……

Who Should Be Newcastle's Captain Next Season?

I think there’ll be more signings on the way. But only the Bare Minimum – if that.

  • 2 Charlie in the Gallowgate // Jul 14, 2015 at 10:02 AM

    Previous thread
I think it will take a while to change the mindset of a lot of players at the TOON (and a few more signings to help) as they have been indoctrinated in the Pardew style for to long.

As with the new philosophy/mindset I would change the captain not sure who maybe Colback

If he does not want to come – tell him to stick it and move on and quickly

Skunki…thanks for ruining a perfectly fun word play!

    …I owe you one 😉

  • 4 corkypants // Jul 14, 2015 at 10:03 AM

Good idea this ultimatem its dragged on long enough can anyone think of any other targets we could move for apart from Dost/Austin

  • 5 thegaffer // Jul 14, 2015 at 10:03 AM

NUFC cannot miss out on this guy.. for their own sake.

  • 6 Mr Magpie // Jul 14, 2015 at 10:04 AM

If we are supposedly willing to pay 10m – 12m for Thauvin or Townsend then surely Shaqiri being 23 & available at 12m is someone we should be looking to get in.

Priority is cb & strikers but it would appear they are looking at wide players also.

  • 7 YouCouldn'tMakeItUp // Jul 14, 2015 at 10:05 AM

47 and half hours too long imo. He has had plenty of time to decide, as has his family. Roma, to thier credit, did exactly the same.

  • 8 Jib // Jul 14, 2015 at 10:07 AM

The real problem is now , any other striker that we get will have the mindset —————-
“They really wanted AM , I’m second or third choice”

  • 9 YouCouldn'tMakeItUp // Jul 14, 2015 at 10:08 AM

    Mr M

Agree we should be in for Shakira Shakira, if we are after a wide player. Still see FWs and CBs as a priority, though.

  • 10 Slank // Jul 14, 2015 at 10:08 AM

I would imagine Anderlecht also want him to make up his mind as they will need a replacement and their season kicks off earlier than ours.

  • 11 Mr Magpie // Jul 14, 2015 at 10:08 AM

Think Mitrovic will hopefully sign in the next few days. Porto don’t want to pay the asking price & Roma seem to be prioritising other options.

West Ham are apparently offering Jarvis, Nolan & money for Austin according to the daily mail.

  • 12 hibbit // Jul 14, 2015 at 10:09 AM

mr mag……the back 4 are the priority or we will be shipping goals again if we let 3 goals in we have to score 4 to win we can not do that game after game

  • 13 carl nufc // Jul 14, 2015 at 10:09 AM

Newcastle clearly want a big target man upfront hence Mitrovic..

Would anyone be happy if we were to put a £6 million bid in for Andy always injured Carrol ??

  • 14 ToonTiger // Jul 14, 2015 at 10:11 AM

Sell Colo to San Lorenzo for a nominal fee. Buy two new in, keep one and sell one of either Saylor or Willo too.

Times they are a changing indeed. Hopefully for the better. Rumours are great but remember, not gospel until they’ve got their shirt shot done.

  • 15 cestriasteve // Jul 14, 2015 at 10:13 AM

Can someone do a quick recce and analysis over which champions league teams:

    A, would want him/need him

B, which ones can afford him or can afford to take the gamble.

  • 16 cyprus // Jul 14, 2015 at 10:13 AM

    Mitro sign or… next!

    Andros… top, sign.

    Saylor… fit?!!

Captain… why everyone voting for Jan?!! What leadership attributes did he show? Either Colo or that perma croc dude, if he is as good as some say here. To me, really, the real leader hasn’t arrived yet.

  • 17 corkypants // Jul 14, 2015 at 10:14 AM

Carl nufc NO NO NO a perma croc is not what we need

  • 18 cestriasteve // Jul 14, 2015 at 10:14 AM

    Carl nufc,

Andy Carol, just No, let’s not even discuss it.

  • 19 sing in the corner // Jul 14, 2015 at 10:15 AM

I wouldn’t be frightened to have him somewhere down the list, and your 6million figure would be ok by me. Lots of stumbling blocks though, like pay as you play deal for instance, which he would probably baulk at, as well as a fraction of the wages he has been on. So can’t see it being attractive to either party

  • 20 Bambams // Jul 14, 2015 at 10:17 AM

This was on Twitter earlier. I am not sure if an ultimatum has been given. We have caressed his family and offered a good deal. His agent had allegedly stated he was signing a five year deal, the kid has already ‘allegedly’ stated the Prem is his favourite league and Toon favourite team (on YouTube allegedly)…
I think it could be work permit…
Think I read something yesterday he has played in 60% of last dozen international games. Sure I read that somewhere.
Anyone shed any light on my suggestion. ..would this be accurate.
Simply can’t see us changing tact and now stamping our feet demanding he sign. It’s not like he has been sighted at another club.

  • 21 Jib // Jul 14, 2015 at 10:18 AM

This is why the Mitrovics are stalling
There is a complication with the Dzeko deal for Roma something about the City Sterling purchase having changed things with regard to FFP rules.

  • 22 carl nufc // Jul 14, 2015 at 10:18 AM

haha ok lets just leave the Andy Carrol well alone.
for what its worth i always felt he just give that extra 10% playing for us, id take him back at that price..

    if not Mitrovic then who?

  • 23 Jail for Ashley // Jul 14, 2015 at 10:19 AM

People keep talking about this new era, great if we see some change. Let’s understand though if it wasn’t for the Pardew Out crew/gang/mob we would be going in to this season on the back of finishing tenth last time round with Churners telling the FF what a marvellous season we’d had.

  • 24 Offkey // Jul 14, 2015 at 10:19 AM

Ferdinand has come out and said we have not bid for Austin. Stating that we may have enquired with the chairman early on but thats it.

I reckon Austin is a a plan B or C purchase……with Mitrovic and Bas Dostin there somewhere.

  • 25 Jail for Ashley // Jul 14, 2015 at 10:19 AM

Oh, with Pardew and Carver at the helm.

  • 26 The overrated Frenchman // Jul 14, 2015 at 10:21 AM

That’s the right call on Mitrovic. You can’t expect a club who has made a firm offer to wait indefinitely in case something you fancy a bit more comes along. Yes or no. It ain’t that hard. This guy can play, but there are other fish in the sea. Almost hoping we don’t get him now.

  • 27 Ron Knee // Jul 14, 2015 at 10:23 AM

Lilongwe didn’t anticipate any major problems over the work permit.

  • 28 Slank // Jul 14, 2015 at 10:25 AM

  • 30 The overrated Frenchman // Jul 14, 2015 at 10:27 AM

If Chelsea made him an offer you could bet the work permit thing would disappear as an issue.

  • 31 Bambams // Jul 14, 2015 at 10:28 AM

Well if it’s not work permit problems he obviously doesn’t want to sign so I will accept we need to move on.
Looked a handful of a striker. Shame

  • 32 sing in the corner // Jul 14, 2015 at 10:29 AM

    The overrated

Yep I agree, it looks on the surface like the club’s genuine intent to land someone, and saying we’ve indulged you enough now, its take it or leave it.

  • 33 Lilongwe Geordie // Jul 14, 2015 at 10:29 AM

As Ron Knee says, I don’t see the Visa being an issue for him.

    Lilongwe Geordie // Jul 13, 2015 at 4:57 PM

RE Work Permit application, from a legal firm dealing with Football and law….

“In order to establish on an initial application that the player is an international player of the highest calibre the following criteria must be met:

A player must have player for his country in at least 75% of its competitive A team matches of which he was available for selection, during the two years preceding the date of the application

The player’s country must be at or above 70th place in the official FIFA world rankings when averaged over the two years preceding the date of the application

What is meant by a competitive A team international match?

A competitive A team international match is one of the following:

    World Cup Finals game

    World Cup Qualifying group game

Football Association confederation tournament game, for example:

    The FIFA Confederations Cup

The UEFA European Championships and Qualifiers

The African Cup of Nations and Qualifiers

The Asia Nations Cup and Qualifiers

    The CONCACAF Gold Cup

    The CONCACAF The Copa Caribe

    The CONMEBOL Copa America

    The OFC Nations Cup and

    The UNCAF Nations Cup

Who has to submit the application?

It is the responsibility of the club that wishes to sign a player to make an application for a work permit on behalf of that player. In most cases the club will have agreed a contract with the player with the final stumbling block being the work permit.

It is therefore the job of the club to provide written confirmation of the player’s international appearance record of the proceeding two years highlighting the competitive A matches.

This information should be obtained from the National Governing Body which that player represents and then provided to the UK Border Agency who will not be able to make a decision until this is provided.

What happens if a player has been injured?

If a player has been injured during this time period meaning that he has been unable to represent his country this will be taken into consideration when assessing the application. If this is the case the club will need to provide supporting evidence.

What happens if a player has not been granted a work permit?

If a football player does not fulfil the above criteria and has his application for a work permit turned down there is the possibility for a club to appeal the decision. This appeal will be heard by an independent panel and it will be the job of the panel to assess the following things:

To consider whether the player is of the highest calibre

To consider whether the player is able to contribute significantly to the development of the game at the top level in the UK

It is often the case that when clubs sign young players who have not had the opportunity to play for their national side due to their age the work permit will be granted due to the ability and potential shown by that player in their fledgling career.”

He has played in 6 of their last 9 competitive matches in the last 2 years and being on the bench for 1. He missed 1 as he was busy winning the Under 21 Euro’s with Serbia for the first time in their history, the final game he missed was through suspension.

No doubt at all he would qualify for a work permit in my opinion.

  • 35 jayphoto // Jul 14, 2015 at 10:31 AM

Aren’t Newcastle favourites to sign Chancel Mbemba aswell?? Not seen much of it reported aside from some article saying that we were investigating the validity of his age though….

  • 36 Lilongwe Geordie // Jul 14, 2015 at 10:32 AM

Other people have stated that the issue could be visa related for his family if they wanted to move with their son. Tourist visas aren’t an issue but longer term could be.

On mainland Europe however, the EU lifted the need for Visas for Serbian nationals in Schengen countries back in 2009. There was talk of the UK doing the same, but in 2013, the Home Office announced that visas would remain in place.

  • 37 musomag // Jul 14, 2015 at 10:32 AM

Definitely a great move with Mitrovic, in fact we should have given him only 24hrs to sh#t or get off the pot.
Andy C? Great when he was here but forever grabbing bad headlines and always broken.

Sir Les said we haven’t even bid for Chas Austiin yet, time to slap £15m on the table and test his resolve to stay down south. What are we waiting for?

It would be nice for us to hedge our bets with players for a change rather than the other way around

  • 38 The overrated Frenchman // Jul 14, 2015 at 10:34 AM

  • 41 Ron Knee // Jul 14, 2015 at 10:36 AM

Italy and Portugal have signed up to the Schengen Agreement. The UK so far hasn’t.

  • 42 beermonkey // Jul 14, 2015 at 10:36 AM

    who is Chancel Mbemba

  • 43 Tsunki // Jul 14, 2015 at 10:37 AM

The visa restrictions aren’t the desk breakers imo. Players move about the continent pretty freely, it’s a sophisticated process and these lads are up to all the tricks. I agree with Slank actually the key to all this prevarication may lie with Mitreblocks current club who will tire pretty quickly as they have a squad to settle in themselves. There could be a bit of pushing as well as jumping soon

  • 44 Lilongwe Geordie // Jul 14, 2015 at 10:38 AM

Not for Mitrovic. Serbs have free movement in the Schengen zone which contains Italy and Portugal.

  • 49 jayphoto // Jul 14, 2015 at 10:43 AM

pretty sure we haven’t heard or seen the last Andy Carroll to Newcastle article this summer….
Personally got a small feeling he’ll come in after Mitrovic on loan….
Mitrovic has been told he will be the 1st choice striker, can’t see Austin coming in as second choice. Pretty sure Bilic doesn’t want Carroll, theyre bidding for strikers right and left… nowhere will buy Carroll because of the injury record… a loan back to his home club to try and repair his reputation would probably suit all parties.
Coming in as a second choice striker to a mitrovic would probably see Carroll play the level of minutes his body will allow him to play without breaking (25/30 mins most games, maybe 12-15 starts)
On a side note about Carroll, I’ve mentioned before I had a mate that did conditioning under Allardyce. He labelled Carroll (and viduka) as the worst trainers hes worked with. Said Carroll had a good attitude but no pain threshold and low determination and heart to push through the wall. Also said he couldn’t understand how carroll jumped so high as his leg muscles weren’t that strong and he struggled with the weight training because of it. Reckons the conditioning is definitely linked to the injuries.

  • 50 Lilongwe Geordie // Jul 14, 2015 at 10:43 AM

It looks more to me like the 2 clubs haven’t actually agreed a fee, as reported by a number of outlets over the last few days.

Zahavi has been quoted saying terms on a 5 year deal have been agreed and his family have visited/are still in town. The fact Mitrovic hasn’t travelled suggests that the fee hasn’t been agreed, but Anderlecht have allowed talks to happen as they expect it to be resolved.

If there is an ultimatum, it could well be to Anderlecht to accept our bid, which is less than they want, but more than others are willing to pay.

  • 51 The overrated Frenchman // Jul 14, 2015 at 10:43 AM

@beermonkey – Mbemba is an African defender plays for Anderlecht! Can play right back, left back and centreback. Really good player actually, just a bit dodgy because hes Congolese, the birth details aren’t hardly stellar from there. His world cup 2014 registration he put he was born in 1994 but for his 2012 AFCON he’s stated he was born in 1991…. also, he looks about 35….

  • 54 Ron Knee // Jul 14, 2015 at 10:47 AM

  • 57 Lilongwe Geordie // Jul 14, 2015 at 10:51 AM

Not sure on his family, but I saw somewhere that Zahavi was still in town yesterday. I think he is also the agent for Cabella though, so that could be another reason why he is here – and I’ve read he is Thauvin’s so lots of angles on that.

It just would be a very strange move for an agent to announce that terms have been agreed when they haven’t.

  • 58 Mr Magpie // Jul 14, 2015 at 10:53 AM

Yeah defence is definitely the priority, two new first choice Cb’s in to allow Coloccini & Williamson to leave. Keep Taylor, Lascelles, Good & Dummett as cover & bonus of homegrown.

Then rb cover & a decent lb to challenge Haidara for the position are all needed to shore up our defence which for me is by far our weakest area of the team.

Mitrovic in & another if Cisse was to be sold, otherwise I’d be content to start with Mitrovic, Cisse, Perez, Riviere & Armstrong as strikers as long as they sorted out the defence.

  • 59 Slank // Jul 14, 2015 at 10:55 AM

    Dragon64 @ 47

I disagree that he maybe taking the Michael.

He is only trying to get the best deal for himself and perhaps his family but there maybe factors (as Jib @ 21 pointed out) outside of his or his agents control.

At his young age and coming to the toughest league in the world and possibly one of its most demanding clubs which has struggled in recent years does require a lot of thought. He is probably a ‘big fish in a small pond’ where he is now but many before him have failed to make the grade moving to the UK in a more demanding circumstances.

It was easier for Wijnaldum as he speaks good English and has many Dutch colleagues already at the club to ease him in. I’m sure there are no Serbs at the club. And I’m not sure he speaks English.

  • 60 jazzyp // Jul 14, 2015 at 10:56 AM

Edin Dzeko’s move to Roma from Manchester City is being delayed by a disagreement in the transfer fee, according to Gazzetta dello Sport.

Roma are reportedly offering 15million euros plus 3million in add-ons, but City will not settle for less than 25million.
This maybe why there is an hitch in the Mitro saga .
Although would be disappointed if we were to lose out on the kid. I think we are doing the right thing ingiving him an ultimatum, so we can move on to our next target

  • 61 jayphoto // Jul 14, 2015 at 10:57 AM

Wouldn’t actually harm Mitrovic to stay at Anderlecht another year… he’s hardly running out of time age wise..
Someone mentioned on here that Anderlecht had exactly this same problem with his family when they signed from Partizan.
Ultimately I think if a club they wanted was going to come in it would have now. No doubt his agent Zahavi has reached out to the clubs his client actually wants to sign for and found theres no deal to be have. The Portuguese clubs are all spent out. The big 4 Spanish clubs aren’t interested and no one in Italy or Germany that could afford him wants him. Very little money in Italian and Spanish football outside of the champions league clubs at the moment, read that even Juventus are only buying if they sell.
Unfortunately for Mitrovic, he is like prince charming and Newcastle are like a girl at 2am in the Bigg market. All the pretty lasses have gone home, its us or nothing!

Mitrovic speaks part English on the youtube video when he translates from Serbian who his favourite club is and which league he wants to play in.

  • 66 Lilongwe Geordie // Jul 14, 2015 at 11:00 AM

No idea really. He is one of the most influential though, so undoubtedly will have some, and would likely be able to sway other agents as well if he is one of NUFC’s preferred agents to deal with.

    No worries mate.

  • 67 anthc // Jul 14, 2015 at 11:01 AM

I don’t think this deal is gonna happen. I’m pleased the club has gave the deadline so we can look elsewhere. If it’s taking this long to decide I personally think he doesn’t want to come. Look at finish, credit to him. He wanted to come and was here sharpish no asking his dad to go and scrounge a free luxury trip. The club on this occasion have done everything they can. If he wants to go and play in poor leagues just to play European football as opposed to the best, most competitive league in the world (not to mention the coin) then let him. I think sometimes these young players get a bit praise then loose their head up their own arse. He’s still only 20 and has a lot to prove imo.

I’m not exactly an expert in this field, but how exactly can it be visa problems is he’s supposedly already visited newcastle & the stadium. He wouldn’t be allowed in the country if it was visa problems. I think its the dzecko deal that’s holding things back

  • 78 Lilongwe Geordie // Jul 14, 2015 at 11:10 AM

If Liverpool want Sissoko, then get Markovic as part of the deal if he wants some company. Cracking player, and still just 21. Would provide a very good option as a left sided forward.

  • 83 Tsunki // Jul 14, 2015 at 11:13 AM

Shadow I think it’s work permit that’s the issue. A visiting visa is easy, it’s very time limited.

  • 84 mactoon // Jul 14, 2015 at 11:14 AM

If this is true it’s a good ting as the longer we wait the more chance other targets will move. We have offered the club a deal, shown the players family around the ground and this has gone on for a while and the player has still not shown any indication he wants to move.

Yes he is very young to move to a foreign country but if he is willing to move to Roma he is capable of moving to the UK. His father has to report back and the player needs to make a decision.

    Good call Newcastle

  • 85 jayphoto // Jul 14, 2015 at 11:14 AM

@Lilongwe – yeah really think Liverpool need to give Markovic time given his age and settling issues etc Attributes wise he’s got everything to be a huge player!
Can’t believe they’ll let Brendan waste any more than 12m on sissoko…. who ever is in charge of transfers at Liverpool need shooting! Think Mo will be off though, the signing of Wijnaldum, and de jong being fit aswell as Perez and cabella preferring the #10 role mean we’re covered there.
I quite like sissoko wide right but he’s effort/vision/technical skill lets him down when he plays further back in midfield.
Still, he might get Liverpool the odd win against arsenal…

“A player must have player for his country in at least 75% of its competitive A team matches of which he was available for selection, during the two years preceding the date of the application

The player’s country must be at or above 70th place in the official FIFA world rankings when averaged over the two years preceding the date of the application”

Unfortunately those details are now out of date. For the 2015/16 season the required percentages will be as follows:

30% for National Associations ranked between 1 and 10 of the FIFA Aggregated World Rankings

45% for National Associations ranked between 11 and 20

60 % for National Associations ranked between 21 and 30

Liverpool have signed Milner and Firminho. I can’t imagine either of them missing out, and then you have Coutinho as well. I hope Markovic leaves, and would definitely take him here.

  • 90 Mister Tuff // Jul 14, 2015 at 11:21 AM

Taylors revellation about training/coaching answers quite a few questions which have been posed on here over the last few years.
Comments like -“what the hell are they being coached” and the most vented was about the corner routines.
From what he says it looks as if the coaching has been in a 1980s’ -1990’s time warp. Simple things missing on the field of play – reluctance to overlap, not moving forward as a unit etc come to mind.
From what we’ve heard about ball work by the new regime and Taylors comments indicated to me that the previous lot were not coaching properly/and or not using modern coaching methods.
So with these changes being reported, it is a strong indicator that Wally and his team -seem to breathing some fresh air, modern fresh air, into the training.
Could the previous old fashioned methods be responsible for players not playing to the best of their abilities – I am slowly moving to believe that being Pardewed was a reality and not a fanciful myth.

  • 91 Tsunki // Jul 14, 2015 at 11:25 AM

Mr T I think someone pointed out earlier (graeme?)that there were quite a few of us pointing out that the best money spent ( pound for pound eh?) would be on new coaching and manager setup. The height of Anti-Pardew hysteria was punctuated by calls for a clearing out of the jurassic coaching and managerial setup. Mclaren may not have been top of our list but hopefully it will reveal itself as decent money spent.

Yeah, I had seen there was plans to change them but hadn’t heard anything more.

Having had a quick read through that though it states that any competitive match that he was unavailable for would be excluded from the calculation. He was suspended for one of their games so he would qualify as he has played in 6 of the other 8 competitive matches during the period. Matching the 75% required by someone from Serbia (43 in the world)

  • 96 jayphoto // Jul 14, 2015 at 11:29 AM

@Lilongwe – Godknows how Brendan will play,i I thought Firmino was a #10. As is Coutinho. whereas Milner and Henderson would be starters in midfield.
Hoping he thinks sissoko is a Vieira style player and buys him for that.
Im just not a sissoko fan, I can’t see him succeeding in a possession based side unfortunately

  • 97 kevymartins // Jul 14, 2015 at 11:29 AM

Liverpool won’t go for Sissoko. Liverpool is ready to pull of the deal of the window in selling sterling for £49m and bidding £42m for Reus. Also looks like Benteke could be going their way with United going for Cavani. Why would you wanna see sissoko go anyhow has be arguably our best player I say keep him. Colback sissoko Tiote and Gini in the same Midfield looks very tasty.

  • 98 Lilongwe Geordie // Jul 14, 2015 at 11:31 AM

Nor can I. His touch is poor, his passing poor and his tackling non existent. When the ball is in the air he is 6ft odd standing, 5ft4 jumping. All he has is running with the ball, and that is all well and good if you are able to do something with it, but more often than not, he isn’t.

  • 99 Lilongwe Geordie // Jul 14, 2015 at 11:32 AM

I agree Liverpool are unlikely to go for Sissoko, but mainly because he isn’t very good.

I will not turn a blind eye. I do have the benefit of size/height which assists. I will not partake in passive complicity as some do.
However, the era from when I was raised a tosser/loudmouth was labelled as such.
In this era the tosser/loudmouth are just the same as the tosser/loudmouth of yesteryear and as such I will not afford them any considerations of political correctness. Call a spade a spade and be done.

  • 102 jayphoto // Jul 14, 2015 at 11:36 AM

@Lilongwe – completely agree. His vision is pretty atrocious and his goal and assist stats considering he player near on every game just behind the striker are shocking!
At Toulouse he played as a shield the back 4 player and for France he plays right side of a midfield 3. He’d be a good player in a deep lying counter attack team but in a possession based attacking side he’ll need to improve ten fold. He showed next to no desire or effort last season. I know he scored against west ham but he played pretty poorly that day too. Not sure I can stand another season of hearing him dream of Arsenal

  • 103 kevymartins // Jul 14, 2015 at 11:38 AM

@lilongwe are we talking about the same Sissoko that took Cabayes national team spot? The same sissoko who gives 100% and runs more than anyone on the pitch? The same sissoko that made Ashley Cole look like a Sunday league player? The man is a beast and so far has done more for the club than what De Jong or Colback has. Not to mention he is only 25 why on earth would you want rid of him are you nuts or just deluded?

  • 104 Tsunki // Jul 14, 2015 at 11:39 AM

Yeah I don’t get the sissoko folklore. I recall advocating space to let him run through with the ball, which we hardly ever did sadly, but I remain appalled by his woeful first touch and his complete lack of any impetus to tackle anyone.

Levy it’s not that he’s useless just that he’s not that good and resembles those ponies that only do one trick. A cross field diagonal run. No robust challenges. No neat one touch passing, can’t trap a bag of cement. He runs and runs. And runs.

  • 108 Tsunki // Jul 14, 2015 at 11:43 AM

Sorry Kevy. Also saying he’s done more than colback and DeJong doesn’t really float the old boat for me 🙂

  • 109 Lilongwe Geordie // Jul 14, 2015 at 11:44 AM

If the Sissoko you are talking about gave 100% then no, we can’t be. If Sissoko was giving 100% all season then he is even worse than I thought!

Sissoko got less assists and less goals than Colback. His pass completion was lower, and his passes attempted were lower. His tackles attempted were lower than Colbacks tackles won. De Jong managed about an 2 hours of football and got a goal. Sissoko played over 3000 minutes and managed just 4.

Sissoko plays in a totally different position from Cabaye for France, so clearly did not take Cabaye’s place. As I have said, he can run with the ball but can do very little else.

Sissoko and Ashley Cole? Once, 18months ago? Howay, is that all there is?

  • 110 kevymartins // Jul 14, 2015 at 11:44 AM

  • 111 Blofal // Jul 14, 2015 at 11:45 AM

I must say I was dead against McClaren coming in. But so far he has ticked all the right boxes.

More importantly things are being leaked out at how Pardew and Carver used to run things. ie not using the ball when back to pre season. Even Saylor mentioned training used to be “run run run” and that they have gone back to basics.

Plus he has communicated very well. Here’s hoping he proves me wrong.

On the Brightside – Wijnaldum is a proper player. Great attitude, great ability! Has the potential to be the best player we’ve signed since Gary Speed or Shearer! No coincidence we’ve paid a big amount for him, really think he’s got the whole package!

  • 114 Lilongwe Geordie // Jul 14, 2015 at 11:47 AM

Yes, we need rid of others as well. No argument there. Sissoko is overrated and doesn’t want to be here. Will be no great loss.

The Sissoko who captained Newcastle in the derby at the Stadium of Light, playing central midfield and failed to win a tackle all game. That is his 100%?

  • 115 Lilongwe Geordie // Jul 14, 2015 at 11:48 AM

  • 116 Blofal // Jul 14, 2015 at 11:50 AM

As for Mitrovic the twitter feed Soccer Sauce which has appeared to be accurate to date states that both Porto and Roma are contacting him and his agent daily but neither has had a bid accepted by Anderlecht.

This is why he is stalling and Newcastle officials are frustrated because they wanted him on the US tour.

So good move by the club to give an ultimatum if thats true. Mind we do have trouble convincing players to come here. This worries me because he sounds a bit like Loic Remy who did not give a toss about our club.

The problem is can we find a decent striker that actually wants to play for us and take pride in the shirt?

  • 117 BandB // Jul 14, 2015 at 11:50 AM

  • 118 Tsunki // Jul 14, 2015 at 11:51 AM

Kevy @110 yes sissoko should be last on that list. But I feel that whatever shape team sissoko was purchased for never happened. Maybe mcclaren will fashion a more suitable side to showcase his abilities. Maybe we have seen a demoralised player, like a lot of others under the previous setup. But right now, if he got transferred I would not bat an eyelid.

  • 119 Ron Knee // Jul 14, 2015 at 11:51 AM

Will he be dreaming of Arsenal this season, though? If he wants to play for his country (I assume he does) then he’d do better from his perspective to get more guaranteed match time with us.

Lilongwe what are you even talking about Sissoko would walk into near every team in our league including teams like Spurs. He is an all round good player and is still learning his trade. If I had to choose him or Cabaye or Henderson or Carroll I would chose him every day of the week. So you on here saying we should just sell Sissoko sure why not he can’t do this or that. Why not just sell him and keep Anita who you must think is better than him then.

Bloody auto spell Carroll= carrick … Tsunki what do you think McClaren is doing now? He is adjusting the players so they adapt to the way he wants them to play. He will fit in he has bags of talent. People seem to forget the state of our club last season without Sissoko we would have been relegated no doubt. Steve will know exactly what to do with Moussa you have to give people a chance Theirry Henry was once a RB.

  • 124 jayphoto // Jul 14, 2015 at 12:03 PM

@Ron Knee – ironically I’m not sure with a fully fit squad that Sissoko will be even in the first 11 here!
I think de jong starts when fit. Wijnaldum definitely starts and I’d place Colback ahead of sissoko. We also have Anita and Tiote who are more than capable. If McClaren plays a 4-3-3 or a 4-2-3-1 as he has done in recent years that leaves sissoko on the bench competing with tiote , colback and anita for the 3rd central spot. If we play possession football Anita and Colback have the edge on sissoko and tiote for technical ability

Sissoko when at Toulouse was a beast of a player, breaking up opposition attacks then running box to to box with that ridiculous engine on him to join in attacks.

If Mcclaren can somehow get him to mould his game to play a more contained centre midfield role alongside Wijnaldum they could become an immense pairing in centre midfield.

I’m not saying we don’t need a centre back, we do, and Rudiger would also be a good buy. If we are to believe what we have been told, there should be enough funds to buy both, with still some to spare. 12k for each ? Only because of the premium clubs have to pay for British players. Not surprised about Vuckic. I like him. Seen him for reserves a couple of times and he was head and shoulders ahead of everyone on the field.
Simple fact is though he hasn’t taken his chances. He under performed on both his loan spells to Cardiff and then to Rotherham.
No doubt the coaching in the last 5 seasons didn’t help him, I reckon the premier league is just to quick for youngster as slow as Vuckic. A move to a southern European league would probably see him have a quite successful career. Reminds me slightly of Hugo Viana who was also 5 yards too slow

@Sazzer – Talksport had a Portuguese correspondent on the other night talking about the big 3. He said Sporting were done, Benfica actual have to sell to balance the books and are counting on big money for Gaitan which would then give them money to spend and that Porto will only spend now what they bring in in sales as they have committed to a huge outlay in wages for Casillas and Imbula (who also cost a fair bit|) and that they were more likely to bring in a south American striker than mitrovic as Anderlecht want double want Porto will pay.
Don’t know much about Roma but have to think if they were going to sign him they’d have shown their hand when his family were wondering round st james’…..

Jail the relentless…it’s a good thing I didn’t say the Dutch had invisible Gs and Rs then…

…much like you were hearing Ys when we had a construction EI or IJ seeing as that’s a letter by itself in Dutch and in your language (not mine) would be the equivalent to AY in SAY (again in your language) and not mine and not in German.

So no I won’t take lessons from you! I wrote the phonology of Wijnaldum and I stand by that. Quote me correctly or sh.. u.! Thank you!

Any progress on the Mitrovic deal?

Jazzy…that makes for alot of travelling going to both away and home games mate. Do you travel with somebody?

forget about giving the striker 48 hours to decide just pull out of the deal the club has done more then enough to get him to sign so bollox it, Its defenders we need ship a few out like colo, taylor and that donkey Williamson, god I could play better then him with even one leg, need at least 2 defenders, 1 striker, a good winger and see if things go ok until January
