Newcastle Lose Patience – Mitrovic Decision Within 48 Hours

There is a report in the La Derniere Heure (DH.be) in Belgium that Newcastle are giving Aleksandar Mitrovic an ultimatum and he has 48 hours to decide whether he wants to join Newcastle.

If he says no then Newcastle will move ahead quickly for other striker targets.

aleksandar mitrovic hands out wide.

Aleksandar Mitrovic – ultimatum

Two players who could be leaving Anderlecht imminently are Mitrovic and Chancel Mbemba, and the team photographs will be taken today both with and without those two players.

Both players will also not be included in the squad to play two friendlies this week in Heist-op-den-Berg against Lazio on Wednesday and Sunday.

The report says Newcastle are well aware that Mitrovic still has his doubts about Newcastle, and really wants to join a club that plays in the Champions League, but they are giving him 48 hours to make a decision.

Newcastle had the family over to look around Newcastle, St. James Park and the training fields over the weekend, and his father Ivica is the one likely to make the decision.

This is some of the report in La Derniere Heure translated from the French:

¨Newcastle are well aware of the doubts of the player and his entourage (no European Cup, difficult season last year), but quickly want to know if they accept the offer or not.¨

¨Newcastle will give 48 hours for the Serbian to decide, after his father and younger brother returned to Belgrade to  reflect  on the Newcastle offer.¨

Aleksandar is being offered a five year contract at Newcastle that more than doubles the wages he gets at Anderlecht, but he could still turn down Newcastle.

Porto are waiting in the wings,  and he also seems to prefer the weather in Spain and Rome (Roma are also interested) to that in Newcastle.

If that’s an issue for him, then he shouldn’t sign for Newcastle.

This is a good and sensible move by Newcastle, because if Aleksandar  doesn’t want to come, there’s plenty of work to be done to bring in two new strikers within the next three weeks, so we have them before the Premier League season starts.

Now for the wait to see what he decides.

If we had to hazard a guess, we’d say he will turn Newcastle down and take his chances on a Champions League club coming in for him.

But we’ve been wrong before ……

I think there’ll be more signings on the way. But only the Bare Minimum – if that.

I think it will take a while to change the mindset of a lot of players at the TOON (and a few more signings to help) as they have been indoctrinated in the Pardew style for to long.

    Captain
As with the new philosophy/mindset I would change the captain not sure who maybe Colback

    Mitrovic
If he does not want to come – tell him to stick it and move on and quickly

If we are supposedly willing to pay 10m – 12m for Thauvin or Townsend then surely Shaqiri being 23 & available at 12m is someone we should be looking to get in.

Priority is cb & strikers but it would appear they are looking at wide players also.

47 and half hours too long imo. He has had plenty of time to decide, as has his family. Roma, to thier credit, did exactly the same.

The real problem is now , any other striker that we get will have the mindset —————-
“They really wanted AM , I’m second or third choice”

Agree we should be in for Shakira Shakira, if we are after a wide player. Still see FWs and CBs as a priority, though.

I would imagine Anderlecht also want him to make up his mind as they will need a replacement and their season kicks off earlier than ours.

Think Mitrovic will hopefully sign in the next few days. Porto don’t want to pay the asking price & Roma seem to be prioritising other options.

West Ham are apparently offering Jarvis, Nolan & money for Austin according to the daily mail.

Would anyone be happy if we were to put a £6 million bid in for Andy always injured Carrol ??

Sell Colo to San Lorenzo for a nominal fee. Buy two new in, keep one and sell one of either Saylor or Willo too.

Times they are a changing indeed. Hopefully for the better. Rumours are great but remember, not gospel until they’ve got their shirt shot done.

I wouldn’t be frightened to have him somewhere down the list, and your 6million figure would be ok by me. Lots of stumbling blocks though, like pay as you play deal for instance, which he would probably baulk at, as well as a fraction of the wages he has been on. So can’t see it being attractive to either party

This was on Twitter earlier. I am not sure if an ultimatum has been given. We have caressed his family and offered a good deal. His agent had allegedly stated he was signing a five year deal, the kid has already ‘allegedly’ stated the Prem is his favourite league and Toon favourite team (on YouTube allegedly)…
I think it could be work permit…
Think I read something yesterday he has played in 60% of last dozen international games. Sure I read that somewhere.
Anyone shed any light on my suggestion. ..would this be accurate.
Simply can’t see us changing tact and now stamping our feet demanding he sign. It’s not like he has been sighted at another club.

This is why the Mitrovics are stalling
There is a complication with the Dzeko deal for Roma something about the City Sterling purchase having changed things with regard to FFP rules.

People keep talking about this new era, great if we see some change. Let’s understand though if it wasn’t for the Pardew Out crew/gang/mob we would be going in to this season on the back of finishing tenth last time round with Churners telling the FF what a marvellous season we’d had.

Ferdinand has come out and said we have not bid for Austin. Stating that we may have enquired with the chairman early on but thats it.

I reckon Austin is a a plan B or C purchase……with Mitrovic and Bas Dostin there somewhere.

That’s the right call on Mitrovic. You can’t expect a club who has made a firm offer to wait indefinitely in case something you fancy a bit more comes along. Yes or no. It ain’t that hard. This guy can play, but there are other fish in the sea. Almost hoping we don’t get him now.

RE Work Permit application, from a legal firm dealing with Football and law….

“In order to establish on an initial application that the player is an international player of the highest calibre the following criteria must be met:

A player must have player for his country in at least 75% of its competitive A team matches of which he was available for selection, during the two years preceding the date of the application

The player’s country must be at or above 70th place in the official FIFA world rankings when averaged over the two years preceding the date of the application

What is meant by a competitive A team international match?

A competitive A team international match is one of the following:

    World Cup Finals game

    World Cup Qualifying group game

Football Association confederation tournament game, for example:

    The FIFA Confederations Cup

The UEFA European Championships and Qualifiers

The African Cup of Nations and Qualifiers

The Asia Nations Cup and Qualifiers

    The CONCACAF Gold Cup

    The CONCACAF The Copa Caribe

    The CONMEBOL Copa America

    The OFC Nations Cup and

    The UNCAF Nations Cup

Who has to submit the application?

It is the responsibility of the club that wishes to sign a player to make an application for a work permit on behalf of that player. In most cases the club will have agreed a contract with the player with the final stumbling block being the work permit.

It is therefore the job of the club to provide written confirmation of the player’s international appearance record of the proceeding two years highlighting the competitive A matches.

This information should be obtained from the National Governing Body which that player represents and then provided to the UK Border Agency who will not be able to make a decision until this is provided.

What happens if a player has been injured?

If a player has been injured during this time period meaning that he has been unable to represent his country this will be taken into consideration when assessing the application. If this is the case the club will need to provide supporting evidence.

What happens if a player has not been granted a work permit?

If a football player does not fulfil the above criteria and has his application for a work permit turned down there is the possibility for a club to appeal the decision. This appeal will be heard by an independent panel and it will be the job of the panel to assess the following things:

To consider whether the player is of the highest calibre

To consider whether the player is able to contribute significantly to the development of the game at the top level in the UK

It is often the case that when clubs sign young players who have not had the opportunity to play for their national side due to their age the work permit will be granted due to the ability and potential shown by that player in their fledgling career.”

He has played in 6 of their last 9 competitive matches in the last 2 years and being on the bench for 1. He missed 1 as he was busy winning the Under 21 Euro’s with Serbia for the first time in their history, the final game he missed was through suspension.

No doubt at all he would qualify for a work permit in my opinion.

    Bambams,
Other people have stated that the issue could be visa related for his family if they wanted to move with their son. Tourist visas aren’t an issue but longer term could be.

On mainland Europe however, the EU lifted the need for Visas for Serbian nationals in Schengen countries back in 2009. There was talk of the UK doing the same, but in 2013, the Home Office announced that visas would remain in place.

Definitely a great move with Mitrovic, in fact we should have given him only 24hrs to sh#t or get off the pot.
Andy C? Great when he was here but forever grabbing bad headlines and always broken.

Sir Les said we haven’t even bid for Chas Austiin yet, time to slap £15m on the table and test his resolve to stay down south. What are we waiting for?

It would be nice for us to hedge our bets with players for a change rather than the other way around
