Club Atlas 2 Newcastle United 1 – Video Highlights

1:51 pm, Wednesday, July 15th, 2015 by Dr. Ed Harrison · 75 Comments

Here are the highlights of last night’s game at Miller Park which we lost 2-1 to Club Atlas.

You can quickly get to the goals or any part of the game by moving the mouse under the video and get the time bar along the bottom – the goals are after 10 minutes, 16 minutes and 45 minutes.

Club Atlas hit the cross-bar with a deflected shot after 21 minutes 35 seconds.

It seems to start at 2-0 but you can click back to the start quite easily.

Notice before the penalty kick is taken after 10 minutes how Siem de Jong goes over and has a chat with Jamaal Lascelles who had given it away – good leadership – that’s why he was captain of Ajax.

    Ashley Out!

  • 2 ilovetoon8788 // Jul 15, 2015 at 1:59 PM

apparently we are in talks with Ever Banega. and Mitrovic deadline is this Sunday.

    same old nonsense every week?

  • 3 jazzyp // Jul 15, 2015 at 2:02 PM

Anderlecht face KSK Heist in a pre-season friendly this evening (7pm).Be interesting to see if Mbemba & Mitrovic will take any part.

  • 4 ronaldo aarons // Jul 15, 2015 at 2:04 PM

i think we’ll get mitrovic to be honest. but i would like it if we didn’t get a second ccentre forward of this type. i would prefer a second to be a more mobile and pacey player who can player on the wing if needed. Someone like paul georges ntep and breel donald embolo.

Nice to hear you enjoyed it mate.

Funny one on colo, it was said he was injured before the game. Strange that he was involved with the warm up.

  • 6 Toonfan8 // Jul 15, 2015 at 2:08 PM

Mitrovic would be great to have here, it is what we need, strong CF, dangerous in the penalty area, but can hold up ball and bring others to play.

On Banega, he is a good player, I liked him at Valencia, but now I didnt see him enough last year so I cannot judge him…

  • 7 optimistic prime // Jul 15, 2015 at 2:09 PM

I read N’tep is injured, out until middle of September if I rember right.

  • 8 lesh // Jul 15, 2015 at 2:09 PM

    Off topic but:

    Liverpool want Benteke;

    Villa have a £32m buy-out clause in his contract;

    Liverpool aren’t willing to pay that – they believe he’s overvalued;

They dug in for £49m for Sterling – a one season wonder!

What world does that club live in? Are their players super-special?

  • 9 Toonfan8 // Jul 15, 2015 at 2:09 PM

Colo can play one season, but he need strong and quick CB next to him, Abdennour or Rudiger my two favourites, but cant see them coming here…but who knows I couldnt see Wijnaldum come here and he is now ours

  • 10 Rotonda heights // Jul 15, 2015 at 2:11 PM

seems to be a lot of negativity about banega but he is a cracking player, top drawer.

  • 11 jazzyp // Jul 15, 2015 at 2:12 PM

On 19 February 2012, however, he prolonged an existing spell on the sidelines – he had recently returned from a knee injury – after he was run over by his own car. As a result, he fractured his left ankle and broke the tibia and fibula in his left leg, according to Valencia team doctor Enrique Gastaldi.[12] He required ankle surgery, going on to miss the remainder of the campaign;[13] the club only confirmed that the player had been hurt in an accident involving his own car after leaving training, however Spanish media had reported that the injury occurred when he failed to put the handbrake on at a petrol station and, after the car moved, his leg was caught between the wheel and the curb.Banega sounds a right bright spark !!

  • 14 jazzyp // Jul 15, 2015 at 2:17 PM

Agree mate…..played well in the Copa America, just don’t let him take a penalty.
I know we don’t neccersarily need any more midfielders, but this guy is way above any Colback and Tiote as he often plays in that holding role.
9 mill is a snip for this guy

  • 15 swemag // Jul 15, 2015 at 2:30 PM

On the game last night, good to see de Jong getting stuck in and involved. Though we did not sore a second one I think there was enough in there to think it can get good.

Some people were saying we are playing an unknown team. Liga MX is not shit. In Latin America the best leagues are Argentina, Brazil and MX.

As much as people would like to think that European leagues are just a class apart this is simply not true. Further Latinos love to come up against European teams and will do their best to show that Europe is not any better than them.

Last point, if we are supposed to play the ball out of the back four I know I would much rather prefer Colo to Williamson. One is a footballer, one is something else that I am unable to define.

  • 16 magpiesi // Jul 15, 2015 at 2:39 PM

I was impressed with the positional side of things from goal kicks.

Colback dropped deep to get ball cb split to edge of area Anita went to centre circle area waiting for a pass ( think that’s where wijnaldum will play so he can run with the ball)

Full back pushed up to h’way line supporting sissoko and Goufran with two options either side with de Jong just behind cisse central.

The last 15 minutes we were keeping the ball well even Williamson was doing short passing and even did a dummy to go past a player.

With everybody pushed up we still had two cb and two dcm behind the ball to stop the counter. We had width and at times 5 players at edge of box or higher. Last season we had 1 or 2 unless a set piece in the oppositions box.

  • 17 Jib // Jul 15, 2015 at 2:45 PM

At Feyenoord Leroy Fer and Gigi were known as the “Droomduo” the dream team.
QPR will let Fer go for £7million which apparently we have no problem with.
    (renigen means reunite)

  • 18 King Colback // Jul 15, 2015 at 2:45 PM

It’s cheered me up no end to see that Sacremento beat Sunderland

  • 19 swemag // Jul 15, 2015 at 2:57 PM

It might have been a Droomduo there, but it seems in the PL Leroy Fer is a Dooms player, always getting relegated. 🙂

Stay away from us or third time lucky? …after Norwich and QPR that is.

  • 20 King Colback // Jul 15, 2015 at 3:05 PM

    Who is Garath McCleary?

  • 21 Jib // Jul 15, 2015 at 3:14 PM

If Fer is playing for us then at least Colo won’t be turning his back on his shots.

  • 22 magpiesi // Jul 15, 2015 at 3:16 PM

I wouldn’t mind fer he’s strong and good at driving on with the ball from cm a step up from Anita IMO. Also that lens that’s ment to be going to sunderland he’s not to bad either but his wages will be sky high. Get Ron vlaar then it smc Dutch revolution..

  • 23 bladeuser // Jul 15, 2015 at 3:17 PM

    Quote s mac
i am very happy with the squad
    what a numpty
so he is happy with willo gouffy and all the other shitty players
well good luck all you season ticket holders have a good relegation scrap of a season

  • 24 jazzyp // Jul 15, 2015 at 3:20 PM

would sooner have Banega than Fer lads to be honest. Roughly the same price….Full Argentinian international, and runs himself over with his own car.

What more do you want lol !!

  • 25 curmon // Jul 15, 2015 at 3:26 PM

There are three words in last nights match report that should alarm every fan hoping for better things this coming season , They are :- WILLIAMSON, GOUFFRAN, OBERTAN.

How the hell are these people even being considered as a part of the first team squad.

  • 26 King Colback // Jul 15, 2015 at 3:31 PM

    De Boer what a twat

  • 27 magpie6699 // Jul 15, 2015 at 3:31 PM

bladeuser – bit harsh to say the least. He’s mentioned that we are looking to sign players. I’m sure Mac thinks he’s got several decent players and overall a decent squad but his quote doesn’t mean “everything is perfect”, does it? What’s he going to say -” I like some of our players”? “I’m very happy with the squad apart from one or two deadbeats”?

  • 28 hibbit // Jul 15, 2015 at 3:32 PM

jazzyp…fer has a lot of pluses /prem player /knows are other dutch players /settled in the uk ….colo took a full season to adapt to the prem banega could be the same

  • 29 jazzyp // Jul 15, 2015 at 3:32 PM

Once replacements are in these guys will hopefully be shipped out to pastures new.
Only seen the highlights last night, but after 10 mins I had seen enough of Willo’s incompetence tolast me another season

  • 30 jazzyp // Jul 15, 2015 at 3:35 PM

yeah i’ll give ya that mate. but Fer is never a 20mill player which is what EVER went for a few years ago. Watched all the copa America, And the guy looked quality. And as I have said already would be a bargain at 9 mill.

  • 31 WWSBRD // Jul 15, 2015 at 3:40 PM

We are stacked in the CM region so unless McClaren is thinking of completely rebuilding the midfield (he’s not as he has a big enough job to do with this squad) or Sissoko and Tiote are leaving then Benega isn’t likely to be a true rumour imo

  • 32 bladeuser // Jul 15, 2015 at 3:41 PM

s mac should keep his trap shut until these supposed players are signed and if he has to comment on the squad
yes say it is ok but we def need to strengthen at the back and up front
    say it how it is

  • 33 hibbit // Jul 15, 2015 at 3:42 PM

jazzp the problem is finding buyers for them boro asked about willo they were told 2m they never came back

  • 34 Mister Tuff // Jul 15, 2015 at 3:42 PM

de Boers’ brother – his assistant was slagging us off last week. Probably a touch of mind games for the first game. Bit pathetic though.

  • 35 hibbit // Jul 15, 2015 at 3:44 PM

jazzyp have QPR put a price on fer ??

  • 36 Jail for Ashley // Jul 15, 2015 at 3:45 PM

    Mind games, first game ?

  • 37 jazzyp // Jul 15, 2015 at 3:47 PM

Would you pay 2 mill for Willo ??
I think we would do well to get back what we paid for him if I am honest mate. Same with Gouffran, Another waste in our starting line up that offers nothing to the team.
I agree we will have trouble getting shut of these players if the board are not willing to take a loss, because there is no way we will make a profit on these players.

  • 38 jazzyp // Jul 15, 2015 at 3:48 PM

    According to Jib…..7 mill

  • 39 davis_toons // Jul 15, 2015 at 3:49 PM

  • 45 Jib // Jul 15, 2015 at 4:06 PM

Atlas played their last fixture 3 weeks ago . Since then they have been touring the States . Most of our lads have been on beaches for 2 or 3 weeks . There is a huge disparity in fitness levels between the 2 teams.
They are no mugs they play in front of 60,000 every home game.

We have played the strongest team first ,when we are at our weakest , unfortunately.

    Couldn’t agree more bud !

  • 51 BandB // Jul 15, 2015 at 4:26 PM

    I don’t follow this.

It seems their season runs over more or less the same period as ours and that they are also playing pre-season friendlies.

  • 52 Munster Mag // Jul 15, 2015 at 4:33 PM

You cudnt make it up….by way of demonstrating what I meant in our discussions over the last few days, please see posts from Bladeuser and Davis Toons.

  • 53 Munster Mag // Jul 15, 2015 at 4:33 PM

De Boer , what a numpty.

  • 54 YouCouldn'tMakeItUp // Jul 15, 2015 at 4:36 PM

Now THAT is moaning. No argument here.

  • 55 YouCouldn'tMakeItUp // Jul 15, 2015 at 4:38 PM

I am, however, starting to get that nagging doubt. SM seems to be edging towards “our defense is good enough”. I hope i am wrong.

  • 56 GeordieTwo // Jul 15, 2015 at 4:39 PM

Aarons only worth 700K? Probably because of all the injury problems. Gouffy is worth 6 Aarons apparently!! He must be pleased considered the season he’s just had with us…

  • 57 GeordieTwo // Jul 15, 2015 at 4:40 PM

Fong the entire club!!! Before the season begins!!! It will make the supporters feel better. A public fonging!! Right in front of the ground when they get back home…Harrumph.

  • 58 YouCouldn'tMakeItUp // Jul 15, 2015 at 4:41 PM

But thats a good thing. We could swap old goofy for 7 aaronses…

  • 59 GeordieTwo // Jul 15, 2015 at 4:42 PM

A top, top striker like Adam Armstrong worth only 530K? Mike was planning to get 10M for him!!! This will be so upsetting for wor Assley…. 🙁

  • 60 Thump // Jul 15, 2015 at 4:42 PM

Some people take friendly results far too seriously. It’s about fitness and McClaren getting his style of play into the lads.

Christ, the seasons we finished fifth, we won 2, lost 2, drew 1 and the other was abandoned. The following season, where we were almost relegated, we played more pre-season games, won 3, drew 3 and lost 2. Oh, and we won a pre-season trophy.

It’s a friendly. An exhibition match. Stop treating it as a bloody derby loss.

  • 61 Thump // Jul 15, 2015 at 4:43 PM

@G2: I’d take £6 for him at the moment.

    Not million, just £6.

  • 62 GeordieTwo // Jul 15, 2015 at 4:43 PM

That’s a good thought YCMIU. Can we get a sort of mixed basket of players instead? One Aarons, a Mitrovic, possible an Abdennour, etc. etc.?

  • 63 Munster Mag // Jul 15, 2015 at 4:44 PM

You cudnt make it up….Shteve is known as a Spin Meister so i hope he aint serious. That defence doesnt actually have one really decent defender, and \that includes the right back. I thought u might like those moaning comments – there are plenty of those – there were loads when we were getting a new manager. Strange, but after all our yearning for De Boer, who was never going to join us, he ended up 17 points behind in the Dutch league.

  • 64 YouCouldn'tMakeItUp // Jul 15, 2015 at 4:44 PM

Same every year. If we win one its only a freindly. Lose, and its end of the world

  • 65 Mister Tuff // Jul 15, 2015 at 4:45 PM

jail – always a possibility -slag off our “saviour” for the first game. The first game is going to be quite important for us.

soton – interestingly do not seem to muck about – Clyne sold -new fullback from FC Twente -signed as replacement within a week (Cuco Martina)

  • 66 GeordieTwo // Jul 15, 2015 at 4:45 PM

6pounds for wor Armstrong Thump mate? Mike would not be happy with you. He’s planning a huge rummage sale. Rummage through wor players and make your best offer. A quid for Willo possibly, any spare change in the pocket for Obie….etc. etc..

  • 67 King Colback // Jul 15, 2015 at 4:46 PM

Ever Banega is a bit left field, saw this on twitter:
Do we need anymore midfielders when it is obvious that we need strikers and Centre backs?

  • 68 BandB // Jul 15, 2015 at 4:48 PM

I agree about the friendly results being meaningless.
Looking forward to all the excited discussion of how we are looking good the first time we have a decent win.
No-one will be told to shut up then, no doubt.

  • 69 GeordieTwo // Jul 15, 2015 at 4:48 PM

This is serious stuff Thump mate. Treat the pre-season with appropriate seriosity!!! Harrumph. We have to play the team that beat Scumderland next. And then the Portland B side (I still don’t believe they have enough players to have a B side)….This is horrifying. And then we go home and play top clubs like York!!!! Unbelievable…..

  • 70 Mister Tuff // Jul 15, 2015 at 4:49 PM

I don’t think we are going to hear too many harsh words from Wally during the tour. If he starts slagging off/making comments about individuals publicly it will wreck the whole tour. For these couple of weeks keeping everyone “together” is the key.

Wield the dagger when he gets back.

  • 71 GeordieTwo // Jul 15, 2015 at 4:50 PM

Don’t worry BandB mate, I won’t be fooled after our first pre-season win…. I don’t trust this Schteve fellow yet… He looks a bit sneaky to me. Possibly his wally tendencies will reappear….My eye is on him…Harrumph.

  • 72 GeordieTwo // Jul 15, 2015 at 4:52 PM

We always need more midfielders King mate @67!!! It’s a well known fact that top, top clubs only go after midfielders. Not CB’s or strikers.. The key to building a cup winning side is midfielders, midfielders, and more midfielders…..Harrumph.

  • 73 Jib // Jul 15, 2015 at 4:53 PM

In Latin American Countries the season is split into 2 , the apertura and , the clausura.
The fixtures you showed were for the apertura, the clausura lasts until end of August , I think , and a bit like the NFL at Wembley because the MLS is finished , is being played in the States for all the mexican expats.
Our game was just a one off in the middle of their season.

  • 74 BandB // Jul 15, 2015 at 4:57 PM

The apertura (opening) starts in July and runs until December.
The clausura runs from January until May.
    They are playing pre-season friendlies.
