McClaren – I Don’t Know How We Never Scored A Second

The need for a top striker and a top central defender was clear with Newcastle’s display last night at the home of the Milwaukee Brewers – Miller Park.

We conceded two poor goals in the first 16 minutes,  and the Magpies could have even won the game when we created a lot of chances in that second half – but again we just couldn’t score.

Steve McClaren was pleased enough with the commitment and effort of the players after those early goals and he seemed pleased enough by the display of the Newcastle team, who are still getting used to the way McClaren wants the side to play.

Possession type of football and some quick passing between the players.

This is some of what he said after the game last night:

“I thought the field was very good.” “It was unusual, different but once you get on a football field it’s always the same.”

“The crowd were tremendous and a good advert for both Mexican football and the Premier League.” “I don’t know how we never scored a second.

“The one on the line and two good chances and a cross or two as well.¨ “That will come.” “Pre-season is difficult to gauge and you just have to go on performance.”

“As the game went on we adjusted and the performance was good.”

There’s a good case to make that Newcastle deserved at least a draw last night, but of course the pre-season results are hardly ever a good indication of how we will fare in the league this season.

But its always good to win and it gives the lads confidence too.

Next up is the Sacramento Republic FC, founded three years ago and they play in the United Soccer League, which was created in 2011.

Spain invented the false 9 by putting a midfielder there. were going to invent the false defence, williamson and a load of midfielders. Preferably small ones!

    That’s not a midfielder, that’s Colo’s babysitter.

I dont think this Banega rumour is true, we need to sort out CB and CF positions…not CM especially now, we have signed Wijnaldum…

    Emanuele Giulianelli @EmaGiulianelli
Searching an agreement with Sevilla that asked €13mln to Newcastle for Banega. Offered 4 years at €3mln/y to the player.

attended the game in milwaukee…the defensive gaffes aside, it was obvious of our intent to play to feet, rather than long. good to see and after the first 20 mins, the game settled in for NUFC. its preseason after all. one of the jokes in the stands were that Club Atlas players were trying to impress for a transfer to the Prem!! 🙂 NUFC has issues to fix, but it appears the style will be different from what we’ve seen the past few yrs. here’s hoping for a few more quality signings, good health during the season and positive attitude from the players. also…Colo was on the pitch for early warm-ups, don’t believe he was on the bench as all…seemed odd. now…I need to get to SJP, seeing the team here is great…bucket list demands a trip to SJP!!

Really enjoyed all the electrical jokes. Didn’t realise we had so many bright sparks. If I was Irish and called O’Farrad my Nan would be….
