The Star is reporting tonight – in what they call an exclusive – that Chelsea have become interested in the Serbian striker Aleksandar Mitrovic, even though they are keen on bringing Barcelona’s Pedro to London.
And it seems whichever striker is brought in will in all likelihood be number three behind Diego Costa and on loan Colombian striker Radamel Falcao, who has been given the Chelsea number 9 shirt.
Aleksandar Mitrovic in training last weekend
But the report doesn’t even mention that his agent and his brother and younger brother were at Newcastle last Friday looking at the facilities and Newcastle have matched the Anderlecht fee and offered Mitrovic a five year deal, and really don’t report on the progress made by Newcastle over the last week.
They are saying Aleksandar is asking for £60K/week in wages.
They report Swansea and Newcastle are both interested – but Newcastle are more than just interested.
This report would have been accurate two weeks ago about the status of Mitrovic and the interest of some English clubs.
This seems to be an entirely Chelsea-based report suggesting that Mitrovic may be a good target for Chelsea, if they cannot get Pedro.
And that’s even through they have already brought in Falcao on loan and Pedro is very likely to be the next through the door.
Jose Mourinho also plays one striker up front in a variation of a 4-5-1 formation, so Mitrovic may not get too many games at Stamford Bridge as Loic Remy found out last season.
Of course if Chelsea really do want Mitrovic – they will probably sign him.
But it’s difficult to give this report much credence, without many facts being provided.
What do you think?
