Chelsea Reported After Mitrovic In Last Minute Deal

11:01 pm, Thursday, July 16th, 2015 by Dr. Ed Harrison · 65 Comments

The Star is reporting tonight – in what they call an exclusive – that Chelsea have become interested in the Serbian striker Aleksandar Mitrovic, even though they are keen on bringing Barcelona’s Pedro to London.

And it seems whichever striker is brought in will in all likelihood be number three behind Diego Costa and on loan Colombian striker Radamel Falcao, who has been given the Chelsea number 9 shirt.

But the report doesn’t even mention that his agent and his brother and younger brother were at Newcastle last Friday looking at the facilities and Newcastle have matched the Anderlecht fee and offered Mitrovic a five year deal, and really don’t report on the progress made by Newcastle over the last week.

They are saying Aleksandar is asking for £60K/week in wages.

They report  Swansea and Newcastle are both interested – but Newcastle are more than just interested.

This report would have been accurate two weeks ago about the status of Mitrovic and the interest of some English clubs.

This seems to be an entirely Chelsea-based report suggesting that Mitrovic may be a good target for Chelsea, if they  cannot get Pedro.

And that’s even through they have already brought in Falcao on loan and Pedro is very likely to be the next through the door.

Jose Mourinho also plays one striker up front in a variation of a 4-5-1 formation, so Mitrovic may not get too many games at Stamford Bridge as Loic Remy found out last season.

Of course if Chelsea really do want Mitrovic – they will probably sign him.

But it’s difficult to give this report much credence, without many facts being provided.

What do you think?

Comments welcome.

We’ll be OK next season when Riviere, Cisse and Perez get 30 goals apiece ,to make up for the 60 plus goals the defence let in
    Top 8 it is then!

For your information Sherlock, i support them both.

What the fat man dont see is that we used to be able to attract top players due to our reputation in the game.
He cashed that in for profit,we are now reaping the rewards.

anyone know what this kid means by “wants CL football” does he want ride the pine or actually play? he cant think hell get in a real game over costa or falcao right? Im mean its pretty clear why chelsy took falcao on. Jose wants to show the world he is the man and he can make VGs “problem” and allstar.

  • 22 Belfast // Jul 16, 2015 at 11:16 PM

Toondownsouth Good to see you back.

Yes Austin is basically tried and trusted like. We could probably do without anymore could be maybe players like the Serbian bloke. Needs time to adjust and all the usual bollox.

  • 23 jane // Jul 16, 2015 at 11:16 PM

“GeordieTwo Do you ever stop moaning”

agree his comments are pathetic, he needs to grow up.

  • 28 Belfast // Jul 16, 2015 at 11:23 PM

The Serbian bloke would also probably be desperate for a move elsewhere as soon as he arrives.

  • 29 lesh // Jul 16, 2015 at 11:26 PM

So. If Porto AND Chelsea bid for Mitrovic, both being accepted by Anderlecht he’d have a dilemma.

Which ECL club does he choose?

Easy, he’ll take the middle road and come to SJP……

Or not as the case may be!

  • 30 Sazzer // Jul 16, 2015 at 11:27 PM

Cabella reported to be injured while at the same time part of Charnley low bid + swap strategy.

  • 31 Our Toon // Jul 16, 2015 at 11:27 PM

Come on Belfast Austin is decent the serb is on a complete different level though, it’s laughable to even try to rationalise the debate. Let’s hope whoever comes in hits the ground running!!

Anyway the most important thing is buying CB’S. Think Wij will improve us, hopefully we act quick now to resolve the CB conundrum.

  • 32 welshgeordie9 // Jul 16, 2015 at 11:27 PM

welsh, on that, we can agree

  • 35 welshgeordie9 // Jul 16, 2015 at 11:29 PM

So what mitrovic goals stats are good, can he do that in this league.

  • 36 Belfast // Jul 16, 2015 at 11:29 PM

People said the same about luk de Jong our toon. The Belgium league ain’t that great to be honest.

  • 37 welshgeordie9 // Jul 16, 2015 at 11:30 PM

You know it makes sense to agree with me.

  • 38 Our Toon // Jul 16, 2015 at 11:30 PM

We look at the players that have left to join CL teams they weren’t half bad for us were they?

Look at the ones who don’t want to move and are happy staying.

Give me an ambitious player over a no hoper who’s happy with what he has.

  • 39 Belfast // Jul 16, 2015 at 11:30 PM

Pre Germany move regarding Luk de Jong

  • 40 welshgeordie9 // Jul 16, 2015 at 11:31 PM

  • 43 Our Toon // Jul 16, 2015 at 11:34 PM

If Ashley spent 100m this window but recouped 120m would you be happy?

If Ashley spent 100m but we didn’t buy CB’s would you be happy

It’s not how much is spent, it’s what it’s spent on that matters the most and the type of quality that comes in

  • 44 Our Toon // Jul 16, 2015 at 11:37 PM

People said about LDJ? Are you serious. People on this blog rated LDJ, not the football world. LDJ was never considered as a big prospect within Europe. When we signed him on loan the lad had barely had a kick for 5 months.

  • 45 Our Toon // Jul 16, 2015 at 11:39 PM

Anyway it’s old news with regards to both. I’d have thought though news would have come out about a formal offer of some sorts. Think the bookies have overreacted to a couple of bets!!

i can understand that cabella is at home “injured”, while they’re trying to offload him..but wtf is williamson in the states?

    Our Toon

if our staff didnt know that before they left for states..maybe they’re not as good as stevie says they are.. wth that move they showed they’re as incomepetent as willo ;D

  • 50 Jib // Jul 16, 2015 at 11:46 PM

    It works like this
McClaren is a coach of huge experience.
He is in the USA with his coaching team and the fit players in the squad.
He has said he will assess every player before making a decision on their futures.
Everyone starts with a clean slate.
He is a man of his word
Williamson is currently part of the squad
Ergo he is in the USA

  • 51 lee-toon // Jul 16, 2015 at 11:47 PM

Hope either Chelsea or Porto hurry up & sign mitrovic because I’m sick of him now!

  • 52 welshgeordie9 // Jul 16, 2015 at 11:49 PM

We won’t sign any of them, I’m that confident that i will bet anyone.

  • 53 nightfa11 // Jul 16, 2015 at 11:49 PM

then why’s vuckic in newcastle? compared to willo (footbal wise..even if they play in a completely different positions) he’s way way way way bigger talent..

  • 54 GEORDIE69 // Jul 16, 2015 at 11:52 PM

Lets move forward 8 years of the Mike.Asjley era
.All fans wanted him out at the end of last season correct? With the many millions he has saved without spending, now he uses just under 15 million on 1 player, while.releasing a few and most fan’s now have faith back. Haha, try not to forget that we got a manger that we all voted that we didn’t want. Now.he is the saviour and only one signing later, we are ready for the Premier league..Great idea trying to play football from the back with championshop class defenders. Good luck with that Dutch Steve.

  • 55 toon22 // Jul 16, 2015 at 11:53 PM

From what ive heard is during said match in the states Willow was given the ball alot,do you not think it was planned to show exactly what he will do with it.
Im sure our new coaches now know exactly what he is like, and will coach or replace him.

  • 56 looneytoon89 // Jul 16, 2015 at 11:53 PM

lets see if it really is CL football he wants when Porto offer him a lesser financial package

  • 57 Our Toon // Jul 16, 2015 at 11:56 PM

    Lee Toon

You’ll be even more sick of him when in a few years he’s regarded as a class act. You know like you were gutted when Bony made his big move to Citeh because we missed out on a class act!!

    Geordie69 – spot on buddy

  • 58 optimistic prime // Jul 16, 2015 at 11:59 PM

    Carver came in.

  • 61 JP...from The Rock // Jul 17, 2015 at 12:23 AM

Typical transfer shite. So sick of our transfers taking ages ffs! Chelsea I hate you! You already have 20 strikers but why not one$$ers!!

  • 62 Munster Mag // Jul 17, 2015 at 12:41 AM

Geordie 69 we have a brand new coaching team and you have already written them off. Well done.

  • 63 Bobbybee // Jul 17, 2015 at 1:47 AM

Let’s face it, some of our so called fans are desperate for us to fail and won’t be happy until we do. Despite the fact that we all despise Ashley, some of us can see that change is happening and welcome it. No doubt when we do buy more players – which we will – they’ll still search desperately for negatives. They see crazy conspiracies where none exist and wouldn’t get loyalty if it bit them. Just look at nightfa11’s comments re John and Liam – pathetic. None of
them will be missed next season – if they’ve ever been to a game to start with. I predict a decent season and hope that breaks their hearts. Keegan was a blip which brought 52k out from nowhere. This is the reality we’ve always known after many years in the old 2nd Division, but some of us stayed when it really was bad. Change is here, try enjoying it ffs.

  • 64 Toonmania // Jul 17, 2015 at 5:36 AM

Please Ed, Chelsea/Mitrovic story is just a rehash of the Chelsea/Austin deal by the daily Star.
neither of which I believe are true

  • 65 GEORDIE69 // Jul 17, 2015 at 7:32 AM

MunsterMag, so you believe because we managed to get in our 3rd and 4th choice coaching staff ,we have now found the cure to Williamson, Orbetan and Gouffran ect. You are dreaming unfortunately. Actions speak louder than words. We are a right back, two top class centre halfs and a top class left back short in defence. Best not get me started on the other positions we desperately lack in.
