Claims Charlie Austin To Newcastle A Done Deal

Journalist Daniel Ainsworth has just tweeted it’s his understanding that Charlie Austin is a done deal.

paul dummett charlie austin

Charlie Austin – a done deal for Newcastle?

It looks like we may have paid the full £15M for Austin and if Daniel is right maybe Steve McClaren can persuade Mike Ashley to spend the money.

Mirror Journalist Simon Bird had said it was his understanding about six weeks ago that this was a done deal – but it didn’t happen then.

However what did come out at the time was that Newcastle were said to be over-enthusiastic about the deal, and Simon though the deal was imminent.

If we do sign him it does mean that Newcastle seem to have been confident they could get Charlie through the door.

Comments welcome.

If we are indeed paying full whack for Austin, then i have serious doubts (as i have since monday night) that Mitrovic will be coming.

Didn’t Austin fail his medical with a dodgy knee at Hull two years ago? We’ll have been haggling over paying the full £15m unless its based on appearances

If the FCB is starting to worry about money, and if Mitrovic signs that’s about £43m
    What about the defence ?
    Is there any money left?

Not going to get carried away, but would much rather we go for a PL proven striker than taking a gamble on Mitrovic .

15 million is nowt considering Liverpool are going to pay 32 for Benteke .

@jail from previous post. I would pay £30m for a player even if we didn’t need him. It’s about time we splashed some cash.

You’ve got to laugh at the idea of Colo being a captain. He’s quiet, flinches when the ball’s driven towards him, and isn’t brave enough to attack a ball with his head from a corner.

And Janmaat. He had an average season. Nothing more. What real leadership qualities did he show?

The club should be signing leaders and potential captains. The squad has a dearth of gritty characters.

Anyone else feel they don’t really want Mitro anymore anyways? After the whole thing with his dad i’d rather not even sign him, dad will push for a move the first season he has over 10 goals.

Him and Mitrovic? Club did say they were after 2 CFs but that’s far from what I was expecting will wait and see if it happens though

Can’t see Cisse sticking around, although I’d be upset to lose him, not sure how assured he would be in the team and the ride he is getting from the papers currently

If we’re signing two strikers I’d be expecting that means that Cisse is leaving, he has one year left on his contract, a bum knee and has attracted bad headlines in the last couple of years. And there’s no way we would have 4 senior strikers with Mit, Austin, Cisse and Riviere s well as the youth prospects in Armstrong and Perez and Gouffy and de Jong who can play the position.

Who knows, maybe Cisse is going to Anderlecht as part of the deal.

Really cant see us getting both these guys, doesnt make sense.

Both will want assurances they will be first choice, especially in the run up to the Euros, we play 1 up front most likely and they are both similar styles.

No way we will get both, think we are playing them against each other trying to force an answer from Mitrovic.

    Our second choice player
    Or
A playef with ambitions above us and we’re his second choice?

    Lacazzete or a Rivierre?

Cisse, Austin and Mitrovic are all good strikers.

Anderlecht can get Riviere + Gouffran on loan with option to buy if the want. Or Armstrong with no option to buy.

I hope we dont sign Austin or Mitrovic and then get rid of Cisse though as it means we have not improved the squad at all !

Keep Cisse for the next season or 2 and then let him go he will provide enough competition and goals which would be worth more than the 7 or 8 million we would get for him !!!

I cant imagine Austin or Mitrovic will not want to be first choice and who knows if Cisse would be happy on the bench??

Yeah i know, but only 1 target man/CF. he goes with smaller, quicker players either side.

Austin and Mitrovic are both target men, cant see either of them playing wider or working as a partnership.

@hibbit. Neither Austin or Mitrovic are going to want to or should play wide in a front three. We’ve actually set up as 4-2-3-1. I certainly won’t complain if we end up getting both, I’m just intrigued as to how we will accommodate both.

@Polarboy of we did sign both in reality you would expect the club to do what they did with Perez. Set out a plan for him and tell him he will play second string and they will develope him. He is only 20. But going by him and his dad I’m pritty sure they would not accept that.
