After betting was halted yesterday on Charlie Austin moving to Newcastle the north-east club are expected to make a £15M bid for QPR striker Charlie Austin in the next 48 hours.
Charlie Austin – bids for him
With new manager Claudio Ranieri on board Leicester City would appear to be the main challengers and are expected to increase their first offer of £12M to £14M
QPR have also offered Charlie a new contract to stay, but if he wants to be in the England squad for the Euro 2016 Championships in France next summer, he needs to be playing in the Premier League.
It seems the big change at Newcastle that caused the betting to be halted is that we are now willing to bid the full £15M for Austin.
If that’s true, then the bid should be accepted by QPR, and we will be able to talk official with Charlie about terms.
But we have to believe he knows what the offer is from Newcastle so the next step could be a medical, and if he passes that he can sign.
But remember two years ago he failed a medical at Hull because of an old shoulder injury so let’s hope if he takes a medical at Newcastle he can pass it.
But people who put all the bets in must think Newcastle are in with a great chance, although there’s not much new news on the subject this morning.
There’s a claim his agent Muzzi Ozcan has said wished him all the best at Newcastle, but we cannot find that on his Twitter account.
Wish a successful career at his new team ( Charlie Austin )
— Muzzi Ozcan (@Muzziozcan) July 16, 2015
The claim is that the agent then later clarified that with another tweet (3 hours later) “Newcastle – Charlie Austin.” but that tweet has been deleted.
A deleted tweet is on on Muzzi’s Twitter account, but that’s hardly proof of anything.
So we’ll just have to wait and see.

Comment #215M for this lad is too much. We could get him for maybe 10 at the end of the window when they are desperate to sell and he is desperate to move.

Comment #3I thought the deal was sorted with Austin,
This transfer window is repeating others.
Make do with what we’ve got and hope we don’t get relegated.

Comment #6How do you know he will still be there at the end of the window?
For the sake of 5m id rather get him in now so he has time to prepare with the team for the first game of the season rather than wait til after the season begins and run the risk of losing him.
I agree it is slightly higher than his realistic value but for a CF with experience of playing and scoring in the PL I dont think it is that much over the top – not like 49m for a player with 1 good season anyway.

Comment #7If Mitrovic does not come, we need striker…we need Austin or other striker…I think maybee bid for Loic Remy at 10-12M should do it…He brings a lot to the team, he is fast, technical and I think we should go for players that can make us better and Austin to me is simillar to Cisse, but definetely he should give us some goals, but the way he play is same like Cisse

Can we afford to wait until the end of the window? We only have Cisse really & if he gets injured we’re back to where we were last season. The other alternative would be SDJ at the top.

Remy rejected us once, then only signed after QPR were relegated and only then on loan so he didnt get stuck with us. Im tired of us getting these types of players, Mitrovic almost falls into this category also.
Now his wages will be way out of our league, if Palace are happy to pay 100k a week for Cabaye then Id imagine they will do the same, or similar for Remy.
Think Austin most likely and that will be it for CF unless Cisse leaves. Playing with 1 targetman/central striker and 2 wider players means we have Cisse, Riviere and Perez as backup, no way we will get another without some outgoings.

Comment #11Expected to make a bid in the next 48 hours?? Ha, is this like the 48 hours that we set as a deadline for Mitrovic – reports today say the club expect to know this weekend.
Anyway, other reports have Austin as being keen to wait and see if Chelsea come in for him.
Austin was busy napping in Italy when betting was suspended, doesn’t sound like someone on the verge of a transfer.

49m for citeh is chump change, 15m for us is mega money, the biggest fee paid for any player under MA’s regime, for a player who’s had 1 season in the prem, is 26 and out of a contract in 10 months, isn’t even an England international.
49m is a ridiculous amount but they’ve paid for a 21 year old (or younger) England international, CL experience, had 2 years left on his contract, scored 7 goals from midfield. Someone who can give them a decade of great service, they’ve predominantly paid for the talent.
Personally I think Raheem is overrated

Comment #14Seems crazy if it’s 15M for Austin or Mitrovic. Mitrovic is 6 years younger with far more technical ability and as far as I know no shoulder or other injuries. Why go to 15M for Austin but not for a younger better player?
Did anyone catch the radio 4 afternoon play yesterday re – flight MH17. Very moving.

I do see where you are coming from, but…
I think we should be looking for another Motrovic-type. Young hungry fw with similar talent. But AFTER we get CBs. We definitely need fowards this window, but i believe we have control on the Austin saga so we should use it to our advantage. Jose isn’t going to have a 15M bench warmer at Chelski.
Short answer… Yes, i believe we can afford to wait till late august for Austin

Comment #16Spend the money on CB’s first, if another club moves in for Austin then we can make that move as well but it seems as though no other team thinks he’s worth 15m. If the only threat is Leicester then surely he’d choose us over them. They need the money as FFP fine they’ll get will be huge

Comment #18I think these transfer windows just show that no-one has a clue what is going on.
Too much social media, too many online “news” websites run by amateurs who take a twitter comment of guesswork and rehash it until enough people do the same and then its everywhere as actual info.
Bring back the pre-internet days of teletext and ceefax page 302.

YEah, people seem to forget Austin’s medical issues – failed the medical at Hull, and supposedly at QPR but they went for it anyway.
If he fails the medical here then what will the club do? Offer him a low wage but with a release clause like Ba? Stick him on a decent wage for a player of his ilk and suffer the consequences – Marveaux. Or just not sign him at all because of it.

Comment #23Why do so many people want rid of Elliot? Everyone was blaming the club for having to play Alnwick last season, yet people want them to leave us in the same position again, whilst also hampering Woodman’s development by making him hang around the club as a third choice??
Rotonda,
Mitrovic every day of the week if it is between those him and Austin.

Comment #26Cant believe what im reading on here.
One minute fans are screaming to get Austin in, and now, bcos of rumours that we are in for Mitrovic,we are saying Austin is a risk and not worth the money.
It goes to show that you will never please certain fans no matter what.
id love Austin up here ,i think he wpuld be just the spark we need.
How can anyone say that 15M is too much to pay for a guy who scored 18 goals in a really poor team last season.
Benteke is valued at twice that, and someone will pay it,probably one of the Manchester clubs ,or Liverpool.
How many goals did he score last season.

Comment #27Blah Blah Blah Mitrovic, this guy has had ample time to make a decision, we’ve done everything possible to get him to sign. personally i dont hold much store in the loyalty arguement, at the end of the day the only loyal people in football are the fans and homegrown players, for everyone else its a job. So with this in mind why dont we go for another mercenary… Loic Remy, proven, quick and we all know can score goals, and probably a few million cheaper. Before you shoot me down this is only a debate regarding mercenaries.

Comment #282 strikers, 2 centre backs (ideally with one able to play right back) and a creative winger are still needed. While i like the look of a lot of the central midfielders we’re being linked with they are really not a priority.
Need Austin over the line, then ideally Mitrovic but if he doesn’t want to come so be it. Go for Das Bost or similar but get the players in before the end of pre-season or they’ll never settle. Bids for Matip and/or Douglas should be formalised pronto as well
