Newcastle at some point this summer need to bring in at least one center-half to shore up the defense, which has let in 190 goals in the last three Premier League seasons, and one of the defenders we have been linked with this year is Genk center-back Kara Mbodji, who can also play as a defensive midfielder.
6 ft 4ins tall Mbodji joined Genk at the end of 2012 from Norwegian club Tromsø for £1.4M, and it would seem he would be a decent buy for £5M since he can play in two positions that Newcastle need to fill – if Cheick Tiote is sold this summer.
Kara Mbodji – in Senegal colors
Newcastle have been watching Kara this year and there seems to be lots of interest in the 15 times capped Senegal International.
Kara was in the Senegal 2012 Olympic squad and in the squad earlier this year at the 2015 Africa Cup of Nations.
Mark McKay is his agent, and has said there is a lot on interest in his client:
“There is plenty of interest in Kara – he’s big, powerful but composed too.” “He’d be an asset to any Premier League side and he’s keen to test himself in England.”
Other Premier League clubs said to be interested are Everton and West Ham.
While at Tromso he played 89 games with 6 goals and 2 assists and since he’s been at Genk he’s shown some very good form and made 83 appearances with 10 goals and 2 assists.
His contract has another three years to run in Belgium, and it seems that for £5M Kara Mbodji would be an excellent buy for Newcastle.
This lad can also score goals and here’s a corker he scored against Anderlecht last season – sign him up!
