It’s Not Good News for Newcastle

9:00 am, Saturday, July 18th, 2015 by Dr. Ed Harrison · 40 Comments

Curtis Good has been injured again, and he is out of Newcastle’s two remaining tour games against Sacramento Republic tonight and the Portland Timbers On Tuesday night in Oregon.

It seems the hip he injured a year last March, in his first appearance for Australia is still bothering him, so this is not good news for the 22 year-old or for Newcastle.

Curtis Good on the left in training this summer

That explains why Lubo Satka has been sent out to America to join the tour.

It was reported yesterday that both Lubo and Mehdi Abeid have joined up with the tour, along with new signing Georginio Wijnaldum.

Curtis only returned back to training this pre-season, and for him to still be having trouble with the hip, after he has already seen a number of specialists, is worrying.

He finally had surgery in February of this year, after it troubled him in one of his comeback games for the U21 side, so it’s seems it still hasn’t been fully fixed.

It must also be extremely frustrating for Good himself, who has battled a number of injuries since he arrived at Newcastle three years ago from Melbourne Heart for £400K on a six year deal.

Comments welcome.

I think Austin, based on his lack of top level experience and his contract, is a £8M player.

…but seeing as he’s English there’s always a club willing to pay that. That’s the downside of the registration rules in the UK!

But you’ll only see a foreign club pay that amount for Brit if he’s world class!

    Ashley OUT

  • 3 Jib // Jul 18, 2015 at 9:04 AM

So if Satka is to replace Good , who is Abeid to replace ?

I am sorry but I would release that kid pronto!

  • 6 mickalfas // Jul 18, 2015 at 9:05 AM

  • 7 jesperfuglsang - capt'n awesome of the lemon crew // Jul 18, 2015 at 9:07 AM

mickalfas…it’s a shame really because I think it would be good for the sport!

  • 8 Jib // Jul 18, 2015 at 9:09 AM

Jesper has banged on for weeks about Austin being over-priced !!!
    You know what ?
Jesper is bang on the money
    Benteke £32million Sterling £49million it’s a nonsense

  • 9 mickalfas // Jul 18, 2015 at 9:10 AM

Spot on,could give our players a different way of playing
Let’s face it ,the national team, full of so called superstars never do anything

  • 10 the ledge // Jul 18, 2015 at 9:10 AM

It would be a great signing to get mbemba, can play right back as well mitrovic is going to be a real star big step up from cisse

  • 11 WWSBRD // Jul 18, 2015 at 9:14 AM

Mitrovic is a 7.7 million pound player, shall we refuse to pay Above that?

  • 12 jesperfuglsang - capt'n awesome of the lemon crew // Jul 18, 2015 at 9:15 AM

mickalfas…your national team would definitely gain from more Brits playing abroad, but because they are vastly overpriced and overhyped it will just not happen.

…alot of people I talk to on here just don’t seem to care about this issue!

  • 13 WWSBRD // Jul 18, 2015 at 9:16 AM

Got our pants pulled down on Gini as well he was only a 8 million pound player when we bought him, what are the club thinking!

  • 14 LewSpi v2.0 // Jul 18, 2015 at 9:18 AM

That’s because most people don’t care about the national team anymore

Fed up of the system, it has caused them/us to fall out of love with it.

A bit like Newcastle United under Ashley’s tenure.

  • 15 Jib // Jul 18, 2015 at 9:19 AM

The relegated teams – Hull , Burnley and, QPR each got more money from the EPL , than Barcelona and Juventus each got from UEFA for getting to , and playing , in the final of the CL.

  • 16 JP...from The Rock // Jul 18, 2015 at 9:20 AM

Bloody Hell Ed! With a dramatic Headline like that one I expected another disaster from the club. This is far from being that serious.

On a positive note it seems like we may finally clinch Mitrovic and put this long saga to an end at last. Looks good.

  • 17 Slank // Jul 18, 2015 at 9:21 AM

From the translation and reading between the lines it would appear that the delays were more to do with the players family than Newcastle and Anderlecht. Even the player’s agent may be innocent, which must be a first.

If the transfer is true it reduces Austin’s asking price by some margin or removes him entirely from our sights.

  • 18 mickalfas // Jul 18, 2015 at 9:21 AM

And all subsidized by everyone who has sky tv, football fans or not!

  • 19 Rotonda heights // Jul 18, 2015 at 9:21 AM

exactly. 15m should still buy someone a bit special. austin is obviously extremely competent but he’s not star quality.

If Ed says so and so is VERY CLOSE one more time!!!

  • 20 Lilongwe Geordie // Jul 18, 2015 at 9:21 AM

It depends which country the Brits come from as to whether it will improve the England national team! Only messing.

Anyway, off out so next time I log on I expect to see photos of at least one player holding up the shirt at SJP. Don’t let me down Newcastle!

  • 21 Jib // Jul 18, 2015 at 9:24 AM

WWSBRD – “Got our pants pulled down on Gini as well he was only a 8 million pound player when we bought him, what are the club thinking!”

That a beautiful piece of misdirection

We were talking about overpriced BRITS

If you think Sterling is worth £49 million you need to give yersel a shake

  • 22 Rotonda heights // Jul 18, 2015 at 9:24 AM

initially thought that, especially after the previous ” very close” headline as being just our luck, but them remembered seeing good was injured again and we have to allow ed hs little play on words but I know what you mean!

  • 23 Jail for Ashley // Jul 18, 2015 at 9:25 AM

Hint of sarcasm there.. not like you !

  • 24 corkypants // Jul 18, 2015 at 9:26 AM

mickalfas/Jesper couldnt agree more we also need to look into the reason why we see no kids from the uk in foriegn acadamies look at chelsea man city arsenal loads of young lads from abroad in there youth teams but the player i can recall being from england and breaking into a 1st team outside of the english league is Eric Dier and im sure he is part portuguese anyway.

  • 25 Ron Knee // Jul 18, 2015 at 9:27 AM

If Mitrovic and Mbemba are coming in, who are going out?

  • 26 north_country_boy // Jul 18, 2015 at 9:28 AM

Get yer mortgages on them both signing today! If Anderlecht have said they both haven’t been training due to slight injuries then they are definitely on their way cos Van Gaal has given the same reason as to why De Gea is not on their US trip…and we all know how that one is gonna end! ????????

  • 27 Rotonda heights // Jul 18, 2015 at 9:30 AM

it’s weird there was a time when

    m hughes
    t francis
    j jordan
    s archibald

and others did go abroad but it all seemed to stop

  • 28 Rotonda heights // Jul 18, 2015 at 9:32 AM

Trouble is I don’t think we could give away any of saylor, willo, colo, obertan etc, although i see charnley was allegedly daft enough to turn down 2m for willo from boro

  • 29 Jail for Ashley // Jul 18, 2015 at 9:32 AM

    Ron Knee,
Hopefully STaylor or Williamson and Gouffran. Bring in a goal scoring RW, a RB cover and probably asking too much but get another CB.

  • 30 JP...from The Rock // Jul 18, 2015 at 9:32 AM

Rotonda- Ed just loves messing with our poor souls. We must all have really thick skin to support this club and Ed just can’t help himself to see how thick it really is.

  • 31 Jail for Ashley // Jul 18, 2015 at 9:33 AM

    Money. Simples.

  • 32 WWSBRD // Jul 18, 2015 at 9:34 AM

Why sir if u are implying I don’t wholeheartedly believe what I post on here…well I have never been so offended haha

    Jib jab jabberooney
We can only complain about over priced English folk on here?

Surely the point that was being made, using information from transfermarkt, can be applied to ever deal in order to see if clubs have over paid regardless of nationality? No?

As for Sterling if Man City consistantly win the league and push through the CL he will turn out to be worth it. Ronaldo was pretty pricy for Madrid but he’s done alright for them ud agree

  • 33 Rotonda heights // Jul 18, 2015 at 9:36 AM

dier is english, his parents just went to live in portugal.

Our academies don’t produce because we have goons like carver, stone, woodman, watson etc populating them who have no collective technical coaching ability whatsoever.

That’s why I am delighted NUFC have finally tumbled to getting someone like Cathro in

  • 34 Jib // Jul 18, 2015 at 9:44 AM

    You are probably right
My Dad said to me once many years ago in a discussion about selling my chopper bike
“Did you know my car is worth the same as your bike”
    “Hows that ?” says I
    He said
“Everything is worth what someone is prepared to pay for it “

  • 35 Ron Knee // Jul 18, 2015 at 9:48 AM

Is that true about Iron Mike? Strewth!

Have you read this John Gibson article:

  • 36 north_country_boy // Jul 18, 2015 at 9:48 AM

Anyone think we are trying for Mbemba for right back with the possibility of looking into moving Janmaat to centre half? He looked decent there last year but it would be a big step to change the position of an accustomed full back

  • 37 corkypants // Jul 18, 2015 at 9:49 AM

Rotonda yeah the level of coaching in england is shocking and needs looking into loads, you would of thought someone would of looked at this by now lol.

still doesnt explain why if are youth players dont make it here they dont try and find a club abroad my cousin is steve williams used to play for bradford a couple of seasons ago when they had there epic cup run injury ended his career early he was a first team regular, he is trying to start a agency for the youth to get football scholarships abroad. he seems to think its to do with the english lads have adifferent mentality where if they dont make it here they cant make it anywhere and they end up just giving up!

  • 38 Jib // Jul 18, 2015 at 9:57 AM

Apparently it is a work permit for Mbemba is the hold up now
With the Congo being ranked 60 in the world they cannot use his caps as a lever.the club has to plead special circumstances (usually his income tax contribution is enough) but this transfer has more twist and turns than the Zambezi river.

  • 39 manni // Jul 18, 2015 at 10:57 AM

We should be firing on all fronts, yes we need a striker , but our defence is the weakest link , need to build the backbone of the team 1st. Hopefully Mclaren can get the best out of Tiote, but I’d rather see Abeid , let’s just hope we can get Mitrovic and Mbemba this weekend !!!

  • 40 Whumpie // Jul 18, 2015 at 1:17 PM

Gutted for Curtis; hope he can keep his chin up on this one. Good player.
