The move made by Newcastle to get Georginio Wijnaldum to Newcastle plus the exciting news today that it looks we will be signing Aleksandar Mitrovic and Chancel Mbemba from Anderlecht, can only help us get some of our other targets to join Newcastle.
And would you believe it, but a target we thought we had no chance of getting – 25 year-old Monaco center-back Aymen Abdennour – is reported to keen on joining Newcastle.
Aymen Abdennour – now keen on joining Newcastle
The £15M rated Abdennour is now reported in the Mirror to be in the sights of Newcastle, and it looks like we can get him to Tyneside if we can meet his wage demands.
The left footed top defender had always said – much like Mitrovic – that he would only leave Monaco for a club that played Champions League football.
A club source has told the Mirror:
“The player really likes the idea of Newcastle – if they can meet his demands.”
Perhaps these players are seeing two things that makes the Premier League special and more more attractive – even without Champions League football:
- The English clubs are becoming rich and can afford to pay big fees and big wages – and the PL money will increase by 70% next year
- The Premier League is by far the most visible and most popular football league in the world, with every game televised live around the world.
If the players want the PL and the Champions league, then they have to join one of the top four clubs in England – and the best of luck in getting in the first teams of the two Manchester clubs, Arsenal, Chelsea, and maybe Liverpool and Tottenham.
Newcastle is a good other option to those six English clubs with the tremendous fan support, terrific stadium and long history of the club.
The 25-year-old 33 times capped Tunisia International has been tracked by Chief Scout Graham Carr since he was at Toulouse until last year, and it even looks like we have a chance of signing him.
If Newcastle can get Mitrovic and Mbemba through the door, and then Abdennour – it would show Newcastle really do mean business this summer – and in the future.
Abdennour and Mbemba would be terrific central defenders for Newcastle – if we can get both of them through the door.
It may now be possible.
