Monaco’s Aymen Abdennour Keen On Joining Newcastle

11:00 pm, Saturday, July 18th, 2015 by Dr. Ed Harrison · 85 Comments

The move made by Newcastle to get Georginio Wijnaldum to Newcastle plus the exciting news today that it looks we will be signing Aleksandar Mitrovic and Chancel Mbemba from Anderlecht,  can only help us get some of our other targets to join Newcastle.

And would you believe it, but a target we thought we had no chance of getting – 25 year-old Monaco center-back Aymen Abdennour – is reported to keen on joining Newcastle.

Aymen Abdennour

Aymen Abdennour – now keen on joining Newcastle

The  £15M rated Abdennour is now reported in the Mirror to be in the sights of Newcastle, and it looks like we can get him to Tyneside if we can meet his wage demands.

The left footed top defender had always said – much like Mitrovic – that he would only leave Monaco for a club that played Champions League football.

A club source has told the Mirror:

“The player really likes the idea of Newcastle – if they can meet his demands.”

Perhaps these players are seeing two things that makes the Premier League special and more more attractive – even without Champions League football:

  1. The English clubs are becoming rich and can afford to pay big fees and big wages – and the PL money will increase by 70% next year
  2. The Premier League is by far the most visible and most popular football league in the world, with every game televised live around the world.

If the players want the PL and the Champions league, then they have to join one of the top four clubs in England – and the best of luck in getting in the first teams of the two Manchester clubs, Arsenal, Chelsea, and maybe Liverpool and Tottenham.

Newcastle is a good other option to those six English clubs with the tremendous fan support, terrific stadium and long history of the club.

The 25-year-old 33 times capped Tunisia International has been tracked by Chief Scout Graham Carr since he was at Toulouse until last year, and it even looks like we have a chance of signing him.

If Newcastle can get Mitrovic and Mbemba through the door, and then Abdennour – it would show Newcastle really do mean business this summer – and in the future.

Abdennour and Mbemba would be terrific central defenders for Newcastle – if we can get both of them through the door.

It may now be possible.

Comments welcome.

According to the Chronicle we are trying to sign Austin as well as Mitro

  • 2 voodoo85 // Jul 18, 2015 at 11:04 PM

Too many signings – would love them all but can’t see them all happening

Think other clubs would come in for Abdennour – like our chances with Austin, Mitrovic and Mbemba

It’s hard to guess with this mob, they managed to move quite quick that January for 5players. Penfold wasn’t in charge then but it’s his arse if he doesn’t deliver.

Will I be able to watch the match in youtube in the morning, after the game?

Mitrovic looks to have all the attributes to make him a long term goal machine.
Wijnaldum has shown he is capable of everything you could want from the modern box to box midfielder.
But Abdennour would eclipse them both as being the signing that Newcastle United most need, and as a defender he is the real deal, an absolute beast who would single handedly save us 12-16 points per season.

Partner him with Mbemba and Krul will be more protected than a princess’ virtue

  • 12 Belfast // Jul 18, 2015 at 11:14 PM

Don’t believe this one at all. Although it would be great if we signed two decent centre backs. I just can’t see it.

  • 13 Belfast // Jul 18, 2015 at 11:21 PM

James Tomkins linked again. We can never ever shake him off. Every single window without fail.

Got a feeling in me water that if the signings of Mitrovic, Mbemba and Abdennour actually happen then with the addition of Xherdan Shaqiri and a top left back, Steve McClaren could be close to doing a Howard Wilkinson at Leeds…We will really be top competition for the established 5 money clubs ..

I look at the best way to set a side up is always defence first…And if all goes to plan and Abdennour is bought then we will be solid.

We have a great spark down the left in Rolando Arrons

He can do the same job that John Robertson done for Cloughie , We got our John Robertson ..if he stays fit .

Mitrovic needs a Good supply and Shaquiri is the man.

Compare our centre backs now to the afore mentioned can see why we have suffered at the back ..It’s the first thing any Manager should get right and it’s being attended to !

    Things are looking up …!

Got a feeling ( pray I’m Wrong) that Mitrovic’s agent is hanging on and hanging on for a Phone call from a certain London club .
Agents in general really make life hard when it comes to signing a player. …………….£Greed£.

  • 24 JamesToon // Jul 18, 2015 at 11:32 PM

If we get in Mbemba, Abdennour, Austin and Mitrovic then it will be a great transfer window, but what would really make us a solid top 8 force at the very least is a top left back like Willems or Kurzawa and a top winger like Shaqiri.

  • 25 Belfast // Jul 18, 2015 at 11:34 PM

  • 57 potski // Jul 19, 2015 at 12:36 AM

It’s Wijnaldum, and he plays central midfield. He is a box to box player, not a no. 10.

    I don’t usually list players but …

    Xherdan Shaqiri

I just hope we are in for Abdennour and Shaqiri..

Anyone staying up for the Match ?

  • 66 YoungMagpieFromBurnley // Jul 19, 2015 at 1:52 AM

Yes online, it better be worth it lol

  • 67 Ashton // Jul 19, 2015 at 2:05 AM

We don’t need Shaqiri. He is a right winger. We already have Sissoko and MC fancies him as a RW which is great.

Sissoko is a better RW as well.

We need two top class CB and a proper LB.

I would be very happy with two of these: Glik, De Vreij, Mbemba, Abdenour, Van Dijk.

And either Willems or Ricardo Rodriguez (maybe unrealistic).

    Janmat——- Glik———-Abdenour——-Rodriguez
    —————— Tiote———–Ginni

This team would be brilliant. Plenty of crossing ability from the flanks. The fullbacks are the best crossers in the game. The RW is right footed and the the LW is left footed which means more crosses.

More crosses would great because Mitrovic is very good at heading the ball. He is one of the best strikers at doing it actually and would only get better at.

Perez has underrated heading ability as well and he is a great finisher.

Tiote can be Tiote and just pass it to Ginni once he get the ball the way he did with Cabaye.

The CB’s are very intimidating and organized. They wouldn’t shy away from anything and they are good passers of the ball.

    Darlow is better than Krul.

Cabella might be injured but if Mcclaren cld get e best out of him it will b like a new signing and Rivere can b good back up. I dont believe in players jst having one bad starting season and u let them go.

Colo and Enrique proved me wrong.

  • 73 expatmag // Jul 19, 2015 at 2:44 AM

As it stands, with less than 3 weeks till the season starts and despite all rumours and press speculation, we have signed only ONE player.

All this speculation about the Anderlecht lads, Austin, Abdennour, Tomkins etc etc etc should be taken with a pinch of salt.

For example, why is Mitrovic allegedly having his medical in London when he is supposed to be arriving in his agents private jet? Cant it fly into Newcastle Airport?

  • 74 will die for the toon army // Jul 19, 2015 at 2:46 AM

    Will die

I agree with you. I dont see McLaren wanting rid if Cabella unless the player himself wants to go.

Furthermore, another major reason in my opinion on why Cabella and Riviere failed to shine last season was the ineptitude of Pardew and his coaching staff. I would expect to see major improvement in both players under McLaren especially if he plays them in their correct positions.

  • 77 expatmag // Jul 19, 2015 at 2:54 AM

    Will die

Monday will certainly be a key day and if we are to sign these players, we need to get them signed up and ready to play in remaining friendlies by the tine the squad returns from America. We only have York, Sheffield United and Moenchengladbach left to play before the real stuff starts

I think the board will clear all the players at 30 and above being in the last years of their contract to provide future stability.

So Cisse, Taylor, Colo, Willo, Goufran are up for e chop.

Obertan and Maurvuex have failed to impress while Vickic is a championship player.
