No Mitrovic Sightings in Newcastle – He’s Now In London

There are various reports tonight from different sources that Newcastle hope to get both Aleksandar Mitrovic and Chancel Mbemba from Anderlecht signed up in the next day or two.

With reports coming out of Belgium this morning – initially from HLN.be – that Aleksandar Mitrovic had said good-bye to his team mates and was traveling to Newcastle for a medical, it looked like the Mitrovic signing would be done quickly.

Note – there is a late update to this article at the end – after it was published – and it quotes Belgium media reproting he’s now in London and will be presented as a Newcastle player on Monday.

aleksandar mitrovich

Aleksandar Mitrovic – signing for Newcastle

That was backed up when he sent a message out from his Facebook saying he was leaving Anderlecht and would soon be wearing black and white strips again, which he wore while at Partizan Belgrade.

The potential quick signing was also consistent with reports from local journalists with the club in Sacramento, California,  that they wanted Mitrovic to join them this weekend, so he would possibly be available for the game on Tuesday night against the Portland Timbers.

But the main idea was that he could train and mix with the squad for a couple of days in Portland, Oregon from Sunday,  before jetting back with them to Newcastle on Wednesday.

So that all looked like that was the plan – but no sightings of Mitrovic in Newcastle today it seems.

Maybe Newcastle are hoping to get both of the players signed and unveiled together, with some reports lately suggesting both signings will be completed within the next 48 hours – but if that’s the case Aleksandar would not be traveling to America.

The Mirror are reporting the Mitrovic signing should be completed by Monday.

Belgium reports this morning indicated the Mbemba deal was not as far along as the Mitrovic deal,  but that work was ongoing to get Chancel to Newcastle, so progress should have been made on that deal.

With the way the Mitrovic potential signing has been dragged out over the last few weeks, it would have been good, really good, if we could have finished the medical quickly today – and then have him finally sign along the dotted line.

However, since the news was reported earlier today, followed by Alexander’s message on Facebook, there has been nothing – almost a news blackout on the situation.

But it will still be a huge coup for Newcastle United if we get both Mitrovic and Mbemba on board – one player for each of the positions we need to really strengthen this summer – center-forward and center-back.

As Steve McClaren has said many times – we need to be patient.

The lads play the Sacramento Republic tonight with a local 8:00pm kick-off time which is 4:00am Sunday – Newcastle time.

Update – thanks to readers for the heads-up – there are reports in Belgium that he has has flown straight to London for his medical, and that’s where he is right now.

Here is the translated piece from Sports World (nieuwsblad.be):

The transfer of Aleksandar Mitrovic to Newcastle is in its final phase. The Anderlecht striker is in London to to sign a contract and will first undergo medical tests this weekend at the Premier League club.

Mitrovic will be presented early next week at Newcastle. Sports world reported earlier this weekend that Anderlecht will receive €16.5M for the Serbian, and €2.4M are his base wages (plus extras) at Newcastle.

That clears things up.

Is it just me, or do Newcastle have the slowest negotiators and slowest medical team in the Premier League

Other teams (via SSN) announce a deal agreed between clubs and then medical is done within 24 hours and deal fully announced as complete

We seem to take a whole weekend just to book a doctors appointment

It would make sense for the unveiling of Mitrovich and any other new signings to be in the USA especially if time is of the essence. Go figure !

can you see them funding all that in one season it will be great if they did but given how long it takes them to conclude a deal there is only enough time for them to another couple of players before the window shuts
and that could take longer if penfold has to start selling

It is a possibility that mitrovic is staying in Belgium while they get his permit sorted

The mirror is stating that abdennour likes the idea of becoming a magpie if we can meet his terms. If we pull these 2 off plus abdennour I will dare to dream

Not another Remy scenario with Chelsea instead of QPR? Surely NUFC have learned that lesson?

Mitrovic has apparently said he is going tp play in a black and white shirt, similar to his Partizan Belgrade days, so that aint Chelsea.
