Krul, Anita, Sissoko, De Jong And Cisse Start In Sacramento

3:11 am, Sunday, July 19th, 2015 by Dr. Ed Harrison · 146 Comments

Sacramento Republic FCnufc emblem

Steve McClaren has just announced his side for our third pre-season friendly and second in the US tour against Sacramento Republic,  and Tim Krul starts in goal but still no Fab Coloccini in the side, who remains injured.

Georginio Wijnaldum is on the bench for the first time, and we could see him cone on in the second half of this game.

In fact there are 11 on the bench so we could see a number of changes during the second half to give players a run out.

Newcastle(4-2-3-1): Tim Krul; Daryl Janmaat, Mike Williamson, Jamaal Lascelles, Massadio Haidara; Vurnon Anita, Jack Colback (c); Moussa Sissoko, Siem de Jong, Gabriel Obertan; Papiss Cisse
Substitutes: Karl Darlow, Freddie Woodman, Shane Ferguson, Lubomir Satka, Steven Taylor, Gael Bigirimana, Mehdi Abeid, Georginio Wijnaldum, Rolando Aarons, Yoan Gouffran, Ayoze Perez

It looks like local lad Jack Colback will be captain again, and the formation is the familiar 4-2-3-1 with Papiss Cisse up front, and Vurnon Anita and Jack the two holding midfielders.

You will be able to watch the game here.

Sunderland were beaten 1-0 earlier in the week at Bonney Field so we want to do better than that – and a win would be good.

Comments welcome.

Come on lads and lasses what do you reckon score will be?
    I think we’ll win 4-0

  • 4 will die for the toon army // Jul 19, 2015 at 3:20 AM

Obertan with his pace and ability to beat a man confuses every manager but he lacks end product. You see he even confused Sir Alex and made a big signing for him.

  • 5 will die for the toon army // Jul 19, 2015 at 3:22 AM

Anita has really solidified his position. Now Where is Wijnaldum going to play.

    hey

  • 7 switch365 // Jul 19, 2015 at 3:33 AM

Looking forward to watching us play exciting footballs, in comparison to last season’s hit and hope garbage.

A great result, fantastic performance and no injuries coupled with the expected confirmation of Mitrovic and maybe Mbemba and then maybe an offer accepted for Abdennour and we could well be looking at the best few days for a long long while.

Goals and a clean sheet would do me, going for 3-0

  • 8 J.M // Jul 19, 2015 at 3:35 AM

    Jan Mat Mbemba Abdennour Haidarra

    Colbeck
    Sissoko Wijnaldum

    Mitrovic

Colo has an Archilles injury very bad for us the players we want to offload get sick.

    Colo, Marvuex, Taylor,

  • 11 switch365 // Jul 19, 2015 at 3:48 AM

Aymen Abdennour ”likes the idea” of becoming a Magpie

Well I’m sure the Toon Army “likes the idea” of him becoming one of the best central defenders we’ve ever had!

  • 12 J.M // Jul 19, 2015 at 3:50 AM

Will die for the toon on army

Aarons ahead of cabella for me????

  • 15 JDdubai // Jul 19, 2015 at 4:01 AM

Good to see Lascelles start again – he needs the most minutes pre-season to see if he will be able to handle the PL.

Cant see it giving him too much confidence having Willo next to him mind – would probably help for Colo to be there.

    Why isnt the stream working???

  • 17 will die for the toon army // Jul 19, 2015 at 4:02 AM

Is it me or does this pitch look really slow? Come on janmaat lol

  • 30 honest fan // Jul 19, 2015 at 4:25 AM

That just needed a toe poke

  • 31 lochinvar // Jul 19, 2015 at 4:37 AM

Abdenmour would be a great signing and he wants to play for us.
And Mark Knopfler will get some royalties out of us playing his song on match days

    “Why Aymen”

And the commentators will like him… “Amen Corner ”

Sounds like he’s a perfect fit for Newcastle

  • 32 toonicle // Jul 19, 2015 at 4:38 AM

Anita and colback are looking tidy in the holding roles, de Jong looking like he will be able to put in some killer passes

  • 33 lochinvar // Jul 19, 2015 at 4:43 AM

    30 minutes 0-0
And the American commentators say we sold Ba for 40-50 million
    Lol

  • 34 soundoid // Jul 19, 2015 at 4:44 AM

    Janmaat is fooking class.

  • 35 JDdubai // Jul 19, 2015 at 4:44 AM

So far Janmaat showing he is still streets ahead of most others.

Still lack enough bodies and threat in the box, gods we need Mitrovic.

  • 36 ilovetoon8788 // Jul 19, 2015 at 4:48 AM

Aymen is a player we won’t be getting. Liverpool and Arsenal are following him.

  • 37 lochinvar // Jul 19, 2015 at 4:53 AM

400 toon fans in “sell out” crowd of 11,000

  • 38 ilovetoon8788 // Jul 19, 2015 at 4:53 AM

siem de jong looks completely hopeless. when the league start i hope he’s the backup for wijnaldum on the bench.

  • 39 LewSpi v2.0 // Jul 19, 2015 at 4:54 AM

Been watching for 5 minutes and I already prefer the type of football that I’m seeing.

However, when you have people like obertan on the field, it completely negates all the good work you’ve done. Loses the ball every time.

  • 40 will die for the toon army // Jul 19, 2015 at 4:54 AM

They said Munure was in for Wijnaldum we got him.

They said Chelski was in for Mitrovic we got him. Fingers crossed

They say Liverpool and Arsenal are in forr Abdennour We will get him.

  • 41 Macas // Jul 19, 2015 at 4:56 AM

ilovetoon – Have to disagree, De Jong looks a class above the rest of the players

  • 42 honest fan // Jul 19, 2015 at 4:57 AM

Sissoko looks like his struggling against their left back a bit arrons will destroy him

  • 43 King Colback // Jul 19, 2015 at 4:57 AM

De Jong looks like he can’t be arsed

  • 44 toonicle // Jul 19, 2015 at 4:57 AM

We don’t have Mitrovic yet.. something bad could still happen there been burned in the past

  • 45 will die for the toon army // Jul 19, 2015 at 4:58 AM

De Jong has far from inpressing looks lazy and no killer pass no goals

  • 46 ilovetoon8788 // Jul 19, 2015 at 4:59 AM

    @Macas // Jul 19, 2015 at 4:56 AM

i don’t know what game you are watching. de jong has only played a few short passes when he got the ball.

nothing productive and looks like a headless unfit chicken. we should cash in on him if it means signing better players.

  • 47 santoon // Jul 19, 2015 at 5:01 AM

sissoko has been awful, tries to dribble so much and lost everytime, obertan has been the better winger, cisse been missing again

  • 48 toonicle // Jul 19, 2015 at 5:02 AM

He’s put in good passes when he gets a chance on the ball, however both Obertan and Sissoko have been poor and losing every ball they get so de Jong is lost in the middle.

  • 49 lukes26 // Jul 19, 2015 at 5:02 AM

I don’t know how this is even a question. De Jong was the best player of the first half

  • 50 Robby Bobson // Jul 19, 2015 at 5:03 AM

De Jong has played the best two balls of the game, first putting janmaat in one on one, then a lovely first time ball to papiss who was inevitably offside.

  • 51 will die for the toon army // Jul 19, 2015 at 5:03 AM

Mcclaren is this wat I woke up for

  • 52 LewSpi v2.0 // Jul 19, 2015 at 5:03 AM

De Jong just needs match fitness, I’m sure, he’ll get that sharpness back

  • 53 Macas // Jul 19, 2015 at 5:04 AM

ilovetoon – De Jong put Janmaat away one on one with the keeper. He put an exquisite first time through ball to Cisse who had just strayed offside, and had a header cleared at the end of the half. He’s not the type of player who is going to dribble past loads of players or go chasing players down too much, but he is always likely to play that killer ball or be in the right place to score because of his intelligence

  • 54 toonicle // Jul 19, 2015 at 5:04 AM

Yep he’s been class nice and calm good short passes as long as he stays fit he’ll be great for us

  • 55 Ashton // Jul 19, 2015 at 5:04 AM

Williamson is so horrible. I have no idea what we’ve done to deserve a player like him.

  • 56 YoungMagpieFromBurnley // Jul 19, 2015 at 5:04 AM

De Jong needs players that know how to play football ffs.

Bring on Aarons and Wijnaldum for obertan and sissosko(as they keep calling him) also bring on Perez for Cisse who has looked awful!

  • 57 will die for the toon army // Jul 19, 2015 at 5:05 AM

Anita and Capt. Colback good game.

  • 58 lukes26 // Jul 19, 2015 at 5:07 AM

I love these broadcasters…clearly winging it & making shit up as they go along.

Demba Ba sold for over 40 million. HA!

They know a lot about beer though it seems

  • 59 YoungMagpieFromBurnley // Jul 19, 2015 at 5:07 AM

No-one mentioning Krul? Best game he’s had for us in ages!!!

  • 60 JDdubai // Jul 19, 2015 at 5:08 AM

    First half

    Janmaat class again
    Willo – oh god
Lascelles looked solid – the commentator actually said he could learn a lot from Willo as he is much older!!
Haidara looked good going forward and ok defending
CM – busy, still thnik we lack a real presence there though in front of the CBs – like Tiote in his prime.
SDJ did ok, not hugely in the game
Sissoko hasnt done much, Obertan ran in a straight line down the wing but little end product
    Cisse poor

We still lack enough bodies or a genuine threat in the box when crosses come in – when it gets crossed in i dont expect us to get a shot/header on goal, it is a surprise when we do.

We still have the issue – when playing 433 or 4231 whatever you want to call it – when one wigner has the ball and is looking to cross, the other side winger should be busting a gut to get into the box to get on the end of it – we never seem to have this.

Few times Obertan had the ball about to cross and Sissoko on the other side makes no attempt to get in with Cisse. Perez playing wide would try i think but not many others.

  • 61 Bobbybee // Jul 19, 2015 at 5:08 AM

You do realise the whole point of these games is to get the players playing macca’s way. Already, there’s proof of a much tidier game with some quality touches. Resullt is of zero cosequences. So far we’re keeping the ball loads better. It won’t come overnight after years of crap coaching, but it’s on the right track.

  • 62 Robby Bobson // Jul 19, 2015 at 5:08 AM

We need a DM who can see whats behind him, Anita and Colback keep getting caught out by a single ball.

Abeid is good at reading those passes, against man utd last year (yes admittedly before he messed up and passed to krul) he intercepted absolutely everything.

  • 63 remember69 // Jul 19, 2015 at 5:09 AM

  • 65 will die for the toon army // Jul 19, 2015 at 5:09 AM

Williamson is the luckiest player. I think he is luckier than bramble.

  • 66 swemag // Jul 19, 2015 at 5:10 AM

Seen Obertan lose the ball a few times where Perez would have done something completely different. Indeed every manager thinks they can make a footballer of that guy.

And give de Jong a break. Soon enough the killer pass will come.

  • 67 Kris // Jul 19, 2015 at 5:12 AM

We do have Sisosko, right? xD

  • 68 honest fan // Jul 19, 2015 at 5:13 AM

  • 69 Kris // Jul 19, 2015 at 5:13 AM

Yah, Demba Ba was a “young player” at NUFC. And he is french too.

  • 70 will die for the toon army // Jul 19, 2015 at 5:14 AM

I told u guys Obertan is good at deceiving managers every manager thinks he can make a world class player out of him

  • 71 JDdubai // Jul 19, 2015 at 5:15 AM

If we can get a replacement Id sell Sissoko. Would happily use him to finance a shot at Shaqiri, reckon Sissoko would be up for that too moving to Italy and the excess in transfer fee wont be much.

  • 72 King Colback // Jul 19, 2015 at 5:15 AM

We are having problems pronouncing Wijnaldum they are having problems pronouncing all the players names lol

  • 73 JDdubai // Jul 19, 2015 at 5:16 AM

    Kris

Technically Ba is french as he was born there.

  • 74 Kebabacus // Jul 19, 2015 at 5:16 AM

I’m having a good chuckle at the ‘experts’ slagging De Jong…

He’s playing his third game after serious injury ffs! Shteve has probably ORDERED him to take it easy.

Despite this he has played some great passes. He is easily our most intelligent player.

  • 75 King Colback // Jul 19, 2015 at 5:16 AM

commentator just said darlow was in goal but that looked like woodman to me!

  • 76 lukes26 // Jul 19, 2015 at 5:17 AM

Gouffran started last game & obertan is starting this one. Doesnt mean they will be in the squad next season

  • 112 Flambino // Jul 19, 2015 at 5:54 AM

Haidara was having a good game before he was sent off. One of very few playing at an acceptable standard – Colback, Krul, Janmaat and that’s about it. If we get offered 17 million for Sissoko we should snap it up so long as the funds are reinvested. Ideally signing thauvin or berahino or both!

  • 127 JDdubai // Jul 19, 2015 at 6:06 AM

Id rather have Perez as backup to Mitrovic rather than Cisse – Cisse offer nothing.

Haidara and Aarons should be our left side, just need to keep them fit.

cabella is pretty slow even if he gets the ball past the player he not fast or strong enough to get on the end of it

  • 129 swemag // Jul 19, 2015 at 6:08 AM

    No goals.

  • 130 JDdubai // Jul 19, 2015 at 6:10 AM

    santon

thats why he is a no10 – he played there in France then we buy him and put him on the wing – only way round it is to have him play similar to Silva at City. Start wide but keep tucking in with the FB overlapping to keep the width.

    Result…
Great: Ayoze, Haidarra, Krul, Taylor, Woodward
    Poor: Willo, Obertan, Sissoko

  • 132 firebug666 // Jul 19, 2015 at 6:10 AM

Decent run out, poor red card, but we still cannot take our chances and score goals.

Wijnaldum is just settling in so was not expecting a lot from him.

    With NUFC It has been;
    Goal keepers – Excellent
    Defence – Poor
Midfield – Fast wingers and slow midfirlders.
Attack -A prolific striker every year.

The trend has gone on and on

  • 134 Geordiedownunder // Jul 19, 2015 at 6:12 AM

Sorry, didn’t mention Cisse in my round up….. Just recalled he was in the line up but didn’t notice him after that.

  • 135 DicBDownUnder // Jul 19, 2015 at 6:12 AM

very quick analysis of that. 1st half, fairly decent, unlucky not to score a few.
2nd half, absolute crap until Aarons, perez, bigwilly came on.

Williamson, only one on the pitch playing hoofball. Get rid, it was absolute rubbish.

Taylor, thought he was solid and played very well
Woodman made some quality saves, thought he played very well
Sissoko or as the commentators called him, sis-sos-sko, looked nakered by the 60th minute. Should have been taken off.
Aarons looked exciting, him, linking up with ayoze, they have so much pace and ability between them, they terrify the defence.
And the new boy, BigWilly, looked a class above the rest of the midfield. I know hes obviously fresh and came on late, but he looked very composed and confident. Good on him.

In addition, I also thought Anita showed absolute class today. He played the ball out well, got stuck in, and went forward well. Just shows that with good coaching and playing the game to players strengths it works. He was bought as that type of player, but pardew shafted him all over.

Glad to see he is finally showing how good he can be for us.

Overall, decent display, but I think those substitutions should have been at 45 mins. And I hope Shteeve sees how bad Williamson is and boots him darn sarffff

overall decent performance. can’t say anything as it’s just players getting up to fitness.

  • 139 will die for the toon army // Jul 19, 2015 at 6:16 AM

Wijnaldum wanted the ball all the time same with Perez and Aarons. Sissoko is a good player and will always start ahead of all those kids.

  • 140 YoungMagpieFromBurnley // Jul 19, 2015 at 6:17 AM

    Rolando Aarons <3

Sissoko, terrible performance! Looks like he doesn't want to be here at all, I mean, does he have to try and do everything on his own all the time? It hardly ever works out. Yet Aarons gets past a man almost certainly!

Don't know what people see in Sissoko, he is good in a team full of bad players because he can do stuff on his own, but now we are looking to play as a team he just looks bad.

Sell him if it funds the money for a quality CB.

Next game better be a team similar to this:

    Darlow
    Janmaat-Taylor-Lascelles-Haidara
    Wijnaldum-Anita-Colback
    Perez-DeJong-Aarons

A proper footballing team! De Jong as a false #9.

Shame we couldn't watch Wijnaldum properly in a 11 man team, stupid ref sending off a player in pre-season. Haidara was great too'

just landed london city airport on route to stamford shit hole

  • 142 Bobbybee // Jul 19, 2015 at 6:21 AM

Shame the red card spoiled it, because the ball flowed well until then. Only 2nd proper game and the difference is clear. Nothing like our first eleven either. I think macca will have them ready for the Borrusia munch-bunch game, complete with new faces. Aarons needs to stop the theatrics. He’s too good for that. Don’t want him getting a reputation for going down too easily, it’s hard enough getting a pen as it is! All in all, a good workout containing the stamp of our new coaches. And it’ll only get better. Time for bed zebedee – BOING!!

    Next game Wednesday morning

  • 144 santoon // Jul 19, 2015 at 6:26 AM

looked pretty good in defence always being available with the triangles just dont let cisse do it as his touch/passing is awful and nearly let a goal in cos of it

  • 145 The overrated Frenchman // Jul 19, 2015 at 6:44 AM

As noted, Sissoko and Cisse were both pretty dire. McClaren must be getting a sense of what he has inherited by now. Players like that who have undoubted ability but can only be bothered 50% of the time. Too many in our squad of that ilk I’m afraid.
