Report – Newcastle Very Close To Mbemba Deal For €10M

5:44 pm, Sunday, July 19th, 2015 by Dr. Ed Harrison · 268 Comments

The Mail is reporting that Newcastle are very close to the signing of Anderlecht center-back Chancel Mbemba for about £7M, and the player was not in the squad that faced Lazio in Brussels for today’s game.

Sportsmail is reporting that Mbemba himself asked not to be included in the squad, with his transfer to Newcastle said to be very close – and the signs are that he will follow his pal and team-mate Aleksandar Mitrovic to Newcastle in the next few days.

Chancel Mbemba-1

Chancel Mbemba – didn’t want to play today

In fact Aleksandar Mitrovic has been seen within the hour arriving at Newcastle Airport.

The reported fee for Chancel is said to be around €10M – which is around £7M.

And in addition to the Mail report, Atletico Madrid were one of the other clubs interested in signing Mbemba, who has 16 caps for DR Congo, and new today they have signed another center-back.

There is a report in Italy today that  the top Spanish side are about to sign Stefan Savic.

The 24 year-old former Manchester City defender and 32 times capped Montenegro International was left out of the Fiorentina’s pre-season tour at the last minute.

He was withdrawn from the tour 45 minutes before the squad was due to leave, and told a deal had been agreed to sell him to Atletico.

The report was put out by Italian outlet Gazzetta dello Sport and the fee quoted is £10.5M.

While we know nothing is certain (because of the Loic Remy affair) until the player passes his medical and signs along the bottom line – it does seem that Newcastle have won the race to sign Mbemba.

Having the two Anderlecht players on board at Newcastle will be good – because it will help both of them to settle in quickly on Tyneside.

Oh yes – I almost forgot – they are also two excellent players who will strengthen what were weak links in the team last season.

If we sign Mitrovic for around £12.5M and Mbemba for £7M, and since we have signed Gini Wijnaldum for £14.5M, Newcastle will have brought in three players that cost us £34M so far this summer.

That would be a good start, but we still need at least two more top players brought in – one more center-back and one more striker.

How about Charlie Austin of QPR and Monaco center-back Aymen Abdennour?

Comments welcome.

Only seen this lad play 3 or 4 times but from what I’ve seen he looks like a beast! It’s awesome that we’re being seriously linked with CB’s like him!

Great Info BamBams, first up with the news, quicker than SSNHQ, you the man.. 🙂

    Who’s coming in next?!!!!

Get yourselves on betfair exchange boys, just had £15 at 25/1 we get top 6, don’t really expect it but massive price considering we seem to be putting the club in order…

    It where we belong…..

  • 5 lesh // Jul 19, 2015 at 5:50 PM

Now, will he go for another CB or gamble on Collo, Saylor, Dummet, Lascelles?

I’d guess they’ll stick with Collo with Lascelles being eased in for this season.

  • 6 JackButler // Jul 19, 2015 at 5:50 PM

Any hope of a decent season rests on replacing Williamson, Captain Fantastic Colo and Saylor, the rest of the squad isn’t to bad tbh

  • 9 geordie157 // Jul 19, 2015 at 5:53 PM

Getting these two in will be great business by the club. If we can get the likes of Abdennour and Shaqiri as well, then that would be a great window!

Oh and Byram or Holgate as rb cover.

  • 10 juan // Jul 19, 2015 at 5:53 PM

Anybody think we’ll still go after Charlie Austin?

  • 11 JackButler // Jul 19, 2015 at 5:55 PM

For us to get Austin, someone will have to be sold as there’s no way we will carry five strikers

  • 12 Noel Worst // Jul 19, 2015 at 5:55 PM

Watched extended highlights of him on Youtube. Looks lazy, if an attacker gets a yard on him when anticipating a cross he just gives up, easily fended off by big strong STs as he hasn’t really got a big frame. Has a decent leap, but at not even 6ft he needs it.

I know highlights don’t tell the the whole story, just what I gleaned from watching 5 matches. Here’s the best example, in the thick of the action at both ends:

I don’t understand selling Mbiwa then buying this guy for more money.

I’ll just put it down to good, solid defending not making for good highlights. Not as excited by him as some thought.

    Repost from last thread

Does anybody know anything about mbemba, watched a wee bit of him, seemed like a mapou yanga m’bia. Same height, fast, versatile, only real difference is mbemba seems a bit stronger. I think people are only gettin excited over him purely cause we need a defender

  • 18 YouCouldn'tMakeItUp // Jul 19, 2015 at 5:57 PM

I think Colo will be gambled on this season, as he looks set to retain the captaincy. If the mbemba signs, and plays well, and we can also bring Lascelles through, then we might be ok (id rather just sign 2 cbs but unlikely now). We will know by January if its going to go wrong, so we can buy/loan another cb then if needed.

  • 19 YouCouldn'tMakeItUp // Jul 19, 2015 at 5:58 PM

    If the mbemba??? Wtf?

    If mbemba*

  • 20 JDdubai // Jul 19, 2015 at 5:59 PM

I cant picture Colo staying and being a bench player, doesn’t seem to fit properly. I think IF, and its a big if, we get 2 CBs in then i think he is the one to leave.

Saylor and Willo will be happier to be backup i think and then Lascelles will be the work in progress for the future.

Even if we dont get these players it nice to see people starting to believe it could be possible, rather than recent times when we all knew it would never happen. The blog is a better place with some hope.

  • 21 JackButler // Jul 19, 2015 at 6:00 PM

Having Colo as captain is like employing a mute as a public speaker. The guy shouldn’t even be wearing the shirt let alone having the privilege of being our captain, if any player needs to shipped out and replaced its that waste of space

  • 22 YouCouldn'tMakeItUp // Jul 19, 2015 at 6:02 PM

Markass some important information about this lad from Ed yesterday.

At most he’s 26 due to turn 27 next month, if indeed he was born on 30 November 1991 – otherwise he’s 20 due to turn 21 next month, or 23 and due to turn 24 in November.

    Hope that helps…

  • 26 YouCouldn'tMakeItUp // Jul 19, 2015 at 6:03 PM

But hasn’t SM already said he is staying?

  • 27 doofa the loofa // Jul 19, 2015 at 6:04 PM

  • 28 YouCouldn'tMakeItUp // Jul 19, 2015 at 6:05 PM

    Yeah i saw that 😀

That first scenario makes no sense though. If he was born 30th november, he cant have his birthday in august!

  • 29 Jail for Ashley // Jul 19, 2015 at 6:05 PM

    Jack Butler,
I honestly can’t see them bringing in two CBs and as much as I’d like to see Collo replaced due to his shite attitude, it would be pointless having him here and on the pay roll. So a partnership with him and this new lad might not be so bad.

  • 30 will die for the toon army // Jul 19, 2015 at 6:05 PM

We have a signing that will sweep us off our feet says Lee Ryder. I think that Abdennour and Austin.

Colo, Willo and Taylor hitting 30 doesnt look promising. Pound for Pound.

Durmett, Lasceles and Good dont provide good hope.

  • 31 JackButler // Jul 19, 2015 at 6:06 PM

This is football and we all know that things can change quickly. If SM has said he’s staying I’d be disappointed tbh as he’s simply not good enough and we need a true leader at the back and Colo has never lived up to that imo

  • 32 the ledge // Jul 19, 2015 at 6:06 PM

Well if the reports on him from Belgium are true we are geting a young kompany

  • 33 Shadow_Shearer // Jul 19, 2015 at 6:07 PM

Anybody who thinks we are going to buy two new centre backs, fat boys will have already counted Lascelles as one of them. That’s why we are only after one more!

  • 34 YouCouldn'tMakeItUp // Jul 19, 2015 at 6:08 PM

Yep things can and do change quick in football. Still think willo goes before colo, though.

  • 35 JackButler // Jul 19, 2015 at 6:08 PM

Even if he does stay he should be stripped of the captaincy as we need a leader, someone vocal, someone calm and someone to lead by example and Colo fails on all those counts

  • 36 YouCouldn'tMakeItUp // Jul 19, 2015 at 6:09 PM

Knowing our luck we will sign Bad Kompany

  • 37 Reyantoon // Jul 19, 2015 at 6:09 PM

while difficult what might happen behind the scenes in transfer business,it looks like the addition of Mbemba that sway or persuad Anderlecht officials to sell Mitrovic to us.Don’t know Mbemba well but i don’t think he was our primary target.great effort from Nufc to fight it out till the end to land him.Looks like Charnley knows what he’s doing afterall..

  • 38 Jail for Ashley // Jul 19, 2015 at 6:11 PM

Living in the real world I suppose we can’t complain if we do only bring in one CB but I think it will be madness if they bodge over RB cover again.

  • 39 JDdubai // Jul 19, 2015 at 6:12 PM

This guy is oNly 6 ft though, putting him and Colo together wont work. They both need a big tough CB next to them, gods not Willo!

Abdennour would fit the bill, then release Colo, Saylor and Lascelles backup, Dummett after that, Willo off too.

  • 40 Jail for Ashley // Jul 19, 2015 at 6:16 PM

Fully 100% agree with that, his attitude and behaviour have been totally unacceptable over the last two years. Williamson deliberately getting sent off, his Everton red was blatant shirking.

  • 41 goommy // Jul 19, 2015 at 6:16 PM

If we got him and Mitrovic we are ready for new season. No more striker. Give Ayoze chance!!

  • 42 Noel Worst // Jul 19, 2015 at 6:17 PM

Leadership roles should be given to those who are natural leaders, you can’t make somebody in to something they’re fundamentally not. Our natural leaders are SDJ by all accounts and although not particularly considered one before his arrival, Janmaat has demonstrated he too is one that steps up and takes responsibility and is thorough pro.

There are no other candidates in our squad as far as I’m concerned.

  • 43 Jail for Ashley // Jul 19, 2015 at 6:18 PM

  • 47 Jail for Ashley // Jul 19, 2015 at 6:22 PM

We need a RW and RB cover as well. People forget that we were so short of quality and numbers last year, Sameobi, RTaylor and Guti got regular game time. Ok we have Aarons, SDJ and Tiote fit again but we don’t have the other three at all.

  • 48 optimistic prime // Jul 19, 2015 at 6:23 PM

With Mitrovic signing I hope we forget Austin as good a player as he is and go after a striker/winger thats rapid. Our team still lacks pace up top, thats why so many teams can play quite far forward against us as Cisse is never going to out run anyone is he. Quick attackers scare defenders the most they can’t get forward as much as they’d never catch back up, speed is whats needed in the team.

  • 52 JackButler // Jul 19, 2015 at 6:26 PM

Do we have anyone coming through the ranks that can give cover at RB?

  • 53 check the toastie // Jul 19, 2015 at 6:27 PM

Anybody come up with a signing that would really prove this regime has changed, Lee ‘the mole’ Ryder reckons we gunna get a feet sweeping signature, wonder who that could be?

Can’t be British PL star as we don’t pay enough salary, very much intrigued?!!

  • 54 magpiesi // Jul 19, 2015 at 6:28 PM

These players coming here is all good for the future. A bit like cabaye we pulled that off and the rest knew his quality and followed from France. Mitrovic bangs them in and helps us climb the table even more players want to come. Remember cisse first 6 months had us right up there but Ashley missed a trick the next summer.

  • 55 JackButler // Jul 19, 2015 at 6:29 PM

Hahaha. Toonbrother doesn’t seem to loke colo very much. At least thats the impression i get.

Just read one of those ten things you need to know about this Mbemba lad.

Plays CB but equally at home at RB or midfield.

I think this is as close to RB cover as we’ll get.

  • 60 Pizzicato The Arizona Geordie // Jul 19, 2015 at 6:32 PM

Comparing Yanga-Mbiwa with Mbemba may be legit, but Yanga-Mbiwa is Pardew-ed and he was played out of position at RB. Hopefully SMC is not that stupid.

    (Bicycle Made for 2)
Gini, Gini, score us a goal or 2
Keep on smiling, all over Sky Sports News
    You’ll become an honorary Geordie
As you lead our team to glory
And you’ll look sweet, on the top front seat
On the bus round St James’ Park

    (The Monkeys – I’m a believer)
I thought Mitrovic was just a fairytale
He’d sign for someone else but not the Toon
But he’s now a Geordie, and scores his goals for fun
We will score six, while you just score 1
At St. James’ Park, Mitrovic the Geordie
Hear the Geordies roar, from miles around
I’m in love, Mitro’s a Geordie, and he’ll be the, best in town

  • 63 JackButler // Jul 19, 2015 at 6:34 PM

I think Austin would be seen as that big time signing, he’s proven in this league, homegrown and would cost the best part of 15 million, but if he does come in then who goes out?

  • 64 Munster Mag // Jul 19, 2015 at 6:34 PM

Shaqiri that’s a feet sweeping signing but last I heard ( rumours on him he wanted to go back to Germany)

12m tho a bit of a bargain for that type of player if true.

  • 66 Jail for Ashley // Jul 19, 2015 at 6:35 PM

Haven’t got a clue about the U21 RB, was going to ask that myself to be honest.
Simply isn’t acceptable, what happens if this guy forms a good partnership with Collo, that has to be interupted to play at RB, same with Anita.

  • 67 YouCouldn'tMakeItUp // Jul 19, 2015 at 6:36 PM

If there is a wonder-signing on the cards, i would think it will be a wide foward. Somebody with a final product both crossing and shooting…..

….I have no idea who that would be.

    Pedro? 😀

  • 68 will die for the toon army // Jul 19, 2015 at 6:36 PM

Mbemba comes then for Austin or Abdennour to come we have to first sell players. Now Carr and Charnely come back to England to begin the exodus.

Taylor can play there (if he is ever fit).
Colback will play wherever he’s told, and could cover a few places IF he isn’t seen as the player upon which the midfield is constructed and anchored.
    And Anita if not Colback.
Not vouching for it, just saying it might appeal to wor lot.

  • 71 JackButler // Jul 19, 2015 at 6:36 PM

Funny how people form an opinion of Mbwia when he no real time to settle into life in the PL, was played out of position and playing for a team that was devoid of confidence and surrounded by a toxic atmosphere

  • 72 Jail for Ashley // Jul 19, 2015 at 6:37 PM

When Mbwia signed people were drooling over him, he started to look ok as well until he got shunted out to RB, to expensive to have him or Collo on the bench.

Mbiwa was colos future REPLACEMENT. They both play better alongside a more physical CB. They should not have been played together there. Mbiwa also was a competent LB, should never really have played at RB. He was neither used nor developed properly.

  • 78 Jail for Ashley // Jul 19, 2015 at 6:43 PM

It wouldn’t be my choice but it’s how this lot works, they like players to play 2-3 positions instead of master of one.

I thought there was a decent defender in M’biwa but he never got a real run at CB to show it.

    Oi aye, I forgot.
Reading that list on the Mbemba and it says he’s a ball playing CB and would be Colos replacement, maybe he’d be playing with Saylor or Lascalles.

If it is different maybe it’s this lad plus Abdennour..

  • 88 Munster Mag // Jul 19, 2015 at 6:54 PM

That may be true but i doubt it jail. There is no evidence of that. The real story is that carr was the boss and he bought players that he felt wud grow in value. He didnt buy guys that pardew wanted. That was a flawed approach. Ucmiu, mbiwa wasnt good. Players have to take responsibility too.

  • 89 Shaker Shakrah // Jul 19, 2015 at 6:54 PM

We need a playmaker who can defend and pass and attack

  • 94 JackButler // Jul 19, 2015 at 6:57 PM

How many games did Mbwia have in his true position?

Just because he didn’t hit the ground running doesn’t mean h e wasn’t good enough as the vast majority of foreign players need time to settle, and when they are being played out of position and for a side that’s struggling it will take even longer for them to find their form

  • 95 Tsunki // Jul 19, 2015 at 6:59 PM

Shaker a little uncharitable on that pair, although I agree colback will not add anything except to a holding side. Anita is a little more creative though, and as we’ve seen, when used in the right way (west ham game) and with sufficient confidence in him (west ham game) and motivation (west…) will actually add to the attacking impetus of a more creative side.

  • 96 Jail for Ashley // Jul 19, 2015 at 7:00 PM

Yes Munster, that being exactly my point. If Pardew didn’t like it he could have walked but instead he took an eight year deal that gave him no say at all. So Alan Pardew done very well out of being Mike Ashleys patsy in the end.

Munster @88 I think the real story was this – Pardew was the installation bought at the behest of Ashley as a credible team manager. Charnley the money man was tasked with budget restriction. Carr was Charnleys purchasing manager, Pardew was expected to manage the players bought under this strict monetary remit and with the neanderthal coaching team imposed on him. Not one single line of blame, just a woefully stupid hierarchy which almost got us relegated a second time.

Here is an accurate quote from Graham Carr.
“However, Alan is different. No matter how hectic his schedule is he will find time to go to watch a player who I have recommended. That’s a great commitment.”

Please stick to the facts as we know them and don’t post stuff which is clearly not true.

Mbiwa is gone, what should/shouldn’t have happened, did and it’s too late to change that.

We’ve been linked with so many players this window, 100+ as far as reports go, that it’s almost become a theoretical game of football manager, perm any 5 to replace him, him, him, him and him.

We have favourites of whom we’d like to see, who would improve us and who should go, been playing it myself.
There’s such a positive vibe about the Toon after the doom and gloom of p45dew and charver.

From what I saw of him in the Sacramento match Taylor had a decent game. The defence was a bit more steady in the second half and he is always ready to throw himself in front of the ball, as he did!

If he was to stay fit I think he’d be worth keeping.

30 isn’t old for a CB, they are a bit like GKs and are often better around the 30 to 34 mark.

  • 125 Jail for Ashley // Jul 19, 2015 at 7:18 PM

I certainly don’t think Mclaren cares about his bank balance either as he must be seriously wealthy, what I mean by on the take is that by doing exactly what Pardew done he might guarantee his place at the table of PL managers rather than the lower leagues where he has been for the last few years, 54 is not old for a manager.

    CB – Abdennour..Veltman..De Vrij.. Van Dijk.. Matip..Tomkins..

    LB – Rodriguez(Wolfsburg).. Willems(PSV)

    DM – Banega

RW – Townsend.. Thauvin.. Lennon (not really sure who we should get)

and hopefully we get Austin too.. then we have a really strong squad for next season..

    Janmaat Mbemba New CB Willems

    1. Pardew is not a hero of mine. I;m glad he is gone. I just dont believe in laying all the blame at his door like some.
    2. Where do you thunk a player has to accept personal responsibility for his performances? Not when it comes to Pardew obvioulsy.
    3. Its been well documented that Carr and Pardew were at loggerheads on the players needed
    4. Mbiwa wasnt good – end of. He didnt like heading the ball and he was rash in the challenge and panicky. Of course this is all the coach’s fauly isnt it ?

As someone pointed out earlier, the balme for our demise lies with pardew, Sshley, Carr, Charva, players etc .
Finally, in defence perhaps of Mbiwa. its a fair point that players can take a while to settle, eg Colo. But if this new guy is the same as Mbiwa it wont solve our issues, We deffo need a monster in there beside him.

Just to put the record straight on Mbiwa, he was bought as a defender who could, and had, played for his previous club in central defence, at RB and at LB.
He played for Montpellier at LB during the season 2008/9 and for them at RB in the season 2009/10.
The idea that Pardew played a CD out of position on the flanks is totally incorrect.

Austin might be the traditional CF that keeps defenders occupied while Cisse , Perez , Aarons and Mitrovic can feed off his knock downs and physical presence.
Only problem now is that Villa have £32m from selling Benteke and another £9m from selling Delph.
They are now rumoured to be after Austin to placate their disillusioned fans.
They missed the deal to sell the club and must now be relegation candidates.
Austin would be crazy to join them and as Mrs. Austin seems to like the good things in life I can’t imagine that living somewhere off Spaghetti Junction would appeal.
    Let’s see .
If Austin and others see what progress and plans NUFC have then they should be knocking on our door as clearly we are a large club with ambition.

    Don’t rate Tiote ?

Tiote is the one player that makes a massive difference when it comes to winning the ball back in the middle ..

I know it was only a pre season friendly but I feel that The Newcastle midfield Suffers from lazyitis when we don’t have the ball ..

I don’t like the way we operate when we don’t have possession..

De Jong is without any pace but he’s a good footballer with good feet and he’s a good thinker ..but …but..he needs to wake up when we don’t have possession..positionally he gets into the right areas but there is no sense of urgency ..same goes for a few others in the squad.

Saying all that its a pre season friendly and best not to judge fully at this stage as there are no hard 50/50’s going in at this stage

The Americans and the Mexicans played as though they had something to prove ..made us look sluggish ..

Tiote is what’s needed..I would not set the team up without him . There is not a lazy bone in his body , he’s like a hound when the opposition has possession.

De Jong is carrying a bit of timber and needs to wake up.

Ashley still gets the right deals as bandb posted the incentives reported about mitrovic newcastle contract.

Belgrade get €1.6m of fee but nothing mentioned about anderlecht having any future sell on percentage due to them.

He always gets what he wants mind you it’s the full fee in one go not many clubs can do that it’s normally spread over the players contract. That’s why Porto struggled to match our bid as they only got €10m euros 1st payment for Jackson Martinez of a Madrid.

    On Colback.

I know that when you aren’t watching in 3D you can miss things you see at the stadium.
And I have friends who say Colback is a Trojan and others who think he’s ordinary.
Someone said earlier, and it is true, that when he signed, most posters were of the view he’d been bought as cover.
He had been unable to become anything like a key player in a very ordinary Sunderland team.
I thought he’d start. As Carver said, “give me 11 Jack Colbacks”.
I see a player who is caught out of position, leading to rash late challenges.
Because I am not there to watch in person, I make a point of watching him very closely on the telly.
And what I see is one of the first players to give up the chase on an opposition break, and the first who’s head literally hits his chest after we concede.

If he made a sub, and we lost, it was always his fault for making a dumb sub – that type of thing. And i wud say that most blokes were weighing in behind that. I mean he was a tool at times , but seeing him do well at Palace shows he has some ability, although the hope is that he does the second season mess. Been mentioned previously, but I’ll agree that Jetro Willems would be the perfect foil for Mitrovic.
An exceptionally creative lb, great vision and ability, fantastic crosser and with Aarons would cause mayhem to opposition defenders.
Value approx £7m, 2 years left on his contract

I think if we spend the 63m on Mitrovic, Austin, Wijnaldum, Abdennour, Mbemba.

We can get back 23m from Willo, Colo, Mauveux, Vickic, Elliot, Cheick, Cisse.

WE have a net spend of 40m which we already have in e bank.

Sometimes the time and the circumstances bring disparate people together.
University is a good example. Graduation day comes, the band splits up, someone gets married. You go down different paths. You become different people. It’s what the greatest Geordie comedy is all about. And Ziggy Stardust.
The band probably isn’t going to reform.
Do your solo stuff, and a new one might emerge.

Not sure I agree 100% with that view OG
Tiote could be amazing, but over the piece still leaves a lot to be desired. So far he’s had 48 cards – approaching one every second game. 118 games for the Toon over five seasons so 24 games a season (give or take). One goal 2 assists. 22 clean sheets so 1 in 5 for his Toon appearances.

He is replaceable and probably approaching his sell by date if he’s not past it.

  • 206 Blackley and Brownlie // Jul 19, 2015 at 9:02 PM

Nothing wrong with your head going down when you concede. Provided you pick it up again immediately.

Although Colback had two or three poor games, I thought he was one of our better players last season, perhaps even the best (although it wouldn’t have taken much). My mate, a Sunderland supporter, rated him highly when he was there.

I did used to get invited to hospitality at various events (I once sat between Bob Murray and his wife) and therefore later saw Colback play twice in the dark, dark cellar.
He was a bits and pieces player then.
He had one blinder and one mare. I can’t deny he has his fans among people who see him for us at closer quarters than me.

Totally agree with u mate.. tiote is at his best when cabaye is still around..after that his performance is awful…

    B and B:
There’s nothing much different between Colback Anita Tiote.. indeed Colback is one of the best performer last season but still he lacks the creativity and he can’t cover the back four very well.. that’s why I hope alongside Gini Mitro and Mbemba (hopefully) we can also get a new DM who is much better than those 3..

BandB, I made the comments about Colback earlier today, you’re correct in your assessment, I’ve seen him in person, in 3D and on normal telly and it doesn’t make much difference, he’s always out of position which leads to our useless centre backs being left horribly exposed

  • 223 Lee Charnley Bunga Party // Jul 19, 2015 at 9:21 PM

Could it have been that Cabaye was so good that he made Tiote look decent ? Because it seemed the only times I seen Tiote play good was in a midfield 3 with Cabaye and Anita funnily enough ….apart from that game against Man Utd the 3 nil home win the rest of the time he has been shite

Found this on CNN, sounds like he’s actually 25: “I was born in 1990,” said the defender. While in an interview with the Sharkfoot website in April 2012, Mbemba said: “I don’t understand. Fabio Baglio told me that I had to go to Africa to come back to Anderlecht later… Anderlecht’s managing director told me I will sign a professional contract in August. The chairman of La Grace will sign a document to confirm my date of birth as 1994 and I can come back.” Doesn’t seem like the lad’s deception, more the clubs/associations involved. At least it makes SD_NUFC seem less Machiavellian!

  • 259 Jail for Ashley // Jul 19, 2015 at 9:59 PM

Any regular user of the blog will know that the reason I like him is that on the day he signed, some old bloke who knew his football and watched all the Dutch football on ESPN rang Total Sport and was absolutely raving about him, called him a Terrier and best passer of the ball he’d ever seen, it had to be heard to be believed. My thoughts after that were that he was only bought because they thought Cabaye or Tiote would go for 20M that summer and he never actually felt wanted.

  • 260 jesperfuglsang - capt'n awesome of the lemon crew // Jul 19, 2015 at 10:00 PM

Mitrovic looking good! I’d like Austin better mind.

Munster is right on everything Pardew like, things got way out of hand on here right from the start and with some strange posters over the full 4 years. How people can judge fully with his hands tied like this club is beyond me. The board was to blame alot more than any coach. He never got to build his team. You were always judging Carr and Ashley’s team.

It’s the quality in depth and Ashley’s second string once injuries occur when the serious problems arise. But hold on???

    It’s the manager.

  • 267 switch365 // Jul 19, 2015 at 10:10 PM

Was comparing with regards to valuation vs skill, obviously 1 is a striker and the other an attacking midfielder.

If we did buy Austin, he’d not be playing up front as that seems earmarked for Mitro/Cisse (injury/suspension permitting), he’s more likely be played as the left or right, in which seemingly Ziyech would be an even better fit.

He’s not had his first full international call-up yet, though would most likely be given a chance to step up from Dutch u21’s.

  • 268 davis_toons // Jul 19, 2015 at 10:21 PM

He was playing like a winger! ..i hope we wont miss the stability of Williamson.

Just don’t like his inaccurate long ball and too much staying at the back when is a good time to break forward that causes us to lose a lot of attacking chances.
