Aston Villa Odds-On Favorites To Sign Newcastle Top Target

A deal has been agreed between Aston Villa and Liverpool for the signing of Christian Benteke, and it looks like Villa will get around £32M  for their Belgium striker, and to think they paid £7M for him three years ago from Genk.

That must qualify as a Mike Ashley type deal, and Liverpool continue to pay out huge fees for their new players.

Villa manager Tim Sherwood will now have to bring in at least one  top striker to replace him, and that’s why Aston Villa are now odds-on favorites to sign Charlie Austin from QPR.

charlie austin qpr

Charlie Austin – now odds-on to join Aston Villa

Sherwood has been linked with his former striker at Tottenham, Emmanuel Adebayor, and there’s news they will bid £15M for West Brom’s striker Saido Berahino, as well as that for Charlie Austin.

For the £32M they got for Benteke, they could but both Charlie Austin and Saido Berahino and still have something left over.

Aston Villa are now odds-on favorites at most betting shops to sign Austin, with them being 4/6 odds-on at Skybet and 8/15 at Betfair – to name but two.

Newcastle are second favorites at 2/1 and 5/2 respectively at those two betting shops.

And to think the betting was halted on Newcastle getting him only last week, but that also happened back on June 20th with West Ham looking like they had won the race to sign him.

But the betting odds seem to go up and down like a yo-yo,  so we still think we have a decent chance of getting Charlie Austin to Newcastle – but we had better move for him now and pay the full £15M for him.

If Newcastle are still not willing to pay the full amount for him, Aston Villa will – and they will beat us to the striker with a £15M offer.

If that happens it will be like in years gone by, when we have held out for a better deal – in this case by about £2M – and another club comes in quickly and seals the deal by bidding what the selling club want.

It would be deja-vu all over again for Newcastle.

    We don’t need Austin
If Ed had checked more odds for Villa , they are one of the growing favourites for relegation as well.

I mentioned in previous comments that Villa were awash with cash after selling Benteke and Delph for some £40m and plenty of comments out there that they would chase Austin to placate their fans.
But the club is for sale and would be purchasers backed off as presumably they saw that Villa are more likely to go down than up.
Charlie needs to think about what type of club he plays for – passionate ambitious 52,000 fans at NUFC or stuck in the middle of nowhere in the West Midlands listening to the traffic at Spagetti junction. If Mrs. Austin wants a quality of life she would do well to stamp her foot on Charlie moving to Villa.
QPR to Villa is hardly a career move.

Can you find some other theme.
The calling of Charnley is starting to make you look stupid.

I’m fine with this. After Mitrovic we don’t need Austin. We’ll most likely play with one up front. We have Mitrovic, Perez and Riviere.

I’d buy another striker, but someone younger with potential. Austin needs to be a starter which he probably wouldn’t be with Mitrovic around.

please don’t take this as a “I forgive you” msg , but for the first time in a long time I’m happy to be an nufc fan, he “Ashley ” has put together a good coaching team , they have assessed what we have at the club and are addressing the playing staff with quality players that are used to playing at the top end of the table,

it may have taken him 8 years “off pure hell” but I see us moving in the right direction , where as Liverpool are IMO moving in the other direction, Rodgers threw his back room under the bus to get one more season, when he made all the decisions , karma is going to catch up with him.

as for this article , pick 2 defenders as long as one is Williamson I don’t care, captain Colo I like but should be more vocal and is getting old, Saylor could be good but gets injured way to often , and seem to think what ever manager we have in place is the bees knees , he waxed lyrical about joke in ear, but he is brave or some say stupid,

I think top 6 this season , £100 going on that to

Did,nt think we would follow up the Austin deal after Mitrovic decided to come.
Ashley may of eased the purse strings but i doubt he would let SM spend nearly 30M on one position.
It was said we had 40M to spend so with the Mbemba deal, that leaves us with 6-7 M to spend, and imo i think tht will be spent on a CB, unless we generae more funds by selling one or 2 of course.

if we will get Mitrovic, we should buy not Austin, but go for Berahino/Rolán…that is type of forward to complete our jigsaw, quick, good finish and can play both wide and in the middle…but first bring Mbemba and go for Abdennour, then Berahino/Rolan…

It’s a tricky call to say that Villa will blow a lot on players.

It’s well known that Villa are up for sale and whether the owner’ll be keen to commit the club to major expense and tie a player to a long term deal.
I’d suggest they’re more likely to go for a cheapie, loan or a free.

However, the point if the article is whether we want Austin or more likely, Berinho who would seem to be a better investment.

It was mentioned between 40-80M availible…
    Wijnaldum 14,5, Mitrovic 12, Mbemba 7,5…thats 34…and we need another CB Abdennour/Rudiger type 15M, Berahino/Rolan 15M and that would suit perfect…

AVFC didn’t set the Premier League alight-granted. ‘Passionate and ambitious’ you may well be but we were separated by 1 point and 3 goals. Is that more of an attractive prospect than Villa for Mr & Mrs Austin?

some interesting striker moves the prem this year. hopefully mitro can show what he’s made of. think we might need another striker alongside him. although i couldnt see mirto and austin playing together regularly. they are both target men strikers for me. Mitro and perez could form a great partnership hopefully!

I’m not convinced that Austin was ever our top target.

Given the almost certain complications, length of time and the perseverance of the club to get Mitrovic it points towards him being the top target and not Austin.

1000% me, and why shouldn’t i ? 🙂 , I have championing Steve Macs name since the begining of last season, good player are coming in, and IMO I believe we already had a pretty good squad that was mismanaged, I know I could do a lot better than both p45 or charver,

I have always said I’m am a very positive person , but I speak my mind and say it as I see it.

lord know I was right about p45 from a very early stage , the seaon we finished 5th IMO was a total fluke and in some ways I feel we could and should have finished higher, but he bottled it,

it’s going to be different 🙂

Agreed. New backroom staff, new and attack minded head coach and two cracking signings. I’m totally positive right now. Newcastle won’t “click” from the get go but if we buy like this in the future windows we might be a force to reckon with again.

We’re actually going to try to win maatches playing on the deck again this season and that alone is new, exotic and f****** beautiful:)

I think a some of the players in the States know they are in the last chance saloon.
On NUFCtv for NUFC24/7 part 3 they give Haidara one of those telescopic rod camera thingies and he goes everywhere with it.
    Very insightful.
For example Obertan’s attitude stinks and he’s permanently got a face like a smacked arse (not that it’s ever been beautiful)
I think some players have been told to pull their socks up or they are offski

I don’t see us in the top six.

If we did get in the top six then it would mean that one of either Chelsea, Man City, Arsenal, Man Utd, Spurs or Liverpool would have had a truly disastrous season, which I cannot see happening.

I do think that we have a far better chance in knocking either Southampton, Swansea, Stoke or Palace off the top ten places.

I do think we will be better than Swansea, Stoke and Palace. However, it might be a close run thing with Southampton.

When McClaren said something to the effect that everyone has a fresh start it was only polite phraseology for either ‘shape up or ship out’.

What is interesting is there is a lack of rumours about other clubs coming in for our players. I fully expected rumours about Cisse, Sissoko and Tiote.

Just reading that Mehdi Abeid might be on his way back to France with Lille and Montpellier interested.

It is a shame with a guy that we have nurtured but at the same time with th current crop of midfielders I don’t see him coming into the team.

Or should we sell Tiote while we can, save some salary money and get a nice fee.

For Abeid, you just can’t keep on loaning them out forever, can you?
