Newcastle Want To Sign Young Dutch Sensation

9:11 pm, Tuesday, July 21st, 2015 by Dr. Ed Harrison · 183 Comments

There is a report that Newcastle are interested in signing 21 year-old Feyenoord winger Jean-Paul Boetius, who joined the Dutch club when he was just six years old back in 2000.

The talented winger picked up his first and only cap so far for Holland last year in March, in a friendly game against France at the Stade de France in Paris.

Jean-Paul Boetius – 21 year-old Feyenoord winger

Newcastle probably hope to get a good deal on the youngster, since his contract runs out next summer.

He has played 96 times for Feyenoord over the last three seasons, with 20 goals and 17 assists. and he has played 26 times with four goals (combined) for the Holland U17, 19 and U21 sides.

Newcastle have already signed Gini Wijnaldum from PSV ten days ago, and we now have five Dutch Internationals in the squad, and if we can sign this promising young winger then that will make it six.

Jean-Paul plays on the left wing and he is valued at around €5M (£3.5M) on the web-site.

It may be that Newcastle have turned their attentions to the 21 year-old, after missing out on long term target 22 year-old Florian Thauvin of Marseilles.

Newcastle have been unable to agree a fee for the talented Frenchman with his French club, and may have decided to move on.

In March, north London rivals Tottenham and Arsenal were both said to be anxious to sign the Dutch international, who can also play on the right side, and the fee at that time was said to be £5M.

The report of Newcastle’s interest is in GOAL,  so we don’t know how accurate the story is – but Chief Scout Graham Carr has been scouting in Holland last season.

We cannot find any reports in Holland or in England on Newcastle’s interest in this player – so maybe take it with a pinch of salt.

But after signing Mitrovich today – even if Tottenham and Arsenal are interested and we are really keen on the 21 year-old – Newcastle could still be in with a chance of getting him to Tyneside.

Here’s some video on the player they call the young sensation.

Comments welcome.

Sign him up and get rid of Obertan.

With all this Dutch malarkey, SMc is risking the ‘Shteve’ tag sticking… Good on ye Mc, taking one for the toon!

If I remember right we have a option of another year in Keemans contract.

This kid has been compared to Ryan Giggs and we all know what a crock he was.

  • 6 jazzyp // Jul 21, 2015 at 9:25 PM

Fulham in for Rob Elliot I see for a mill. He’s third choice now and with Woodman coming through, A good move I think for the lad

  • 7 overtheline // Jul 21, 2015 at 9:25 PM

Let’s face it the Dutch international side is a good few places higher than England in the ratings league – so their internationals should all be quality players.

Reports from our man in London- Fulham have made a bid in the region of £1m for out of favour Newcastle GK Rob Elliot

Regarding strikers- after Mitrovic- Newcastle expected to put their full efforts into getting Charlie Austin over the line

  • 10 Lee Charnley Bunga Party // Jul 21, 2015 at 9:29 PM

We should keep Elliot as 3rd choice and loan Woodman out because if Krul or Darlow get injured we would back to throwing Woodman in at the deep end like Alnwick last season

For the sake of 1 million ! Pretty sure Elliot would be happy to be 3rd choice

  • 11 Jib // Jul 21, 2015 at 9:30 PM

Elliot is 30 next year , we bought him for £500,000 if we get £1,000,000 that’s a great bit of business !

  • 13 geordie157 // Jul 21, 2015 at 9:32 PM

    1mill for Elliot, done!

Loan Woodman out and bring in Harps as a 3rd choice with a coaching role.

  • 14 TheToonKing // Jul 21, 2015 at 9:32 PM

no, stop ! stop with the good players , I can’t take it !! 😀

  • 15 ShirebrookToon // Jul 21, 2015 at 9:33 PM

I’d rather we turned our attention to strengthening our defensive line than going for Austin. I don’t think he’s worth 15 mil

  • 16 jane // Jul 21, 2015 at 9:33 PM

    “get rid of Obertan”

I think he is a decent squad player at least for now. he seems happy not to play much and in some matches early last season I thought he played his best ever football. useful experienced player to have as backup IMO until the squad is significantly improved.

  • 17 jazzyp // Jul 21, 2015 at 9:35 PM

I agree mate. Lets get the clear out started for the fresh blood.
as for the injuries that ravaged the keeper dept last season, No one could have for seen that and would have decimated most PL teams.
And im sure Elliot himself stated he wanted more game time last season and was looking to move on if this couldn’t be gauranteed

  • 18 geordie157 // Jul 21, 2015 at 9:35 PM

we should say 1mill for Elliot and we’ll throw in Williamson as a goodwill gesture.

  • 19 spaghetti bandit // Jul 21, 2015 at 9:37 PM

Ben yedder would be a great signing,, don’t think either darlow or Elliott would see themselves as 3rd choice,, wouldnt begrudge elliot becoming Fulhams first choice and making a career for himself and hopefully get a promotion,, always spoke well when interviewed..

  • 20 lukes26 // Jul 21, 2015 at 9:41 PM

My only question is, why doesn’t Koeman want him if he’s so great

  • 21 optimistic prime // Jul 21, 2015 at 9:42 PM

If I miss remember why was he expecting to fly to the USA to meet the squad after the under 21s?

  • 22 toon22 // Jul 21, 2015 at 9:42 PM

Cant get to grips with the way this transfer window is unfolding, were going about things in a logical and informed manner.
A talented winger would be logical next step, they probably need to shift a CB before they can buy one.
We dont need a striker unless Cisse is sold,if he is Austins an obvious choice since he is English and is pritty much the same as Cisse.
As for CB they will probably go Dutch lol

  • 23 Jib // Jul 21, 2015 at 9:42 PM

    Please please please don’t.
Obertan has not got the first clue about football.
He’s fit and athletic granted but he hasn’t got any idea about footy.

  • 24 Lee Charnley Bunga Party // Jul 21, 2015 at 9:44 PM

Would be quite buzzing if we do sign Austin but I cant see us spending 15 million on a player to sit on the bench !?

Would be amazing if we did mind you but just cant see it !

  • 25 toon22 // Jul 21, 2015 at 9:46 PM

RB cover is going to be Anita.
    LB cover Dummet.

Wernt we trying to get Ashley Cole as our LB,if so this Dutch kid would be perfer although im not sure what formation that leaves us with.
Whice is nice after all these years.

  • 26 Jail for Ashley // Jul 21, 2015 at 9:47 PM

Was going to say pretty much exactly the same thing, wouldn’t that have been bizarre, a word for word post at the same time. We’d have carl, Ian and sack Llambias all over us !

  • 27 Fostino // Jul 21, 2015 at 9:49 PM

I’d ship out goofy…before obertan. …get townsand and I’d happily ship out both

Ship out cisse…riverie and I’d happily welcome austin…New no. 9

Ship out Willo. ..colo…..hello chancel and Ashley Williams or the monaco lad

    Ship out Elliott full stop

    Replace marvo with this lad

    tiote for fer

    Cabella for thauvin

  • 28 Polarboy // Jul 21, 2015 at 9:49 PM

According to the Chronicle we haven’t given up hope of signing Thauvin yet. I think I’d take Thauvin over the young Dutch lad going by how each is rated. I think some people think Thauvin is Cabella mark 2 but that’s unfair to both. Cabella came into a terrible set up and struggling team and wasn’t played in his favoured position. Thauvin is his own man and is more of a set piece, ball playing winger.

  • 29 Toon-Prodigy // Jul 21, 2015 at 9:51 PM

Im hoping Cisse is away and Austin is his replacement.

But knowing the Toon Cisse will be away and Mitrovic is his replacement!

  • 30 King Colback // Jul 21, 2015 at 9:53 PM

Jesus just seen on news that after Leeds United lost to Eintract Frankfurt in Austria around 100 Frankfurt fans in balaclavas attacked Leeds fans. What is this world coming to?

We need meathead centre backs pls

  • 31 Jail for Ashley // Jul 21, 2015 at 9:53 PM

I’d very much like to see Obertroan and Marveaux gone, and as much as I’ve liked him throughout his career, I’ve ran out of patience with STaylor, that ridiculous elbow against MCity that time was the final straw for me, say what you will but I would have Williamson in the squad way over him.

  • 32 Jib // Jul 21, 2015 at 9:54 PM

This injury to Cabella could be a blessing in diguise for the lad.
The club cannot move him on and he’ll be back to full fitness just as the Winter injuries start kicking in.

  • 33 Jail for Ashley // Jul 21, 2015 at 9:57 PM

Now that we have what I hope is a Mitrovich/Perez partnership I think Cisse will be very handy to have around, Austin will want to be a regular starter where as Cisse as got no choice but to fight for his place, this makes players better, something we have been missing for a long time.

  • 34 Belfast // Jul 21, 2015 at 9:57 PM

1 million for the fat goalkeeper sounds like bullsheet

  • 35 Our Toon // Jul 21, 2015 at 9:58 PM

Doesn’t matter where Cabella was or wasn’t playing, enough with the excuses for him. Throughout the season you’d like to think he’d show more quality than he did, when you ask fans about Cabella they keep pointing to Chelsea away where he was worked out in 45mins and didn’t score or assist & Hull away.

Playing in the wrong position has nothing to do with being piss poor at shooting, missing sitters, not being able to create chances and doing stepovers when not required slowing down attacks and letting the opposition reorganise. Get rid of him

  • 36 jane // Jul 21, 2015 at 9:58 PM

just looking at the stats I didn’t realise that 23 of Obertan’s 53 appearances were in the 2011/12 season when we came 5th. I can’t remember that but he must have been doing something right that season at least?

  • 37 Lee Charnley Bunga Party // Jul 21, 2015 at 9:58 PM

Yeah we would be getting accused of having multiple accounts and all that !! My previous account was Santon the new Maldini its the only other one I have used!!

Yeah I would prefer us to spend 15 million on a top drawer defender to be honest as well as Mbemba

  • 38 Our Toon // Jul 21, 2015 at 9:59 PM

Sammy Ameobi was more productive than Cabella!!

  • 39 Our Toon // Jul 21, 2015 at 10:01 PM

Obertan and gouffran both are shite but I’d rather keep Gouffran as he’s done ok considering the amount he was bought in for. Obertan though isn’t as versatile as Gouffran.

Elliott needs to stay, 1m no thanks we all remember Alnwick last season let’s not be in that position again.

  • 40 Toon-Prodigy // Jul 21, 2015 at 10:03 PM

Im thinking the club want to cash in on Cisse he’s at the age. The ever important resale value! He would be good for back up like and competition for places.

  • 41 Lee Charnley Bunga Party // Jul 21, 2015 at 10:04 PM

We do need wide men who can create though with pace to stretch teams on the counter

We also need a set piece expert not seeing anyone in our team who will score a couple a season?

  • 42 Sazzer // Jul 21, 2015 at 10:05 PM

I was more keen on Ben-Yedder before we bought Perez.

Back then he seem like perfect budget player to buy and sell for profit and then replace with Armstrong.

  • 43 mickalfas // Jul 21, 2015 at 10:08 PM

People are really against Cabella aren’t they, truly amazed he gets such pelters on here

He had a tough first season playing under dodgy management and was handled terribly, people are all for give Anita another chance after season upon season of him not showing up “because the team style didn’t suit his game” but Cabella is out the door?

  • 47 TacoFlavoredKisses ForMyBen-arfa // Jul 21, 2015 at 10:13 PM

exactly, people got down on him for losing the ball when trying to make something happen by himself. Aside from perez who would you excpect him to pass the ball to? it was a talentless pitch. how many times did he set up rivi? he should have had at least 5 more assists last year? he deserves a chance to play with upgraded squad.

  • 48 Jail for Ashley // Jul 21, 2015 at 10:13 PM

Elliot is a ROI GK, not many teams have an international as their second/third choice.
If we’ve turned a corner then this purple/re sale policy has to be re thought.. Ok Cabaye might not have any resale but now Palace know he will be there until he retires or goes to the MLS or returns to France, players that will improve a team don’t have to be sold.

  • 49 Jib // Jul 21, 2015 at 10:14 PM

He had 18 appearances and one goal that season
Ryan Taylor 23 and 2 goals (he was full back)
    Leon Best 16 and 4
    Danny Guthrie 12 and 1
    James Perch 13
    Danny Simpson 35
Just goes to show you shouldn’t place too much reliance on stats
Any way what am I arguing stats for , I’ve seen him with my own mince pies – he’s shyte !!!!

More than enough to get at least another season for me

  • 57 Toon-Prodigy // Jul 21, 2015 at 10:19 PM

  • 61 Jail for Ashley // Jul 21, 2015 at 10:20 PM

Obertun played so many games that season because if rumours are to be believed Pardew bought him, he was dire as was RTaylor at LB, team spirit and luck brought us that eleven match unbeaten run before HBA and Cisse we’re introduced to finish off the season which very nearly went t1t’s up due to a lack of CB cover..

  • 73 Our Toon // Jul 21, 2015 at 10:29 PM

    Wwsbrd & Taco

On Cabella I give him alot of stick because the lad was arguably the worst signing of last season in the league. I keep reading well under new management he should do better. ….well isn’t that the case for all of them then? Why sell anyone?

Out of the players playing in his position last season only obertan was less productive than Cabella and that was by 1 assist. Gouffran and Sammy both out did him in terms of goals. Now consider how much they are worth and the price of Cabella, we had a Greggs pasty loving Arfa at the club prior to him and so many would blast him for being inconsistent or performing once in 7 games yet Cabella gets praise for what exactly?

Granted 1st season etc but even still he should have shown more quality than he did, Gouffran in his first year was ten times better, Cabella isn’t being judged on how he plays for NUFC he’s being judged on how he played for montpellier.

I agree Riviere who is worse missed some sitter than Cabella set up but he missed sitters that everyone set up for him. For 7m or even 12m I’d expect much better than the shite Cabella served up last season

We could have got transfer action much quicker. By bringing bad publicity to Mashers shops, unfortunately there were too maany people out there who don’t really care enough to bother. I have mates who hate Ashley but wouldn’t give up time to go and march, let alone to protest outside of shops, there is also the problem of public opinion, those who don’t follow the club closely still think that we are being run sensibly by a multi billionaire.

People seem to think that certain players will come good under different managers. Riverie, we simply have to give a chance or he will become another Xisko, Cabella showed once he has got it but Obertroon and Marv have been given so many chances I don’t think Jose Mourhino and Blackley and Brownlie could get the best out of them.

The thing with Williamson, he has done some pretty alright work for this club. But now and again he does things that just makes you wonder if he really is a footballer.

Further, if we look at taking this club forward, that would mean probably signing at least one CB, possibly two. Then for me it is clear that Colo, if he stays and also Staylor is ahead of him. Then we also have Lascelles and a whole hoard of young prospects that sooner or later needs to be given a chance.

Bottom line, thanks for the service but it is time to go.

  • 138 Sazzer // Jul 21, 2015 at 11:45 PM

I still think Cabella have potential unlike Gouffran, Riviere and Obertan.

But potential is not performance so a deal can certainly made where we get most of our money back and find someone else that will suit this league and our team better.

  • 139 swemag // Jul 21, 2015 at 11:45 PM

Tiote, one of your favourite players, I used to agree, got his name on my top.

Still, where do you see him in the team this year? Starter instead of Colback or Anita, or a backup?

If as a backup, is it not better to cash in and keep Abeid for that backup role?

  • 140 jane // Jul 21, 2015 at 11:47 PM

probably add Dummett do the list of CBs. don’t think Williamson can be a regular for 5 premier league season and be that bad though. not saying he should be starter especially if reinforcements arrive but Williamson could fill in if called upon (when 3 are injured or suspended).

  • 141 swemag // Jul 21, 2015 at 11:51 PM

Dummet yes, time for Good to be given a chance maybe? Two years ago Good played in the League cup final with Bradford, I know he has been injured, but how can he not be given a chance, at all?

  • 142 matt11_25 // Jul 22, 2015 at 12:14 AM

Yes Jane, I haven’t a clue why after signing 2 players to a paper thin team so many bloggers want to shed so many players who make decent squad players and are happy doing so. Also, though Rivi may never make it in the team now, I wouldn’t write him off based on a few performances within a squad playing like shite. He definitely works hard and has a better touch/dribble than Cisse.

  • 143 matt11_25 // Jul 22, 2015 at 12:16 AM

Only QPR shipped more goals than us. And they got relegated.

So we are going into this season with worst defence in the Premier League.

  • 145 calvinzolamakongo // Jul 22, 2015 at 12:24 AM

Why we all hate obertan soo much whenever he has a run of games 1st one he goes missing but gane after game he just gets better and better like season just gone he turned our rubbish start around equalizing agaist leicster? Then was one of our best players until he got injured agaist liverpool/tottenham? • 148 Our Toon // Jul 22, 2015 at 12:42 AM

Yes Cabella one of the worst signings in the prem last season, I didn’t say Riviere because french media had already said he’s pants amd we over payed for him. Cabella on the other hand we payed alot for so for his apparent ability he was the biggest disappointment.

Hugo Viana was a gifted youngster we payed alot for when Sir BR was manager but just because you are gifted doesn’t necessarily mean you’ll make it or be a good player. Cabella desperately needed to have a good pre season but his injury will hamper him, he’ll need to improve every facet of his game though and improve it big time

  • 149 Our Toon // Jul 22, 2015 at 12:43 AM

Fergie said he was the best player in training but he gets nervous in front of a crowd so he under performs. He’ll be better off at a QPR where 17k turn up

  • 150 Novocastrian66 // Jul 22, 2015 at 12:45 AM

It’s too simplistic to blame a poor defensive record on the defenders. Similarly it is wrong to blame the lack of goals on poor strikers. The players were clearly not performing for J.C. and Pardew was / is inept.
Players have to believe in what they’re doing otherwise they will under perform. They did not appear interested for most the games I watched last season., with the odd exception. Too many players played regardless of performances because of; a lack of competition for places and poor organisation. These factors are more than likely the main causes of our dismal record at both ends of the park.

I would get rid of Cisse – whilst he’s scored some good goals he’s missed many more.
He cannot hold the ball up at all, he cannot dribble and the only scoring he’s doing at the moment occurs off the field. Time to move him on.
In respect of Mr T. I would keep him -Wally may be able to get a bit more out of him. Stop his pirouettes and possession losing when he has his back to the opposition and he could regain his destroyer title.
We still need at least 2 quality players this window to form the basis of a team. When that is achieved I’m sure those “wanting” will be replaced.
Trying to right years of neglect, poor management/coaching will not happen overnight.

  • 172 Our Toon // Jul 22, 2015 at 2:24 AM

Obertan is a poor imitation of a winger, I’ve never known someone with so much pace be so shy in taking a player on. Time after time he’ll take 2 steps forward and then pass it back. He prefers low drilled crosses, all in all he’s distinctly average and no doubt on decent money so get rid in my opinion.

The season we finished 5th it was Jan when we really kicked on amd that was thanks to the return of HBA in the team at the expense of Obertan. Cisse, HBA and Cabaye were outstanding during that period.

  • 173 Our Toon // Jul 22, 2015 at 2:26 AM

    Mister Tuff

I disagree regarding Cisse, all strikers miss chances and agreed cisse doesn’t offer much other than goals but the most important thing is goals. I’d take Cisse’s attributes over Riviere all day long.

  • 174 will die for the toon army // Jul 22, 2015 at 2:30 AM

    Mister Tuff

I dont think we need to sell all the players especially the ones we have been seeing as the dependable ones like Cisse, Colo, Taylor and Cheick. If we keep them there will b competition for places and an improvement in the squad.

Sell the deadwood of Elliot, Willo, Marvuex, Vuckic(kid is way below e pecking order)

  • 175 honest fan // Jul 22, 2015 at 2:32 AM

Really like the look of this player and he would be fairly cheap worth a punt
Obertan ain’t that bad chaps he skins players with his pace someone just needs to teach his how to cross the ball higher than 1ft off the floor and to not be scared of putting his foot into a challenge and to maybe not leave the ball behind when dribbling at speed ok maybe he ain’t good lol Obertan out!
Williamson well think everyone has said everything already we should just give him away for free maybe a pub team or something

  • 176 expatmag // Jul 22, 2015 at 2:36 AM

  • 177 will die for the toon army // Jul 22, 2015 at 2:37 AM

    Our Toon.

The time we finished fifth every one contributed. We jst had a bad November and part of December. it was a balanced team with few injuries. Guthrie, R. Taylor, Willo and Perch came in as Back up when required and did their part.
Obertan was ok in the first half of e seasonbut wen Hatem came he was so superb.

  • 178 Mister Tuff // Jul 22, 2015 at 2:42 AM

I would give Riviere one last chance – well up to the start of the season. Obertron is fast but it’s usually without the ball -he’s scored only 6 league goals from Bordeaux to here in 9 years- even taking into account his time off with injury -poor return. He’s also renowned for not wanting to put his head in.
Unless Wally can find a better way of playing Cisse/getting him involved more I would sell him as overall he does not contribute much to the team.

  • 179 Mister Tuff // Jul 22, 2015 at 2:46 AM

I would say not yet but he’s got potential to be.

  • 181 expatmag // Jul 22, 2015 at 2:49 AM

Well old mate. That is why I am do knowledgeable about football and a half decent coach who can spot ability in a player a mile away and you can only live on past memories of being a thug of a centre half with the skill factor of a gnat……lol

I saw enough in those few games last season that if coached and managed properly, Obertan could prove to be a very hood asset offensively for the team.

As you well know, defenders fear fast wingers who can get decent service into forwards. Both Aarons and Obertan are well capable but both seem to have confidence issues. That is where a good manager with a decent knowledge of psychology comes in.

I had an issue similar to this with a reserve player at my club a few years ago. I saw his potential, gave him the self confidence to perform and in the space of one season, turned him into the best player in the league. I can see McLaren and Co. doing this with Obertan which those previous dinosaurs in charge were unable to see or do.

Never under estimate the power of psychology in football.

  • 182 honest fan // Jul 22, 2015 at 2:50 AM

Really he contributed the most important thing of all and that was goals
I agree he ain’t the best but he has a nack for getting goal when playing really badly so I think he could still come good personally

  • 183 Big Archie // Jul 22, 2015 at 10:48 AM

Love the comment that Obertan is a good squad player. Problem is top 6 teams dont have squad players. They have good players fighting for games.
As for Jail For Ashley comment, Marveaux was never given a chance. He was lining up behind Cabaye and Barfa. He’s decent and will show it when he gets the chance
