Two Top Players In For £27M – A Good Start

Newcastle announced the signing of Aleksandar Mitrovic from Anderlecht this morning for £12.5M,  and that came 10 days after we had brought in our first singing of the summer in Gini Wijnaldum of PSV for £14.5M.

Those are the 4th and 3rd highest transfer fees ever paid by Newcastle,  with the likelihood that we will soon be seeing Anderlecht center-back Chancel Mbemba joining Newcastle for around £7M – hopefully in the next few days.

New £12.5M signing Aleksandar Mitrovic at Newcastle

So Newcastle have brought in two really excellent players to fortify the squad which certainly needed strengthening after the second half of last season.

Newcastle were simply pathetic under interim head coach John Carver, and we went for a stretch of 10 successive games with just one point – the worst run of results ever in the Premier League ever by Newcastle – and that included eight successive defeats for the first ever in the PL too.

It even looks like Newcastle are now trying to re-establish the name of Newcastle United as a top club in England,  after we were almost dramatically relegated – and with five minutes to go in our last game of the season at home to West Ham – that was still a possibility.

That should never be allowed to happen again.

It’s now looking like Mike Ashley was really serious when he said he would give the Board a stack of money to spend this summer, and then leave it up to them as to which players they would bring  in.

Ashley also left it to the Board to select the new manager, which turned out to be Steve McClaren.

W now could be headed towards one of our best transfer windows for a long long time, but it’s still only two players we have brought in.

Newcastle now need at least thee more players of the caliber of the two we have just signed to make the summer window a success.

If Newcastle can do that, then it will have been a very good summer for us – and then we need to start getting some good results next season.

Here’s hoping we can have a really good upcoming season – for a change.
