Mbemba To Have Newcastle Medical Tomorrow

5:48 pm, Wednesday, July 22nd, 2015 by Dr. Ed Harrison · 160 Comments

It seems that Chancel Mbemba has his heart on joining Newcastle, and he has said as much today in comments which have been reported widely,  that it’s his dream come true to be signing for Newcastle – no ifs ands or buts there from Chancel.

And there’s now news in in Belgium that he will travel to Newcastle tomorrow to have his medical.

mitrovic and Mbemba in training

Aleksandar Mitrovic and Chancel Mbemba at Anderlecht
To be re-United at Newcastle

The report is that now that Newcastle have signed his Anderlecht team-mate Aleksandar Mitrovic for €18M (£12.6M at today’s rate of exchange) – Newcastle will now concentrate in the next few days on getting his team-mate at Anderlecht signed up.

They say the plan is for the 20 year-old defender to travel to England tomorrow, have his medical, and if everything goes well on Thursday, then he will  be signed on Friday for €12M – £8.4M.

Chancel will be getting a five year deal at the Magpies. much like his team-mate Aleksandar Mitrovic signed yesterday.

That sounds like it could even be true, because the player himself has said the deal will go through, once some details have been agreed.

That was very similar to Aleksandar’s case, when he said yesterday the hold up in his transfer was a small gap in the fee Anderlecht wanted – and what Newcastle wanted to pay.

Assuming the deal goes through Anderlecht will have transferred two of their top 20 year-olds to Newcastle in the last few days for a combined total of €30M – £21M.

They are two excellent signings for Newcastle.

Comments welcome.

Still not sure he is the answer, but I guess its a start.

Is it not fair to say shearer had an attitude problem? He had an issue with being benched by Gullit….does that mean shearer was a trouble causer

You’ve picked out 1 occasion in his career, how many times was this repeated?

  • 3 optimistic prime // Jul 22, 2015 at 5:53 PM

    Our toon

It’s like the bollocks written about Mitrovic being a bad un.

The Serbian Balotelli and he’s crazy.

If you read the actual transcript of his head coach from Anderlect what he said was, he may look crazy because of his hair and tatts and has been likened to Baloteli but he’s the hardest working and most dedicated player ive ever worked with and he is determined to succeed.

Change a few words and it’s, Crazy Mitrovic the Serbian Baloteli.

Weak and pathetic like the people who lap it up.

Newcastle still keen on doing a deal for Jöel Matip. Has always been number one defensive target, but Schalke reluctant to sell #NUFC

  • 6 optimistic prime // Jul 22, 2015 at 5:56 PM

There’s two ways to look at XS moving clubs.

The he’s a bad un, no one likes him.
He wants to play and doesn’t want to be where he isn’t wanted.

Why people choose to beleive the 1st without any real evidence is beyond me.

  • 7 Bambams // Jul 22, 2015 at 5:57 PM

I must confess mbemba looks an old looking twenty year old….

    Roger Milla comes to mind.

    Hope he is only 20

  • 8 King Colback // Jul 22, 2015 at 5:57 PM

Newcastle would prioritise another defender, striker, and wide player before going for someone like Shaqiri. #NUFC

  • 9 Sazzer // Jul 22, 2015 at 6:01 PM

Berahinho and Berardi would be ideal. But that would probably cost 1 Sterling. Yarmolenko and Carrillo seem like cheaper alternatives along with Shaqiri, Thauvin Volland Bellarbi and so on

    Mr Magpie // Jul 22, 2015 at 6:00 PM

I am not saying Pardew may not have had an influence on him joining.

I was only saying none of these other teams came in for him or seemed willing to pay him a £100k a week with a guaranteed starting place.

If Arsenal, Chelsea, Man Utd, Man City, Liverpool, Spurs had come in with the same offer i find it improbable he would have still gone to Palace.

  • 11 croftus5678 // Jul 22, 2015 at 6:03 PM

thank god for mbemba now abdennour pretty please i’ll sleep at night then.

  • 12 Noel Worst // Jul 22, 2015 at 6:04 PM

Don’t know why everybody is so keen on this Abdennour. Quick across the ground and athletic, but poor in the air, not that he doesn’t win headers but he has a weak header and often times the ball just hits his head rather than him directing it and when he does get purchase on it he has a habit of heading down back in to danger zones. Definitely not a 15m worth of player and ACON participation is another minus.

I’m at a loss currently as who I’d like to come in and partner Mbemba, none of the CBs we’ve been linked with appeal.

You not read the articles about his apparent age? he rekings he’s had scientific test to prove his age, some say he’s 21 or 22 or 26 so how can any one be sure! just some kid born under a tree under the stars one night.

Seems problem with the TOON is they seem to be after plenty of players but Charmless can only deal with one transfer at a time.

  • 18 Marty-Toon // Jul 22, 2015 at 6:09 PM

We’ll see how McClaren tries to turn Obertan into a player like many before him.
Surely Obertan can look at Rolando Aarons and see what needs to be done to achieve his goals,he’s got the speed and skill, you’d think he’d have learned to be more direct by now(hopeless case maybe).
Still think we could do with Austin and let Rivière go.
    One commanding CB now please

  • 21 Sazzer // Jul 22, 2015 at 6:16 PM

I think we should avoid Nkoulou, Matip and Abdennour now with Mbemba in because of ACON.

  • 22 Polarboy // Jul 22, 2015 at 6:17 PM

@King Colback. To be fair to soccersauce for a twitter rumour page they have been correct on all our signings so far, and a fair bit earlier than most, but what sort of comment is that they will be prioritising other players including a wide player instead of Shaqiri. Last time I checked Shaqiri is a wide player.

  • 23 YouCouldn'tMakeItUp // Jul 22, 2015 at 6:18 PM

No acon this season, so i would be ok with 2 african CBs, as long as lacelles develops and we pick up an non african cb next summer.

  • 24 YouCouldn'tMakeItUp // Jul 22, 2015 at 6:19 PM

Shakiri was a wide player, but he has lost some weight recently.

I’ve seen a few people joke about Mbemba’s age but I read an interview where he is quoted as saying that he went through medical tests to prove his age. Apparently you can determine’s someone’s age through bone density tests.

  • 59 LGFUAD21 // Jul 22, 2015 at 6:54 PM

    Very excited about this guy.

    Especially with Mclaren there.

Sadly Mapou was not given the right platform to develop here. This guy shows even more promise.

Mitrovic has all the ability but, like Cisse, it is crucial he gets the right service.

The sane can be said for Austin.

For this reason I think we still need 1/2 wingers in.

Aarons is looking a decent prospect again but apart from that we have an injured Cabella (who i still feel could come good with discipline). Apart from those two we have Gouffran and Obertan.

I think we really missed out on not signing Ayew.
Shaqiri has now been brought up which would be excellent.

I think so far we have done good business but we need more.

I’m also concerned by the unbalanced midfield.

Tiote – Written off. Some think he still has a role, others dont.
Anita – Appears to have won the favour of Mccalren and showed well in the last game of the season.
    Colback – Mr Consistent
    Wijnaldrum – I think a brilliant Purchase
Sissoko – Very similar to Wijnaldrum, better dribller but poorer pass and finish and discipline defensively.
Abied – Jury is still out.

If we play a 3 man midfield, fine but I still dont see a proper CDM.

I think Sissoko and Wijnaldrum are too similar to play together. Especially if you have a greedy ball hog like Moussa, you need protection.

If we play a 3 man midfield you also have to consider De Jong for the AM role.

If we play a 4 man mid – De jong occupying a striker position if any – then you are going to have a lot of unhappy CMs sitting on the bench/reserves and poor wingers either side.

It worries me because potentially we wont be giving the back 4 the protection it needs and on top of that we wont be giving the striker the service they need.

With current squad i’d say our best line up is

    Aarons – Mitrovic/Cisse – Perez/Cabella
    ——————–De Jong———————-
    ——–Wijnaldrum – Colback/Anita——
    Haidara — Saylor — Mbemba—Janmaat

Not a bad looking team by any means but to rely on Aarons for a season would be a gamble. Only really De Jong, Wiji and Janmaat are proven assist givers (and 2 only proven in Netherlands).

This team looks like it could do fine if dominating possession – though may lack the creativity to unlock teams. But would it be able to break up quick attacks from the opposition?

  • 62 usmagpie // Jul 22, 2015 at 6:57 PM

Ok if this one is true then not a bad start Newcastle United. Now here’s the crunching question, WILL Newcastle go after another CB and Striker.
I for one would like them still to go after Austin and get another CB, we could off load Williamson and Cisse or Riviere. Come on Magpies lets get this one across the line and lets get the other two positions covered. I mean can you imagine Mitro and Austin up front, that’s looks on paper like a huge handful for most defenses.

just watched the match from this morn >.<

satka/fergusson just aint gonna make it or atleast shouldnt and i know fergie played in wrong position.

goofy and anita just dont have the quality for an avg prem side imo.

bigi looked very tidy and i'd place him ahead of anita and even abied as he hardly lost anything and kept a cool head with good vision and passing and was strong also even though again he was played out of position i'd place him as 3rd choice behind tiote/colback in dm

i prefere ober to sissoko on the right wing and i know ober is very inconsistant but so is sissoko and tbh if we get a decent offer i'd sell him as i prefere siem/wij/colb/tiote with bigi as cover for central mid.

arma and woodman was great i cant fault either and aarons must start every game possible if we are playing wingers as mitrovic will love him.

  • 69 Ian Toon // Jul 22, 2015 at 7:09 PM

Lilongwe – I wasn’t around this morning but read your comments on the composition of the team and players playing out of position in the friendly.
McClaren is on record along with Mourinho as saying in England young players are not taught to be multi-functional. It’s not just about knowing one position and only playing in that one position. Strikers ideally need to move, have to cross and have to do this in a 4-4-2, 4-3-3, in 3-5-2

  • 81 overtheline // Jul 22, 2015 at 7:20 PM

I can see the interest in Matip even though he’d be offski for the ACN. – he’d be able to play DM in front of Coloc and Mbembe as well as alongside either. That could be a massive bonus in terms of options for the starting 11.
I’d prefer another DM and CB but I’d rather Matip than no DM or CB.
Still feel a good two footed wideman/winger is a higher priority than Austin.

Leroy Fer isn’t a DM never has been and never will be, he’s more attack minded. Tiote can do well if he rediscovers himself under McClaren (like so many say about Cabella he’ll be playing under a proper coach now)

A defensive midfielder for me has to be someone who very rarely ventures past the halfway line, sits in front of the back.

  • 92 Tsunki // Jul 22, 2015 at 7:31 PM

TFL yep too exciting for you!

Big Steve – a distinct possibility. Dickie Eggnogs unbathed hordes are not so busy hunkering down for another year of pathetic rubbish that they can’t get up to their usual mischief. I’m waiting for their ‘big signing’ that will signal a few Wum’s turning up here for a ‘north east top dog’ claim or two.

  • 93 Lilongwe Geordie // Jul 22, 2015 at 7:32 PM

Just finished Gaelic Football training, and at the bar. Thought I’d check on things, but as you directed a post at me I will respond.

Firstly, what you say is true, players are taught positions before they are taught to be comfortable with the football properly. However, Ferguson isn’t going to ever be a centre half. My issue was not necessarily that they were playing out of position. It was the fact they were all dropped in as starters, when in my opinion there should have been greater rotation in previous friendlies.

I later accepted McClare’s explanation of the pitch, I hadn’t realised it was a 3g pitch when I made the first comment. But I still feel that he could have made more changes for the previous 2 games rather than wholesale here.

Players should be adaptable, but all will have a preferred role, and some will have attributes that suit a certain position, and few others. It isn’t something you can throw a blanket over and cover. It depends very much on the individual.

Formations are increasingly fluid. Most formations at the top sides are adaptable either between defence and attack, or dependant on the scoreline.

Question here : SM & Co did know in advance they would be playing on a 3G pitch, right? Didn’t we have a USA friendly where the hosts pulled up their astro and turfed the pitch especially for our visit? I just wonder because you can’t just turn up with your usual turf gear and not acclimatised for 3G, it’s asking for serious knee and ankle problems.

You would have to assume they knew. It would be negligence on their part to not be aware. Whoever organised this tour has made a complete balls up of it. I can’t imagine it has seen a huge boost to the club’s brand (or SD) and the level of football has been poor – particularly that last arch, a reserve team on astroturf.

ok….so Mbemba is at least on the doorstep just hasn’t come in yet. Feel confident this is a done deal. Where we go from here is anyone’s guess, but the thing we all agree on is that the business can not be done. I do worry however, that this might just be the last piece of business we do.

If not, then please let it be another CB so that we can push Willo out to sea. If we are done dealing at CB then we will only ever be as good as the weak link there no matter how strong Mbemba might be. And it would appear that none of our others are quite up to spec.

  • 115 Ian Toon // Jul 22, 2015 at 7:51 PM

Lilongwe- I posted to you more in hope than expectation of a response. Henceforth, looking forward I do expect us to be more tactically aware. It would not take a lot to make us more fluid.
Long ball football from the back has largely stemmed from having( not always but often) two stopper CB’s. I would not have a problem for example having Janmaat alongside a big CB. Simply because Janmaat is a good passer of the ball and can advance with it into midfield.

I have a feeling that once Mbemba signs we won’t buy again until we have sold first. The 3 players we have bought comes to around 36m which is what we had in the bank already. I can see us selling Cisse,Tiote,Cabella, Willo’Colo and maybe Sissoko. and then going on another spending spree.

Evening by the way ladies and gentlemen.

  • 124 Lilongwe Geordie // Jul 22, 2015 at 7:59 PM

I think Cathro is our best signing so far this summer. I first came across him when he was at Dundee, and was impressed. Followed him closely since.

The best improvement I have seen so far under McClaren and Cathro is the shape when the keeper has the ball.

Even as little as 5 years ago most coaches would have the full backs dropping wide to collect the ball short. So far in pre season our centre backs drop deep and wide, with the full backs higher up , hugging the touch line. It allows Anita/deep midfielder to drop into the central space. Provides options. It can only be done with a deep midfielder and centre halves who are comfortable.

As for Janmaat centre half, he did okay their last season, but who plays right back? Janmaat offers so much offensively which you lose with him as a centre half.

  • 135 Ian Toon // Jul 22, 2015 at 8:06 PM

Rotonda- I was equally guilty of largely writing him off because of his failure to qualify for Euro 2008. When it seemed highly likely he would get the job I found that he had moved on and was a very different manager from the European experience.
He’s (Mc) said when considering ManU playing 3 at the back that it’s only effective if the opposition play with two out and out ST’s. This was in defence of his decision to play 3-5-2 for England’s Euro 2008 qualifier in Zagreb. He said subsequently apparently that it was only a mistake because he overly estimated an England side that could only play with a back four.
He does seem to have lived and learnt – he’s our most experienced Coach/ Manager since SBR. Time will tell.

  • 141 Tsunki // Jul 22, 2015 at 8:11 PM

Ian you would hope he is coming to the peak of experience as a manager now. I think this job is his biggest test since the England days. He’s come a long way round to get back here. I don’t think he wants to blow this chance. I hope not anyway. I’m prepared to be pleasantly surprised, even though when he was first mentioned I was distinctly yawning.

  • 151 Lilongwe Geordie // Jul 22, 2015 at 8:21 PM

Big, strong, a vocal organiser, good on the ball and solid in the tackle. Plus had good Orem experience.

The fact he is an organiser makes him ideal. Shawcross and Williams would fit the bill as well, Shawcross would be excellent as well, but I think Reid fits the playing out from the back better. Willis is tipping 30 and is 5years older that Reid, so probably rules him out at NUFC.

  • 152 Ian Toon // Jul 22, 2015 at 8:21 PM

Lilongwe- In an ideal transfer window we would secure two CB’s meeting my stated criteria – as above and Janmaat our best defender would remain as RB. I just don’t want to have to endure what we had defensively last season because it has ramifications throughout the side as to how we play. It would enable us to play a higher line and at a higher pace. Interestingly SM has already mentioned the need for the side to play at a certain pace. Again last season when we weren’t launching the ball forward we were frequently at SJP far too slow in our build up play.

  • 153 Mag52 // Jul 22, 2015 at 8:22 PM
