Newcastle Battle PSG And Sampdoria For Turkish Midfielder

11:07 pm, Thursday, July 23rd, 2015 by Dr. Ed Harrison · 92 Comments

There’s a report in Italy in Tutto Mercato Web (TMW), that Newcastle are in a battle with both Paris Saint-Germain and Sampdoria for the signature of 20 year-old Turkish midfielder Taylan Antalyali.

It seems the Turkish U19 central midfielder is getting a lot of attention, and he can play in either an attacking role or as the holding midfielder in the center of the park.

Taylan Antalyali – 20 year-old Turkish U19 midfielder

He is one of the young players Newcastle want to bring in this summer, and he will probably be one for the future, but if he’s good enough he will get his chance in Steve McClaren’s side next season.

Antalyali made his professional debut back in May, 2012 for Bursaspor against Kasimpasa, Istanbul as a 17 year-old and he played a total of 41 games for them with one goal.

The youngster joined Genclerbirligi Ankara from Bursaspor only last summer, and he has attracted the interest of clubs including Newcastle.

He is up for sale for about £1M with his contract at Genclerbirligi running through the summer of 2018.

As we said,  Newcastle will continue to bring in these younger players who look good at their age, and we’ll see if Newcastle can be successful in bringing Taylan to Tyneside this summer.

Comments welcome.

Tutto Mercato Web – Sounds a lot more interesting than “The Chronicle”.

Similarly “Genclerbirligi Ankara” is a cracking name too. I’m not sure about a chant though?

    Any suggestions?

Ed, you have been fooled by a Mirror article in regards to a FIFA investigation into his age!!! The CNN article that you and the mirror quote is from 2013, entitled ‘ Football’s age fraud: FIFA probes player with four birthdays.’

The Mirror just discovered the story and mistook the investigation as ongoing – the official conclusion of the investigation was to conclude that his birth year was ‘most likely’ 1994.

I think there are questions about Shaqiri’s and Thauvin’s, for that matter, character. Getting the right person, as well as the right player, in the dressing room seems important(liked SMc’s ‘in with the family’ phrase). That said, I remember thinking the same about Ronaldo when ManU signed him, in fact I still think the same about Ronaldo, ie that he’s a wrong un! So perhaps it doesn’t matter.

We’ve signed three marquee players, now our scouts can take it easy; vist some L. American nations, enjoy a few mojitos while asking the locals about good young players.

If one of these ‘maybes’ is as good as Perez, I’m happy.

BTW, there was a twitter debate whether Perez should be in the stating 11. My answer is: Yes. Still, I don’t think we should have a starting 11, there should be 18 people regularly playing.

Just been reading how some clowns on this blog would turn there noses up at Johnny Evans. Are you serious? He may not be a world beater but he is much better than anything we have at present. The best manager England has ever seen rated him so he can be that bad.

Wise up people. I am Northern Irish though, lol

  • 44 Lilongwe Geordie // Jul 24, 2015 at 6:48 AM

Jonny Evans is better than what we have, but Man U were wanting £10million for him. Everton offered £8million according to the papers and that went nowhere.

I would like an experienced centre half in who leads the bad line and can organise it. Jonny is pretty vocal, but not sure he is the organiser we need.

He wouldn’t be a terrible addition, but surely any more than £5million is overpaying. There are better centre halves in the Prem that I would rather see us test clubs resolve for.

His contract expires next summer as well.

  • 45 Lilongwe Geordie // Jul 24, 2015 at 6:48 AM

bad line/back line. Let’s face it, it has been both over the last few years.

  • 46 jimmysmith // Jul 24, 2015 at 6:48 AM

Jonny Evans is a very good centre back, although he doesn’t strike me as a Newcastle type signing, but he’s comfortable on the ball, reads the game well and is decent in the air, and at 28 approaching his prime, with great experience behind him. From a personal perspective, I’m not overwhelmed, but from a footballing one, no problem, happy to have him. Austin and Evans, would be top draw really, for Newcastle, coming off last season and in addition to what we’ve got, and say goodbye and thank you to Cisse, and one of the three in their own different ways slightly dubious established CB’s we have. Although, it has to be said, I like all four of them, but onwards and upwards.

  • 47 Lilongwe Geordie // Jul 24, 2015 at 7:01 AM

The other issue with Jevans is that he misses large chunks of the season each year, and that is even when he is rotated often.

Missed 14games last year through injury, 13 the year before that, 9, 12, 10 …. 3 of his major injuries have been recurrences of the same problem.

Add in a suspension or two, and you have a centre half only available for around half the season.

  • 48 The overrated Frenchman // Jul 24, 2015 at 7:18 AM

Evans would be well down on my centre back wish list. A solid enough, decent player, but no more than that. Better than what we have maybe, but by no means a quantum leap forward. And MU are dreaming if they think he is worth £10. I agree with Lillo, 5 mill tops is about his market value.

  • 49 Charlie in the Gallowgate // Jul 24, 2015 at 7:19 AM

  • 53 Toon-Prodigy // Jul 24, 2015 at 7:24 AM

There is anywhere between 12-18 mil recouped.

  • 54 Ian Toon // Jul 24, 2015 at 7:26 AM

French website Foot say that ” Tottenham have leapt to the front of the queue with a substantial bid.

Newcastle have already bought a ready-made replacement for Sissoko in Georginio Wijnaldum, although Steve McClaren would like to keep both players.

Sissoko has admitted that he would one day like to play for Chelsea boss Jose Mourinho but also needs playing time ahead of Euro 2016.

He said: “Didier Deschamps clearly told us that he will only be choosing players who are regularly playing [at their clubs. “

  • 55 Lilongwe Geordie // Jul 24, 2015 at 7:28 AM

£18million for Sissoko? Sounds good, I’d fly back and piggy back him to North London for that. More than covers the cost of bringing Shaqiri in to replace him.

Rolan is the right type of forward we should be looking at now, but I haven’t seen enough of him to be convinced either way. I think he would be best off spending another year at Bordeaux, rather than coming here, or even worse, going to Villa.

If it’s £18 million for sissoko I would take it. I’m sure with a extra 2 m added we could get two players that fit better.

    I can’t see l’pool buying anymore

Chelsea want a lb,or cb cover so doubt he would go there as mikel staying as mourhino has said him and remy are needed.

Spuds could only see him replacing stambuli, for dcm or Dembele that the makems are trying to sign for £8m they have sold a few so this one could be on the cards

  • 60 Lilongwe Geordie // Jul 24, 2015 at 7:37 AM

    nut meg,
Academy is going really well at the moment. We are currently organising a national academy tournament, and then looking to start developing girls football as well. The other week I was working with a charity introducing football for the blind over in Malawi, so it has been a busy period for me. Particularly with a business to run on the side!

We are making a big push for corporate sponsorship now, as my self and my colleague can’t afford to keep covering all costs as we grow. Plus we are looking to build a schools tour program, getting school teams out for a football and cultural tour to Malawi. We had an American school out earlier this year, they want to come back, and we have interest from a school in France, one in Brunei and one in Russia for next year! All the money from these will go into the academy as well.

As you may be able to guess, golf has had to take a bit of a back burner, although I’ve been trying to get to the range at least once every couple of weeks. I do feel like I am getting better, it is just taking a bit of time because of other commitments!

  • 61 Toon-Prodigy // Jul 24, 2015 at 7:39 AM

He has already been replaced with Winny.

Will that money be reinvested though should he be sold? Have my doubts. Roll on 1st September so we can measure up the ins and outs.

  • 62 nut meg // Jul 24, 2015 at 7:41 AM

Sissoko can go for me,he wouldn’t be missed. I agree with you Magpiesi. We can get player that fit the team much better than Sissoko.

  • 63 Lilongwe Geordie // Jul 24, 2015 at 7:41 AM

Spurs actually looks a good fit for Sissoko. They have lost Paulinho, Stambouli and Capoue this summer, so are crying out for midfielders. Sissoko should walk straight into their first team, unlike at the other top 6 clubs. His competition would be Mason, Bentaleb, Alli, and Dembele if he doesn’t go. Eriksen and Lamela if he wants to play further forward.

Looking at that, it makes the strength in depth of our midfield look very good!

  • 64 Lilongwe Geordie // Jul 24, 2015 at 7:43 AM

£12 million on Shakiri and add the remaining £6million to the rumoured £10million for Rudiger and test Stoke’s resolve on Shawcross with a £16million bid.

  • 65 Bobbybee // Jul 24, 2015 at 7:46 AM

If this is for real, then bang a price of £25 mil on his head and see if we can squeeze a bit more out of them. I seem to recall the club mentioning that they’d only sell him for 25 mil anyway. We could do a lot with that sort of money for a player who’s best football has been and gone for us. Unless Macca sees something in him that makes him crucial to the club going forward, we could use the money to finance a bid for Abdenour. It’s not like we’re short of midfielders, after all. Well worth considering imo.

  • 66 Lilongwe Geordie // Jul 24, 2015 at 7:47 AM

Would be interesting to see how Spuds fans react after Sissoko has, on numerous occasions, spoken about Arsenal as his dream club, and the club of his heart!

  • 67 Mr Magpie // Jul 24, 2015 at 7:51 AM

Maybe other clubs interest has forced Barcelona hand on Abdennour.

On Sissoko if he is to go I’d be looking at taking Dier or Yedlin to cover our defence plus for him.

  • 68 nut meg // Jul 24, 2015 at 7:52 AM

WOW, that’s sounds like it’s going great guns, good luck with all your plans ( and your bank balance ) for it,I hope it’s a real success story, well done that young man! The golf well….it can wait as it’s a game you can play in old age but well worth keeping your hand in.

Wouldnt miss him at all. Tired of his antics, always being quoted about how he would love to sign for this team or that team – any top 4 team will have him sitting on the bench like Cabaye.

Get as much cash as poss and replace – Shaqiri must be worth a bid if Stoke had a bid accepted, then its just about the wages…

We have better CMs than Sissoko and there are better RWs out there to be signed – he is ok at both positions but not the best at either.

  • 75 Bobbybee // Jul 24, 2015 at 8:02 AM

WDFTA. If spurs are offering 18, I’m pretty sure we could get more out of them. Anyone any idea how much Shawcross might cost? There’s a solid CB with PL experience if we didn’t use it for Abdenour. If Sissoko has another inconsistent season, we’ll never get that much for him again.

  • 76 Lilongwe Geordie // Jul 24, 2015 at 8:08 AM

    Mr Magpie,
Yeah, getting Yedlin or Dier would be very good business, plus cash. I’d sway towards Dier given he is primarily a centre back that can play right back. I saw Rio named Dier as one of the best English centre backs around recently. Spurs have signed 3 defenders, so someone is likely to be surplus there.

    nut meg,
Cheers, to be honest, I don’t mind it using up my own finances, I can’t think of many things I’d prefer to spend my money on, but I don’t have enough for us to grow to the level we like.

We have a 10 year plan to become the top academy in the Southern African region as well as offering top rate education facilities to ensure that if players don’t make it pro, they can get sports scholarships at top Universities. We are heading to Ghana later this year to meet with Africa’s top academy for a knowledge share and capacity building exercise.

The people we are meeting had an team knock our youths out of a cup in Sweden recently, and we face them in the Milk Cup this summer as well – Right to Dream. They are worth checking out, as their youth teams dominate European friendly competitions

  • 77 sparky55 // Jul 24, 2015 at 8:09 AM

We’ll get 20 million for him but all the money won’t be re-invested.

I doubt if this summer’s spending spree will end up with a net spend of any more than 25 million.

IMO this means Sissoko will go, Tiote will go, and Cisse will go as they are the three remaining players with any sort of value and all are on high wages and IMO dispensable.

Colo will go for next to nowt because he’s old and sh!te and on big wages.

I would therefore expect to get circa 33 million recouped with those four going and 12 million a year in wages offloaded to make room for what we’ve already bought and about to buy.

I would say another 25 million will be spent so total spend circa 60 million less the 33 we’ll get back in equals a nett spend of circa 27 million for re-building the squad pretty much in one go.

From what they’ve done so far I think they’re doing some great business so hate to have say it after all I’ve said in the past but… good job lads…keep up the good work. 🙂

  • 78 Lilongwe Geordie // Jul 24, 2015 at 8:10 AM

£18million plus Eric Dier? To be honest I’d be happy with a lower value plus the player. Dier was one I wanted last summer, he has superb potential and can grow to be one of the best.

  • 79 Jamseyd24 // Jul 24, 2015 at 8:11 AM

Points taken on Evans, Just feel he would be a massive improvement on Willo.

18mil for sissoko, I would take their hand off for it. Dont rate him at all. he comes alive from time to time but not often enough.

  • 80 Bobbybee // Jul 24, 2015 at 8:14 AM

Lil, have you tried approaching the FA for some sort of grant, if your academy could offer English clubs first refusal on players with real potential? Or maybe FIFA, they like to fund grass roots organisations and have an abundance of cash to throw around? Or am I behind and you’ve tried that already?

  • 81 Lilongwe Geordie // Jul 24, 2015 at 8:14 AM

We now have mitrovic who needs crosses to score he isn’t the type of player to create his own unless he closes down a cb and they make a rick.

Janmaat and haidara have been bombing forward in pre season to wip the ball in around the edge of the box so who in midfield do we have that can?

Arrons and amoebi can but he’s on loan obertan and sisoko try but not consistently so out of the others that play wide Goufran,Cabella, marveux the last three are all dribblers not really good at crossing so we need good crossers to create chances.

I agree, we need at least 1 good winger who can cross, its something we havent had in a long time. I think Aarons will do a job on the left. I would get the 18 mil for Sissoko and get a top right winger. Only fear is it wont all be re-invested.

  • 87 Lilongwe Geordie // Jul 24, 2015 at 8:21 AM

I’ve met with people at Hearts football club to discuss partnership, but we only set this up back in November after I left the previous academy I was working at. Hearts need to see more of a track record, and most of the others are the same.

For the FA, Malawian players would have huge difficulties passing the work permit rules, we have to target lower level leagues for European entry – Greece, Scandinavia etc so the first refusal wouldn’t work for us.

As for FIFA, we are affiliated to them through the FA of Malawi, and they do have funding programs. Unfortunately it has to come through the FA here, and money just disappears as it filters through the levels. If we could bypass the FA here, then FIFA would be a good option, but we don’t want to work too closely with them – (despite me working as an independent consultant for them on projects) – as an academy.

Malawian football at the top level is in a sorry state due to the infrastructure and it suffers heavily from the corruption. So we are trying to bypass the football systems in country to offer better opportunities for the kids.

Is there a player (current or former, dead or alive) that Soccer Sauce haven’t linked us to this window?

Lil, I’d have thought something like what you’re doing is right up FIFA’s street for warranting grants, if I’ve grasped it right. (Might be way off mark like!) I could understand you not wanting to get into bed with the dodgy sods, but if it expanded your dream it might be worth considering.

Get Shaqiri for the money. Will still leave some money in the bank. Move Kemen up to the first team and sell Tiote.

it’s not just about wingers putting the ball in from wide…it’s about intelligent passes from the hole like beardsley used to do. Beardsley was very rarely wide…he could just pick a pass and the job for Andy Cole and others was made an awful lot easier because of the quality of the pass.

Intelligent passing in and around the penalty area usually directly in front of goal is where a lot of goals are scored in the premiership nowadays and it’s players like Fabregas and Silva and Mata cause all the damage.

This IMO is why Thauvin and SDJ will have such an important role to play in the team.

Lil, I posted that last one before I saw your last post. Either way, I’d like to wish you all the very best with the project, it sounds like a really wonderful way of getting kids out of abject poverty. Maybe when FIFA cleans itself up you might be able to go directly to them, without slippery fingers getting their hands on the money first through the local FA. This is the sort of project FIFA should be backing directly, knowing how corrupt Africa as a whole is, let alone their FA’s. Best of luck anyway.
