Mark Douglas in the Chronicle today is reporting that Newcastle will let a number of players leave this summer, and he names Mike Williamson, Yoan Gouffran, Mehdi Abeid, Gabriel Obertan, Sylvain Marveaux, Papiss Cisse and captain Fabricio Coloccini as being available for transfer for the right fee.
Leeds United were interested in signing Williamson early in the summer, but that deal didn’t go through, and it was because Leeds United’s bid wasn’t big enough.
Fabricio Coloccini – available for transfer
Haris Vuckic is not on the list, yet he wasn’t on the American tour so maybe we will see him play tomorrow at Sheffield United?
It looks like Steve McClaren is going to have a clear-out of the fringe players, and with Fab Coloccini likely moving to Crystal Palace or even back to Buenos Aries, Steve will need to name a new Newcastle captain for the upcoming season.
Daryl Janmaat was a huge favorite in the poll we conducted earlier this summer.
No offers have come in for any of those players yet, and it could be the latter half of August before any of the players leave the club.
It looks like Newcastle are concentrating on younger players, and it could be the end for Coloccini (33), Williamson (31) and Cisse (30) who are all in their thirties.
Local lad Steven Taylor will stay, and we will also have Jamaal Lascelles and hopefully Chancel Mbemba by Monday – so those are the center-backs we will have next season.
We also have Curtis Good, but he’s still having trouble with that injury he picked up playing for Australia for the first time in March of last year.
That injury really needs to be fixed because when he’s fit the left-footed Curtis is a decent enough young player, but injuries have halted his progress at Newcastle.
Newcastle will bring in one more center-back and he should be tall – maybe 6’4″ – like former top target Douglas who’s now at Dynamo Moscow and McClaren coached at FC Twente, or Joel Matip of Schalke.
Aymen Abdennour from Monaco would also be a tremendous signing for us.
Former Aston Villa and Birmingham manager Alex McLeish gives a great interview in the Chronicle today, and says Newcastle have got two top players from Anderlecht in Mitrovic and Mbemba.
Alex coached Genk last season and says that while Chancel isn’t that tall at around 6′ – he’s a very good header of the ball, and can get up high to head them away.
It looks like it’s really going to be a new team next season for Newcastle – and we definitely need Charlie Austin brought in and another top center-back.
Sounds good to us.

Comment #82If Colo is up for sale we are definitely getting another CB – let’s hope its another upgrade. Unproven or not in the EPL Van Dijk would be a Colo upgrade imo
As Tiote is not up for sale he is presumably staying – all assuming there is any truth in the feature but .if I was buying another player before the Autumn I’d be buying Banega or someone very similar.
Shaqiri plus another class CB would be enough until January window. Let’s not be greedy now….

Comment #84Shaqiri mostly uses his left foot but can use his right so he would either be used as an inverted winger or play on the left ?! Potentially a great player and if the team was set up for him to play would be amazing he was magic at Basel when he was the main man at Bayern he was just another player

Those comments came from a guy who worked in a bar Mitrovic used to go in… Hardly a professional opinion than a biased one! And in the same article it gives details of the head but & separate spitting at opposition fans…
Tsunki @ 73
What if Barcelona had said that about Suarez before they signed him?! They’re no “hearsay bad boy stories”. All based on fact, Mitrovic has a tainted reputation for his antics on & off the field, but similar to Suarez, a talented player, and I believe that he will be very successful for us.

Comment #87I think we are signing two more players (one attacking, one center defender), and we are just waiting to see if our 1st choice will come before moving for our second or third choice. Austin will come only if they come down on price because his wage demands are high.
1. Abdennour/Matip/Van Djik
2. Shaqiri/Austin/Rolan
I wouldn’t complain about any combination.

Don’t forget there’s the small matter of getting a work permit for Mbemba.
If he has signed, his contract could be conditional on the work permit being issued.
The photo shoot could well have been arranged to enable a quick announcement when the permit’s issued.
Unless Charnley’s forgotten the announcement, I can’t think of any other reason for the delay in making it.

Comment #102Hope we dont let Colo go without another top CB being brought in. Imagine starting the season with Mbemba, Taylor, Williamson and Lascelles as top 4 CB’s – no thanks.
Taylor is injury waiting to happen. Williamson not good enough and the other 2 unproven yet.

Comment #106Markmac 88 Sheff utd box office opening at 11.30 to sell the remaining away end tickets. First come first serve. I’d be waiting for them to open just in case. That said, as one of the purposes of the game is to raise money for charity, I’d be surprised if they would turn anybody away when there’s money to be made.

I guess that those are the players we are actively trying to move on. If bids come in for anyone else & Ashley sanctions the sale, it would be business as usual. But those players aren’t necessarily “for sale”. I’m not looking to sell my car, but if a guy comes up to me in Asda car park and offers me a price that meant I make a huge profit on it, I’d snap his hands off!
Maybe Ashley is going to surprise us all and not sell our “best players”this window… Probably wait until we’re in a decent position come Christmas & do it during the Jan window…

Comment #110Lesh, bang on with the work permit being the hold up. He will get one, but as with all forms of bureaucracy it takes time when it’s not dead simple. Can’t really announce the deal until the WP is actually cleared, or they’d look a bit daft if there was a genuine reason to deny him one. Wouldn’t be surprised to see him at Sheffield tomorrow – just not playing. The deal ‘s done, just waiting to dot the i’s and cross the t’s. He’ll be ready to go before the season starts.

They’ve got the others spot on, so at this stage I’m inclined to believe that at least, we are looking at him… They also mention a “cut price deal” which makes it all the more believable. Their source seems reliable. They claimed earlier to have contact with Sissoko’s agent (or a close acquaintance, cant remember their exact words) so who knows who else they are talking to. Seems legit though.

Comment #114Shirebrook. That rotund chap I used to give a lift to games – the one from Mansfield/Shirebrook area? I remember he was called Mark, but can’t recall his surname – if I ever knew it. Worked shifts in a supermarket I believe. Lots of Mags down that area due to the pit closures up here resulting in offers of work in the Notts pits. You might know him, might not.
