Strong Newcastle Side Faces Sheffield United – Janmaat Captain

Newcastle play their fourth pre-season friendly this afternoon at Bramall Lane, a short three days after returning from their American trip, and head coach Steve McClaren has just named his starting eleven.

Newcastle (4-2-3-1): Tim Krul; Daryl Janmaat (c), Mike Williamson, Steven Taylor, Massadio Haidara; Vurnon Anita, Jack Colback; Moussa Sissoko, Georginio Wijnaldum, Ayoze Perez; Papiss Cisse
Substitutes: Karl Darlow, Lubomir Satka, Jamaal Lascelles, Mehdi Abeid, Siem de Jong, Gabriel Obertan, Rolando Aarons, Yoan Gouffran, Adam Armstrong

It looks like Gini Wijnaldum will play in the number 10 role behind Papiss Cisse up front and the two wide men will be Moussa Sissoko and Ayoze Perez.

Vurnon Anita and Jack Colback are the two holding midfielders and the impressive Massadio Haidara again gets a start at left-back in the absence of Paul Dummett.

Sheffield United will be ahead of Newcastle with their pre-season training and preparation with their League One season starting next weekend.

And the fans’ favorite for the captain armband is Daryl Janmaat, and he is captain for the day – which is interesting.

The bench is also full of good players and we are likely to see quite  number of them get a run-out in the second half today.

With his spirit, bravery and good play last season Janmaat – he was out Player of the Season – he proved he could become an excellent captain for Newcastle United.

Comments welcome.

Just a fortnight to go before the Soton game -going to be a very frantic fortnight. Noticed there is no Mr T.
Work permits must still not be sorted out for Mitrovic and Mbemba they’ve left this a bit too close to the wire.

  • 7 Ravostag // Jul 26, 2015 at 12:11 PM

Again we look light at CB even when we sign mbemba need another big defender. No Dummy?

    Lilongwe( said earlier):

“I’ve mentioned Bolasie a number of times. I’d much prefer him to Thauvin. Whether Palace would let him go is debatable though. Offer Palace Woodman senior and Colo plus cash. They had interest in Cisse a while back as well, but that may have gone since signing Bamford. HE would be another reasonable makeweight, although we would then need a centre forward in.”

Bolasie would be a great signing- he really is top draw having learnt his trade through the leagues. Big quick, tricky and comfortable on the ball with early delivery of crosses. He’s thought highly of by Palace and is viewed as a cult figure by fans . I saw the toon game at Palace and he came on for last 20 minutes and made their equaliser. Could certainly step up to a top club at a price. If we’re looking for a quality winger at a price worth a bid and we could throw in a few in part exchange. Can’t see Pardew being attracted but worth a shot.

Think SMC might raid the Dutch league for some hot prospects

  • 21 Nufc-83 // Jul 26, 2015 at 12:30 PM

Ian toon I think two things on bolasie. I think crystal palace will value him 20m + so it really would take cisse colo and prob 10m to get him which j can’t see happening. Secondly he will be aware if he carries on in the same form he will soon be at a top champions league club so no reason to come here.

    Ian Toon,
Explain your self from post 52 onwards, you fraudster !

  • 23 JamesToon // Jul 26, 2015 at 12:32 PM

agree with ian toon and lilongwe, would love bolasie, however i think palace would hold out for at least £15mil

  • 24 hibbit // Jul 26, 2015 at 12:34 PM

james toon would love him…and worth every penny

  • 26 switch365 // Jul 26, 2015 at 12:35 PM

On the flip-side, doesn’t take long for players to become pardewed!
That potential move to a top champion’s league club could become mid championship club in 12 months

  • 27 joeinthecheapseats // Jul 26, 2015 at 12:38 PM

Anyone else had an E mail saying Mbemba deal agreed just need visa issue sorting out by FA panel on the 30 th July

  • 28 Ian Toon // Jul 26, 2015 at 12:38 PM

He’s a talent and much more than a raw diamond. I saw a report in I think the express or maybe mail this past week that Liverpool were prepared to offer £ 40 million for him.. Liverpool had tried to buy him in January. He’s not the typical winger who FB’s can intimidate – if we get another ST in I might think letting Cisse go would make sense.

  • 29 Derek // Jul 26, 2015 at 12:39 PM

Would much prefer Lascelles and Satka getting much needed experience in this friendly game.

Makes me worried that McLaren is planning on keeping Willo and Saylor in the first team 😐

We Could Offer Colo, Willo, Gouffran, Elliot & Tiote for Bolassie. Result!

  • 32 Ron Knee // Jul 26, 2015 at 12:40 PM

    It’s mentioned by Lee Ryder:

  • 33 joeinthecheapseats // Jul 26, 2015 at 12:41 PM

Following an agreement between Newcastle United and Anderlecht for the transfer of Chancel Mbemba, the player has been in Newcastle and has agreed personal terms with the Club a Governing Body Endorsement (GBE), required in order for Mbemba to obtain a visa, was submitted to the FA on Wednesday morning (22 July).

Unfortunately, the FA are unable to consider the Club’s application until Thursday of next week (30 July). The FA advised the Club they were not able to convene a Panel any sooner.

  • 34 Ian Toon // Jul 26, 2015 at 12:42 PM

Nufc-83 – yes he can go all the way to the top injuries permitting. Which might just appeal to Ashley on a higher re sale value angle.

  • 35 catchy in norway // Jul 26, 2015 at 12:44 PM

anyone ine the fantasy dream team ?

  • 40 Belfast // Jul 26, 2015 at 12:50 PM

I bet they would convene a panel sooner if he was joining Man Utd or Chelsea.

  • 41 The overrated Frenchman // Jul 26, 2015 at 12:53 PM

Mitrovic is injured. Shook hands with Derek Wright for the first time and immediately pulled his hamstring. Will miss the first month of the season, but will be like a new signing when he plays. (Please see previous thread for the definitive opinion on Bolasie by The overrated Frenchman.)

  • 42 Ian Toon // Jul 26, 2015 at 12:56 PM

Jail – I don’t have too! Simply because if you examine carefully the exchanges you will see that it was PP talking to himself and not me Ian Toon talking to himself. When you alerted Ed to this around 21/2 years ago he accepted the point. At the time I was so disgusted by you and a few of your mates that I lost enthusiasm for posting.
This is a football blog and I don’t feel the need to have other posters reinforcing my opinions. Despite what you might think. I am quite happy to exchange with anyone provided they are reasonable people.
However I do find the lack of vision , the narrowness of thinking, the simple lack of courage and curiosity that can be contemptible.
So make your mind up because sheer nastiness unaccompanied by any argument makes a dispiriting and, in the end , plain boring read for others.
This is a football blog and it’s plain boring for the vast majority.

What’s going on with Tiote? He’s been a total liability for 2 years now. Just get rid! if he’s not injured he’s either suspended or on international duty!

  • 46 Moonraker15 // Jul 26, 2015 at 1:06 PM

Some of you so called bloggers ore like a load of school kids lol ffs grow up haha

    Any links audio/ stream????????????????

  • 48 The overrated Frenchman // Jul 26, 2015 at 1:09 PM

Belfast @39. Read the handbook. No panel required for EPL “preferred teams”. Rubber stamp and a “good luck son” is sufficient. Don’t tell anybody, we don’t to alarm people, but it’s not an equal world out there in football, any more than it is in any other walk of life. And that’s not just me talking, it’s about a third of a bottle if Highland Park as well…

  • 49 Tiote4PM // Jul 26, 2015 at 1:31 PM

So no one is watching/ listening to this?

What a shite pre season game.
