Strong Newcastle Side Faces Sheffield United – Janmaat Captain

sheffield united fcnufc emblem

Newcastle play their fourth pre-season friendly this afternoon at Bramall Lane, a short three days after returning from their American trip, and head coach Steve McClaren has just named his starting eleven.

Newcastle (4-2-3-1): Tim Krul; Daryl Janmaat (c), Mike Williamson, Steven Taylor, Massadio Haidara; Vurnon Anita, Jack Colback; Moussa Sissoko, Georginio Wijnaldum, Ayoze Perez; Papiss Cisse
Substitutes: Karl Darlow, Lubomir Satka, Jamaal Lascelles, Mehdi Abeid, Siem de Jong, Gabriel Obertan, Rolando Aarons, Yoan Gouffran, Adam Armstrong

It looks like Gini Wijnaldum will play in the number 10 role behind Papiss Cisse up front and the two wide men will be Moussa Sissoko and Ayoze Perez.

Vurnon Anita and Jack Colback are the two holding midfielders and the impressive Massadio Haidara again gets a start at left-back in the absence of Paul Dummett.

Sheffield United will be ahead of Newcastle with their pre-season training and preparation with their League One season starting next weekend.

And the fans’ favorite for the captain armband is Daryl Janmaat, and he is captain for the day – which is interesting.

The bench is also full of good players and we are likely to see quite  number of them get a run-out in the second half today.

With his spirit, bravery and good play last season Janmaat – he was out Player of the Season – he proved he could become an excellent captain for Newcastle United.

Just a fortnight to go before the Soton game -going to be a very frantic fortnight. Noticed there is no Mr T.
Work permits must still not be sorted out for Mitrovic and Mbemba they’ve left this a bit too close to the wire.

    Lilongwe( said earlier):

“I’ve mentioned Bolasie a number of times. I’d much prefer him to Thauvin. Whether Palace would let him go is debatable though. Offer Palace Woodman senior and Colo plus cash. They had interest in Cisse a while back as well, but that may have gone since signing Bamford. HE would be another reasonable makeweight, although we would then need a centre forward in.”

Bolasie would be a great signing- he really is top draw having learnt his trade through the leagues. Big quick, tricky and comfortable on the ball with early delivery of crosses. He’s thought highly of by Palace and is viewed as a cult figure by fans . I saw the toon game at Palace and he came on for last 20 minutes and made their equaliser. Could certainly step up to a top club at a price. If we’re looking for a quality winger at a price worth a bid and we could throw in a few in part exchange. Can’t see Pardew being attracted but worth a shot.

Ian toon I think two things on bolasie. I think crystal palace will value him 20m + so it really would take cisse colo and prob 10m to get him which j can’t see happening. Secondly he will be aware if he carries on in the same form he will soon be at a top champions league club so no reason to come here.

On the flip-side, doesn’t take long for players to become pardewed!
That potential move to a top champion’s league club could become mid championship club in 12 months

He’s a talent and much more than a raw diamond. I saw a report in I think the express or maybe mail this past week that Liverpool were prepared to offer £ 40 million for him.. Liverpool had tried to buy him in January. He’s not the typical winger who FB’s can intimidate – if we get another ST in I might think letting Cisse go would make sense.

Would much prefer Lascelles and Satka getting much needed experience in this friendly game.

Makes me worried that McLaren is planning on keeping Willo and Saylor in the first team 😐

Following an agreement between Newcastle United and Anderlecht for the transfer of Chancel Mbemba, the player has been in Newcastle and has agreed personal terms with the Club a Governing Body Endorsement (GBE), required in order for Mbemba to obtain a visa, was submitted to the FA on Wednesday morning (22 July).

Unfortunately, the FA are unable to consider the Club’s application until Thursday of next week (30 July). The FA advised the Club they were not able to convene a Panel any sooner.

Nufc-83 – yes he can go all the way to the top injuries permitting. Which might just appeal to Ashley on a higher re sale value angle.
