Newcastle play their fourth pre-season friendly this afternoon at Bramall Lane, a short three days after returning from their American trip, and head coach Steve McClaren has just named his starting eleven.
Newcastle (4-2-3-1): Tim Krul; Daryl Janmaat (c), Mike Williamson, Steven Taylor, Massadio Haidara; Vurnon Anita, Jack Colback; Moussa Sissoko, Georginio Wijnaldum, Ayoze Perez; Papiss Cisse
Substitutes: Karl Darlow, Lubomir Satka, Jamaal Lascelles, Mehdi Abeid, Siem de Jong, Gabriel Obertan, Rolando Aarons, Yoan Gouffran, Adam Armstrong
It looks like Gini Wijnaldum will play in the number 10 role behind Papiss Cisse up front and the two wide men will be Moussa Sissoko and Ayoze Perez.
Vurnon Anita and Jack Colback are the two holding midfielders and the impressive Massadio Haidara again gets a start at left-back in the absence of Paul Dummett.
Sheffield United will be ahead of Newcastle with their pre-season training and preparation with their League One season starting next weekend.
And the fans’ favorite for the captain armband is Daryl Janmaat, and he is captain for the day – which is interesting.
The bench is also full of good players and we are likely to see quite number of them get a run-out in the second half today.
With his spirit, bravery and good play last season Janmaat – he was out Player of the Season – he proved he could become an excellent captain for Newcastle United.

Comment #41Mitrovic is injured. Shook hands with Derek Wright for the first time and immediately pulled his hamstring. Will miss the first month of the season, but will be like a new signing when he plays. (Please see previous thread for the definitive opinion on Bolasie by The overrated Frenchman.)

Comment #42Jail – I don’t have too! Simply because if you examine carefully the exchanges you will see that it was PP talking to himself and not me Ian Toon talking to himself. When you alerted Ed to this around 21/2 years ago he accepted the point. At the time I was so disgusted by you and a few of your mates that I lost enthusiasm for posting.
This is a football blog and I don’t feel the need to have other posters reinforcing my opinions. Despite what you might think. I am quite happy to exchange with anyone provided they are reasonable people.
However I do find the lack of vision , the narrowness of thinking, the simple lack of courage and curiosity that can be contemptible.
So make your mind up because sheer nastiness unaccompanied by any argument makes a dispiriting and, in the end , plain boring read for others.
This is a football blog and it’s plain boring for the vast majority.

Comment #48Belfast @39. Read the handbook. No panel required for EPL “preferred teams”. Rubber stamp and a “good luck son” is sufficient. Don’t tell anybody, we don’t to alarm people, but it’s not an equal world out there in football, any more than it is in any other walk of life. And that’s not just me talking, it’s about a third of a bottle if Highland Park as well…
