Dubious Reports Surrounding Rolando Aarons

7:14 pm, Monday, July 27th, 2015 by Dr. Ed Harrison · 138 Comments

Newcastle are willing to give Rolando Aarons a five year improved deal to stay with the club long-term, after his excellent form this pre-season – which is not unlike how he performed for us last season before picking up some serious hamstring injuries that limited him to just six appearances for Newcastle this season.

And just like last year there are reports of some big clubs interested in signing Rolando, but they seem very dubious at best – we hope they are very dubious at best.

Rolando Aarons in action at Bramall Lane yesterday

One such report is in the Metro today where they are saying there is an ongoing contract row continuing at Newcastle.

What contract row?

Rolando was interviewed after the game against the Portland Timbers last Tuesday night, in which he scored two brilliant goals in the second half within two minutes of each other.

And he certainly seemed to be looking forward to the coming season under Steve McClaren, who has a good reputation for bringing talented young players like Aarons through to the first team.

Arsenal are said to be the latest club linked with wanting to sign the 19 year-old Jamaica-born winger,  but Newcastle have to get Rolando signed up – and quickly too.

Newcastle’s future is as much dependent on the club signing up top young players as Olivier Kemen and Rolando Aarons, as it is on attracting good new players to the club.

We have been successful in getting Gini Wijnaldum, Aleksandar Mitrovic and Chancel Mbemba (soon) to Newcastle, and now we have to get our top youngsters signed up.

If Rolando did join one of the top clubs said to be after him,  he certainly wouldn’t get the first team games he will get for Newcastle next season.

Rolando will also have seen how well Ayoze Perez came on last season when he made 39 first team appearances and seven Premier League goals for Newcastle.

We are confident Newcastle can sign Rolando Aarons to a long term deal, but not sure what exactly is going on with Olivier Keen, whose agent has apparently been in talks with AC Milan.

Signing up these top youngsters is what Newcastle need to do if we are to become a top club in England again.

Here again are those two fantastic goals from Rolando at Portland.

Comments welcome.

    Load of rubbish.

The lad has just got back to fitness and each time he talks he mentions knuckling down, woke hard to impress mac

I have no doubt if in three years we are still struggling he will want away but let’s just get him playing regular football first.

Pointless him moving yet to sit on the bench (if he is lucky) at a top four club

Apparently Leeds have bid 2.5 Mil for Williamson.

  • 3 Belfast // Jul 27, 2015 at 7:25 PM

Yeah a very reliable source the metro like. Load of crap.

  • 4 Charlie in the Gallowgate // Jul 27, 2015 at 7:27 PM

    Call me cynical
Metro stirring the S**t – most likely a couple of their press boys or his agent/agents are linked with clubs in some capacity and would like the kid to be playing for ‘their’ club/clubs

  • 5 tequilamag // Jul 27, 2015 at 7:29 PM

Jamesy I would be amazed if Leeds have 2.5 mill.

  • 6 catchy in norway // Jul 27, 2015 at 7:31 PM

reliable source = Lee Ryder, man in the know ;).

NUFC know they have a real talent with Arons and if ARS are sniffing around the fee should be 20 million, based on how much they paid for Walcot + time, kid with promise and talent

  • 7 ShirebrookToon // Jul 27, 2015 at 7:32 PM

Wonder who these other 1 or two signings are going to be

  • 11 SUTTY1978 // Jul 27, 2015 at 7:38 PM

It’s just whenever someone has a good game, scores is in the news for some football reason, the press make up a random story about someone wanting to sign them. Keen was in the news because he was captaining France U19, the magically he is going to Milan. Rolando scores a couple of decent goals and Liverpool want to sign him. It’s juSt made up crap that is regurgitated and repeated and then embellished by shit talking websites. Same as with half the rumourns about players linked with us, utter bollocks.
More annoying when people on here get wound up by it!

  • 12 toon kk // Jul 27, 2015 at 7:40 PM

Money will always talk at Newcastle so if any bid comes in at the right price for Any player they’ll be cashed in, whether it weakens the squad or not.
Half of our squad should be released imo, penny pinching and buying players with resale the main objective has certainly taken its toll on the club.

  • 13 SUTTY1978 // Jul 27, 2015 at 7:40 PM

Shirebrook, the one or two are Mbemba and Mitro. Signings are done for now, might be more if we ship people out

    Colo: OUT
    WIllo” OUT

    TOP CB: IN

  • 19 lesh // Jul 27, 2015 at 7:49 PM

Shouldn’t expect too much from Charnley for a month or two, everything’s on the back burner as he recovers from the exertions of signing Mitro, Wljndum and hopefully, Mbemba.

It’s just a pity he couldn’t get out of the starting gate a bit earlier in the window!

However, we should be thankful that the season starts in a couple of weeks albeit we still need a quality CB and maybe a striker. Maybe Mr C can do a little bit more before the season starts?

I ain’t holding my breath though.

  • 20 ToonFromLeeds // Jul 27, 2015 at 7:56 PM

    captain to be talking

  • 21 Bobbybee // Jul 27, 2015 at 7:59 PM

What’s happened is that somebody with a penchant for mischief making has dug out last season’s story and rehashed it as new. Aarons himself has repeatedly expressed his desire to knuckle down and impress Macca. He also needs to reassure the club he hasn’t got a glass hamstring. His potential is massive. He is already a quality player who is only going to improve. He should get a good very contract as long as the hamstring doesn’t keep recurring, based on age and potential. That contract should be regularly reviewed as his performances improve. It should also contain a ridiculously high buy out clause of anything between 70-80 million squidlies upwards. Anything less and the hawks will tempt Ashley – not something we want. If anyone matches that buyout clause, then at least we get adequately compensated and it MUST be reinvested into the squad. I put such a high one because Liverpool got 49 for Sterling and Aarons has the potential to be better. Forget the lies about contract talks failing, it’s all bullpoo.

  • 22 Bobbybee // Jul 27, 2015 at 8:01 PM

Good very? Very good even! 🙂

  • 23 WWSBRD // Jul 27, 2015 at 8:02 PM

Aaron’s has the potential to be better than Sterling who is yet to reach his potential?

  • 24 JackButler // Jul 27, 2015 at 8:03 PM

Be just like us to sell him though.

Hope it’s BS, but at NUFC you just never know

  • 25 Belfast // Jul 27, 2015 at 8:04 PM

The Williamson story is coming from a fraud account on twitter. Although it isn’t a dead bloke this time. That’s progress !

  • 28 JackButler // Jul 27, 2015 at 8:07 PM

Potential is an expensive commodity these days 🙂

The guy who has the potential to be better than Aarons is gonna be worth a bloody fortune 🙂

  • 29 WWSBRD // Jul 27, 2015 at 8:09 PM

    Maybe I do haha

Aaron’s does remind me of Sterling at times but equally I have concerns over Aaron’s he has a lot to prove, could be good could disappear so am not getting too over the top about him

  • 30 Bobbybee // Jul 27, 2015 at 8:10 PM

Just to be sure: Sterling has the potential to be a great player. Imo, Aarons has greater potential than Sterling. 😉

  • 31 JackButler // Jul 27, 2015 at 8:10 PM

You never know, maybe twitter will actually give us a story with some truth in it one day

  • 32 JamesToon // Jul 27, 2015 at 8:10 PM

I think its way too early to start making judgements that aarons will be better than sterling.

However this kid i think will soon have a sell on value of up to £25-35mil

  • 33 WWSBRD // Jul 27, 2015 at 8:11 PM

  • 35 JackButler // Jul 27, 2015 at 8:15 PM

Let’s be honest. Aarons has done zero compared to Sterling, a player who has been tested at the highest level for a few seasons now.

Aarons has had nothing but bit part roles with an average side around him, yes he looks decent but until he’s a regular and tested every week after opposition players have figured him out we have no idea how good he is or how good he can go on to be

  • 38 Bobbybee // Jul 27, 2015 at 8:18 PM

WWSBRD. Thank you for your understanding lol. When you consider the minute amount of 1st team football he’s had, his potential is scary. As a fan who enjoys watching the academy and U21’s, I was raving about four players with oodles of potential. Arma, Aarons, Kemen and Roberts. Strangely, the one I thought might struggle out of all of them was Kemen – the one attracting all the attention. He’s a very good footballer, but his first touch failed to improve over the two years, bearing a canny resemblance to a brick wall. He seriously needs to improve that and that was what, imo, was holding him back. Plenty time to improve that though.

I used to watch the young guns semi often but fell out of love with it

But for them coming through I’d agree with JB it’s a lot tougher when every move u make is analysed by opposition as is done at the top level. He needs to be good against full backs who know what he’s about to prove himself which he hasn’t come close to doing

  • 44 Bobbybee // Jul 27, 2015 at 8:27 PM

James, I know that mate, hence the word potential. Long way to go yet and even he realises that. He needs to learn when to run and when to pass for a start, but the natural skill he possesses is awesome. If we don’t tie him down, I guarantee somebody else will snatch him away from us in a flash. We have a truly exciting prospect on our hands and I for one want to hang onto him.

  • 45 JackButler // Jul 27, 2015 at 8:28 PM

I honestly hope Aarons become the player we all hope he can become, but we have had so many false dawns over the years where potential world class players have proven to be nothing but average (most of how now ply their trade in the lower leagues) I think we should allow Aarons the time to mature and show what he can do and not burry him with the weight of expectation

  • 46 welshgeordie9 // Jul 27, 2015 at 8:39 PM

    According to the mirror.

Newcastle transfers: £13.25m Charlie Austin bid in pipeline if QPR striker’s shoulder checks out.

If we get him I will definitely run around newcastle naked.

  • 55 Bobbybee // Jul 27, 2015 at 8:47 PM

Jack, I’m with you there mate, it’s just that it’s not just me, other clubs have been sniffing and that was before his hamstring injury. We’ve often – and rightly – been accused of lacking ambition. Bigger clubs now routinely put silly buy out clauses on players with potential and it’s proven to be a massive success, especially in Spain. He definitely needs tying down, or we will lose him. If he doesn’t reach that potential – which right now is looking an unlikely scenario – there’s nothing stopping us removing the clause. Cathco is well renowned for bringing on young players and Macca is always prepared to give youth a chance. It’s just my humble opinion of course, but it would break my heart to lose him cheaply.

  • 58 Offkey // Jul 27, 2015 at 8:53 PM

I cant see Steve playing 4-4-2 regularly with the personnel we have so either Austin or Mitrovic on the bench with Cisse sold I would guess. Can’t really see it if I am honest.

Hopefully more signings are planned and that McClaren’s not so encouraging interview was just a diversion or to make any more signings look like a present from MA.

Aye, Anita acts as cover – and to be fair has played right back for Holland in the past – but from what I’ve seen, they must’ve been pretty desperate. It’s odd that in a world with 90% right footers, we have more cover at left back! I like Haidarra at left back and pleased to see he’s finally getting over that horrendous tackle at Wigan, which affected him as much psychologically as physically. Got to say, apart from signing another right back, I can’t see how we’ll manage if Janmaat gets injured or suspended.

Not that I would keep Ferguson but it does not look like he is going anywhere

  • 104 Bobbybee // Jul 27, 2015 at 9:36 PM

WWSBRD. So I’ve heard, but that would leave us back to square one in the middle. Then again, i suppose Dummett could cover as CB whilst Mbemba covers for Janmaat. The we could… AAARGH, My heads starting to hurt! 🙂

  • 105 ToonFromLeeds // Jul 27, 2015 at 9:37 PM

WWSBRD yh he had some good play but he’s a red card waiting to happen

  • 106 jesperfuglsang - capt'n awesome of the lemon crew // Jul 27, 2015 at 9:41 PM

Yo…I think their bluff had called had JC walked…

As Charnless said “mistakes had been made” and we all know what they are (or were)

I am not sure they would have taken that chance mate to be honest…but I cannot say for sure though 😉

  • 108 WWSBRD // Jul 27, 2015 at 9:44 PM

Will have Lascelles, Saylor and Willo to cover CB mate

True but he was bloody good fun and had a heart for the toon brought us back from 4 goals down at ht to draw

  • 109 will die for the toon army // Jul 27, 2015 at 9:45 PM

I like John Carver but he shld learn to shut up.

  • 110 WWSBRD // Jul 27, 2015 at 9:46 PM

I don’t agree mate I think they agreed a deal with McClaren after Pardew left and that was that until summer

But as u say who knows

  • 111 worthing magpiee // Jul 27, 2015 at 9:46 PM

Wats your thoughts on the soton game guys? Hate to be negative but think we could end up getting a hiding, although Its only preseason games they have been playing good football and convinstley beating there opponents!

  • 112 Offkey // Jul 27, 2015 at 9:47 PM

If Mbemba has to cover for Janmaat, with no other incoming defenders, our defence would be poorer than last year…….another CB (or a back up right back) and I would not be as concerned.

Just seems like another gamble if no other defenders come in.

  • 113 firebug666 // Jul 27, 2015 at 9:49 PM

Ashley has not changed his ways and never will. I have said this before, he is a parasite, and he is using our club to feed the coffers of Sports Defect.

“Newcastle United is beneficial to Sports Defect”

The club was all but dead at the end of last season, not able to raise it head, and Ashley knew that, his little TV cameo was to try and get the fans back onside in a desperate bid to stay in the premier league.

    Success; we stayed up!

Now Ashley has sanctioned some new signings, not because he loves this club, neither is it to appease the fans he loathes so much, it because he has to, The sleeping giant was in a coma, and that would not produce the necessary heartbeat needed to display some tat shop on the TV, he needed the club to breath again so the parasite can feed it’s gluttonous bank account.

The horse may be bolted to the cart, but there is plenty of scope for the wheels to come off.

    @worthing magpie

I have had this fear for a while we may take an absolute spanking in the first game of the season Pelle , Long and Mane as their forward line will cause us no end of problems with their power and pace and Pelle’s aerial ability !

I do think they will be a bit more vulnerable at the back than last season as no Alderwerield , Foster and I think Bertrand might be injured?

Will be watching their Europa game live to see how they get on

  • 115 will die for the toon army // Jul 27, 2015 at 9:54 PM

I think its a win win situation. Guy gave us 130m interest free loan with no payment schedule. Advertising for free is a good payment for his loan.

  • 116 jane // Jul 27, 2015 at 9:57 PM

firebug i think if he can make money from the club as well he will. if you make more money by winning things and getting in to the Champions league i think he would like to do this. if the way to make the most money is just to avoid relegation you maybe right.

  • 117 firebug666 // Jul 27, 2015 at 9:59 PM

will die for the toon army

I have to disagree, he has double the debt the club had, and Newcastle get no benefit from it, He owns the club, so who exactly did he loan the money too?

The free advertising is to offset the interest he would have to pay to his holding company, while he also gets tax relief for the loan.

The merchandising is the same, he sells it to us, and handles all the distribution, then Sports Direct sell it to the fans, so basically he sells it twice and we get about 25% the same as Rangers.

There is no benefit to Newcastle United.

  • 118 worthing magpiee // Jul 27, 2015 at 9:59 PM

    @ lcbp

Ive had the same feeling aswell, they do play nice football especially with that front 3 that im worried about,be interesting to see how much difference are three new signings will make, soton will sure be a great test for us

  • 119 jane // Jul 27, 2015 at 10:00 PM

will die for the toon army i tend to agree with you that it isn’t a bad deal for the club. win win would be ideal.

  • 120 jesperfuglsang - capt'n awesome of the lemon crew // Jul 27, 2015 at 10:00 PM

    Yo #110…you think?

I am not convinced by that though. I sort of believe had McC promoted Derby he would still be there. I am not really impressed by the route we took after Pardew left!

    But that’s just me

  • 121 will die for the toon army // Jul 27, 2015 at 10:01 PM

The only way we can make to Champions league is to go all they way for Europa league.

  • 122 Lee Charnley Bunga Party // Jul 27, 2015 at 10:02 PM

I think if Carver had a bit more luck with suspensions and injuries and a couple of more points he would probably still be the manager …….

  • 123 Belfast // Jul 27, 2015 at 10:02 PM

It’s not win win when we still owe him 130 million like.

Win win for Ashley but definitely not the club.

  • 124 dok - the horrid colonial // Jul 27, 2015 at 10:04 PM

soccersauce reporting jfk and pardew to take over real Madrid, since they are the best coaches on the planet..

willo will be a superstar there as well

  • 125 Lee Charnley Bunga Party // Jul 27, 2015 at 10:04 PM

    @Worthing Magpie

I would have felt a lot more confident if Wijnaldum , Mitrovic and Mbemba had been signed in June and had a full pre season but we will be lucky if the Mitro and Mbemba get 90 minutes before the game

  • 126 Belfast // Jul 27, 2015 at 10:06 PM

It would be win win if Ashley was knocking 10 million off the 130 million loan every season for advertising sports direct..

  • 127 will die for the toon army // Jul 27, 2015 at 10:07 PM

It still shows that its a loan in our books look at Chelsea’s loan to Abromavic it hit 1billion last season. So I think if any one has to buy Chelsea he will have to consider that loan from Abromavic.

  • 128 worthing magpiee // Jul 27, 2015 at 10:08 PM

    @ jesper

Im happy with the new coaching staff,is a breath of fresh air! But with are defence, with the amount of goals we shipped last season just makes me bloody nervous! Even with mbemba, still cant believe the club hasn’t adressed this, although the window is still open….

will die for the toon army

What happens at Chelski is of no interest to me, it was the parasite at this club is doing.

If we were allowed to advertise for the benefit of the club for example, we could pay off that pretence of a loan, and then use that money to bring in more players.

The club is being stifled, and drip fed but the parasite and only to the benefit of SD.

Don’t get me wrong here, I’m glad we are showing a little more ambition, and looking for a better class of player, I glad we are now going to play for something.

But I hate the fact that Ashley and SD are fleecing the club, and stopping us becoming so much more.

  • 134 WWSBRD // Jul 27, 2015 at 10:19 PM

I honestly do mate, I think it was all pretty much agreed he would join us in the summer regardless of where Derby were playing

    But hey thats just me

  • 135 jane // Jul 27, 2015 at 10:22 PM

“and stopping us becoming so much more”

maybe or maybe much worse who knows. let’s hope the current owner makes NUFC successful and if that involves SD and MA taking advantage of the club and making themselves stupendously rich in the process we can probably live with that 🙂

  • 136 firebug666 // Jul 27, 2015 at 10:26 PM

There is not a lot we can do about it, but I will not just blindly accept it.

Anyway no point in labouring the topic, it will no doubt come up again, and again.

    Ashley Out!

  • 137 will die for the toon army // Jul 27, 2015 at 10:30 PM

Trust me if Mike was trying first make us financially stable then hit the ground running then its a good deal. All that happened for the last 8 yrs some stuff is good some is bad. It is really hard to judge MA. He really tried brought back KK Shearer and put Moncur on the board.

I wldnt say he didnt try. But he also did some really bad stuff. But am greatful we r still here have 34m or more in the bank made a crazy profit 18m and This year we might make a higher one. Lets wait for the summer to end and will judge him from then on. Dont think am not scared of what to happen coz we have been thru all this shit. But I jst have to look at the good he has done financially and I hope we will get a better football side. I never think of administration like I used to wen Shepherd and Hall were hear. We used to spend alot without winning anything and not going to Champions league.
